utilisation

been thinking a lot abt some recent experiences alongside this: https://www.buzzfeed.com/aishamirza/until-white-women-ruined-it?utm_term=.hpAQ405br#.atd3m0ja6

and i think one reason the white girl who loves non-white cultures a bit too exuberantly, a bit too loudly, too performatively makes WoC uneasy is bc we recognise that she was probably the girl who stuck out her tongue at our foods in primary school, who will probably become the 40yo WW who talks over or condescendingly to their non-white coworkers, who utilises non-white labour for their own financial/social gain w/o compensating the non-whites whose labour they stole, who votes for their personal interests while recognising the harm this will do to others she doesn’t need to care about.  performative interest in non-whiteness is scary bc its so easy to shed, while requiring virtually no commitment to bringing about any equitable future world.  in fact the cultural capital they relish in, the identity of being a ‘cool white’ necessarily depends on maintaining hegemonic racism bc that is what enables them to distinguish themselves as superior to, different from other whites + doing so absolves them of any responsibility for their own whiteness.  i think Woc intuitively understand that for the other-loving white girl what is at her heart is maintaining an identity of superiority and not bringing about transformations in the world that make anti-racist action commonplace, and we know this ultimately undermines the work we r trying so hard to do bc now we are dealing w insincerity, smoke and mirrors.  talking n teaching make absolutely no difference here bc we r dealing w someone who sees the problem but chooses to benefit personally from it, albeit in a non-mainstream, trendy way.

The new AMG S63 4MATIC+ “The Luxury Rocket Launcher”.
New peak of performance: M177 4.0L V8 biturbo engine with twin-scroll turbochargers

The versatile AMG 4.0L biturbo V8 engine in the S63 4MATIC+ takes peak performance to a new level at 450kW (612hp). Maximum torque attains a new best value of 900Nm. It is available over a broad engine speed range of 2750 to 4500rpm and so provides a feeling of effortless superiority in every accelerator pedal position. A sprint from zero to 100 km/h is absolved in 3.5 seconds, and this dynamic acceleration only ends at the governed top speed of 250km/h (with AMG Driver’s package: 300km/h).
The advanced AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine utilises well-proven twin turbocharging, with the two chargers not located outside on the cylinder banks, but rather between them in the V of the cylinders. The advantages of the “hot inner V” are a compact engine design, an immediate response from the twin-scroll turbochargers and low exhaust gas emissions thanks to optimum air flow for the close-coupled catalytic converters.
Two twin-scroll turbochargers are deployed for the first time to boost performance and improve responsiveness further. The housing is divided into two parallel flow passages. Combined with two separate exhaust ducts in the exhaust manifold, this makes it possible to control the exhaust gases on the turbine wheel separately. The exhaust gas from the first and fourth cylinders of the cylinder bank is fed into one duct and exhaust gas from the second and third cylinders to the other duct. The aim is to prevent the individual cylinders from having mutually adverse effects on the gas cycle.
The results are increased output due to improved cylinder charge with fresh mixture, more torque at low revs and very immediate response times.

The reason I hate the “Shakespeare didn’t actually write Shakespeare” theories so much is they seem to be inherently rooted in taking his works away from ordinary people. “The son of a glovemaker could never have written these plays! Surely only an Aristocratic Intellectual, like the Earl of Oxford, could be responsible!"

Honestly fuck off. Shakespeare was one of us. His plays were written for the masses. He was an ordinary man who captured the voice of the people and the depths of their emotions. We credit Shakespeare with making up words and phrases, but who’s to say he wasn’t writing down what he heard on the streets? "But something as complex as Hamlet could never have been written by Shakespeare! It must have been the work of a nobleman!” Well guess what, not only did he write it, but he wrote it because that’s what his audience liked. The hordes of ordinary people consumed his deeply philosophical play about a young man musing over life and death and sin and they LOVED it.

Shakespeare was a crowd-pleaser and an entertainer, and reason his work is so beautiful and poetic and philosophical (as well as bloody and sexual!) is because he was responding to popular demand. Most people attending the theatre were illiterate; they consumed literature by listening, and this is one of the reasons why playwrights utilised iambic pentameter and rhyming schemes. Their dialogue is poetry, and it’s beautiful to listen to. The first time Romeo and Juliet meet, their shared dialogue creates a sonnet. Imagine a commoner sitting in the crowd listening to that, and it hits him like an arrow, wow, listen to the way these characters speak, this is love at first sight.

Shakespeare was an ordinary man, and the beauty and complexity of his works were fuelled largely by the appetite of ordinary people. Although plays could be written and performed for the aristocracy, it was the hordes at the theatres that one had to keep happy. This modern obsession with putting him on a pedestal and trying to make him high culture or inaccessible to ordinary people is just gross. This upstart crow will always be one of us, and his work will always be for us.

Soul Purpose of Sun Signs

Sun in Aries: To radiate the Divine Light and activate the Divine Mind as a reservoir of fresh ideas emanating straight from the pure Source. As consciousness streams from heaven to earth, God’s will is put into action

“An incarnation taken with the Sun in Aries is to serve as a fertile field of fire, clearing and cleaning the mind.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Taurus: To manifest the pure, exquisite beauty of the soul into the material realm. Soul level beauty makes an appearance every day, as attachment is lost and light is sourced internally and externally. Taurus is a force of attraction to the ideas that give beauty substance.

“An incarnation taken with the Sun in Taurus has a great deal to do with the right use of magnetism. Taurus can add its tremendous magnetic qualities to attract the correct form around any inspirational idea.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Gemini: Infusing chaotic worlds of opposition into harmonic unity, to blend yin yang, masculine and feminine, light and shadow, soul and body. Fluid mutability re-arranges and relates all things so duality is resolves and evolution is generated. The sacred messenger is activated when spirit and personality integrate

“To be an agent for Venus on the subjective level of life and use the power of Mercury objectively. In this way, the Sun in Gemini serves as a vehicle for communicating the Law of Right Human Relationships: Peace on Earth and Goodwill to (Wo)Men.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Cancer: To provide nourishment, armour, and protection materially and immaterially to all of Creation, as an all-encompassing substance much like the amniotic fluids. Offering nurturing from the Goddess to all forms. Stimulation of soul light

“To create foundations: a foundation for future incarnations based on the intelligent blending of Will and Love, and the anchoring of a foundation of inner and outer resources to bring the nurturing Love of the Soul to others.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Leo: To radiate the marvellous will and artistry of God and the Master Plan through daily life. To display and be the architect of Divine Love and act as an extension of infinite cosmic creativity

“To create opportunities for the expression of consciousness, both individually and collectively. The latter is achieved through Leo´s creative processes” - Alan Oken

Sun in Virgo: Activation of healing, universal service, and refining the lower self and mind. To utilise tremendous discrimination to bring about good will and assistance to the world, to work on behalf of the Soul of the World for the evolution of the Virgo Soul

“To provide the necessary forms through which consciousness (Love) may do the work of the Healer and bring a greater sense of wholeness into manifestation.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Libra: The soul takes a breath here. It ascends from the lower to the higher self and perceives opposition and duality in clear form. To stand in the middle and navigate polarities, to unify and create equality with seamless synthesis

“To hold opposing forces in check so that greater awareness of both the Soul and the personality may be achieved equally by all.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Scorpio: The Dweller of the Threshold awakens in Scorpio. Ultimate desire is the fire under the Soul as the higher self battles with the lower self for Divine purity. These battles facilitate sacred states of transformation which generate deeper and deeper love from the Soul

“To be a catalyst for the transformation of others, and by so doing, to transform the ego; an opportunity for Grace.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Sagittarius: The contrasting desires of the lower and higher self become integrated and focused toward the spiritual mission of the Soul itself. The guru awakens as the higher mind is cultivated with the Laws of Spiritual Nature when fastidious logic unifies with God’s vision

“Sagittarius must use its well earned one-pointed focus to orient the life to some lofty objective, one which allows him or her to be a teacher of the ways of the Path.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Capricorn: To express the Master Plan and blueprint of God’s Mind into daily life on behalf of the collective. To undertake tremendous internal challenges so the soul’s true purpose is recognised and realised in reality.

“Initiation. Capricorn represents that stage in spiritual growth in which all the efforts at spiritual growth culminate in advanced spiritual awareness.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Aquarius: To activate the light of Leo into the Soul of humanity, to be the reservoir that nourishes collective consciousness so evolution is possible for all beings. To awaken intuition with emotional and cerebral intelligence

“To create those human links and contacts that allow the Love/ Wisdom of the solar system to be expressed very specifically through the human mind.” - Alan Oken

Sun in Pisces: All dualities are resolved into a watery crystal and reflect only blinding Soul light. Liquid leaks all division, so material and immaterial unify and the identity is sacrificed to something higher. Acting on behalf of Soul purpose

“To undergo and teach those tests of increased spiritual awareness that create an identification with the whole of human experience.” - Alan Oken

🔔 BELLS IN WITCHCRAFT 🔔

Bells might just be the earliest form of superstitious practise that I remember. My baba attached three sakura-patterned suzu bells on my schoolbag as a kid, purportedly for good luck and protection from evil spirits – and Japan is far from the only place to have associated bells and bellringing with mystic practise. They’ve been used worldwide to ward off evil and carry messages – and in a more metaphysical sense, sound is the movement of energy through substance. Sounds have the potential to work powerful magic.

Here are some of the ways I’ve found utilising bells to be helpful to my craft. While I’m more likely to use traditional suzu type bells, your own background, path and culture will likely have its own types of bells – and as ever, bells can be ornate antiques or they can be a bottle cap in a tin can, as long as they’re used with intent.

GETTING STARTED

🔔 As with so much of the craft, if you’re new to the witching bell, it’s a matter of exploration and experimentation. Get a “feel” for what works for you and the specific bell you’re using.

🔔 It’s good practise to ensure that the bell itself is cleansed, warded and protected – you don’t want anything nasty tapping into that power. All witching tools can do as much harm as good, intentional or accidental.

🔔 A good way to begin incorporating bells into your craft is infuse them into any typical ritual that you’re comfortable with, or even just a prayer or moment of contemplation at your altar if you have one.

🔔 Give the bell a soft ring while focusing on the energy it’ll ripple and move, try to track the movements it creates and what it touches. The tone it’s sending out.  The most primal and versatile use of the bell – and what many of the below come down to – is simply another manner of physically channelling energy, giving it shape and direction.

PROTECTION

🔔 “Passive” bells such as windchimes or small bells attached to belongings you don’t want disturbed are a starting point. They will scare off some forms of spirit all by themselves, especially if appropriately blessed, charmed or enchanted. Or cursed.

🔔 Gently tolling can draw energy into a ward or circle you are forming and enforce its protective properties, or for a simple cleanse, letting the sound travel to every corner of the area you are protecting. It’s a little more “cutting” than a smoke or incense cleansing, which I view as more “gentle” forms of cleansing. Both have their uses.

🔔 Harder tolling is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful ways in which to enforce a banishing – however, it’s best to you know what you’re doing with the bell before you go bashing it about.

DISCERNMENT

🔔 Bells can have quite the effect on your perception and awareness. Ringing and then stopping, listening to the silence left in its wake, can bring you new perceptions or make things you’d previously missed obvious. Let it attune your mind and senses to something new, whether that’s in your thoughts or something with a little more presence. Visualise travelling with the sound, taking heed of the energies it touches and disturbs. Take note of the echoes – you’ll learn what they mean with experience.

🔔 A set of windchimes can let you know if something is passing through or if there’s some unusual energy afoot – and, yes, it may also just be letting you know that it’s a particularly breezy day, but that’s witchcraft for you.

CONJURING

🔔 This can be as simple as calling good energies to witching tools, spell jars, tarot decks, crystals, altars and shrines, your favourite teddy bar, anything at all.

🔔 With spirit work, it can truly help to magnify your “calling”. This can range from gently bringing your latest offering to the attention of your friendly neighbourhood house spirit – all the way to trying to catch the attention of something more. Be mindful, however. As I said, I consider bells pretty powerful tools and a call that’s too loud is not good spirit work practise for the spirit worker’s own sake. It can really help coax something out of hiding if you’re gentle with it, though.

COMMUNING

🔔 Some use bells to mark the beginning and end of a ritual, and I’ve read that in Wiccan practise an altar bell can be used to invoke the Goddess, although as a non-Wiccan, I’ll welcome corrections on that if I’m wrong.

🔔 In my experience, very simple forms of communication via bell work a lot better than anything too complex – “come here” and “stay away” have already been covered, and other than that they can serve as greetings or signals of a start or end of some practise or ritual, the opening or closing of a door, etc.

🔔 They can also serve as a warning or a litmus test regarding spirits, a signalling of your presence and awareness, lack of fear, or willingness to defend – but be prepared to deal with whatever responses these garner.

BINDING

🔔 Bindings are where you most often see that famous (clockwise) circular motion of the bell, embodying the meaning of the spell. This can be a simple binding to seal a spell or charm or enchantment, or a spirit-binding.

🔔 Personally, spirit-binding is something I do as little as possible simply due to my beliefs holding the autonomy of spirits in very high regard. However, sometimes situations arise that call for it, and I’m aware that not all bindings are unwilling. Far from it – and some spirits are dangerous when unbound.

🔔 As an animist (believing that all things, including inanimate objects, contain a spirit of their own), I consider gently nudging a spirit back into its physical form a sort of semi-binding, and that can be useful.

I’ll leave you all with a note that I am an urban apartment-dwelling witch through and through, so I understand that we can’t all be jangling away at all hours. I myself have a glass windchime in my front window that makes a distinct but muted sound when disturbed by passers-through, and highly recommend wooden ones also. I also only use my small and relatively quiet suzu bell for my crafting – one given to me by my baba herself.

Feel free to add any of your own findings, and happy tolling.

I love the fact that he’s so focused and passionate about his career, that he’s not the slightest bit bothered about mine. He’s not concerned. He loves that I’m concentrating on building something and he understands that I need my space during the day and instead saves all his energy for when we talk later. No controlling, no guilt trips, no drama. Just two busy people, passionately utilising their day whilst looking forward to connecting at the end.

Indoor plants for the space-conscious witch

Let’s face it, some of us witches just don’t have the time/space for having a fully flourishing witchy garden, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t utilise the full benefits of nature’s plants in our own spaces! Here is a list of house friendly plants that can enhance your personal space in various ways:

Geranium: These plants can provide luck and good fortune in various different ways, depending on the colour of your flower. Choose red geraniums for vitality and invigoration, pink for love, or white for fertility.

Rose: These flowers are notorious for their properties of love and friendship, and it is possible to grow miniature roses inside, or perhaps choose another Venus-ruled plant such as the maidenhair fern for the same benefits.

Impatiens: This plant, ruled by Mercury and often known as ‘busy lizzie’, does exactly what you would think it would; encourages movement and travel in your life.

Aspidistra: Ruled by Saturn, this plant encourages tranquility and homeliness, calming fears and dispelling nightmares. Another plant which achieves the same nightmare-warding effects is the cyclamen, often used throughout history to protect against evil spirits.

Thistle: A vase of thistles is thought to restore strength and vitality to those who are feeling down or depressed and have been used to ward off thieves.

Yellow plants: Arrange two yellow or orange plants, full of the Sun’s vibrant energy in front of two mirrors so they reflect the energy into your room, dispelling evil and encouraging good. This simple flower magic can be performed with any planetary influences depending on your intention.

take the time to read this

look I know you’re tired, and I know you’re scared. scared of that daunting task, scared of screwing up that daunting task. I get that you might be mad at yourself for procrastinating or letting the work with seemingly far away deadlines pile up and suddenly it’s 1am and you realise your thesis for that essay is horrible and you have no idea what the hell you’re talking about. but all of that is in the past, all of those decisions in the past and you can wallow in anger and self loathing and continue to put off things you know are important, or, you could utilise the time you have right now to do as much of it as you possibly can as soon as you can. so go onto google calendar, or grab your planner, or a scrap of paper or hell, a napkin, and figure out the time you have on your hands in the next 24 hours, estimate how long you think those big horrible, breath shaking and head-in-hands inducing tasks will take. if you get it done in that time, great. if you don’t, move on, you have other shit to do. it’s better to have 85% of most things done than 98% of one thing done and 2% of another thing done that will turn out to be equally as important. save yourself further stress, do the napkin plan thing, block social media sites, write down what you’re feeling if you’re feeling anything immense, because emotions tend to take your mind off things, and get it done. Whether it’s %100, %85 or even %10, get some of it done.

It’s difficult for someone to deal with my vibrant personality and random mood changes. That’s why I love being single. I don’t need to explain myself. As a creative, my mood solely depends on how much I utilise my day. It’s so mad. If I’ve had a great day, I’m in a good mood, if I feel like I’ve wasted a day - please don’t talk to me. I take it personally that I’ve wasted a day and don’t want to be bothered. I think I’m slightly a perfectionist but at the same time a serial procrastinator.

Hey Nai, hope you're having a peaceful day. I have three raised beds in my herb garden, currently rosemary is the only permanent fixture. How do you recommend I make the most of the three beds utilising witchy and edible herbs? 💕

So, the absolute best way to have an herb garden (in my opinion anyway) is an herb spiralThe main reasons for this are 1) It provides more surface area for planting, maximizing the space, 2) Simulates different moisture levels, temperature, and light levels (full sun, partial shade, etc). This means that you can grow a variety of plants in one spot, including some you may not be able to grow normally in your climate 3) After set up, it has minimal maintenance, but tends to produce more due to specific needs being met.

I plan on documenting the new one I build - I just got the bricks today! (There’s other materials you can use instead)

Tips for flat beds/gardens in general:

  • Lasagna gardening. It sounds silly, I know, but it’s a method of farming that creates really healthy plants, with minimal weeding required. Read about it, you’ll thank me later.
  •  Look for companion plantsThis is more important if you plan to plant vegetables, as some vegetables can affect growth if planted next to each other, but another reason is pest control. A lot of herbs repel specific insects that tend to eat specific crops (like catnip, hyssop, rosemary and sage deter cabbage moth), so it’s a pesticide free way of protecting your garden. Some even encourage flavor or growth.
  • Make sure to pair plants with similar needs together - rosemary likes it a bit drier, so don’t plant it next to mint, which likes lots of water.
  • Actually it’s probably best if you left mint in a container. It’s a ‘weed’, as in it takes over everything and can be hard to get rid of. You should look into things like that as well before planting anything.
  •  If you have pets, please make sure to look into things that can hurt them. A lot of plants we like to use aren’t so good for our furry friends, some are actually deadly.

The Witchy side of things:

  • Talk/sing to your plants as you tend to them, and as you spend time in the garden. Some non-witchy people do this as well, because it encourages growth. Personally, I think the stronger your relationship with the plant spirit the more effective the harvest will be in spells, but that’s not verified or anything.
  • Making your own compost makes a wonderful offering/gift to thank the plants when you harvest them. It’s also good for them, and you can feel good knowing that you’re putting less stuff in a landfill.
  • If you’re the type to use sigils, lightly carving them on the surface of your garden is simple and invisible.
  • If you worship a certain deity, making a tribute garden can be a great gift to them. Some of the seeds I ordered are for that, actually.

  • Make a meditation space around your plants. If you work hard to make a healthy and peaceful garden, it can become your solace, and a sacred area for spellwork. A place to clear your head to focus on your craft is really beneficial! :)

anonymous asked:

Wouldn't all your flower bulbasaurs actually be ivysaurs since they evolve when they bloom??

Contrary to popular belief the plant is not part of Bulbasaur itself - it is a separate organism that is planted there, as all good trainers should know from the Pokedex: “A strange seed was planted on its back at birth. The plant sprouts and grows with this Pokémon.”

Bulbasaur can’t survive without this plant as it depends on it for photosynthesis. The plant and Bulbasaur have a mutualistic relationship, where Bulbasaur receives photosynthetic energy from the plant and can also utilise it for defensive capabilities such as Spore and Vine Whip; the plant receives a host that protects it and also proliferates it when the Bulbasaur evolves and breeds.

As the plant is a distinct organism, it develops independently and can flower before Bulbasaur evolves. In fact the opposite of your statement is true - Bulbasaur doesn’t evolve when the plant blooms, rather the energy of evolution will force an unbloomed plant to bloom, meaning all Ivysaur will have a bloomed plant.

Bulbasaur and Ivysaur are distinguished by their own physiology, not from that of the plant that is on their back:

The leaf structure is an interface between the host and the plant, and does not truly belong to just one, which is why it changes upon evolution.

facebook and reposting

I know nobody’s here for long spiels, but this might be a bit lengthy… I’d much rather fill my dash with replies to you guys about stuff that has actual substance, or just post art in general, but this needs to be said.

Please don’t message me to ask if you can re-post/re-upload/re-distribute my work. I have an instagram, twitter AND tumblr where I distribute my work. That’s where I’d like to keep it.

I appreciate the respect you’re giving by asking, but it gets exhausting to keep saying ‘thank you, BUT’…it says clearly on my description page to Not Repost Anywhere. It does not say ‘Please only repost with permission’ it just says Don’t Do It. If you send me IM’s about re-uploading my work on instagram/FB/twitter/wattpad etc, I will ignore it. My silence isn’t an unspoken ‘do whatever you want’, it is a blatant ‘no’. OTL

In terms of Facebook - I respect and admire the effort put in by those who run translation fanpages - but I will also have to automatically decline all of your requests. Not because I don’t want my work to be accessible to those who don’t speak English, but because I’ve had multiple facebook accounts re-upload my work without my consent and with barely any credit/proper captioning of the work. And whenever I’ve tried to fix the issue, I’ve either been blocked, or had the re-posters try and lecture me about how I’m asking for the impossible.

Artists don’t ask for much. We do this for free and because we enjoy sharing our love for a series with the world in the best way we know how - by drawing out our feelings and ideas. It’s honestly a bonus and privilege to be able to earn money from my fanwork/fanmerch, and I greatly appreciate every gesture of patronage.

Artists shouldn’t have to ‘suck it up’ or be ‘aware that this comes with the territory’. Some artists, especially those who share work on Pixiv, face very real VERY serious legal repercussions if their fanwork is tracked back to them from sites that they did not consent to it being uploaded to. It doesn’t take much to paste a Pixiv artists description into google translate to see if they have said ‘Do Not Repost’ in their native tongue.

Please respect artists. Please look at our descriptions, read our FAQs and consider ‘why am I re-posting in the first place? Do I have explicit permission? Did I check if they allow this? why not just support and spread my appreciation for their work by reblogging their art post, or telling friends about their blog/twitter/pixiv?’

Artists are not machines made of endless amounts of money, time, or energy. We’re human beings that thrive on feedback, communication, and mutual respect. I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am now if not for the wonderful, kind people who supported and encouraged me on my art accounts. To those who support artists by re-blogging our work and/or keyboard smash their thoughts at us, I love you dearly. To those who support artists by purchasing our prints/keychains/charms/standees/zines? You guys are phenomenal, we couldn’t do half of what we do without you.

To the re-posters however? And to those who try to lecture artists about the Ways Of the Internet and how Reposting is Inevitable? The solution starts with YOU, not us. Mutual respect and honest communication, please utilise it.
