19. Scorched

Contrary to urban legend, going through the Aptrgangr process doesn’t actually render someone skeletal.

It’s not without some quirks, sure, but generally a person should end up looking in undeath as they did in life. Perhaps with Milky eyes, occasionally with discoloured flesh but that should be about it. Nothing to worry about.

Ripley Duggan, however, did not simply take a bullet for someone, he took  fireball and his head got all of it. His dedication to his job is what makes him the number one cop on the force, thus being brought back from the dead.

The criminals just don’t listen though. Poor dude spends most of his free time sewing up his clothes.

Theory: the Moonlanding was faked, not by the government but by Mr. Gorman, that guy in that Urban Legend whose wife wouldn’t give him a blowjob until the boy next door walked on the Moon

The “astronauts” insistance on the truth of their moonwalks isn’t fear of government retibution but just Bro-code.

The new year will be the year of walking into fairy circles, smiling at glowing red eyes in corn fields, leaving flower crowns on gravestones, befriending every eerily unblinking cat and generally exposing yourself to every slightly surreal seeming phenomenon because we have nothing to lose and eldritch beings to gain as friends.

Mother Leeds, a local New Jersey witch, had 12 children and, after finding she was pregnant for the 13th time, cursed the child in frustration. After a long and painful labour on a stormy night, Mother Leeds bore her 13th child. The nurses around the bed were horrified to discover that the baby had a goat’s head, bat wings, and a forked tail. Letting out a blood-curdling screech, it killed the midwife before flying up the chimney and heading into the pines. This is the legend of the Jersey Devil, a beast which still reportedly haunts the forests of New Jersey.

Kuchisake-onna, the “Slit-Mouthed Woman”, is a paranormal figure which frequently appears in Japanese folklore. Legend says that the woman was mutilated by her husband after he believed that she was cheating on him. By slicing open her mouth, he was said to believe that no man would find her attractive again. Now, she haunts unsuspecting men.

When Kuchisake-onna appears, she is reported to ask “Am I pretty?” to her unsuspecting victim. If he answers “yes” then she will remove her mask to reveal her wounds and ask the question once again. If the man answers “no” or appears distressed by her appearance, she is said to slit his mouth from ear to ear. If he answers “yes” once again, then she follows him home and murders him as he sleeps.

Kuchisake-onna first appeared in Japanese folklore in the 1970s. Several rumours of how to escape her soon began to wend throughout the country. For example, many believe that if you give her confusing answers such as “you are average” then they have enough time to escape before she attacks.

Name: Chupacabra

Area of Origin: Central and South America, Mexico, Puerto Rico

With a name derived from the Spanish words, chupar, “to suck” and cabra, “goat” the Chupacabra (literally “goat-sucker”) is a legendary cryptid found in the folklore of the Americas. The creature’s name comes from its reported habit of drinking the blood of farm animals, particularly that of goats. Sightings and/or reports of the creature began in the mid 1990s in Puerto Rico, where 8 sheep were discovered completely drained of blood on a local’s farm. The sheep had peculiar sets of three puncture wounds on their bodies. Once the case gained notoriety, other incidents (with some as early as the 1970s) were then attributed to be the Chupacabra’s doing. Physical descriptions over time have varied, though the creature is consistently described as possessing a row of sharp spines reaching from the neck to the base of its tail. Most commonly, it is described like that of a reptilian-like creature with leathery or scaly green-gray skin, and is said to be approximately 3 to 4 feet high. Sometimes it is believed to hop on its hind legs like that of a Kangaroo. It is has been described as possessing a pair of large, red eyes, sharing a somewhat similar appearance to the common “Grey Alien” and is believed by some to be extraterrestrial in origin.
