en otra voz, hablo

a otros hombres, escribo

acaso no saben que
me he convertido en pájaro irremediable

que invoco
fieras que habiten
tierras desoladas

que me habiten.

uno tras otro
desfilan

y, yo me vuelvo parapeto
propongo y fallo

caigo.

regreso a donde pertenezco

reposo

espero

rasguño
juro que nunca me fui.

La Sayona -

A vengeful spirit from Venezuela,  La Sayona only appears to unfaithful married men.  La Sayona wears a long white dress that resembles an old fashioned night gown. She is very similar to the Mexican legend of Llorona, but she does not cry. She is often looks away from people when they speak to her  because her face is just a skull with bad teeth. Legend says that  La Sayona was once a young and beautiful woman who was married to a very loving man and they had a baby boy together. One day when she was bathing naked in a river a man from the village saw her. From that day on the man followed her to the river to watch her bathe. When she told him to leave her alone he ignored her and instead told her that her husband is having an affair with her mother. She ran home and found her husband asleep with their baby in his arms. In a blind rage she burned the house down with them inside. She then ran to her mother’s house and attacked her with a machete. As her mother lay dying she cursed her by saying that from then on she would have to avenge all women by killing unfaithful husbands.

In most legends La Sayona normally approaches unfaithful men and asks for a cigarette or a car ride. After a few moments of talking to her they see her face and die. In other versions of the story  La Sayona appears in the jungle to lonely men who are willing to be unfaithful to their wives at home. She allows the men to have sex with her before devouring their body parts, normally their genitals which she would rip off with her bare hands so they can never be used again. Sometimes she will infect men with visible sexually transmitted diseases so that their wives will know that they have been unfaithful.

Many believe that having a piece of tobacco in your pocket will protect you from  La Sayona.
