I Heart the Avocado on Flickr.

The other night I was telling A about how all four of my avocado pits had cracked open and started growing roots when I happened upon a burning question: how would my current tree ever cross-pollinate without flowers?  Do avocado trees even grow flowers?

Well yes, in fact, they do, said the internet.  I spent a few days feeling very sorry for my barren little tree until I stumbled upon another avocado fact.  House-bound plants won’t produce flowers for at least 7-15 years, if that.  If memory serves, mine sprouted in 2000.  What are the odds that we get some flowers in the next 3 years?
