upstairs downstairs 2010

I thought to compile a list of some TV dramas that are similar to/might be enjoyed by those who like Home Fires. I’ve broken it down into periods but some do overlap so I have put them under the category they first start off in.

c.World War I

c.Interwar Period

c. World War II

c.Post-World War II

These are just a few & feel free to suggest any if you want.

A to Z of Period Drama: Upstairs, Downstairs (2010-2012)

“This is my house and I have a right to know what goes on under it’s roof”

“You don’t know the half of what goes on under its roof and I don’t just mean below stairs either”

“I don’t like the tone of that remark”

“There’s a lot that you wouldn’t like the tone of, but it’s not up to me to tell you”

Monday-ness antidote

I watched the Upstairs Downstairs reboot this month but since it aired between Christmas and New Year strictly speaking I couldn’t include it in a Best of 2011 list, so I need to do a seperate post to say that

of Mrs Thackeray the cook accidentally bumping into Cecil Beaton is one of the most heartwarming things I’ve seen on TV ever. It’s made me never want to read a biography of Beaton in case he wasn’t that charming and kind and lovely in real life. And the cherry on top is finding out just now that Christopher Harper, who plays Beaton here, was Annie’s ex Neil in the first ever episode of Life on Mars. I fancy him a lot more when he’s clean-shaven and not persuading Sam to jump of roofs for the lulz.
