united we can

Very brave woman. Racism has no place anywhere in the world. You know that this problem is even worse in America. Black people must unite so that we can say that we are a single force that will not allow such a relationship from white people.

#ProtectBlackWomen  #Racism

Some nug: Yeah, but women aren’t archaeologists. No way. You’re lying.

Me, covered in dirt holding a trowel, stepping out of a truck labeled with an archaeology consulting business: Oh yes my bad. Didn’t realize that.

okay so. i’m seeing a lot of panic about Jun being on The Unit and yes u have the right to worry. i’m not saying that u can’t. worrying is perfectly reasonable. but the level of panic seems a little out of hand.

i don’t think it’s going to be as bad as everyone thinks it’s going to be.

maybe Beat Interactive is doing this to get A.C.E more fans. so what? when is more fans a bad thing? (okay so big fandoms can get out of hand but we’re doing good so far so let’s move on)

and yes if he gets super popular and ends up in the final group he’ll be away from A.C.E for a while. but look at what Produce 101 did to some people. Nu’est has never been more popular. Wanna One is doing extremely well. IOI did extremely well.

i know we want the boys to stay together, but think about how Jun feels. what if he wants to do this?

yes the show is described as an idol rebooting show. but let’s give it a chance before we freak out more, okay guys?

For everyone who doesn’t have a supportive Mother figure in their life right now

I’m your mother, now. And your father. Even if you have a father figure, or if you don’t, I’m still here for you. Cheering you on. Ever need a shoulder to cry on or some advice, I AM HERE.

Sanders Sides Appreciation Month

It’s almost been a whole year since The Sander’s Sides first debut! And to commemorate not only that but hitting 2 million subs, I want to unite the Fander’s so we can all appreciate the characters Thomas and Joan have created we have come to love together!

Starting Monday July 31st, Sanders Sides Appreciation Month will begin! It will span the course of FIVE weeks giving tribute to each of the separate characters in the order of their appearance.

July 31st-August 6th : Logan/Logic

August 7th-August 13th : Roman/Princey

August 14th-August 20th : Patton/Dad/Morality

August 21st-August 27th : Virgil/Anxiety

August 28th-September 3rd : Joan and Talyn (Because they do so much for Thomas!!!!!)

You can celebrate these characters in any way you want to! But, I have created a fun little project that is completely optional and will definitely make this month more entertaining.

(If you don’t like these sets of challenges, please feel free to make your own! After all, everything points back to the brilliance of Thomas and his friends anyways. This month is all about them and respecting and enjoying what they have created.)

On the sunday before each week starts I will post a series of optional challenges all relating to the character of the week! Each day will have a title, and then three challenges that correspond to the day. By no means do you have to do all three of them, but they are there so everyone has an option. This just helps everyone’s creative juices get flowing!

To demonstrate, I will post Logan’s Challenge Calendar for this coming week:

Day 1: Monday July 31st - The First Day of School (Introducing the teacher)

a. Describe Logan in only four words.

b. 10 Headcannons you personally have for Logan: Go!

c. Write a fic or draw art of what you think would happen on the first day of school if Logan happened to be your Teacher. (Go wild!)

Day 2: Tuesday August 1st - Trouble Makers

a. Detention with Logan! What does it look like?

b. Someone switched Logan’s clothes with one of the other sides! Hilarity is bound to ensue!

c. Before Logan became a Sander’s Side, he was just known as the teacher Character Thomas played in his vines. Which one of the vines Logan appeared in was your favorite and why?

Day 3: Wednesday August 2nd - The Heart behind the Mind

a. Watch Big Hero 6 or Atlantis: The Lost Empire Today! (Your choice)

b. Read a chapter of either Sherlock Holmes or the Murder of Roger Ackroyd. (Yes you may use sparknotes. Logan says otherwise, but I say its not cheating. :) )

c. Despite being the Logical Side, Logan does display some emotions, whether he knows it or not. Try writing a poem or fanfiction from Logan’s point of view about a moment in time where he tries to analyze his emotions and the meaning of them. Or you could draw picture depicting something along these lines.

Day 4: Thursday August 3rd - FINALS!

a. Write a one page essay MLA format about your favorite TV show/movie/video game/comic book and point out all the inconsistencies you find.

b. Create a Logan themed puzzle to share! (Could be a crossword or a word search or any other puzzle you can think of) Or you can just solve a puzzle in honor of Logan.

c. Write a fanfiction or create art about how Logan would act if it was final’s week. Would he be cool and collected? Or all over the place?

Day 5: Friday August 4th - Teacher Appreciation Day

a. Out of everything Logan has said, which of his quotes stick out the most to you and why?

b. Write a fanfiction or create art about how you show your appreciation to Logan on the last day of school.

c. Share a story in your life where a teacher helped you along the path of becoming a better person. So often we overlook the ‘Logans’ in our life, when many of them made us into who we are today.

Day 6: Saturday August 5th - Graduation

a. You invite Thomas and all of his sides to your graduation party! I wonder how that goes…

b. Logan goes on vacation! Where does he go?

c. Write a letter from the eyes of Logan, about how good you were in his classes. (*cough* or how bad *cough*)

Day 7: Sunday August 6th - The Real World

a. Wear a necktie all day!

b. If Logan wasn’t a teacher, what job would he have?

c. How will you say goodbye to Logan as your teacher? Maybe go out with a bang! Or draw Logan and Roman interacting somehow. Out with the old and in with the new. We sure will miss you…Logan.

When you post your challenge to your wall, all I ask is you put what day it is and which challenge you are doing followed by using the tag: #sanderssidesappreciationmonth .

On Monday, It will officially start! I really want to try to make this a thing on all social medias! Post it everywhere! Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, all using the same tag: #sanderssidesappreciationmonth Reblogs are greatly appreciated!

@thatsthat24  I love you and this is how I want to give back all the smiles and joy you have brought to all your lovely subscribers.

cry harder baby

In case anyone was wondering about the immediate, real world consequences of Trump’s idiocy. This is my former linguistics department, where I went to grad. school. And the worst part is there’s no counterargument. If a student asks, “Will I be able to safely study here in the United States?”, all we can do is lie, or tell the truth and say, “I don’t know. I hope so, but I don’t know.”

So much of the media discussion of Trump’s Muslim ban, both in US and international media, centers around issues of terrorism: offering statistics about the infinitesimal number of refugees who are involved in terrorist activity, and decrying the ban as something that’s likely to increase the numbers of people joining ISIS and other terrorist organizations. And all of that is true, and it’s important to call out Trump’s false claims. But here’s the thing. I think most of the media is missing the actual point of the Muslim ban.

It’s not about terrorism. It never has been. By allowing the narrative to be framed that way, even in our critiques of Trump, we’re conceding a vital point. We’re buying in to the narrative that this is about terrorism, and that we’re simply debating the proper response to it. It paints a picture in which protestors and liberal media outlets are unhappy with Trump’s response to the issue.

But that’s not it at all.

The truth is we’ve seen this before. A ban on people entering the country, based on religion and / or ethnicity, is the first step. Next will come the Muslim registry. There will be a quiet purging of all Muslim employees from government jobs. Persons listed in the Muslim registry will be monitored by police “for the protection of the public.” Discrimination in hiring practices in private companies will become first legal, then actively encouraged. Muslims will be first encouraged, then coerced, and finally forced to move into segregated areas, or perhaps into protected camps or detainment facilities. People will start disappearing.

That’s what this is about. The ban is about taking that first step. Talking about terrorism only serves to lend legitimacy to Trump’s claims that this is the primary issue. But it’s not. The issue here is a white supremacist administration that actively wants to purge undesirables.

anonymous asked:

I think the higher incarceration rate may be because now we have more ways to track down criminals (cameras fingerprints) not because police are just throwing people into jail.

Noooope. But lets do some math to be sure. All the statistics I will be using are from here, here, and here.

We’ll look at race first. The united states has 693 people in prison per 100,000. However if we quickly glance at the Incarceration in the United States page, we can see the incarceration rate broken down by race. While white people are incarcerated at a rate of  450 per 100,000, Hispanic people are incarcerated at almost double the rate ( 831 per 100,000) and black people at an astoundingly high rate of  2,306 per 100,000. So lets consider a hypothetical prison system that doesn’t  discriminate by race, we assume that the default incarceration rate for everyone is an equal 450 per 100,000. By doing that alone the United States falls from first place to 11th.

We can also look at the breakdown by crime committed. Around 22% of prisoners are in state and federal prison for non-violent drug related crimes. 22% of 450 is 99. So if drug usage was legalized, this further reduces the rate of incarceration to 351. The united states would then be in 24th place.

Even with these reductions, the incarceration rate is more than triple that of other equally developed countries, like France, the Uk, and Germany. Its more than 5 times that of Norway, the Netherlands and Denmark. All of these countries have comparable law enforcement technology to the united states.

These are just some quick estimates that take into account some readily available and easy to work with information. We haven’t even considered things like private prison profit incentives, private prison quotas, and public policy. Quoting from wikipedia, “ Violent crime was not responsible for the quadrupling of the incarcerated population in the United States from 1980 to 2003. Violent crime rates had been relatively constant or declining over those decades. The prison population was increased primarily by public policy changes causing more prison sentences and lengthening time served, e.g. through mandatory minimum sentencing, “three strikes” laws, and reductions in the availability of parole or early release. 49 percent of sentenced state inmates were held for violent offenses. Perhaps the single greatest force behind the growth of the prison population has been the national “War on Drugs.” ”

So no, more technology being available hasn’t resulted in the United State’s insane incarceration rates. Institutional racism, a bullshit “war on drugs”, and vindictive laws that line the pockets of private prisons are. Don’t let ideology fool you, the United States is objectively one of the least free countries.

Having a well thought out strategy is the alpha and omega of each movement. This account was created in order for each one of us to move in coordination. Numbers are nothing without a structure and this is what we are bringing. We are creating a calendar. Each week we will have a different hashtag to trend worldwide and a new task to complete. This will take away the confusion and we can unite in battle. If we all stick to the same schedule, it will be much easier to hit and hurt.
