use of information technology

High-speed quantum memory for photons

Physicists from the University of Basel have developed a memory that can store photons. These quantum particles travel at the speed of light and are thus suitable for high-speed data transfer. The researchers were able to store them in an atomic vapor and read them out again later without altering their quantum mechanical properties too much. This memory technology is simple and fast and it could find application in a future quantum Internet. The journal Physical Review Letters has published the results.

Even today, fast data transfer in telecommunication networks employs short light pulses. Ultra broadband technology uses optical fiber links through which information can be transferred at the speed of light. At the receiver’s end, the transmitted information has to be stored quickly and without errors so that it can be processed further electronically on computers. To avoid transmission errors, each bit of information is encoded in relatively strong light pulses that each contain at least several hundreds of photons.

For several years, researchers all over the world have been working on operating such networks with single photons. Encoding one bit per photon is not only very efficient, but it also allows for a radically new form of information processing based on the laws of quantum physics. These laws allow a single photon to encode not only the states 0 or 1 of a classic bit, but also to encode a superposition of both states at the same time. Such quantum bits are the basis for quantum information processing that could make unconditionally secure communication and super fast quantum computers possible in the future. The ability to store and retrieve single photons from a quantum memory is a key element for these technologies, which is intensively investigated.

Simple and fast

A team of physicists led by the professors Philipp Treutlein and Richard Warburton from the University of Basel has now developed a particularly simple and fast quantum memory that stores photons in a gas of rubidium atoms. A laser controls the storage and retrieval processes. The technology used does not require cooling devices or complicated vacuum equipment and can be implemented in a highly compact setup. The researchers were also able to verify that the memory has a very low noise level and is suitable for single photons.

One step closer to the quantum internet

“The combination of a simple setup, high bandwidth and low noise level is very promising for future application in quantum networks,” says Janik Wolters, first author of the study. The development of such quantum networks is one of the goals of the National Center of Competence in Quantum Science and Technology (NCCR QSIT) and of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation that have funded this study. In the future, quantum networks could lead to unconditionally secure communication, the networking of different quantum computers and the simulation of complex physical, chemical and biological systems.

Spock stood primly next to Kirk as the report on Khan and his crew was delivered to Starfleet HQ; the meeting had already been postponed too long due to Kirk’s recovery in the hospital. Admiral Hackett headed the meeting alongside a few other Admirals, all waiting to hear the conclusion of the battle and the whereabouts of the cryo-pods.

After all the required information had been gathered, Hackett leaned forward, addressing Kirk, “Captain, is there anything else you wish to present before we conclude this meeting?”

“Yes sir,” Kirk motioned for Spock to step forward.

“First officer Spock, you have something to present?”

“Yes sir,” Spock answered respectfully, holding up a black square disk.

“What is that?”

“It was recovered from Khan’s body. An expert on Earth’s 20th Century informed me it’s an archaic piece of technology used primarily for data storage; it’s known to be a floppy disk.”

“Can you tell us what data stored on it?”

“That’s the problem Admiral,” Kirk commented. “The technology’s encrypted and too ancient for any of our experts to decipher; we were hoping you’d know of someone that could help.”

Two of the female Admirals on Hackett’s left murmured to one-another before the one closest conferred quietly with him. He looked mildly stunned before reluctantly nodding his head and facing Kirk once more. “Admiral Roberts has suggested (F/N) (L/N) as a solution to this dilemma.”

“(F/N) (L/N)?”

“Yes, (s)he was a student here quite some time ago, specialising in ancient technologies, though (s)he later dropped off the course due to some… social problems.”

“Social problems sir?”

Hackett sighed, dropping formalities slightly, “Kirk, I’ll be honest, (Y/N) is the best person for the job but (s)he isn’t the easiest person to work with; that’s why (s)he left the course, you may want to look for someone more trust-worthy.”

“I think we can handle it sir.”

“Very well. There is one more condition however. You must remain in the hospital wing until the doctors deem you fit for active duty, understood?”

Kirk tensed, he thought about arguing his case but quickly rejected the idea; Admiral Hackett wasn’t the type to change his mind, nor was he forgiving to those who challenged his authority. “Very well sir, though I’d like to request First officer Spock and Chief Medical Officer McCoy be the ones to approach (L/N).”

“Request granted, meeting adjourned.”

The admirals rose, leaving Spock and Kirk alone in the meeting room. “Spock, I want constant updates on that disk.”

“Understood, Captain.” Spock replied.

You picked up your phaser upon hearing your doorbell go off; nobody made a habit of visiting you without calling ahead first so whoever it was had to be either rude, stupid, or a dissatisfied third party. Regardless, you didn’t suffer fools gladly, and they were about to discover that, one way or another.

You glanced through the peep-hole of your apartment, irked to find to members of Starfleet. Despite your initial instinct to leave them there until they left, you needed the pay that their work could bring.

“What’s the job?” You demanded upon opening the door, hiding your phaser on the table behind you.

One man, the Vulcan, raised an eyebrow, while the other spluttered momentarily.

“How did you-” One asked in his Southern accent.

“Friends call ahead; so do jobs typically. Starfleet regulation uniforms. He’s a chief science officer, where else would Starfleet put a Vulcan willing to work with them? And you- you have a stain on the side of your shirt, green liquid with a slight aroma… medical officer, presumably the chief.”

“Incredible.” McCoy murmured.

“What’s the job?”

“All right, to begin with I’m Doctor McCoy and this is Mr Spock-”

“I didn’t ask your names, I asked what the job is. If you’re going to be a bumbling fool and continue to waste my time then I suggest you find somebody else.”

“Unbelievable, Spock you take this one, (s)he’s insufferable.” McCoy growled.

Spock considered apologising on behalf of McCoy but quickly moved on to pull out the floppy disk. “Recently, this item was removed from a criminal who had particular ties with the 20th century. It’s been encrypted and we were informed that you are able to decrypt it.”

You nodded. “And?”

“And what?” McCoy spat. “We want you to decrypt it.”

“I’ll bet that sour attitude is why you’re divorced.”

“How dare-”

“No. How dare you? You come to my house without calling ahead, waste my time, and then don’t even offer payment. In my book that’s rude. Look, I know I’m an asshole but what’s your excuse, hmm? If you have a problem with the observations I make then you’ve clearly spent too much time around people who spend their entire lives with closed eyes. It’s clear you were married, you have the indentation of a wedding ring, clearly long gone. Not to mention, you came here partially drunk, I could smell you through the door.”

Spock raised both eyebrows, questioning McCoy with a glance. You grinned as another, albeit surprising, realisation hit. “And you,” You addressed Spock, “You’re half human. Now that’s a mix I never thought I’d see.”

“We are wasting time,” Spock noted, stopping your spree. “You need this job and we need your help; surely that is enough to foster an agreement.”

You glowered. “What makes you think I need this?”

“There is an eviction notice below your feet; it’s a final notice.”

You blushed furiously. Other people weren’t supposed to notice things, that was you job, it’s what made you special; you wanted to be angry even if you didn’t have the right.

When you didn’t speak, Spock continued, “It’s like you said, I do not go through life ‘with closed eyes.’”

‘Was that sarcasm?’ You wondered. If it was, what other traits did the hybrid contain? He was unlike any puzzle you’d faced before, you wanted to unlock him more than anything.

Hiding your new-found enthusiasm, you snatched the floppy-disk away. “Pay this month’s rent and I’ll do it. Alone.

As you’d predicted, McCoy stepped forward angrily. “If you think we’re leaving you with classified information, you’re as crazy as a soup sandwich.”

“Then what do you suggest? That I work with one of you?” You added extra sarcasm for emphasis.

“Would you be willing to?” Spock asked.

You hid a smile. “Who’d it be?”

“Hmm…. Make it two months’ rent and I suppose I can work with a baby sitter.”

Spock nodded in agreement. “Then we have an agreement.”

You opened your door wider. “Make yourself at home.” Facing McCoy, you added, “Pick him up tomorrow at 6:00 pm.”

Although you knew the disk could’ve been done in under an hour, you’d be sure to take it extra slowly; deciphering the Vulcan was sure to take quite some time.

@Regrann from @freedom_faction - An 11-year-old #Shaolin #KungFu black-belt from #Texas stunned an audience of security experts in the #Netherlands on Tuesday by demonstrating that anything connected to the #InternetofThings (#IOT) can be #weaponized, even a teddy bear.

Whether it’s information technology, gymnastics, or Shaolin Kung Fu, 11-year-old Reuben Paul knocks it out of the park.

The Anti-Media reports:

This kid from #Austin, #Texas, just stunned a crowd of #cybersecurity experts at a conference in the Netherlands by demonstrating how just about anything can be “weaponized” when it’s connected to the Internet. “From airplanes to automobiles, from smartphones to smart homes, anything or any toy” can be part of the Internet of Things (IOT), Paul said while speaking at the World Forum in The Hague. “From terminators to teddy bears, anything or any toy can be weaponized.” The 6th grader, who also excels in gymnastics and is the youngest-ever #American to earn a Shaolin Kung Fu black belt, put his money where his mouth was. To back up his claims, he presented a teddy bear that connects to wi-fi using Bluetooth technology.

Paul then plugged a small device known as a “#RaspberryPi” into his laptop. The 11-year-old scanned the room for Bluetooth devices, then — “to everyone’s amazement,” according to Agence France-Presse — he downloaded dozens of phone numbers from the cyber security experts gathered in the room.

Then, using a computer language program called #Python, Paul hacked into the teddy bear’s system using one of the collected numbers. To hammer his point home, he turned on the toy’s light and recorded a message from an audience member. “IOT home appliances, things that can be used in our everyday lives, our cars, lights, refrigerators,” Paul told AFP after the conference, “everything like this that is connected can be used and weaponized to spy on us or harm us.” The wunderkind’s father, information technology expert Mano Paul — while admittedly “shocked” by the types of security vulnerabilities his son is able to expose — says Reuben has been doing this type of thing all this life: 🖐🏾More in comments👇🏾#Technocracy #SurveillanceState #WatchDo

Russia's soft warfare

Russia has been making the headlines of international media for a while now. But none of that had to do with a strong economy or a powerful army because Russia simply doesn’t have either. Instead, it has learned to interfere through other means in the politics, media, elections and national security of other countries. The United States still cannot get over the Russian interference in last year’s presidential elections, while European countries are terrified at the prospect of something like that happening to them this year. The new methods of Russian influence are well known, but it seems that western countries have turned out to be unprepared for them.

In the coming months a whole bunch of European countries will be having elections: in March, the Netherlands; in April, France; in September, Germany and Norway; and perhaps early elections in Italy. And all of these countries without exception have already complained about attacks by Russian hackers. In France they attacked Emmanuel Macron, the main opponent to far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who insists on the revoking of sanctions on Russia. In Germany, they attacked Angela Merkel, a big critic of the Kremlin. In Italy reportedly, the foreign ministry and armed forces suffered attacks. In Norway, Russian connection was discovered in a phishing attack on a police station and a host of government officials. In the Netherlands, after many attacks by Russian hackers on government servers, it was decided that votes will be counted by hand. And these are not all the incidents by far. International media has focused on the scandal with Russian hackers in the US, but actually there isn’t a western country that has not faced cyberattacks from Russia. The United Kingdom recently complained about the increase in Russian hackers’ activity, while cyberattacks were also reported by Turkey, the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Finland, Sweden and many others. In Russia, there are two major Kremlin-sponsored hacker groups: Fancy Bear (APT 28) and Cozy Bear (APT 29). They use similar methods and READ MORE: Donald Trump: Russian hacking had ‘no effect’ on vote both have a big budget, state of the art equipment and a wide network of employees working every day. They know well which politicians, officials and journalists they should attack and who to send the obtained compromising information to. It is known that one of these groups Fancy Bear also attacked Russian opposition activists inside the country and enemies of the Kremlin abroad, including the Democratic Party in the US. This has been confirmed by at least four independent cyber-security organisations which analysed the phishing emails used in the attacks. Given the objects of these attacks, it’s not difficult to guess who stands behind Fancy Bear. Even Al Jazeera’s website suffered an attack by Fancy Bear. Clearly the Kremlin has not limited its cyber-warfare to the West.

Fake news

Cyberattacks are not the only tactic the Kremlin has used trying to boost its political influence abroad. Another fashionable tool these days is fake news. Spreading disinformation was a favourite KGB tool in Soviet times, but now in the Facebook era, old methods are being used on a new level. All around the world there are enough people who are earnestly ready to share news in social networks. According to a BuzzFeed investigation , if one is to judge by the number of shares, the 20 most popular fake news about the elections in the US turned out to be more popular than the 20 most popular real news. OPINION: Mr Trump, meet Bond, James Bond - From Russia with love A separate role is played by the Russian diaspora, a significant part of which watches mainly Russian TV channels. This is quite a big problem for countries where Russian speakers are a significant part of the population - countries of the former Soviet Union. But in recent times, it has also become a problem for Western Europe, where the diaspora. too, has become an active object of Russian state influence. For example, some of the demonstrations of the marginal nationalist movement Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (Pegida) in Germany were organised by representatives of Russian diaspora organisations, which are funded by the Kremlin; speeches at some of these rallies would be given in Russian. Fake news broadcast by Russia One channel about a Russian girl who was raped by migrants was used as an excuse for one of these rallies. The news of course was widely shared within the Russian diaspora.

Pegida is only one example of the tens of marginal political parties and movements which the Kremlin supports in different countries and more often than not these are ultra-right, anti-globalisation, and separatist movements. Every year the Kremlin organises a major get-together for these movements in Moscow and sometimes in other countries. Within the network of Russian influence, there are also members of parliament, even if not that prominent, of some major parties. Some of them will attend big Kremlin-sponsored forums in exchange for a serious honorarium and when needed will make the necessary statements about, for example, the Crimea referendum being transparent and free. At first glance it seems that the support of local freaks is simply a waste of money. But it can be seen as a venture-capital investment. Most of the supported projects will fail, but there is a possibility that some of them might take off. Sometimes marginal politicians such as Marine Le Pen, who received a loan from a Russian bank turn into political heavyweights. Donald Trump was seen for a long time as marginal and an outsider and, if the rumours about his ties to the Kremlin are confirmed, then certainly he would be the most successful of all Russian venture-capital investments.

Another player in Russia’s cyberwars are the trolls who try to simulate societal reactions and undertake the vicious persecution of targeted individuals on social networks and in the comment sections of foreign media outlets. А sizeable troll office is located on Savushkina Street in St Petersburg, where employees work a full work day and receive $500. There are also other troll factories, including one in Moscow which specialises in spamming outlets such as Fox News, CNN, BBC, the Huffington Post and others. Usually a troll’s account is easy to recognise: it is either empty of content, or is filled with reposts. Even if trolls don’t succeed in convincing their victims that they are real, they still manage to interfere with attempts to have a normal discussion with an audience. Because of trolling, many media organisations have been forced to drop comment sections from their websites.

One of the latest inventions of Russian propaganda are the Kremlin’s pranksters. A prime time show on Russian One channel had pranksters call high-level politicians - such as former Georgian President Miheil Saakashvili, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and US Senator John McCain - using a variety of pretexts to try to provoke them into saying something not politically correct. The task - if not to discredit - is at least to poke fun of the politicians who don’t have good relations with the Kremlin. In a time when on Russian state TV one cannot even sneeze without the permission of the censor, it is not difficult to guess the motivation behind having such a show.

Soft power v propaganda

Russia’s new information warfare is more powerful and effective than Soviet propaganda. But no matter how inventive Moscow is in using new technologies for information warfare, it still has the same vulnerability which led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union - propaganda is useless if it is not backed with soft power, or the power of being a model nation. Hackers and trolls might help you discredit the opponent, but they cannot create a positive image of your country, when it is a poor, unfree state with rampant corruption, backward education and a weak healthcare system. Yes, Russia is a serious threat to the West in the sense that it can encourage the growth of the ultra-conservative and populist forces, pushing for disintegration and nationalism - all this might affect negatively economic growth and security. But the problem is that Moscow does not really get anything out of it. OPINION: The inevitable Trumputin divorce The children of US officials don’t go to study in Moscow University; Swiss businessmen are not depositing their money in Russian banks; Germans are not buying Russian cars. Paradoxically, Russia will be the first to suffer from the weakening of the West. In a time of crisis, investors will first withdraw their money from unstable developing markets, including Russia. The world economy survived Trump and Brexit but if Europe is hit by another wave of protectionism and nationalism as happened after World War I, the consequences of that would be so grave that it would put the survival of the Russian state under question. He is the editor-in-chief of The Insider. The views expressed in this article are the author’s own and do not necessarily reflect Al Jazeera’s editorial policy.

do you ever think about like, 2000 years from now, when it’s gonna feel like the internet has always existed, and how people are going to talk about “pre” and “post” internet times. history is going to be recorded and taught so differently. you’ll probably find the blog or facebook page from when important figures were teens. they’re going to wonder what it was like to live in our time, when everyone was adjusting to this new way of life.

Gloria Burgle and technology

Stop me if someone else has already said this but I have been thinking a lot about what Gloria Burgle’s disdain for and inability to use or even be registered by technology is about and, aside from being just a Fargo/Coens-esque character quirk, I have come to the conclusion that the point of it is tied into her being an honest person, who doesn’t have any “dirt”. I’m not sure if that is the best way to describe it, but think about how the season’s main villian, V.M. Varga, surveils and other information about his “targets” with technology.

Gloria not using technology makes her invisible in a way, and gives her a unique upperhand against him and, ultimately, will likely be why she’ll be the one who is able to take him down.

I also think her nonuse of computers and such could also tie into the theme of story vs. truth because we very much live in a culture where people exaggerate the extravagance of their lives on social media (think about really popular Instagram accounts with perfectly cropped and filtered, bright and airy feeds). Gloria is someone who lives outside of that “story”.

It also makes me think about how we put so many personal details, thoughts, and things they do online (“if you didn’t post it… did it even happen?”) And Gloria lives outside of that “truth” too.

2) He is glad that Safrona actually is still willing to do business with him after the almost-fiasco and close call of the gem delivery business. The druid could at least say he did his duty as a ‘bodyguard’ well despite them getting a few minor injuries.

3) Since Saraj often visits Asha’s grandfather, Eoloran, the old elf actually took a liking to the ethereal as he could provide valuable information regarding the way the arcane arts are used in ethereal technology, and counts him as a good conversation partner.

What is the relationship between the material and digital worlds? How do the presence of both spaces disrupt borders and boundaries?

The relationship between the material and digital worlds is constantly expanding. Many people use the digital world of the internet to buy material objects online just as many companies create digital advertisements in order to encourage these purchases, just like how the creator of just pearls came across the images featured on her website from advertisements in her spam email. Likewise, in the material world you’ll see digital advertisements on billboards and monitors. The digital world is used to spread information about the material world. As technology advances further, the boundaries between the material and digital world seem to blur together. With the introduction of virtual reality headsets, rearview cameras, and smart phones we begin to see the digital world being incorporated into the material world. Many technologies also process important information or perform certain tasks that aid in the production of material objects. Technology is becoming increasingly important to perform expected daily tasks. Many people don’t only use their smart phone to call and text people but as a camera, as a calculator, a  voice recorder, an alarm clock, etc. More and more material possessions are being compacted and merged together into one digital do-all device.

How to Do Business with NASA

It’s Small Business Week! To celebrate, we’re breaking down the process and explaining how YOUR small business can work with us. Here are 10 steps:

Prior to working with us, identify which of your products or services best fit within our industry. It’s also important to know the Federal Supply Class or Service Codes (FSC/SVC) for your products or services. Prepare a capability brief in both printed and electronic versions with an emphasis on Government work.

In order to register your business with us, there are three systems you’ll need to use. The Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS), the System for Award Management (SAM) and the NASA Vendor Data Base (NVDB). After you’ve survived all those acronyms, your business is registered!

Here at NASA we have centers around the country that each procure different types of business. Where does your product or service fit in? The best thing to do is visit THIS site and find out more about each center. You can also take a look at our Acquisition Forecast to find out about expected contract opportunities.

You can find current procurement opportunities in your product or service area by checking the Federal Business Opportunities website. This site also helps you identify our requirements and even send you e-mail notifications of released requirements.

Contracting procedures can be tedious, it’s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), as well as our supplement to those regulations. Which can be found HERE.

Did you know that many of our purchases are orders on the Federal Supply Schedule contracts? They are, which means you can contact the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for information on how to obtain a contract.

There are some very beneficial resources available to you throughout this process. You can request training and counseling on marketing, financial and contracting issues at minimal or no cost from Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs).

You also have the option to consult with the SBA’s Procurement Center Representatives (PCRs) and the SBA Business Development Centers. The SBA provides each of our centers with a liaison.

There is also an option to get free and confidential mentoring by former CEOs through SCORE.

Direct contracting is not the only route for small businesses. Consider subcontracting opportunities, and get information through the SBA’s SUB-Net or Subcontracting Opportunities Directory. Solicitations or notices are posted by prime contractors. Our list of prime vendors is located on our Marshall Space Flight Center’s website.

Explore other small business programs, such as our Mentor-Protégé Program, the Small Business Innovation Research Program and the Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions Program. Information on these and other programs is available on our Office of Small Business Programs website.

After you have identified your customers, researched their requirements and familiarized yourself with our procurement regulations and strategies, it’s time to market your product or service. Present your capabilities directly to the NASA Centers that buy your products or services. Realize that, as with yours, their time is valuable. If the match is a good one, you can provide them with a cost-effective, quality solution to their requirements. Good luck!

Here are a Few Small Businesses We’re Already Working With…

Dynetics Technical Services, Inc., of Huntsville, AL works with us on enterprise information technology services so that we have the right tools to reach for new heights. This company was also named Agency Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year.

They live in a warehouse in Japan(the warehouses are on the docks) this means they rarely go outside due to fear of water so no they do not have jobs but it is a concept I am toying with!  Since its a warehouse for an important company sometimes they store old technology there that they decided against throwing out. (hence the technology they are seen using). Sometimes the old technology has credit information on it which is easily accessible for another machine.

Thank you for asking! I’ve been itching to explain XD

Chapter 3: You vs. Them Part II

Robyn POV:

I walked into the restaurant where I was meeting Michael. I gave the hostess my name and she escorted me to my seat, where he was already sitting.

“Hi Robyn, glad you could make it” He said standing up and greeting me with a hug. I almost fainted at the scent of his cologne. He smelled so good.  I slid into the booth and a waitress came over to take our drink orders.

“Umm I’ll take a glass of Moscato” I said looking at the wine list.

“And I’ll just have a glass of water” Michael said and I looked at him.

“You are over twenty one, right?” I said and he laughed.

“Absolutely, I just don’t drink often.” He said and I nodded.

Shortly the waitress came back with our drinks and asked if we would like an appetizer, and we said to give us a minute. I wasn’t ready to start eating yet. I just wanted to talk and find out about him.

“So why did you choose this place?” he said.

“Because I really love Italian food and theirs certainly is the most authentic and the best.”

“So Michael tell me about yourself. Why did you move here?” I asked taking a sip of my wine.

“Well I’m an IT Consultant and it causes me to travel a lot.”

“What exactly do they do?” I said, wanting to know more.

“Well I have different companies that are my clients, and they call me to advise them on how to use information and communication technology to meet their needs and goals. Sometimes I can consult with them via Internet or phone, but in cases like this I have to travel to where they are to do my job. ”

“Oh wow you must really love traveling, and how long are you going to be here?”

“I love traveling. I’ve been to many countries and cities. The world is truly a beautiful place and the company I’m working with now is a new one, so I may be here for a couple of months or however long they need me. I don’t really know yet.” He said and I nodded.

“Enough about me Robyn, what do you do?”

“I own a boutique and I design on the side. I’m thinking about working with this apparel company because they seem very interested in my designs. ”

“Congratulations on that and you must really like fashion, huh?”

“I love it. I’m actually opening my second boutique in about a month.”

“I hope I get an invite to the Grand Opening” he said smiling. He really has gorgeous teeth.

“Definitely” I said smiling back.

“You know I just have to tell you that you look stunning tonight.” He said.

“You’re quite the charmer huh and thank you. You look very nice too.” I said truthfully. He was killing that black Armani suit.

“Not really, I’m just a man being honest and thank you.”

We continued talking and I learned so much about him and vice versa. He is so nice and funny. I’m really having a great time and I’m happy I decided to come.

“So Robyn…” he said grabbing my hand and rubbing his thumb across the top of it. I felt a shiver go up my spine and my body became warm.

“Yes?” I said while he was still holding my hand.

“Do you have anyone special in your life at the moment?” he asked and I thought. Wow this is the first time my mind went to Christopher tonight.

“Well…umm hold that question. I have to go to the bathroom.” I got up and grabbed my Chanel clutch purse and headed to the restroom.  I walked in and stared at myself in the mirror. My face was pinkish from blushing.

“Ok Robyn, get it together. Why is it so hard to tell this man yes I’m seeing someone.” I said out loud and a woman walked out of the stall and looked at me like I was crazy.

“Hi” I said giving her a weak smile and she did the same. She washed her hands and started speed walking out the bathroom.

I got a wet paper towel and patted around my face and neck area with it. I applied more lipstick and ran my hands down my dress. I went to the door and took a deep breath. I walked out looking down into my purse to make sure I put all my things back in it.

“Robyn!! Hey there lady” I looked up and damn near passed out right in this restaurant. Omg no no no, this can’t be happening. I wanted to run full speed out of this place, but I couldn’t do that.

I continued walking and my eyes connected with Chris’. He was clenching his jaw and giving me a death stare. Man if looks could kill. I stared back at him, apologizing with my eyes but I could tell he wasn’t having it.

“Hey what are y’all doing here?” I said as Michael was sliding out the booth so I could sit next to Kelly.

“Well Christopher made the reservations but when we got here the lady said they were busy and she offered us to sit here and your sweet date said it was ok. I hope you don’t mind.” Kelly explained.

“No it’s fine with me.” It remained silent for a while until the waitress came to take our orders. We told her what we wanted and she walked away.

“So how did you guys meet?” Kelly asked out of nowhere.

“We met on an elevator. As the doors were closing he yelled for me to hold it for him and I did.” I replied.

“Awww that’s so cute. How long have you two known each other?” Kelly countered and Chris looked at me, waiting for an answer.

“Not long at all. This is actually our first date.” Michael said and I saw Chris tense up at the word “date”.

“We’re sorry we ruined y’all first date” Chris said with a bit of sarcasm in his voice. I think I’m the only one who caught it.

“It’s ok y’all didn’t ruin anything. This beautiful woman right here was already giving me one of the best nights of my life just by being here, so nothing can ruin this.”

“You sure?” Chris said slightly chuckling under his breath.

“Yea man I’m sure.” Michael said and Kelly leaned over to me and I leaned closer to her.

“Wow he seems like an amazing man. Don’t let him go, he’s a keeper.” she said trying to whisper but I know the men heard her because they looked over at us, and Chris rolled his eyes but I giggled at her comment.

“So Christopher how long have you been a Pastor?” Michael asked as he wrapped his arm around me. Chris squeezed his glass so hard; I just knew it would shatter.

“About 10 years man”

“You must have started really young then”

“Yea I did” I could tell he had an attitude and I can understand why.

“I should come visit your church sometime with Robyn.”

“If you want to” he said and grabbed Kelly’s hand.

Thank God the waitress shortly came with our food. We began eating and made small talk. The waitress came and took our plates. Kelly and I ordered tiramisu and Chris and Michael ordered cannolis for dessert.

“Oh babe you have to try this” Kelly said feeding Chris.

“It’s good but baby you got something on your face; let me get it.” Chris said kissing and lowkey licking the corner of Kelly’s lips. That pissed me off but I’m not about to play this game with him. We finished our dessert and Chris paid for his and Kelly’s meal and Michael paid for ours.

Michael grabbed my hand and we walked out the restaurant with Christopher and Kelly.

“It was really nice meeting you guys.”  Michael said hugging Kelly and giving Chris dap.

“Yea you too” Chris said but I know he didn’t mean that at all.

“Bye Robyn we’ll be seeing you.” Kelly said hugging me and Chris just stood there. We waved them goodbye and they left.

“Despite our extra guest, I had fun tonight Michael.” I said as he was walking me to my car.

“I’m glad you did and I did as well, but umm does that mean I can see you again?” he said rubbing the back of his neck and I thought for minute.

“Yes, of course”

“Great, I’ll call you.”

“Ok cool.” I said.

“Goodnight Robyn, be safe” he said kissing my cheek.

“Night and you too” I replied getting in my car and driving home. Omg I have to call Mel as soon I step foot in the house. She won’t believe this mess.

Chris POV:

I have been silent since we left the restaurant. My mind was playing ping pong with my thoughts. I must say tonight was pure torture. Once again I envisioned Robyn and that guy at the table with his arm wrapped around her and him holding her hand when we were outside. Just thinking about it made me angry. Jesus really had control of my hands tonight, because I really wanted to reach over and punch the shit out of him. Why she let him do that? What was with all the giggling and blushing she was doing? What the hell was that? I swear she better not have invited him in or kissed him.

“I really enjoyed our date babe. Robyn and her date were both sweet” Kelly wouldn’t give this Robyn talk a rest.

I don’t want to hear about this shit. My mind is already recapping tonight’s events. Why must Kelly keep reiterating things?

“Mmhuh it was nice, but I really wished we could have been alone babe” I dryly stated. She threw her hands in the air and proceeded to our shared walk in closet. I removed my blazer and untied my bow tie.

“Babe you made me feel young again tonight” She yelled across the room. She really enjoyed her night, lucky her.

My phone began to make soft vibrations on the nightstand and I slowly checked my messages.

“Babe Mijo is stranded and he needs assistance. I won’t be long”

“Chris he can’t call anyone else?” She presented herself in full lingerie and something that hasn’t transpired in what felt like an eternity happened.

My soldier stood at attention for this beautiful goddess. Kelly’s body is a fine piece of art and the light shined bright on my Godiva Chocolate beauty.

“Baby I promise I will be right back no later than 45 minutes. Take a warm bath and prepare your body for the Christopher’s circus tonight. I’m going to wear you out”. She blushed and pecked my lips.

“Hurry back lover, I don’t want to grow cold” I smack her ass and headed to the garage.

Woof Woof!!” Buddy was barking loudly for attention. I’ve neglected him lately.

"You want to roll with me little fellow”. He barked in agreement and we walked side by side. I decided to take the drop top Porsche for Buddy’s sake and the temperature outside was wonderful.

I checked my surroundings and buckled up for safety, a normal ritual for me, before leaving.

"This is 95.5 the beat and the topic tonight on the quiet storm is relationships. Call in and give us the craziest situation you’ve been in. The lines are now open.” The radio jockey announced.

“Hey DJ Smooth this is…” The caller cleared her throat. "This is Toya and I’m in an awkward state right now.”

"Talk to Dj Smooth Toya.”

“I love this man with all of my heart but he belongs to another”

“Oh scandalous Toya tell us more” Dj Smooth iggs the caller on.

“He is amazing and I know he loves me, but tonight we were both on dates and we spotted each other. My heart dropped. I’ve never be in such an uncompromising position like that in my life.” I listened closely to the caller and a goofy smirk crept across my face.

“Toya baby girl talk about awkward, that sounds like it’s from a romantic comedy” We’re romantic alright but I don’t see humor in “Toya's” and I situation. Robyn is something else.

"Thanks for calling Toya. Enjoy the rest of your night sweetie”

Buddy dropped his head and gave me a distasteful look, like he read my mind and knew the caller as well.

“Oh don’t fucking look at me like that Buddy damn”. He barked lowly and lied back down. My phone rang and I answered it with my steering wheel.

“Bro it took your slow ass long enough; Mel came to my rescue, but thanks though I’ll be fine”

“Alright bro be safe.  I was almost there”

“I’m leaving the scene now Chris"

“Ok bro, don’t have too much fun tonight” Mijo and Mel have been really heating things up lately and I haven’t seen him give anyone this much attention.

“Tell Chris what he did tonight was petty, and he should be ashamed. He doesn’t want my friend to move on” Mel was muttering nonsense in the background.

What is she talking about? I was on my best behavior so she needs to pipe down because clearly she doesn’t know anything about me or Robyn. Her best friend is the one that needs to be ashamed of herself. I hung up without saying my farewells. I didn’t have time for her mouth.

“Buddy are you down for a road trip? Let’s ride out”

I made a quick U-turn and hit the freeway. Thirty minutes later I arrived to my destination.

“Buddy you stay here and be quiet” I said and looked at him. He was knocked out sleep so I guess he won’t be a problem. I got out the car and walked to the door. I need answers.

Kelly POV:

I can’t believe he just left me like that. This was supposed to be our night together. I sent the kids to stay with their grandmother, bought lingerie, bought strawberries with whipped cream, and much more so tonight could be special, and he just ups and leaves.

I stepped into my warm bubble bath and my mind slipped to something I try not to think about. I’m not stupid and I honestly know Christopher has been or was cheating on me. I’m not sure with who but I saw inappropriate pictures and text messages that didn’t have a face or name awhile back. I was too afraid to call the number, because a part of me was in denial and also I didn’t want to know who the woman was. God forbid it was someone I knew.

I snuck and checked his phone the other day, but I didn’t find anything. Either he stopped talking to her or he has gotten wise and started deleting the evidence. Whatever it is I’m not going to let some home wrecker come in and ruin what we worked so hard to build.

Robyn POV:

I just got off the phone with the radio and laughed to myself. It really wasn’t a funny situation at the time, but once you say it out loud to someone else it is a little hilarious. I poured myself a cup of hot tea with lemon and sat on the couch indian style, and turned on the T.V. I scrolled through the guide and came across a movie called Another Woman’s Husband on Lifetime. This shall be good. I clicked on it and began to watch.

“Oh come on girl. I know you’re new in town but open your eyes it’s clear that he’s married to your friend. There are too many similarities for it to be a coincidence.” I said to the T.V. This movie is really good and shit is about to hit the fan. I heard a knock at my door and groaned. I put the movie on pause so I wouldn’t miss anything.

“Who is it?” I said walking to the door, but no one answered.

“I said who is it?” still no one answered. I looked out my peephole and became irritated. I opened my door and walked away.

“What are you doing here?”

“Is that really the way you’re going to greet me?”

“Shouldn’t you be sucking your wife’s face off like you were at dinner?”

“I only did that once but I’m-“

“Once was enough for me.”

“Don’t act like I’m the only who did something wrong. What about you and ol boy giggling, whispering, and snuggling at the table.”

“Oh please we were not snuggling”

“The hell y’all wasn’t” he said slightly raising his voice and I rolled my eyes.

“Anyways like I said why are you here”

“I came here to get some answers”

“Answers huh? Are you sure you didn’t come here to make sure I didn’t have any guest.”

“Nah because I knew nobody would be here.”

“Oh really? Well I’m sorry dad I wasn’t aware that I had to ask for permission to have someone over if I wanted to. I’ll make sure to call if I want to invite someone over.” I sarcastically stated.

“Stop being so damn extra and just talk to me” he said sitting down on the couch but I remained standing.

“Ok you said you wanted answers, so start asking questions.” I said folding my arms.

“Why?” he said holding his head down and putting his hands in a prayer like form.

“Why, what Christopher?”

“Why did you go out with him?”

“Simply because I wanted to; it wasn’t to be malicious or hurt you in any way. I just wanted to go.”

“Are you going to see him again and do you like him?”

“I plan on it and yes I do” I said. I honestly do like Michael and he seems like a great guy.

“Are you sleeping with him?” he said with his head still down and clenching his jaw like he did at dinner, but this time more aggressively.

“I bet that was the question you wanted to ask first huh?”

“Just answer the damn question”

“First of all I don’t know who you think you’re talking to like that but let’s get one thing straight, because you seem to have forgotten. I am a grown ass woman and I can do what I please with whoever I please. I just met that man and the only person I’ve been with these past 10 months is you and you-“

“Listen nothing!!! The fact that you would even ask me that shows how much you think of me.” I said and he looked at me.

“Don’t even go there Robyn you know exactly what I think of you and how I feel about you.”

“I can’t tell by the way you’re acting”

“How the hell am I acting Robyn? You out here on dates with other dudes and you expect me to be ok with that shit. Nah Fenty you got it twisted.”

“What the hell? Nah you’re the one who got it twisted. You’re sitting here questioning me like I’m a child and like you’re not the one who’s tied down. I don’t need you to be ok with anything, because I’m going to do me regardless, whether you like it or not.”

“Is that right?”

“Did I stutter? Yea that’s right.”

“Don’t play yourself baby girl”

“No, you don’t play yourself and you know what?” I said and he stayed silent.

“You are the biggest hypocrite I’ve ever met in my life”

“Yea and you are the biggest b-” he said and I chuckled.

“You better not say it. You don’t even deserve to have the title or word Pastor in your name. You’re nothing but a fraud ass nigga.” He got up and walked towards me.

I felt tears form in my eyes but I didn’t let them fall. Fuck that I’m tired of crying. I turned my head to not look in his direction but he grabbed my face and stared at me.

“Don’t ever in your life disrespect my role as a Pastor. You understand? You and I both know you’ve never been a saint; so don’t start trying to act like one.”

“Get the hell out my face and leave now!!!” My voice boomed and echoed throughout my house.

“Gladly” he said walking out and slamming my door so hard, causing me to jump.

I walked upstairs to my room and laid down. The tears I was holding back began to fall. I don’t know where this leaves Chris and I but as of right now I don’t want to see or talk to him. If this is the end for us it’s ok because I rather be free and happy alone anyway, than hidden with someone else.

Students who have adapted to and now rely on using technology shouldn’t be cut off from this resource in the classroom. Many students use technological tools to overcome learning differences, to organize information, to engage in discussions that help them think through material. And they are more successful because of it. Some students with learning challenges have adapted to using technology without having to report a disability and announce that disability to their classmates or professors. Professors might not know that students in their classrooms are dealing with learning disabilities and are succeeding because of assistive technology. These students may not be registered with the “Office of Disability Services,” they might not be “diagnosed,” and have their learning differences medicalized — but then again, why should they have to in order to use the tools that help them?

Amethyst and Peridot

A lot of people have jumped onto the bandwagon that Amethyst is abusive to Peridot because she was going to throw her tablet into the ocean; inappropriate as that may be, it was not out of a desire to “punish” or make Peridot feel bad, it was the opposite. Amethyst and Peridot are somewhat similar when you think about it, they’re outsiders. Yes, Amethyst has been a member of the gems for awhile, but she’s not the gem she could be -which she knows due to Peridot pointing that out to her. Amethyst reacted to that and feeling like a failure by Pearl’s standards she broke down and cried. She has a decent idea of how Peridot feels, because Peridot is out of place, stranded on a planet she is unfamiliar with, and already felt bad because she couldn’t go on the roller coaster ride, and couldn’t shape shift. She thinks her only use is information and technology and that’s the only reason why the gems keep her around. Peridot likely has fears of being abandoned again or being useless and unable to contribute to the group because she blames herself for the trouble she got them into, especially considering Yellow Diamond’s response to the cluster being stopped may be very extreme once they find Jasper. Amethyst saw this and tried to cheer her up, and although trying to chuck Peri’s tablet into the ocean would have done more bad than good, Amethyst wasn’t trying to punish or hurt her, she was trying to show that they like Peridot for who she is and not who she could be. Amethyst would have felt fucking horrible later had Peridot not caught the tablet with her magneto powers. Amethyst is passionate and has some character development to go, to learn how to better control her emotions and be less utterly impulsive; you can’t expect her to automatically get it right! There needs to be more development between the two of them, but no Amedot/Amidot is NOT abusive.
