Every year the Russian Team does a bar crawl. It’s a tradition now. They all have T-shirts that have Yakov’s face on the front (Above the word Фелстман bolded and underlined) and, on the back, a skater’s name in large bolded font below an alphabetized list of every skater Yakov’s ever had in much smaller text. They get new T-shirts every time someone new is added to the roster, so usually every year or two.
They change the T-shirts to include Yuuri, and also to change Viktor’s name to his married name. Yuuri has no idea that this is even a thing until he walks into the rink one morning to see Yuri skating around with a pile of bright purple T-shirts in his arms.
“Yo, Katsudon,” Yuri mutters when he gets to him, flipping through shirts distractedly. He’s almost a normal person this early in the morning, before the vitriol has settled into his bones for the day. “So your stupid husband didn’t tell us what size you are, but you wear his clothes all the time anyway and since you have the same last name it was just less complicated to order two of the same size. Here.” He drops them so quickly that Yuuri almost overbalances to catch them. He’s halfway across the rink by the time Yuuri straightens back up, making his way towards one of the Juniors who Yuuri thinks might be named Katya.
“Ooh, the shirts came in,” Viktor says happily when he catches up. He takes one and holds it up to the light. The picture of Yakov on the front is…not exactly flattering. “Wow! They look even better than last year! Purple is a much better color than green.”
“What am I looking at?” Yuuri demands, staring dumbfounded at his own T-shirt.
“Yakov, of course,” Viktor says happily. He flips the shirt around. Yuuri startles at the giant, bold
Кацуки-Никифоров on the back. Viktor scans the smaller text (Which is, weirdly enough, in the shape of a skating boot) and says, “Ah, here you are.” Yuuri leans over.
“Yeah, that’s…definitely my name,” Yuuri says, brows furrowing. Юрий Кацуки-Никифоров. It is, of course, right next to Виктор Кацуки-Никифоров. He’s familiar enough with the other skaters’ names to realize that the small text is Yakov’s roster. “Um, why though?”
“I’m not sure!” Viktor says happily. “I came here after it started! I’ll go put these in our lockers. Start warming up please, Kitten!”
Viktor skates away. Yakov’s face seems to wink at him, over and over again, from where Viktor is clutching the shirts by his hip.
“After WHAT started?” Yuuri demands to the room at large. Nobody answers him.
Viktor eventually does explain what they are for, the afternoon before the bar crawl itself. He also shows Yuuri the dozen past bar crawl shirts he owns. The passage of time is indicated by the growing shirt sizes and Yakov’s hairline. Yakov had almost a full head of hair when Viktor first joined the roster.
“Does Yakov know about this?” Yuuri mutters, staring at the shirts in awe.
“Oh, I’m sure he does,” Viktor says. “Lilia makes the shirt orders for us. It’s the only reason she’s not on the shirt too, honestly.”
Every single day, Yuuri is more and more amazed that Yakov Feltsman has not taken to the Siberian wilderness to live in seclusion and blessed silence.
Victor loves being little spoon and when he wakes up with Yuuri’s arms around him he just nuzzles them or traces over the skin until their alarm goes off.
Yuuri wakes up FAST but he still hates it. Victor is more of a morning person but he still needs a coffee before he can actually think beyond “Hold fiance. Take shower. Call fiance cute.”
Yuuri drinks his coffee black because college hurts us all. Victor is shocked and disgusted and dumps 60 cookie and cream creamers into his coffee before he deems it semi-responsible to drink.
When they grab the wrong coffee cup on accident it’s turmoil.
Y: “You need to shave.” V: “I don’t wanna shave.” Y: “And I don’t want beard burn. Go shave.” then 5 mins later he’s kissing Victor’s cheek.
Wearing each other’s clothes is just routine to them. They’re about the same size. (Most of Yuuri’s clothes tend to be looser anyway due to his weight changes through the year) so their closet is just a mix of clothes about a month after Yuuri moves in. Especially their work out stuff.
Wearing each other’s jackets though will always be their favorite and when Yuuri has bad days he’ll just wear Victor’s hoodies and sleep on the couch with Makkachin.
Victor does the same thing only in Yuuri’s sweats.
They both love touching each other. Like, Yuuri will be talking and Victor would touch his lower back. They’ll hook pinkies or hands without thinking while walking. Their hands will overlap on the boards as they talk to other skaters. Leaning on each for balance while stretching, messing with their skates, or exhausted by practice.
They just love touching each other.
Yuuri loves the all natural stuff the Inn uses and used to get some in his care packages from home in college, and when he moves to Saint Petersburg Victor stocks their bathroom up with it. Most of it are oils to put in the bath or home made soaps. Victor’s skin is just #Thankful.
Yuuri rambling pet names while kissing Victor because it destroys Victor. He can dish it out but he can’t handle it.
The same when Yuuri cuddles him and wraps his arms around him.
I love you. You’re wonderful and fabulous and energized about seeing a cool project on the inter-webs and have finally said “yes! I think I could do that! This is the one that will get me into knitting/crochet” With all the excitement and joy in the world you go to the craft store, grab the coolest looking yarn (in the best color, duh) and the cheapest needles/hook you can find (If if needles are too intimidating, you opt for the knitting loom. It comes in a 3 pack! score!). You follow the instructions as best you can with dreams of your project turning out exactly like the professionally taken photograph. Oh my naive, beautiful newbie yarn bender, you are on a craft high. Head so far in the clouds that you don’t realize what has happened until it’s done. We’ve all been here at some point, no matter how skilled a person is.
My lovelies. Please learn from the mistakes that have already happened. Take the time to learn about gauge and value the materials needed. I am most definitely NOT saying buy the most expensive stuff. I am saying that skien of yarn that is one dollar more will likely make you enjoy the finished product bounties more than the value of one dollar.
Take the top picture. This was most definitely made on a knitting loom. Im personally not a huge advocate of these. They’re great for learning how knitting works. Not great for endless feats of creativity. You’re limited by the size of the loom which limits you to the size of the yarn as well as the size of the object you make. For something that will not ladder (the long horizontal bits between the “V” stitches) you need yarn thick enough to touch the stitch next to it when wrapped around the loom. In the case of the photo, yarn far too thin was used.
The next picture looks like it could be arm knitting. Which was a fad I loved. Can we bring this back instead of those pony tail hats? The larger the needle, in this case your arm, the larger yarn you need. The original appears to have multiple yarns being used. Perhaps our newbie knitter didn’t realize that’s an option? Lesson here: Larger needles, larger yarn. Smaller needles, smaller yarn.
The last picture. This crocheted hippo went through the stretcher! oh no! This is a case of right yarn, wrong size hook. When your needle/hook is larger than your yarn and you put it under tension (in this case, stuffing it) the created fabric will stretch (more-so demonstrated in the first picture). Amigurumi is also hard as shit. The people who do it very well are incredible talented. We should all bow before their prowess. Please don’t try an amigurumi (small figurine knitting/crochet) as your first or even 5th project!
General rule of thumb: if you don’t want holes in your work look for yarn and needle/hook approx same size in diameter.
Alas, you have returned for the craft store. Heading the advice you’ve gotten complimentary yarn and needle/hook. TIME TO START THE CRAFT JUICE!
“but whyyyy?” you whine
Because we must first test the yarn.
“But tests are boooooring” says the yarn.
I agree, talking yarn. Tests are boring and terrible and holy crap tell you if you’re doing something right or wrong. This is useful information to know before creating something beautiful with your HANDS.
Also my dear newbie yarn bender, practice makes a better yarn bender. Resist the urge to pump out something fast. Pinterst lied to you. It’s not going to take 1 hour. It will take at least 3 hours and two trips to the craft store. Accept this now. Knitting/crochet is slow ASF. Accept this now. Or find a different hobby.
So loop on some stitches and knit or crochet your joyous heart out. Then measure it once you get around 5 inches. Count the stitches horizontally and vertically. Then refer to the chart above and make sure everything agrees. Got 12 stitches per 4 inches and using DK (3) yarn? Time to change needles sizes or get your gorgeous self some bulky yarn. Or get yourself some bulky yarn anyhow. Treat yo’self.
i love you newbie yarn benders! Go forth and create and learn
The Goiânia accident was a radioactive contamination accident that occurred on September 13, 1987, at Goiânia, in the Brazilian state of Goiás, after an old radiotherapy source was stolen from an abandoned hospital site in the city. It was subsequently handled by many people, resulting in four deaths. About 112,000 people were examined for radioactive contamination and 249 were found to have significant levels of radioactive material in or on their bodies.
In the cleanup operation, topsoil had to be removed from several sites, and several houses were demolished. All the objects from within those houses were removed and examined. Time magazine has identified the accident as one of the world’s “worst nuclear disasters” andthe International Atomic Energy Agency called it “one of the world’s worst radiological incidents”.
What follows in a incredible series of events motivated purely out of ignorance, childish wonder and greed, and the dire consequences this brought to the people involved and the city as a whole:
The accident began when two thieves, Roberto dos Santos Alves and Wagner Mota Pereira, broke into the abandoned and partially demolished Instituto Goiano de Radioterapia (IGR), where they came across a caesium-137-based teletherapy unit.
They partially disassembled the unit, and placed the source assembly – which they thought might have some scrap value – in a wheelbarrow, taking it to Alves’s home, and once there, they began dismantling the equipment. That same evening, they both began to vomit. Nevertheless, they continued in their efforts. The following day, Pereira began to experience diarrhea and dizziness and his left hand began to swell. He soon developed a burn on this hand in the same size and shape as the aperture – he eventually had partial amputation of several fingers.
On September 15, Pereira visited a local clinic where his symptoms were diagnosed as the result of something he had eaten, and he was told to return home and rest. Alves, however, continued with his efforts to dismantle the equipment. In the course of this effort, he eventually freed the caesium capsule from its protective rotating head. His prolonged exposure to the radioactive material led to his right forearm becoming ulcerated, requiring amputation.
On September 16, Alves succeeded in puncturing the capsule’s aperture window with a screwdriver, allowing him to see a deep blue light coming from the tiny opening he had created. He inserted the screwdriver and successfully scooped out some of the glowing substance. Thinking it was perhaps a type of gunpowder, he tried to light it, but the powder would not ignite.
On September 18, Alves sold the items to a nearby scrapyard. That night, Devair Alves Ferreira, the owner of the scrapyard, noticed the blue glow from the punctured capsule. Thinking the capsule’s contents were valuable or even supernatural, he immediately brought it into his house. Over the next three days, he invited friends and family to view the strange glowing substance.
On September 21 at the scrapyard, one of Ferreira’s friends succeeded in freeing several rice-sized grains of the glowing material from the capsule using a screwdriver; Alves Ferreira began to share some of them with various friends and family members. That same day, his wife, 37-year-old Gabriela Maria Ferreira, began to fall ill. On September 25, 1987, Devair Alves Ferreira sold the scrap metal to a second scrapyard.
The day before the sale to the second scrapyard, on September 24, Ivo, Devair’s brother, successfully scraped some additional dust out of the source and took it to his house a short distance away. There he spread some of it on the cement floor. His six-year-old daughter, Leide das Neves Ferreira, later ate a sandwich while sitting on this floor. She was also fascinated by the blue glow of the powder, applying it to her body and showing it off to her mother. Dust from the powder fell on the sandwich she was consuming; she eventually absorbed 1.0 GBq, total dose 6.0 Gy, more than a fatal dose even with treatment.
Gabriela Maria Ferreira had been the first to notice that many people around her had become severely ill at the same time.
On September 28, 1987 — 15 days after the item was found — she reclaimed the materials from the rival scrapyard and transported them to a hospital. Because the remains of the source were kept in a plastic bag, the level of contamination at the hospital was low.
In the morning of September 29, 1987 a visiting medical physicist used a scintillation counter to confirm the presence of radioactivity and persuaded the authorities to take immediate action. The city, state, and national governments were all aware of the incident by the end of the day.
News of the radiation incident was broadcast on local, national, and international media. Within days, nearly 130,000 people swarmed local hospitals concerned that they might have been exposed. Of those, 250 were indeed found to be contaminated— some with radioactive residue still on their skin— through the use of Geiger counters. Eventually, 20 people showed signs of radiation sickness and required treatment.
Ages in years are given, with dosages listed in grays (Gy).
Leide das Neves Ferreira, age 6 (6.0 Gy), was the daughter of Ivo Ferreira. When an international team arrived to treat her, she was discovered confined to an isolated room in the hospital because the hospital staff were afraid to go near her. She gradually experienced swelling in the upper body, hair loss, kidney and lung damage, and internal bleeding. She died on October 23, 1987, of “septicemia and generalized infection” at the Marcilio Dias Navy Hospital, in Rio de Janeiro. She was buried in a common cemetery in Goiânia, in a special fiberglass coffin lined with lead to prevent the spread of radiation. Despite these measures, news of her impending burial caused a riot of more than 2,000 people in the cemetery on the day of her burial, all fearing that her corpse would poison the surrounding land. Rioters tried to prevent her burial by using stones and bricks to block the cemetery roadway. She was buried despite this interference.
Gabriela Maria Ferreira, aged 37 (5.7 Gy), wife of junkyard owner Devair Ferreira, became sick about three days after coming into contact with the substance. Her condition worsened, and she developed internal bleeding, especially in the limbs, eyes, and digestive tract, and suffered from hair loss. She died October 23, 1987, about a month after exposure.
Israel Baptista dos Santos, aged 22 (4.5 Gy), was an employee of Devair Ferreira who worked on the radioactive source primarily to extract the lead. He developed serious respiratory and lymphatic complications, was eventually admitted to hospital, and died six days later on October 27, 1987.
Admilson Alves de Souza, aged 18 (5.3 Gy), was also an employee of Devair Ferreira who worked on the radioactive source. He developed lung damage, internal bleeding, and heart damage, and died October 18, 1987.
Devair Ferreira himself survived despite receiving 7 Gy of radiation. He died in 1994 of cirrhosis aggravated by depression and binge drinking.
White Diamond: Not a fusion, not poofed, not shattered, and definitely real - An Analysis
Let’s begin at the beginning: The Era-2 Diamond Authority Symbol:
It shows the symbols of Blue, Yellow, and White, all three of them triangles of equal size and distance. Turn the triangle on any three sides and it looks the same, but with a different Diamond on top.
Now let’s see the Era 1 logo:
Pretty much the same deal as before. Four Diamonds, equal size, distance, etc. What this tell us is that whoever White Diamond is, she definitely existed both before AND after the war, which puts a big fat strike in the boxes of “fusion,” “poofed,” and “shattered,” since why keep someone who isn’t around anymore in the logo if they did the same with Pink?
Now let’s take a look at our next glimpse of White, the murals:
First off, if we count the planets around each Diamond (presumably their colonies as of Era 1), we get:
- 14 White, plus the orb in her hands
- 7 Yellow (across TWO star systems)
- 8 Blue
- 1 Pink
Even considering the orb to be Homeworld, White comes up either short by one, or, if we consider some of the out-of-place moons to be dwarf planets, overshooting the mark. And speaking of moons, the most generous estimates tell us that:
- 3 of White’s have three moons, 4 have two moons, 3 have one, and the rest have none.
- 1 of Yellow’s has three, 1 has two, only two have 1, and the rest have none.
- NONE of Blue’s have moons.
- And Pink’s 1 planet, the Earth, has only one.
So, add that to the “not a fusion” category.
Next, let’s take a good, LONG look at White’s mural in particular:
SHE HAS A BLOODY GEM ON HER FOREHEAD.
Now, just to add the final blow to the fusion theory, let’s remember that literally (and I AM using that word correctly) every fusion on the show has maintained the same gem placement as their components, and none of the gems in said fusions have been hidden in any way. And let’s also remember that Blue and Yellow have a very visible gem on their chests, and Pink has hers on her navel. SO… If White’s a fusion, then where are those gems that are quite clearly NOT visible where they should be?
Conclusion: WHITE DIAMOND IS NOT A FUSION.
To address the poofing theory, let’s look at the prime candidate for where her gem has been alleged to have been seen, namely, the Pyramid Gem:
From afar, it looks perfect. Same shape and color for one thing, which is more than can be said for the old Lighthouse Gem = Blue Diamond theory. HOWEVER, here’s the size in comparison to Steven:
Compare that with the size of Blue’s in comparison to Greg:
Compensating for distance, IT’S ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AS HE IS. And it’s definitely not an outlier, since Yellow’s is about the same size:
Unless White is TINY, there’s no way that the Gem from the Pyramid Temple is the same as the one we see on White’s forehead in her mural.
Conclusion: WHITE DIAMOND IS NOT THE PYRAMID GEM.
(And while we’re here, let’s also put to rest that THIS (the one circled):
is NOT Pink Diamond, since the shape is hexagonal, not rhomboid as it is in her mural and like the other Diamonds.)
Which brings us to our last piece of evidence, the giant white thing on Homeworld that resembles White’s silhouette:
All we know so far is that, according to the Make a Wish kid who met Rebecca Sugar, it’s “not a statue,” which gives us the three major possibilities:
- It’s a ship (contributing to the Diamond Ship = Megazord theory)
- It’s a building, like Diamond HQ or something
- It’s White Diamond herself (which makes her HUGE, which would be odd considering how her mural and symbols are all the same size as the other Diamonds)
I can’t prove or disprove any of these as this point, but what I was able to prove is that she DOES, in fact, exist, and IS separate from the other Diamonds. That leaves only one more question:
Where the heck was she during The Trial?
Well, this ties into the previous theories rather well. Many people cite Blue and Yellow’s love for Pink and closeness between each other as reasons for why, if she did exist, White would have most certainly shown up, arguing that the Diamonds feel some sort of sisterly bond between each other. Also, people have found it odd that neither Diamond at the trial mentions her absence, not even so much as a disappointed look at the White section of the courtroom. And that is a valid question: Why wasn’t White at the trial of Rose Quartz, shatterer of her fellow Diamond?
“She doesn’t exist” shouldn’t be the first answer to come to your mind.
So far, we know that Blue and Pink were “close,” and that Yellow and Blue both “loved her,” AND that Yellow and Blue appear to have some semblance of a close relationship. We also know that Blue and Yellow both have a significant interest in the Earth and what happens to it and Rose Quartz.
What we do not know is whether or not White was as close to Pink Diamond as Blue and Yellow were. Maybe she wasn’t able to see her often, maybe she could never develop a close relationship with her, maybe she was just so busy running her 14 planets (the most out of all the Diamonds) that when Pink died, she never really knew her that well, and wasn’t hit as hard by her shattering and therefore doesn’t hold as much disdain for the Earth as the others do. Or maybe White shattered her and (correctly) assumed that going to the trial would lead to her being implicated like what happened to Yellow.
Why didn’t Blue and Yellow remark upon her absence? Well they arrived together from who-knows-where, so if they met up before entering the courtroom, and if they knew White wouldn’t be coming, they would have talked about it there.
In the end, White Diamond is most certainly NOT a fusion, she is most likely not shattered, and she is probably not poofed. She is definitely not the Pyramid Gem, and had every reason not to show up to the trial or even get involved in the story thus far.
She exists, is in power, and is a separate entity from the other Diamonds.
Project: Female Guardsman Cosplay (Part 6 - Making the Laspistol)
Neither of us have ever built prop weapons before so we decided to start with a laspistol. We might built a full size lasgun in the future. As with the rest of the cosplay, we started with some research;
Laspistols are built on pretty much every planet in the Imperium with a manufactorium and although the rough design is similar the specific shape can vary (even within the same planet).
This gave us a lot of freedom to create our pistol as it didn’t have to be a perfect copy as long as it captured the core elements of a laspistol. That being said our main inspiration was the image from the core rulebook;
The design is very boxy and simple (like most Imperial design) and the only challenging shape was the trigger and grip. For this we used a broken Nerf gun from a charity shop.
To decide the size I created a basic line drawing of the weapon and scaled it so the grip matched the size of the Nerf gun.
The only piece we needed from the Nerf gun was the trigger and grip. The barrel was too thick so we removed the chamber and then used a saw to cut the gun down to just the grip and trigger.
Using foam board (sometimes called foamcore) we carefully designed a housing for what was left of the Nerf gun and began to box it up into a laspistol shape.
We continued to add elements using PVC piping for the muzzle and scope. For the cylindrical element at the rear of the pistol we use a PVC joining piece. Holes were cut into the foam core to slide the muzzle into. PVC is tough to glue so any extra strength we could add to the join was a bonus.
The edges of the foam board left exposed foam which doesn’t take paint. To fix this we carefully measured and cut out a thin card casing to cover all the foam board parts of the gun. This also added strength.
The final assembly was undercoated with black spray paint and then dry-brushed with a metallic acrylic. The casing has been base coated.
We may come back for a better paint-job, but this was sort of a practice weapon so we may just go straight to a lasgun and leave this pistol as a prototype.
Next time we will be painting the armour. Almost finished!! See you soon.
Does Supernatural Have a Problem with Representation and Diversity: A Mathematical Study
At the end of season 12, another fan favorite minority character, Eileen, was killed. This has come in a long line of favorite SPN characters who were people of color, women, lgbt+, and/or disabled being killed seemingly before their time. This, like other instances with such characters like Kevin and Charlie, sparked outrage from many fans. Some called the move sexist and ableist. Many said it was not inherently bad that Eileen died, but the way it was done was disgraceful and unworthy of such a beloved character. Other fans fought back against these claims, citing that everyone dies in supernatural and that no one should be immune. Besides, others said, with more representation, shouldn’t that mean more death?
But is there actually more representation? And is the death count equal? Are we being persuaded by biases and personal agendas?
After the season 12 finale, I’ve set out to see if there is a quantifiable difference in representation, huge differences that can be backed up by numbers and not just perception. Much of this is going to cover gender and race, as those are the easiest diversity angles to notice, but I will touch upon other areas. This information was not compiled to confirm any set of biases, but instead answer these questions at the heart of the debate and anger. Some of the information complied is quite obvious, but having set numbers is vital in these debates.
All the preparations for my Sunday visit to Anime North are done!
Like I mentioned on a previous post [x], I’ll be giving out free Yuri On Ice body positivity stickers during my visit!
Find Me To Get: a free sticker!! • one out of the eight designs (the size is about 4 cm by 6cm) :) • You will have a blind pick! I’ll let you pick from a variety of stickers without knowing the design. • As I mentioned before, you don’t even have to hold conversation with me :)
How To Find Me: • I’ll be going around the convention for the whole day (especially the international plaza in the afternoon). • I’ll be very low-key in a crop top Yuuri attire (with a simple design of his FS costume) because I fell in love with @zephyrine-gale‘s whole crop top Yuuri movement. • I’ll use the exact same backpack with my ‘ask me for a YOI sticker’ pin
I hope this is a good enough gift for the fandom during Mental Health Month. I just want to give you all a thumbs up for all the body positivity content with all of Yuuri’s different body shapes.
hello! Catprint just updated thier website and im trying to do individual sizes and different finishes for my prints but cant seem to figure it out? Has anyone made an updated catprint tutorial on orders?
2. On the left is the list of files you’ve uploaded recently, as well as the option to upload more. On the right is all of the specifications for your job, including size, paper type, finishing, etc.
You cannot have different sizes or paper types per job, but you can have multiple jobs per order! This has always been the case. So let’s take care of 4x6 postcards first.
3. You can upload multiple files at a time now thank god.
While stuff is uploading, you can tab over to paper and choose your preference, as well as how many copies of this job you want. So I’m getting 20 copies of each postcard design I attach to this job, on glossy light cardstock.
I almost never do finishing or envelopes, but if you do, go ahead and set those settings too. Then review everything in Summary. My files are still uploading, so there still isn’t anything attached to the job.
4. Once your files have uploaded, attach them to the job.
Once you attach the files, you can choose your settings for front/back imaging and bleed.
To upload more files or attach a file again, just navigate back to your list of files from the left:
By the way, don’t forget to rotate any images that aren’t oriented the same way as the others, like if you have mostly vertical designs, but there’s this one horizontal one (below). I prefer rotating the images before I upload them instead of using the rotation tools here, but I dunno that it makes much of a difference.
5. Once you’ve got all your files attached, you can go to the summary again, then add the job to your cart:
6. Now you’ve got your glossy postcards ready to go! If you need to also get stuff in a different size or paper or finish, you need to add another job:
7. If you’re wanting to add a similar job to the one you just did – say, you want the same files but on a different type of paper? You can just duplicate the job and change the paper type (and other things, like quantity).
You can also just copy the specs of the job – say, you want the same paper, but just want to change the size and all the files, etc.
That’s it, I think! It takes a little getting used to, but multi-file upload makes this whole revamp worth it for me, lol. Good luck!
Do you have any advice for people looking to start a webcomic? This can be anything from schedule to content
Okay - I’m not an artist of any sort, so I can’t give you any specific tips on the technical side of webcomic production. I am, however, a professional project manager, so I can give you a few observations on where I typically see projects go off the rails.
First: don’t start with a webcomic.
And by this I mean a long form webcomic - i.e., the kind with chapters and arcs and a continuing narrative from page to page. Writing a long form sequential art piece is at least as much work as writing a good-size novel, and very few writers bang out a thousand-page tome as their very first publication. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it fails far more often than it succeeds; you’re almost guaranteed to burn out or plot yourself into a corner if you try to jump directly into long form narrative works.
Instead, dial it way back: start with single page one-shots. No shared setting or continuity. You can use the same set of OCs in each one if you like, but there’s a risk of allowing continuity to creep in around the edges there. Before you try to tell a story in a thousand pages, ask yourself: can I tell a story in six panels?
In three panels?
In one panel?
Once you’ve got a handle on that, to the point that you can reliably crank out at a couple of decent one-shot pages per week, only then should you allow yourself to think longer-term. Begin with a script for a three-page story, and give yourself a week to complete it. Did that work out? Great - now script a six-page story and give yourself two weeks to complete it. Work your way up.
It’s going to vary from artist to artist, of course, but a good general guideline is that if you can script and produce a self-contained 10-12 page story over the course of a month without getting stuck or burning out, then you’re ready to try something more ambitious. This is basically the equivalent of making sure you can handle a short story before you go and try to write a novel.
Hey guys - Phoenix needs to go to the vet and we’re beyond tight right now. A lot has broken lately that’s left our wallets empty. Meanwhile, Phoenix has developed… something. I’m pretty certain it’s an egg that hasn’t dropped yet. Her behavior has changed and her wings haven’t been sitting right, I need to get her seen before anything gets worse. ( I have another pet that’s also developed an issue at the same time 😢 )
So! I’m opening all forms of commissions.
Pet portrait: 1 pet, simple background (wash etc), item, and free print up to 10x16 (free US shipping) - $80
Detailed ~3" custom pet sculpture with base - $50 (simple, undetailed version available for cheaper)
Custom JUMBO sticker: $20 for indoor glossy, $40 for weatherproof (comes with 4 copies in your choice of 3, 4, and 5" sizes)
beauty can be a weapon or a curse. It is up to you to decide how to use it. If you use it to your advantage, you can destroy cities, create wars, cause chaos. Look what happened because of Helen of Troy. But beauty will never make someone love you. Beauty only sparks desire, never love.
music is important. It can heal and energize you. Take time out of your day to turn your favourite music on or try something new. Pick up an instrument, you may want to try to make your own music. Sit in the sun, with the light on your face, and relax.
you will always be able to fight. You will always have victories, whatever the size. They may be as small as getting out of bed in the morning when depression pressures you to stay in. We all have the strength to continue on and fight the battles set before us.
do not be afraid of the night. The moon and the stars are always with you, even if you cannot see them. Remember the things that go bump in the night are only animals, an owl hunting or a raccoon scavenging. Animals are living things, with the same fears as humans, and they are to be respected.
wisdom is not always found in books and can be scored by tests. You are not stupid. You know more about something than your teachers and professors, whether it be your favourite sport or video game. Though you may feel like what you are learning may be useless now, it may be useful eventually. Knowledge is power in whatever form. Seize what you can and never give it back.
enjoy nature. Go for walks in the woods during a hot afternoon to be cooled by the shade the trees will give you. Dig your toes into the sand on a beach and watch the sunset. Eat organic, delicious fruit and let the juices drip down your chin like you are a child again. Respect the earth and it will respect you.
sometimes you have to let go. Take a step back from the stresses of life and let yourself have fun. Go with your friends to that new club that opened downtown, dance the entire night until you have blisters on your feet, and drink as much as you want, even if that means your friends have to drag you home in a cab. Being able to forget, if only for a short time, is therapy in itself.
do not be afraid of death. It comes to us all. Death is not cold. It is peace and resolution. It is much needed rest after a long day of labor. It is coming home after a lifetime of struggles. Accept it but do not forget to cherish life while you have it.
being able to work with your hands is a gift. It might be fixing cars or it could be creating beautiful art, it does not matter. If you like your gift, pursue it at all costs and never let other people try to hold you back from it. You are not crippled, you are not helpless, and they do not have that kind of power over you.
family is something that does not last forever. Love them if they are good to you, but even family can be toxic. No one deserves to have toxic people in their life even if they are blood. Never forget that you can create a family of your own.
travel the world. See as much as you can, try exotic foods, give gifts to people with no regards to the cost, learn jokes in foreign languages, play tricks on your friends, and experience everything life has to offer. It is vital to be knowledgeable about the world around you, and even more to be able to experience it firsthand.
find your home and place in the world. A home could be found with a person, or your family, or your childhood house, or somewhere on the opposite side of the globe. When the traveling is over and you are weary, you will want a familiar bed to crawl into and a space to call your own. You will know it in your bones when you have found your true home. Keep your hearth burning and take in those in need.
the ocean is not something to be trifled with. It is fierce storms and unknown creatures hiding in its darkest depths, but it is also a glittering mirror and lapping waves against a sandy shore. The beauty and ferocity of the ocean goes unparalleled throughout the world. Keep both of those in mind, or it may swallow you whole.
having power over others is a serious responsiblity. It is not everything, either. Gaining power should not be a goal or an obsession. The power of the heavens could back you but it does not make people truly loyal or trustworthy. They can slip a dagger between your ribs when you turn your back. If you do possess some power, respect and honor your subjects and treat them as equals. After all, you are human too.
TFP, Team Prime getting their first awesome hug, in their holoform, from reader~ I have a mighty need for hugs, and I want them to feel the awesomeness of hugs ♡
Same here!!! I love holomatter hugs!!! <3 <3 <3
Optimus Prime: To be completely honest, he doesn’t
really get the appeal of hugs, but he does know how important they are to
humans. He considers it an honor that
you put your trust in him so completely and consider him to be one of your
closest friends. It probably won’t do a
thing for him, he decides, but if it will make you happy he’s more than willing
to let you give him a hug. The minute
you wrap your arms around him though, he goes stiff. You look up in confusion to see him standing
stock still and gazing down at you wide-eyed, with a faint, red flush creeping
over his face. “Is anything wrong?” you
ask with a trace of worry. His voice is uncharacteristically
tight as he manages a strangled “no…”
Ratchet: It’s best if you give him a spontaneous,
spur of the moment hug in his holomatter form, as he probably wouldn’t break
out his avatar just for a hug. He’s surprised
and more than a little flustered when you wrap your arms around him, but he
doesn’t do anything besides let out a muffled, half-hearted grumble under his
breath. He’s not really one for openly
showing affection, but he has to admit that it’s… rather nice. Just don’t ever do that when he’s working. He gradually warms up to the idea as time
passes, however. On those particularly
rare occasions when he’s in a good mood, he’ll actually seek you out to spin
you around in a hug while laughing warmly.
(If he’s feeling extra bold, he’ll even sneak in a kiss while he does
it. It makes him chuckle to see you blush.)
Bumblebee: He’s over the moon if you mention that
you’d like to give him a hug in his holomatter form! In fact, he’s been going over in his head for
weeks the best way to broach the idea himself.
He’s a bit nervous at first, truth be told, rocking on his heels and fidgeting
with his hands, but that all falls away the instant you put your arms around
him. It’s like he hears choirs of angels
singing in his head. He blushes and
buries his head into your shoulder with repressed chuckles. He can’t get enough of how good you
smell. He’s never been able to pick up
on it before, but it’s absolutely intoxicating.
He’s definitely going to try and make this a regular thing.
Arcee: She teases you lightly about it when you
bring up the idea, but she also knows just how affectionate you are (it’s one
of her favorite things about you.) She’s
a bit caught off guard by the embrace at first, but slowly relaxes into it with
a soft smile. There are only about a
handful of people in the entire galaxy that can get her to smile like that. Arcee decides that these holomatter hugs, as
you call them, aren’t half bad. She
likes that she’s able to let her guard down around you (and the fact that
you’re so soft and pretty doesn’t hurt either.)
Bulkhead: He’s thrilled when you suggest the
idea. He’s a very affectionate by
nature, and this way he doesn’t have to worry about accidentally crushing you
(even if he’s still quite a bit larger than you in holomatter form.) He picks you up and swingings you around
while laughing boisterously. This is the
best he’s felt in weeks! And, wow! You’re so soft! He had no idea skin on skin contact could
feel this good. From then on, he’ll always
try to initiate affection with you in his holomatter avatar – anything from a
playful head rub to a gentle hand on your shoulder (though his favorites will
always be big, bear hugs.)
Wheeljack: He’s no stranger to your affections, but he
doesn’t really see the point of bringing his holomatter avatar into the
mix. (If he’s honest with himself, he
likes the fact that he’s big enough to scoop you up in his hands when you want
a hug.) He’s not gonna say no to you
however, so if you really want to hug him in his holomatter form, he’ll let you
hug him. Before you do however, he takes
a moment to appreciate you from this new angle.
(He always knew you were pretty, but he’s never really gotten a good
look at your feature before. Maybe this
holomatter thing isn’t half bad.) His
form fits against yours like it was made for this. He likes to wrap his arms around you and pull
you tightly against his chest while he places soft kisses on top of your head.
Smokescreen: He’s a bit skeptical of the idea at
first. He’s never actually used a
holomatter avatar before. He’s used to
you hugging him all the time in robot mode, but the idea of being relatively
the same size as you weirds him out a bit.
(Not that he thinks you’re weird or anything! He thinks you’re a perfectly acceptable size
for your species! That is, um…) After a bit of convincing, he somewhat
grudgingly pulls out his holomatter form.
He’s already a bit embarrassed, but if you tell him how handsome he
looks like this, he’ll practically die on the spot. All of his doubts and worries melt away
however, the minute you hold him. You
can feel something pulsing rapidly inside his chest as his skin begins to heat
up far more than normal. (Oh, no! They’re even cuter up close!) If you put your head on his shoulder (or
worse, kiss him) his entire form dissipates in a flash of static and he has to
practically flee the base in order to cool down.
Ultra Magnus: A… “hug”?
He doesn’t understand. What is a
hug? You smile playfully as you tell him
that you can only show him if he uses his avatar. He raises an optic ridge. Normally he doesn’t allow anyone to give him
orders, except for Optimus, but you seem so earnest and sincere (plus, he’d
never say so out loud, but you happen to be his favorite out of all the
humans.) He looks at you expectantly
once he pulls out his avatar, waiting for you to show him this strange Earth
custom called a “hug”. You grin as you
place both your arms around him and nuzzle your face in his chest. Ultra Magnus freezes and blushes up to his
ears. T-this is highly irregular! He’s thrown people in the brig for less. But then again, you aren’t exactly under his
jurisdiction… plus you aren’t familiar with Cybertronian customs… and you are
kind of cute… Maybe he can let it go, just
