It’s a Small World made it’s debut at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. Whilst at the fair there were numerous merchandise tie-ins. One of the most popular were these dolls, pictured above. They were sold at the Unicef booth and retailed for just under $3.00! Some of the dolls came with a card that had an address and name on it, so that the child who purchased it could actually write to another child in that doll’s country of origin. These were known as “Pen Pal” dolls. They were sold during the World Fair’s entire run and eventually found their way to Sears and Alden’s department stores, just in time for Christmas of 1965/66.
