How is Joel Osteen a heretic?

I’m glad you asked! Joel Osteen is a heretic because he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He preaches a message that is contradictory to scripture, and twisting scripture to fit his own purposes. You might have heard of his book, “Your best life now,” well basically he turns God into a butler. While God does bless His Children, He is not our butler or a means to an end. Our life on earth is not about living it to the best of our potential, it’s about glorifying God. Probably a great example of this is when his wife, Victoria Osteen, was speaking and said,

“I just want to encourage every one of us to realize, when we obey God, we’re not doing it for God – I mean that’s one way to look at it –we’re doing it for ourselves, because God takes pleasure when we’re happy. That’s the thing that gives him the greatest joy this morning. So, I want you to know this morning: Just do good for your own self. Do good because God wants you to be happy.”

But what does scripture have to say about this? In 1 Corinthians 10:31, “31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Notice how Paul says, “Do all to the glory of God,” and not, “Do all to please yourself, because that’s what makes God happy.” Our lives are not about us, it’s all about God. We were created for God and by God, this can only be done though when we are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and made new, “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come,” (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV). Anyone who tells you that you can love God and love money, has a mind set according to the flesh (Romans 8:5-6, ESV) and seems to forget that Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money,” (Matthew 6:24, ESV).

This is where Joel and his wife miss the point. You cannot love the things of this world (and by love I mean putting them before God) and follow God, it’s absolutely impossible. Trust me, I’ve tried. God says in Exodus 20:3-6, “3 “You shall have no other gods before me.4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.” God wants all of our devotion, all of our adoration, all our worship. To paraphrase Abraham Kuyper, “There is nothing in this world that God doesn’t claim, “Mine!””

To put it simply, Anon, God is completely sovereign over His creation, and deserves to be glorified in our lives.

In life, we all have to deal with the unexpected. Just because we’re believers, just because we’re good people or doing the right thing doesn’t make us exempt from trouble. The scripture says, “The rain falls on the just and the unjust.” In times when something unexpected happens, or you find yourself facing a crisis, you don’t have to go into “panic mode” or fall apart emotionally. Remember, that crisis is no surprise to God. It may be unexpected to you, but God knows the end from the beginning. He has solutions to problems that you haven’t even had. He has equipped you for every battle, and He goes before you making your crooked places straight.

Today, focus on the fact that He is with you. Remember that He is walking with you and guiding you to a place of peace and victory. No matter what has happened, He will take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it around for your good! He always leads us in victory. So keep moving forward, trusting in the good plan He has for you!

Conversations with god

I have been having conversations with god.

Well, maybe not ‘conversations with god,’ but definitely conversations with fallible humans who believe themselves to be the spokespeople and representatives of a god.

And maybe not 'conversations,’ but definitely one-sided statements.

Joel Osteen, Victoria Osteen and Joyce Meyer claim to represent god and they use Twitter to post various 'inspirational’ messages about this particular god.

As a reader of these messages, I take a little time out of my day and simply write responses to their tweets. These are completely one-sided conversations in which they never react or respond to my comments. It’s sort of like talking to a god that way.

So please enjoy my one-sided conversations with a god’s little messengers.

Here’s a taste to whet your whistle:

@JoyceMeyer: How do you keep the faith when you haven’t seen Him move yet?

@mentalmacguyver: The same could be said of my Bowels before breakfast.

Even in the Hard Times

When Moses was born, the king ordered that all the male babies were to be killed. You can imagine how devastated this mother must have been. She could have easily given up, but instead, she chose to believe that God was still in control. She put Moses into a little basket and sent him down the Nile River. It just so happened that Pharaoh’s daughter was out taking a bath — at the right place and the right time. She heard the cries coming from the basket. She opened it up and saw baby Moses and fell in love with the boy. She was so excited and said, “I’m going to take him as my own.” She looked at her maids and said, “We need to find somebody that can nurse the baby.”

One of the maids said, “I know just who to get.” She went and found who? Moses’ mother. Moses’ mother was not only able to raise her son, but she got paid for doing it on top of that. Only God could orchestrate all of that.

Today, remember that even in loss, heartache or disappointment, God will order your steps. He’ll line up the right people and the right opportunities and lead you into victory all the days of your life.

A SPECIAL THOUGHT FOR HOPE AND VICTORY From Joel And Victoria Osteen

So often we miss out on God’s best because we give up too soon.

We don’t realize how close we are to our victory. Just another few days of believing, another few weeks of doing the right thing, or another few months of staying in faith is all you may need to see His promises come to pass.

Today, I want to speak by faith over you. Your breakthrough is right around the corner!

You might say, “Joel, I don’t know how I’m going to make it. Things seem to be getting worse instead of better.” You might be tempted to think, I’m never going to find my spouse, or I’m never going to get that promotion, or I’m never going to break this addiction. But you can, because the truth is your Heavenly Father is closer than you think.

I have found that the intensity gets turned up when victory is near. The enemy would not be fighting so hard if he didn’t already know he was about to lose his grip on you.

When those negative thoughts come that would discourage you, just remind yourself that you are a child of the Most High God. Let your words be, “I am an overcomer. I am the head and not the tail. I am a victor and not a victim.”

Scripture is full of people who were closer than they thought…

David faced impossible odds against Goliath, but he was moments away from victory (1 Samuel 17).

Elijah was surrounded by 400 false prophets, but the power of God was about to be revealed for everyone to see (1 Kings 18).

Joseph was forgotten and left in prison, but he was just a dream away from his royal position (Genesis 39–40).

Can you imagine if David dropped his slingshot and ran? What if Elijah had backed down? What if Joseph had stopped dreaming?

They didn’t give up, and God gave them victory!

These stories reveal that it is often the darkest right before the dawn. Perhaps today you are facing impossible odds. Maybe you feel surrounded, maybe you feel forgotten. The good news for you is that our God can act suddenly in your situation. In a moment’s notice, everything can change for the better!

I believe and declare that God is going to open doors on your behalf. Your faith will be rewarded. Your dawn is almost here. He will put you in the right position to win. He is going to give you inside information. He will do the impossible in your life. Get ready!

Victoria (Osteen) and I love you and pray for you every day. We are believing God’s best for you, and we are so excited that you are going to see God move in your situation sooner than you think! You are going to be amazed at His goodness in the days to come.

Sincerely,

Joel and Victoria Osteen
