vanished years

WATER

EARTH

Fire

AIR

Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avacatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I adopted the new Avacatar, a kittybender named Steve. And although his felinebending skills are great, he still has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Steve can save the world.

AVATAR
  • you: the blue people movie
  • me, an intellectual: Water... Earth... Fire... Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he still has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world.

“He remembers those vanished years. As though looking through a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct.”

heronstairs-fan  asked:

please see this, cassie! Magnus's apocolyptic dream in COLS about a city made of bones and blood running through the streets, was that a symbol of Sebastian coming? or is this something that will happen in The Wicked Powers series when they'll face the greatest threat yet??

From Lord of Shadows

Magnus shook his head without answering. “Years ago,” he said, “I had a recurring dream, about a city drowned in blood. Towers made of bone and blood running in the streets like water. I thought later that it was about the Dark War, and indeed the dream vanished in the years after the war was fought.” He drained his glass and set it down. “But lately I’ve been dreaming it again. I can’t help but think something is coming.”

Okay but consider this- Elizabeth Swann. She’s a pirate nerd from the beginning. She’s fascinated. And by the time the Black Pearl blasts Port Royal she knows enough to defend herself- first with the iron, then with the Code. That nerd studied pirate law enough to quote it.

And not just pirates. Presumably she’s been on a ship once- when she comes over from England. But nope no piracy wasn’t enough for this kid no she did some intense studying of sailing too because why not. So when they’re being chased down who’s coming up with all these nautical maneuvers? Elizabeth fucking Swann, sea nerd extraordinaire.

Fast forward and she’s not just a nerd anymore. And she isn’t a pirate, either. She’s the Pirate King, doing battle with Davy Jones and the entire British navy, with every Pirate Lord and their crews behind her. No more improvised weapons, no more parlay- she commands every black heart that ever set sail. And then her bae becomes ferryman for every soul lost at sea.

So then what? Everyone just goes back to what they were doing? And Elizabeth just goes home to make a quiet life for herself as a single mum? From studious sea nerd to Pirate King and now suddenly she’s happier at home, waiting for Will?

Give me an epilogue where Elizabeth has her father’s estate and enough gold to keep her comfortable for a lifetime, but instead travels the world, her son at her side. Adventuring and exploring, in and out of the law. Tell me she calls up Calypso for tea from time to time and they talk about uncharted lands and the price of sugar. Tell me in some ports she’s recognized as the daughter of Governor Swann and wined and dined. Tell me in some ports she’s recognized as the Pirate King and gets barrels rum on the house.

Tell me even honest sailors whisper stories of the mysterious and elusive Pirate King, who rarely strikes at all but then vanishes for years at a time.

Tell me Elizabeth spends time aboard the Flying Dutchman, so she can be with her husband, and her son can be with his father and grandfather. Imagine young William learns to sail on his father’s journeys to and from the land of the dead. And when he finally captains his own ship, he’s learned to be both a respectable gentleman and a good pirate.

Imagine Elizabeth spending her life on the sea, sometimes with Will and sometimes not, with a wind from Calypso always in her sails, adventuring enough for lifetimes as a part-time well bred lady, part-time Pirate King.

Someone: “Huh, she must think some intellectual things. She’s always so quiet and concentrated.”

My mind: “Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang…”

Webkinz, Club Penguin, Neopets, Bearvile.
Long ago, the four websites lived together in harmony, then everything changed when Neopets attacked. Only Bearvile, master of all four elements can stop them. But when the world needed them most, they vanished. A few years passed and my brother and i discovered a new avatar, a website named Poptropica. And though their website skills were great they have a lot to learn before they’re ready to save anyone. But I believe, Poptropica will save the web

The First Order taught Finn numbers and the feeling of his finger on the trigger and the taste of ash and fire, but it didn’t teach him how to lie.

Honesty was drilled into their heads: follow commands at all costs, and the sterile environment was clean corners and cut edges with no room left for deception. The tables were bolted to the floor and the bunks were cut clear from the metal walls, and their armour, uniform and identical, had Specific Places for Specific Things, and no room for anything else.

It’s strange, Finn thinks, because in the end, all the First Order did was lie.

It told him that they protected the universe from fear and death and decay, that what they did was vital, that it protected them all from chaos and destruction. That the brothers and sisters they lost over the years; vanishing quietly into that good night, transferred off-ship and never heard from again, had simply never existed, instead drawn from the imagination of soldiers who had never been taught how to dream.

Later, much, much later, in the still darkness of Organa’s office he reads about how FN-2774, a familiar face with thin cheeks and black eyes, had dissented, like Finn, and but unlike Finn there hadn’t been a starry eyed pilot or a desert scavenger with calloused hands to carry him away, and FN-2774 had died alone, executed on a starship away from their squad and any hope of rescue.

The day after, when they awoke to an empty bunk, Slip had stolen FN-2774’s uneaten rations and celebrated by stuffing the food bars into his mouth and chewing noisily. Finn can’t remember if he had laughed or not, but he hopes he didn’t. He hopes he’d remained silent, if only for a moment, and now, ten years on, he reads through the report again, cutting out the familiar face and pulling it close to the thirteen other brothers who had met their end with a kiss from the barrel of Phasma’s blaster.

Finn feels very sick, enough to taste bile in the back of his throat, because really the list of names is endless, and the possibility of hundreds, thousands more is revolting and heart-breaking and threatens to swallow him whole.

Organa tells him, in her sad, hoarse voice: “they will be remembered as good people.”

Whoever told you that stardust is beautiful?

Stars were never peaceful
Never pretty;
They’re writhing balls of fire
Fighting vicious and alone against the endless cold of the universe.
They don’t shine for anyone;
They’re just burning,
Burning
Burning
Destroying themselves from the inside out
In a hopeless quest for survival.

Stardust is their death.
It’s the last vestige of a burnt-out inferno
Turned cold in the vast darkness of space.
It’s a million years of vanished history.
It’s the remnants of a cosmic war.
It’s the dying wish of a burning star,
An infinity of ashes tossed into the universe
A shattered corpse scattered through time and space.

It’s angry.
It’s deadly.
It’s burning and cold and desperate and vengeful.

It was never beautiful.

—  and darling, you and I are made of stardust. ( j.p. )
