vegan-shake

Harry was a health freak. Everyone knew that! He was obsessed with anything related to green juice, protein shakes, vegan substitutes… The one time he let himself go was when he made a batch of nice cream - Which was literally just a frozen banana blended up. You, on the other hand… That was a whole other story. You could survive if the world’s kale supply disappeared. You could survive on pizza, pasta, tacos… Anything that was high in carbs, you were rooting for. (No one really knew how you two started dating. It seemed like the opposites attract theory was actually real in your guys’ case.) It always baffled Harry whenever he’d watch you spoon mouthfuls of sugary cereal into your mouth while he sipped at his breakfast smoothie.

“Good morning!” You chirped, popping a kiss to Harry’s cheek before making your way to the cabinet. You were in the mood for a hearty bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Cinnamon Toast Crunch always made you work more productively.

“Morning.” Harry hummed, his spoon clinking against the sides of his mug as he stirred his butter into the coffee. He was currently bandwagoning on a new trend - ‘Bullet coffee’, as he called it, was disgusting in your eyes. Who the hell would want to drink a cup of lard-flavoured coffee in the morning?

“How’s your coffee?” You turned back to glance at Harry before rummaging through the cabinet for your cereal. Odd. Very odd. You swore you bought a new box last week - and it was the huge family sized one too so you couldn’t have finished it in the span of five-ish days - but for some reason, it wasn’t there. The rest of your cereal wasn’t there either. Your Fruity Pebbles, your Cocoa Puffs, your Cap’n Crunch… All gone! In their places were cereals such as Cheerio and cornflakes - And they weren’t even the glazed kinds!

“S’good. Yeh lookin’ for something?” You shut the cabinet doors, flipping around to give your boyfriend a pointed look. “No cereal today?”

“What did you do?” You scowled, walking over to lean against the kitchen counter. “Where’s all my cereal?”

“I’m not sure. But since your cereal supply is gone, and since you’re a breakfast person who currently has no breakfast…” Harry paused, pulling out three apples out of nowhere with a wide grin on his face. “How about them apples?”

“Wha- where were you hiding those?” You furrowed your brows in confusion, Harry shrugging casually before raising the apples up a little.

“C’mon, give them a try. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, y’know.” Harry smiled when you reluctantly took one of the apples from him. It was a success! Finally, you were going to eat something healthy for breakfast. “They’re much better than your Apple Jacks.”

“At least my Apple Jacks taste better.” You frowned, pouting at the apple in your hand before you thought of something. “Ah, I know!” Harry watched as you walked over to the fridge and rooted through some things before-

No. Y/N, no!” Harry whined, letting out a groan and holding the remaining two apples up. “I jus’ wanted you to have apples, not apples with bloody caramel sauce on top!”

“You’re the one who took my cereal away, so it’s technically your fault.” You shrugged, drizzling some of the sauce on the apple before taking an obnoxious type. “I might eat an apple for breakfast every day! Aren’t you proud of me?”

“You’re impossible.”

Im always posting images of individual meals I make, but as a change, I thought I’d write out what I ate today to show an example of what I, personally, find to be a balanced way of eating. The key word here is ‘personally’- what suits me will not suit everyone. This, however, is an example of a complete day’s intake for me to maintain myself as I am- which is a healthy and happy BMI 👍

Breakfast: Bowl of oatmeal made with 50:50 almond milk and water, chia seeds, dried cranberries and nuts. Black decaf coffee ☕️

Lunch: two small slices seeded wholemeal organic toast topped with ¼ mashed avocado 🥑 plus one cherry plum tomato and a hard boiled egg. Raspberries.

Snack: banana 🍌 and peanut butter 🥜

Dinner: wild mushroom and spelt stew, sweet potato 🍠 wedges and veggies

Snack: Vegan protein shake and some raisins.

I also drank about 2 litres water/ herbal tea throughout the day 💦

(Just realised today was accidentally vegetarian!)

“You’re twenty-two,” he yelped. The potato cake fell off his fork, delicious, scrumptious thing, but he couldn’t quite focus on the food any longer.

“Keep your voice down,” she muttered. “Twenty-three in November.”

“Holy fuck,” he gasped, sitting back from the table. “I’m ten years older than you.”

“So?”

“So, I hope to fucking hell that your father isn’t drinking tonight. Because if he knew how I’d been thinking about you all through dinner, he’d wipe the floor with me.”

She didn’t seem to think that was funny, but she seemed willing to roll right past it. “How - exactly - have you been thinking of me?”

“Lustfully,” he said blandly. His honesty had worked for him so far. “Undressing you with my eyes, among other things.”

She choked on something that might have been a laugh. “Well, for your sake, let’s hope he’s not out drinking.”

Oh, shit. Because then she’d have to go pick up her father. Fuck, he’d put his foot in his mouth on that one. Not what he’d meant. Only that he didn’t hit drunk guys and her father - shit. What a clusterfuck. “I’d like to meet him,” he said quickly.

She shot him a scalding, big mistake buddy, and stabbed at her potato cake with her fork. “Well, he doesn’t need to fucking meet you. In fact, you’re right. You two would definitely not get along.”

Why that stung so much, he had no idea. “Of course not. I’m a thirty-two year old man gazing lustfully at his twenty-two year old daughter.”

“That too,” she said breezily. Her eyes raked over him from across the table. “But that’s exactly why I’m letting you.. as you called it… gaze lustfully.”

“Oh?” he murmured. He loved when her voice dropped like that, how it rasped.

“You are not the same,” she chuckled. “My parents were defense attorneys. Big shot defense attorneys. They did pro bono work all the time.”

Were?

“You know,” she went on, “bleeding heart liberals. Not really the Army’s thing, Rick.”

He blinked, diverted from that were attorneys back to the sharp spark in her eyes when she called him Rick. He really liked that. “Oh, not true, Officer Beckett. I saw plenty of bleeding hearts in the Army.”

She lifted an eyebrow and a forkful of cabbage roll, her lips pale and alluring around the utensil.

“Sure,” he said, “eight of my guys were bleeding hearts on that last tour. Of course, to be fair, a mortar blew them to pieces so most of their body parts were bleeding.”

She dropped her fork.

It clattered off the table and to the floor in a strange dead space of complete silence in the deli so that everyone turned and looked at them.

He closed his eyes and ran a hand down his face. “Ignore me.”

“Holy shit.”

“Forget I said that. I’m not supposed to say that.”

“Holy. Shit. Rick.”

“You were eating. Let me get you a new fork.” He jolted to his feet, rocking the table and making their wine slosh in the glasses. He’d had one sip only - at her insistence - so he couldn’t even blame it on the alcohol. (Not that alcohol ever affected him.)

He escaped to the front register and asked for a clean fork, standing stupidly as he waited for the woman to hand him a new one. As he went back to the table, slowly, he got a handle on his control and psyched himself up for finishing the meal.

Hopefully in silence. Even if it was awkward, better than having to try to explain how he couldn’t explain, or worse, just not answering her questions.

When he sat down, he handed her the fork without looking. But she wrapped her fingers around his wrist instead. He glanced up at her and everything had dropped off her face, all of the amusement and humor and sarcasm. Gone.

“You hurt my feelings, talking about my father, and so I tried to hurt you back. But I struck something deeper than I meant.”

“So did I,” he rasped. “About your father.”

She nodded shortly and released his hand, taking the fork, and he realized then that none of that had been an apology. And yet.

He wanted to know what had happened to make her parents no longer be bleeding heart liberals, why they used to be defense attorneys but weren’t any more. The drinking? Something bigger?

“How about we agree to avoid my father and your time in the service?” she said then. She poked her fork across the table and speared one of his pieces of potato cake, pushed it into her mouth. She grinned at him as she savored the bite, her lips making the effort.

It was too bad; he really would like to know about her father - all the things she wanted to avoid. “All right,” he agreed.

It was the only way. Maybe later, if he touched on his subject, she’d share something of hers.

I work at a restaurant that serves vegan "milkshakes." If someone orders a vegan shake with a non-vegan shake, the employee who makes them will just make two non-vegan shakes because it's too much of a "hassle." The employee is really good friends with my boss and I don't know what to do!

Can’t you report something like this? Like what if someone had a severe dairy allergy…

U2 - Chicago - Soldier Field Night #2 - 6/4/17

You know you are getting old when you consciously plan your daily nutrition around a weekend of general admission concert seating. After barely three hours of sleep Saturday night, I timed my meals, downed a vegan protein shake, and it was off to the races again.

I arrived at Soldier Field about the same time as the night before, though THIS time, I opted for a spot near the main stage. When I see multiple shows on a tour (especially U2′s because of their stage setups) I like to try different vantage points. As I noted yesterday, I was too short to see them well on the main stage from my spot at the Tree. This shift in locale turned out to be a wise choice because they spent less time at the Tree last night. Surprisingly, we found a lot of space up front when we arrived and I wound up one person deep against the barrier, right in front of Adam. I’d also like to point out that aside from a few folks, the people around us were MUCH friendlier.

Bono was in a great mood - a lighter mood. And he mentioned again how much they feel Chicago is a home away from home, also saying “We’re more of a Sunday evening/Monday morning kind of band…” After they’d finished the full record and were into the encore he strutted down the bridge announcing, “I’m not ready to leave yet!” Earlier he’d looked at the The Edge and said, “Two shows in a row! That means we can take a drink later!” Let’s just hope it’s one…we don’t need anymore injuries…;).

Aside from the giant, beautiful face of Larry blowing us all a kiss (and smirking afterward, knowing he’d just simultaneously impregnated half the stadium), the greatest moment of the entire evening was finally hearing “A Sort of Homecoming.” Absolute dream…(If I can get them to play “Hawkmoon…” I might finally need the padded room…).

They’ve just released more tour dates. I think I may try for another. But before that, it’s Dublin. Can’t. Wait. :)

Can you do a post of essential/easy and quick to cook vegan recipes? I just became vegan and I don't know how to make anything tasty yet! Also I work late so I don't have a lot of time to prepare meals.

I just posted this quick & easy round up for you. It consists of primarily lunch/dinner meals so here are some other options:

breakfast:

snacks:

desserts:

Quick soups are always a good choice like this 15-minute miso soup with greens and tofu or this easy vegan lentil soup. Stock up on lots of frozen fruits, juices and vegan milks for smoothies and fresh veggies for filling salads. Grab tofu or tempeh and frozen veggies for fast stir frys. Canned beans are great for everything quick from three bean salad to chili. If you have a Taco Bell craving try this taco crunch wrap (or even go to Taco Bell if you’re super short on time; check out vegan options at other fast food places and restaurants). Here are 20 vegan meals you can make in 20 minutes or less. As for making everything taste good spices and herbs are key; here’s a list of some really great ones to use often as well as a full vegan pantry list. I hope some of this helps!
