use instant film

Had a blast today during my first Instant Film Society PolaWalk, shooting some color and b/w Fuji film in and around Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, TX. The weather was perfect, there was a large group of instant film enthusiasts, and learned some cool new Polaroid tricks during today’s jaunt. It doesn’t take much to get bit by the Polaroid bug, and since instant film is readily available again, I have another some-what expensive hobby to dive into. Here is one of the photos from today’s walk. Loving the rich color of the blue and red in Fuji’s instant pack film.

Today I went out with my girlfriend to hopefully find an interesting way to use instant film in my project. There are two reasons for this, the first is that my girlfriend will probably appear in my final work and the second applies to the medium that I shot on which was my Fuji Instax. The reason that i chose to use this camera is the intrinsic link between polaroid and family albums, although this is not a polaroid camera I still feel that it represents this format well. I chose not to use polaroid due to the fact that although in the past it supposed fuji’s attempts at instant film, currently the only offering comes from Impossible project which isn’t quite as good as Fuji Instax. I believe that these images worked exactly as I had hoped and came out really well. One reason that I feel these worked is the colours and tones that the film gave to the photographs, they really have a nice flat colour pallet that in a way lends itself to this kind of project. Another, reason that I feel this format works is the fact that they would not look out of place in a real family album, this is in my eyes due to the awkward look in the portraits and the slightly off centre photographs of the trees. Overall, I believe that this test was successful and I will most likely be carrying these cameras with me on following shoots.

Brand New InstantFlex TLR Shoots Instant Film

InstantFlex TL70 Features – MiNT

Mint takes its experience in rebuilding vintage Polaroid cameras and makes a brand-new TLR (twin-lens reflex) that uses instant film. It looks rad, and even has a light meter and a built in flash.

I totally want to try one of these out. Currently “coming soon.”

Today was the first time I have used instant film since I was a child. I, uh, messed up a couple of times. More than I’d like to admit. That’s especially frustrating because of how expensive the film is - about 7 or 8 bucks for a pack of 10.
