“In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields, and lovely flowers, and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’ That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something. The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. The Conservative party just successfully passed a measure that will ban organization like city councils and student unions from boycotting goods made in illegal Israeli settlements because tories claim such boycotts foster ill will and anti-semitism. Not only is this move another display of Tory disregard for human rights violations, but it is also an attack on basic personal freedoms which could set a precedent for future incursions on civil liberties. Regardless of what side of the debate you’re on, all citizens of the U.K. need to realize that this is ban is monumental and potentially devastating in terms of longevity, and a considerable a mouth of debate/backlash is in order.
