The Temple Beth-El also known as the Broad Street synagogue is a landmark in south providence in the Elmwood neighborhood. Built in the middle of the 19th century, it has been a center of jewish cultural and civic life in the city. It has sat abandoned for a number of years following suburbanization and disinvestment in the city centers.
The Broad Street Revitalization project has been working to save this building, which is on the national register of historic places.
When we entered the main pool area I was excited like a little child. I had seen some other pools before but their state of decay only made them a big square hole inside a building. These two pools here were still intact and although there had been vandalism already, it still looks like you just have to clean up a bit and get the water running.
