Barack Obama: A presidency in pictures

Barack Obama has reached the end of his consequential eight-year presidency. As the nation’s first African-American commander in chief and his wife prepare to leave the White House behind, Yahoo News takes you through his two terms — the exultation over the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the heartbreak of the massacre of children in Newtown, Conn., the tumultuous implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the controversial Iran nuclear deal, the outreach to Cuba, and many other signal moments and policies.

There are also many quiet, behind-the-scenes snapshots, family time with first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia, and the unforgettable photo of the little boy who asked to touch the president’s hair. Through triumph and tragedy, these are some of the moments that exemplified the Obama era. (Olivier Knox/Yahoo News)

Jim Brown to John Lewis: 'Don’t cry the blues' on Donald Trump

Jim Brown, one of the sports world’s most notable civil rights crusaders, took aim Wednesday at another legend of the movement: Rep. John Lewis.

“John Lewis has great history as a civil rights fighter,” Brown said on CNN. “As a young man, he was one of the guys out there who was leading the parades during the (Martin Luther) King (Jr.) era. So, we all respect his history. But then I hear him crying the blues about Mr. Trump and saying he’s an illegitimate president, I take offense to that. If it’s illegitimate, why is he going on?”

IDF enters 'new era' with operational Arrow-3 missile defense system - 18 January 2017

The IDF on Wednesday received the operational Arrow-3 anti-ballistic missile interceptor, in a move that the Defense Ministry described as bringing the military into a “new era” of missile defense.
In a formal ceremony on Wednesday morning, the ministry’s Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) division transferred the operational system to the IDF.
“The Arrow-3 development program, one of the joint programs between Israel and the United States, was exceptionally co-managed by the US Missile Defense Agency and IMDO,” the ministry said in a statement.
