Angelina Jolie, the Oscar winning actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, meets with children in a refugee camp. Angelina spent two days visiting Oure Cassoni, a refugee camp outside Bahai, Chad, 2007, close to the Darfur border. Almost 27,000 refugees live there and it was opened in 2004.
While filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Cambodia (2001) Angelina Jolie began visiting refugee camps around the world. A few months later she was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. Since then, Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees in more than 20 countries.
“We cannot close ourselves off to information and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering. I honestly want to help. I don’t believe I feel differently from other people. I think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning.
