Pallas Athena/Minerva with her aegis. Roman mosaic (3rd cent. CE), surrounded by a modern (18th century) mosaic depicting celestial bodies and geometrical patterns. Now in the Museo Pio-Clementino, Vatican City.
Detail of a Golden Rose, a papal honor which was given to Catholic princes by the Holy Father as a sign of affection or honor. They were traditionally blessed on Lætare Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent (which may actually be the reason why rose-colored vestments are worn on that day).
