I was tired, hopped up on Dayquil but I had no misses. The weights are feeling better. I caught my snatches weird, but I always saved them. Pushing for consistency.

Friday 5/22/15 I spent most of yesterday in bed. My body appreciated the rest.

Find 1RM Power Clean: 155#, 170#, 175# (f), 175# (v), 180# (f), 180# (f), 180#, 185# (deadlift 😂).

Need to work on faster elbows and keeping the bar close. Regardless, pretty happy over this 180#. BW of 64.7kg.

David Garcia (-105kg, USA) lifting at the 2015 USAW Regionals with a 212kg/467lb clean. The side-by-side slow mo shows his 212, 210 and 200 cleans (he made the jerk on 200kg) left to right. This 212kg clean matches Ian Wilson’s cleans from the 2014 Pan Ams for the biggest competition clean by a USA 105 in the current crop of lifters (ie, lifters actively competing). If you check out his instagram at @davidtheheavyweight, he posts a ton of training videos and there’s a 220kg/485lb clean if you look back far enough (about 6 months). Cleans are definitely not the limiting factor for him!

Week 5, Day 4

This week has been light and low volume, which is awesome! I just know the next 4 week cycle will be brutal. Enjoying the “break”, nonetheless.

PC + C&J

  • 4X1 @ 115#

Video shows 1st and 4th  set. My weight was off and I had to step back to regroup. I have gotten pretty good at saving my lifts. Not sure if that is a good thing.

Hang Snatch

  • 4X3 @ 85#

I did 1st and 4th set mid hang, I did 2nd and 3rd set high hang. No misses. Pretty fun doing unbroken snatches, reminds me of my CrossFit days

BTN Sn PP + (pause) OHS

  • 3X3+1 @ 95#

I did a 3 second pause for the OHS since I need to work on my overhead stability in snatches.

Consistency is the name of the game, and each day is a step in the right direction.

Travis @traviscooper77kg Cooper (-77kg, USA) cleaning 191kg/420lb at the 2015 USAW Regionals. His 145/182/327 performance was good enough to place him on the four person male team headed to the Pan Am Games in Toronto this summer. And this 191kg was an attempt to beat Chad Vaughn’s 190kg American Record! The jerk was not too far away either, I think we’ll see Travis get this record one of these days. 191kg matches his best C&J in competition as an 85kg lifter and he also managed a 198kg/436lb clean as an 85.

Ah the sweet freedom of summer! A feeling of sweet relief, which is about to stymied by studying for my USAW Level 2 and my CSCS which I’m registered for later on in the next few months. Fortunately, the later test is farther out which gives me time to buckle down and start to read. My goal is a minimum of an hour of reading and what not most days of the week. 

It’ll all be worth it in the end! 

Honestly, I should be happy with this 130# snatch. After the week I had, plus only 6 hours of sleep, to hit 130# today was pretty decent.

Honestly, I am more upset about missing 140# five times. Look how high that bar is!!! Also, snatches were waaaay to slow.

Maxing out this week before going in to my next @thebarbellwod cycle… Monday was a success.. 165 FS in the AM, and 122 PC in the PM. 3 & 8 kilo PRs respectively.

Caine @thedragonwilkes Wilkes (105kg+, USA) snatching 181kg/399lb at the 2015 USAW Regionals. He won the 2014 Pan American Championship last June in the Dominican Republic with a 221kg/487lb C&J which is still his personal record. In addition, at Nationals last summer he posted a 182kg/400lb snatch and a 400kg total – the first by a US athlete in six years at the time.

I left work late, bus was running behind schedule, menstrual cycle, knee feels wonky, and I forgot my pre-workout.

All reasons I told myself to go home.

I showed up, slowly warmed up and did what I could.

I missed a clean, which woke me right up. I may miss snatches and jerks, but my cleans are my best lift. When I missed it, I knew I had to shape up or get out.

5X3 Cleans @ 140#
5X3 BTN Pause Dip Jerks @ 115#
2X3 Snatch Pulls @ 125#
3X3 Snatch Pulls @ 135#

Skipped the back squats since that’s the only movement where my knee feels weird.

Now I am stretching, something I usually skip but my hips feel super tight.
