Review: Shu Uemura Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil

This is a sample I got from Shu Uemura a few months ago. They gave coupons for free beauty makeovers and product samples as a way to promote the Japanese beauty brand to the Filipino consumers. Thanks Shu Uemura!

I’ve been curious what the hype is all about. Some bloggers call this cleansing oil their holy grail makeup remover. It’s great I get to try it out without purchasing the full size because it’s not exactly cheap.

The sample had 4ml of product, good for 3-4 days of usage, depending on how much would be needed to remove the makeup.

The consistency is very thin and watery. As for the scent, while I can’t compare it to any that I’m familiar with, I highly dislike it, especially when the oil is already on my face.

For 2 days, I used the cleansing oil to remove my work/weekend makeup—my face primer, sunblock, bb cream, concealer, mascara, brow pencil, and lipstick.

After gently rubbing the cleansing oil on my dry face, both my (non-waterproof) mascara and bb cream dissolved effortlessly. I subsequently washed everything off with water and pat dry with a facial cloth.

While the cleansing oil didn’t leave my face feeling dry or tight, it also didn’t provide enough moisture. I say this as someone who has been using Etude House’ Real Art Cleansing Oil in Deep Moisture for 3 months now (but that’s for another review).

Minutes after cleansing, I noticed a couple of red bumps forming on my chin and on my cheeks. This happened again the second time I used the cleansing oil, so decided to discontinue using it. I could have given it another chance, but I have little tolerance when dealing with products that break me out because acne has been my perennial skin problem.

So, does it live up to the hype? Not really. While it does what a good cleansing oil should do, relative to other effective cleansing oils in the market, the Ultime8 Cleansing Oil is overpriced (USD90 for a 400ml bottle!). Plus, this cleansing oil made me breakout, and breaking out can’t be good news.

Ultime8

its been a while since i have purchased shu uemura products (excluding brushes). i used to be addicted to their cleansing oil for years, then i got an allergic reaction and stopped using it for a while (5 years), but recently i noticed they have a new product ultime8. i will let you all know how it goes a few more months down the track. but after a week i have nothing to say except…i shouldnt have stopped using their cleansing oils. its FAB. so while i was at the store i also picked up their brush cleaner. this product is amazing. hands down the best cleaner i have used. i have been using the laura mercier brush cleanser, which is also pretty good, but the shu uemura is really really fast at removing EVERYTHING
