December 28th 1882: Lili Elbe born

On this day in 1882, Danish painter Lili Elbe was born in Vejle, Denmark. Born as Einar Wegener, Elbe was assigned the male gender at birth. Elbe was a talented artist, and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. While studying there, she met Gerda Gottlieb, and the two married in 1904. Both talented artists, Gottlieb often had her husband sit in for her fashion paintings dressed in women’s clothing. These experiences proved transformative, and Elbe began to envision living as the woman she always knew she was. The couple traveled throughout Europe, and, upon settling in Paris, Elbe began to live publicly as a woman. In the 1920s, she learned about the possibility of permanent sex reassignment surgery, which was being offered at a clinic in Berlin. In the early 1930s, Elbe began the operations, becoming one of the first recipients of sex reassignment surgery. Some reports from the operations, and Elbe’s diaries, indicate that she may have been intersex. Upon completion of the surgery, Elbe was able to legally change her name and gender. However, this legal recognition meant that her marriage to Gottlieb was ruled null and void, and the pair divorced amicably. Despite completing the transition, Elbe continued to suffer from depression and fear of rejection, and she stopped painting entirely. Elbe soon became engaged to an art dealer, and underwent a final surgery to transplant a uterus and construct a vagina, hoping she would be able to have children. However, in September 1931, Lili Elbe died from complications as a result of the surgery, just before her 50th birthday. Lili Elbe’s life is an inspirational story of an early transgender pioneer, and was widely circulated through the 1933 book Man Into Woman. Interest in Elbe has increased in recent years due to the publication of the novel The Danish Girl in 2000, which was made into a feature film by the same name in 2015.

I just simply cannot understand people who think that "uterus transplants" are in any way a good idea. Female bodies are specially adapted for pregnancy, there is no way that a male could provide the same specialized environment for a developing fetus!! Like I don't understand how my libfem friends aren't thinking about this - if I wasn't already heavily radical leaning this would 100% be my peak trans moment

The female body is not seen or spoken of as whole, complete, functioning, or with intention. People do not see the error of speaking of female bodies as separate commodified parts because that’s how women are imagined and treated. Pregnancy is not seen as a biological process of femaleness (like sperm production is of males) but rather a production, a performance. That’s why someone can say “uterine transplant checkmate” even though it sounds as ridiculous as if someone said “Brain transplant checkmate”

celebrate those TERF milestones!

✓ learning what the acronym TERF stands for and look up radical feminism because you want to know what all the fuss is about

✓  start noticing how male voices and perspectives are centred in every conversation ever✓ getting your posts reblogged with blatant lies added and then immediately blocked so you can’t defend yourself

✓ hitting Peak Trans

✓ actively choosing to stop treating women’s opinions as less real or significant then men’s

✓ stop ignoring the wisdom and experience of older women, specifically older feminists, whose voices are belittled or ignored by mainstream liberals

✓ committing literal violence by agreeing with biological facts

✓ stopping yourself from defending the men in your personal life all the goddamn time

 ○  getting kicked out of/leaving left-wing/progressive groups due to believing that prostitution and porn are not empowering types of employment and that the Nordic Model has been the most effective in combatting sex trafficking (haven’t had this happen to me yet)

✓ someone you know IRL threatening to punch you in the face for saying that non-binary gender identity doesn’t make sense because it exists in binary opposition to the concept of binary gender identity

✓ being featured on an Official TERF Block List™

○ being fired from a job because genderists harass your employers to the breaking point (has not happened to me, thankfully)

✓ getting a completely irrelevant comment that had nothing to do with transgenderism featured on a Facebook page that tries to doxx TERFS (however the mentally unstable male narcissist who ran that page was too dumb to doxx us so he just showed information about me that was already publically available and easily found on my website and business cards which I distribute to anyone interested)

✓ “OP is a TERF”

○ blog posts plagiarized by brain dead liberal fauxminists (has happened to many other radfems on this shitty blue website)

✓ commit literal murder by not being sexually available to every interested male in the universe

✓ demonically commit genocide against all heterosexual ‘femmes’ by not always wearing make-up

✓ convert your mom to an unknowingly radical feminist

✓ getting hatemail that is 100% ambiguous as to whether it was sent by a genderist or an MRA

✓ getting your posts reblogged with blatant lies added and then immediately blocked so you can’t defend yourself

✓ stop believing the blatant lies told about Andrea Dworkin and discovering how amazing she is

✓ getting told I need to “wash my crusty vagina” by total strangers on the internet who don’t seem to understand that vaginas are the internal genitalia and do not require cleaning

✓ violently oppress transwomen by pointing out how organ trafficking specifically targets extremely poor women in third-world countries, and how cosmetic uterus transplants are like the worst idea ever and would hurt both transwomen and desperate women from poor countries

✓ destroying feminism by disagreeing with a woman’s boyfriend on the internet

○ moving into a ramshackle cottage with my tabby cat familiar and practising anti-men voodoo magic while brewing abortifacient potions and growing my own delicious rutabaga in a garden surrounded by a fence of pikes topped with the heads of men who try to normalize pedophilia via The Discourse

tomorrow (Friday 20 Oct) I go in for surgery – it’s elective, by my choice and request and not because there’s anything bad going on. Just getting my uterus and ovaries and fallopian tubes taken out, since I’ve got no plans to ever use them, I don’t want to menstruate ever again, and I plan  to stay on testosterone basically forever.

(I wish I could, like, rehome them to a trans sister who wants organs to make estrogen… but since I’m 38, I doubt they’d be great reproductive specimens anyway??? but still if uterus and ovaries transplants were A Thing…)

I ought to be home tomorrow night, or the day after if I feel particularly lousy. I will accept things such as funny screenshots, cute animal pictures, and puns as well wishes.

Interesting speculation.

Feminists, get ready: pregnancy and abortion are about to be disrupted

Hold onto your ovaries folks, womb transplants are here. Ten UK women have been approved for the procedure, and babies born from donated uteruses could crawl among us as early as next year.

Leaving aside the ethical considerations of womb transplantation, our ability to gestate humans in novel locations is developing so quickly that it’s worth looking ahead to the next development: artificial wombs, or ectogenesis.

What would it mean for the uterus – and therefore, the biological necessity of women’s reproductive labour – if it were to become obsolete?

Unlike other contested biotechnologies like human cloning, the demand for surrogacy speaks to a natural community of probable supporters for ectogenesis.

Ya’ll have no idea how much racism and white privilege goes with the current day transactivism, especially the kind where teenagers on here get dragged into as soon as they post about feminism. people shouting ‘op is a terf’ literally advocate for women getting beaten up, send them death threats, hope they are infertile, etc. it becomes obvious really quickly just how much woman hate is propagated in the guise of ‘trans activism’. one of the previous posts I reblogged about uterus transplants literally proves how transactivism now only furthers the exploitation and subjugation of woc, and transwomen of colour dont negate this.
Woc have to deal with the most shit, and let’s not even get started about lesbian and bisexual woc who basically are discarded and disregarded in any conversation. Transactivism is now forcing women to accommodate men in their movement, in their safe spaces which effectively takes away the meaning of the feminism movement. Transactivism is now promoting gender-based stereotypes by reiterating centuries old notions of femininity that were always used to restrain women- not allowing them to vote, to control their own bodies, to exist as free individuals. In the past loud and outspoken women were thrown into mental asylums under the diagnosis ‘hysteria’ and left to die. When trans women come into our movement and try to tell us that they know what it is to be a woman better, when they try to steal our lived experience and say it means nothing, there is a problem. Think about these things instead of brushing them off.

anonymous asked:

im a trans girl and im 15 so this doesn't apply to me now but I heard a while ago they're working on womb and uterus transplants to allow trans women to get pregnant and give birth, do you know if that's true at all or have any info on it?

Ren says:

I was actually reading up about this the other day! A cis woman born with MRKH (an intersex condition that, among some other things, means the lack of, or an underdeveloped, uterus) successfully carried a baby for 32 weeks with a uterus transplant! (She developed pre-eclampsia, hence why the baby was born premature - there haven’t been any other successes so far, though not many people have tried it.)

So, it’s not possible yet, but yes, in the future, it is very likely that you could do this! You would be able to carry the child, and if you stored sperm, the baby could be genetically related to you. You would deliver through a C-section, and would be able to breastfeed (which is already something trans women can do, heyo!).

After a child, though, you would have to get a hysterectomy, because long-term immunosuppression (which transplant patients must undergo to lower the risk of their body rejecting the foreign organ) is no fun, lemme tell you.

:D Still! It’s great news! Scientific possibilities are endless!!!

anonymous asked:

since you're getting pregnant ppl discourse, i'll leave you one of my recent peak trans, when someone used lili elbe as an example of how trans women will one day get uterus transplants. she died from hers. the person acknowledged it, but said doctors getting it to fit was evidence enough it was fine and should have continued to be recommended if not for gatekeeping cis doctors. that disturbed me. these ppl don't even know how the uterus expands during pregnancy. they don't care about anyone.

I’ve asked this before and I’ll ask again: Where did Lili Elbe’s doctor get a uterus from a “young, healthy woman”???

How to Show Your Character is Trans

Showing your character’s trans status differs based on if you want to show the readers, other characters, or both and also on if your character is stealth or not.

1. Say it

Writing from a first person point of view allows you to just say it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

2. Hormones

Show your character taking hormones. They can come in the form of injections, pills, and gels. Show your character buying hormones. Talk about your character trying to get insurance to cover hormones. Have your character talk about needing to get blood tests to check hormone levels. Show the emotional stress when your character can’t afford their next dose of hormones.

3. Binders, Packers, Breast forms, and More

Show your character getting dressed. Mention dysphoria.

4. Insurance Problems

Insurance companies don’t like trans people. They rarely cover surgeries, even if a person has cysts on their ovaries and need surgery to prevent cancer. Yeah, a surgery that prevents cancer in a person likely to get it is considered cosmetic. They don’t cover hormones, syringes & needles, therapy (sometimes), or anything else.

5. Reproduction

Your adult trans character might be at a time in their life when they’re trying to have a kid. A conversation of reproduction options with another character or a doctor can show this. An interaction with any doctor in general can show your character is trans because doctors need to know your physical sex so that you get the best health care. Other medical issues can work because of that.

Some options for reproduction are using donors, surrogates, adoption, forms of artificial insemination, and retrieving eggs or sperm if your character still has their reproductive organs and if their gametes are still fertile. Getting sperm from a trans person is a lot easier and so is storing it. Getting eggs is a lot harder and a lot more expensive.

It’s rare that trans men decide to get pregnant and it’s usually a last resort. Most of them don’t want to be known and they have to be off hormones while pregnant which causes a shit ton of emotional problems along with the emotional stress of going through pregnancy. Putting this in your story would be a source of extreme emotional stress, drama, and mood swings.

6. Name Change

Getting your name changed doesn’t end in court. You have to change it on everything once you’ve got the papers. Some examples are school records, diplomas, online profiles, IDs of any kind, name tags, name plaques, social security, at your job, on your birth certificate, and on any other legal records.

Not having their name changed yet can show it too. Trans people get called by their legal name all the time in situations like school or work.

7. Gender Change

See #6.

8. Surgeries

There are dozens of surgeries that trans people go through, but only a few are specific to us. I know getting all the information on more complex surgeries for trans people can be troubling and overwhelming. Put your character through a simpler surgery like chin implants for a more masculine jaw or a tracheal shave for a more feminine neck. Or hair removal through laser surgery.

9. LGBT/gay/GSM/trans Places

Putting characters in these spaces can be an advantage if you need to introduce trans characters. This only counts for characters that aren’t stealth. Stealth trans people might be there for their sexual orientation. A support group for trans people could work well.

10. They’re Out

Making your trans character out about being trans is the easiest way for any point of view.

11. Coming Out

This is another easy way for any point of view.

12. Therapy

Your character can discuss more than being trans in therapy. It can be a setting that works throughout the story to reflect on other things while also outing your character to the readers.

13. Talk of Transitioning

Trans characters, even if they’re not the main character, who are pre-transition might tell other characters that they are going to transition. Stories that cover long periods of time can show this character’s transition at large.

14. Misgender

Trans characters who don’t pass might be misgendered by a stranger or a new friend. This might require saying that a character is trans to make it clear that they are trans.

15. Future Settings

Make up some futuristic ways of transitioning that might reveal your character.

This goes back to reproduction too. That thing about stem cells and bone marrow or whatever or about two eggs being able to create a viable human being isn’t in modern science yet. They might work in the future. And trans women might be able to have a uterus transplant in the future which allows them to carry a fetus to full term, but they can’t conceive naturally.

16. Clues

Parents of trans people who have transitioned will still hold onto pictures of their kids prior to transitioning. Name change forms will probably be in their home if they’re going through that. Hormones might be somewhere too.

It’s more difficult to show a character is trans through clues like these, but you can use it as heavy subtext or in addition to methods 1-15.

anonymous asked:

So are they forgetting the first person to have SRS fucking died because of an attempted uterus transplant

If you tell them this they’ll still attempt the surgery anyways lmao have you ever seen a necrotic neobussy? The Freudian life drive (desire for sex) in trannies is often sought via the death drive (desire to cease existing as you are)

kelpieradfem  asked:

even if a man got a uterus put in him, it wouldn't actually work. even men who take estrogen wouldn't have the same hormonal cycles as a women. they wouldn't get periods. they wouldn't be able to get pregnant. theres no good reason for a transwoman to get it rather than an actual woman who might possibly be able to use it.

The whole point of a uterus transplant is for transwomen to be fertile.
