Island of Exiles by Erica Cameron Author Secrets!

AUTHOR SECRETS:

“What motivates you to write even when you don’t feel up to it?”

Deadlines and the expectations of my friends and editors. When I know people are waiting for chapters of a draft or the latest edit, it’s that external pressure that helps push me through the blegh-brain days. There are more of those than is good for productivity, but I manage to make it through most of the time without too many missed deadlines.

“What’s the best scene you’ve ever written?”

Each scene has a purpose, so I love all of them, but the scenes that stick with me longest are the ones including key character moments. The deepening of a relationship. A moment of epiphany. Life-altering heartbreak. Those are the scenes that I love the most, and they’re usually the ones that are the hardest to write, too.

“What book have you read that somehow changed your life and how?”

So many books have impacted me in a memorable way, but the biggest single moment was the Twilight series. It wasn’t just the books, it was the fandom and the friends it introduced me to. This series and the events in my life that followed it are what started me writing and, possibly more importantly, what kept it from being a passing fancy. In a roundabout way, Twilight is how and why I wrote ISLAND OF EXILES.

Island of Exiles by Erica Cameron is out TODAY!

Got my hands on a review copy of A Good Idea, by Cristina Moracho. I just started it today, but I’m kind of in love with it’s “rural noir” feel.

Release date: 28 February 2017

The Shade Me Trilogy by Jennifer Brown Author Secrets!

AUTHOR SECRETS:

“What motivates you to write even when you don’t feel up to it?”

Deadlines! I don’t have time to nurture the blahs. I seem to always be running tight on a deadline, and it never fails that right when deadline is approaching, I get revisions on something else, have a vacation planned, and come down with the stomach flu.

“What scene made you cry while you were writing?”

There is a scene in my (standalone) novel, TORN AWAY, where the main character, Jersey is finally able to “speak” to her mother. She does so in a very vulnerable and personal way. That scene made me cry, because I tried to imagine what my daughter would have to say if I were suddenly gone from her life. It was a pain I didn’t even like to contemplate.

“What book have you read that somehow changed your life and how?”

When it comes to YA writing, I really think MR. AND MRS. BO JO JONES by Ann Head changed my life. I read that in high school and was blown away by its honesty. I knew right away when I started writing YA that I wanted to have that same fearlessness and honesty, and tackle that same type of tough subject in my writing.

Dare You ( Shade Me Trilogy #2) by Jennifer Brown is out in stores February 14th, 2017.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

  • Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
  • Publication date: 2/26/2013
  • Pages: 320

Bono met his wife in high school, Park says.

So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers.

I’m not kidding, he says.

You should be, she says, we’re 16.

What about Romeo and Juliet?

Shallow, confused, then dead.

I love you, Park says.

Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers.

I’m not kidding, he says.

You should be.

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love—and just how hard it pulled you under.
