ugly privilege

ugly person privilege is being able to be in the closet longer cuz ur family doesnt question why u arent bringing back boys anjkfsanjkgnkfds

Since some folks cannot seem to shake the asinine assumption that queerness & blackness are mutually exclusive, lemme shout it out for ya.

real ‘ugly privilege’:

 - getting asked out/confessed to as a joke bc apparently it’s funny to see if the ugly person is desperate enough to believe it

- literally having nobody take even a second glance at you

 - never ever being liked or crushed on, ever

 - feeling out of place bc all your friends are gorgeous and then there’s you

 - being expected to dress blandly because you’re apparently too ugly to dress nicely and with confidence

 - afraid of being judged or looked at. all. the. frickin. time.

 - people telling you “it’s what’s on the inside that counts uwu” but you know you’re ugly and you hate it

 - having no self-esteem because what are you gonna do, wear a ski mask? it’s kinda hard to go around without showing your face or body

- being afraid or nervous in face-to-face contact

On Ugly Gods

My favorite Greek god may come as a shock to some. The usual favorites are Zeus, Aphrodite. Maybe even Apollo or Athena. Someone flashy, beautiful. Maybe with a blazing chariot; everyone loves a good ride. But no.

My favorite Greek god is Hephaestus.

For those of you who didn’t study Greek Mythology (or did but forgot this name because it wasn’t important at the time), Hephaestus was the smith god, the god of metallurgy. He was also the god who, upon birth, was thrown from Mt. Olympus by his mother for being “crippled” and too unsightly for even his own family’s godly eyes. Or, if you prefer, there is a second branch in the mythology which explains his disability that contradicts the Hera-threw-him-overboard story: he tried protecting her from the advances of Zeus, and Zeus threw him off the mountain. Either way, everyone agrees he was thrown from the heavens by an all-mighty monarch. Hard. (And that he was no Apollo.)

But, Hephaestus was the smith of the gods. He built Zeus’s and Hera’s thrones. He built Eros’s bow and arrows. He crafted Hermes’ sandals and helmet. He made Aphrodite’s girdle and the chariot that carried the sun across the sky. The fire that Prometheus stole and gave to humanity came from his forge. Everything that made the gods what they were, he had a hand in building. His fingerprints cover the heavens.

It’s sometimes the unseen, the disregarded, the unacknowledged, the ugly gods, that make the strongest impacts on the world. History pays much more attention to the people sitting on the throne, shooting the arrows, or dragging the chariot across the sky than the people or systems that made those things possible. No one does anything alone, and no one can claim that their success and/or power is entirely their own. We all have our ugly gods in the background, for better or worse, helping to forge our positions in this world.

And it’s our job to celebrate the good and navigate the bad, no matter how uncomfortable that may be.

i just laughed when #feministsareugly trended on twitter bc like….you’re literally just proving our point, you’re feeding into the misogynistic view that girls only exist to be pretty and that if they’re not pretty, anything they have to say is worthless…like ???

Just out of curiosity, why is Logan your favourite of Rory's boyfriends in Gilmore Girls?

Oh boy, have you opened the floodgates. Rory/Logan was one of my first OTPs, so, this is like 12 years of attachment. Here we go.

First off, things I won’t tackle in this post in-depth: Logan vs. other boyfriends (because I don’t have the energy for shipwars & the like), or Logan in the revival (because to me, that wasn’t the Logan I know and thus I refused to accept it as canon).

Now, here we really go :)

Rory enters Season 5 in a weird place. She’s back to dating Dean and she’s trying to build up her professional life at the same time; basically she’s in a rut that she can’t get out of. She knows it, and she’s trying to gun herself out of it, but she keeps slipping back. And maybe she isn’t trying as hard as she could, because a rut is also comfortable and Rory has never liked change. She likes the familiar, and Dean is familiar. Writing is also familiar to her, and so she gets complacent (investigating illegally downloading music is so 2004, Rory.)

Being an official member of the Yale Daily News requires more from her. Her life at Yale and outside of Stars Hollow now requires more of her (attention, time, interest, energy, commitment, etc). She can’t exist in her old life and her new life at the same time, and overall, season 5 is her finding that out.

Then in walks Logan. Smart-mouthed, smug, privileged, quick-witted, attractive boy–just like the ones her mother always warned her about. And–because of that, and because she’s Rory–she doesn’t give him an inch. From their first real conversation, she has his number, and to her extreme surprise, he has hers. Their banter is almost as fast-paced as her and Lorelai’s. He challenges her, pushes her buttons, makes her think–he appeals to her intellect right from the beginning, and that is something Rory can’t resist.

How many "eras" of tumblr have you been here for? What fandoms and or political ideas have you seen rise and fall? (I'm trying to keep record of tumblr history because I'm a nerd)

sj on tumblr was originally dominated with an iron (and abusive) fist by a person named riley and their associates until most of the site involved in that kind of ting managed to get smarter than riley’s group and realize how ugly it all was. most of them are on twitter now but a few either jumped ship completely or are still here with no real control over the weak-minded and impressionable anymore lol. during this time i just reblogged pixel art and whatever tv series i was watching and my blog was tiny. i was just a humble observer. this lasted from 2010 to 2014. i had a tumblr account since 2008 but didn’t start using it until 2012.

i saw the rise of privilege politics in the form of checklists, cultural appropriation politics, every popular sj talking point. the good, the bad, the ugly. people would make privilege checklists like build a bear workshops and everything was ten times worse than how people tend to talk now.

people here got into postmodernism in like 2013 without actually knowing what it is or how rigorous of a study it is and we got some ugly trans politics for a little while (some of it is still around but it’s not that bad and there are some smart pomos out there lol).

cathy brennan, terfs, a bunch of weird psychopaths who really liked feminism and larping lesbian separatist communes that they were too socially stunted to create. they were ten times worse in 2012 than they are now which is saying something. still pretty looney.

baeddels in 2013-2014. funny as hale but a big mess. reminded me a lot of riley and co’s antics.

stupid dumb ass trans politics where equally insular internet communities argued with each other. all of them were a waste.

shiri eisner and ‘monosexual privilege’ debauchery. think that was a 2012-2014 thing for the most part. people on here may try to claim otherwise but this is the birthplace of the kind of asexual politics that get people up in arms. they just took monosexual privilege checklists and replaced monosexual with allosexual and asexual with bi/pansexual. Insightful and Intelligent.

i lived thru the dangan ronpa craze in 2013. i played the first one and got 1/3 thru the second before i realized how gay it all was and how i was jus reading it based on hype alone. Despairkomaeda

i regret to say i read h*mestuck for 6 months and stopped reading it for the same reasons as above. i lived when i found out the money that was for some h*mestuck game kickstarter got finessed and used for some other shyt by the company set to produce it.

edgy glitter feminist misandry.

lots of popular male humor bloggers were outed as predators and abusers.

dumbass nonbinary petition to the whitehouse.

jobhaver was and is a lot smarter than most people here. follow her on twitter.

african diaspora and african national fights. these got really bloody.

obama is our savior and critiquing him is antiblack vs obama is a violent imperialist shut up. the latter team rightfully won obviously.

every white man who appeared on a fictional show had thousands of geeky social recluse worshippers who were too afraid to make phone calls but had no problem telling people to die and this defined tumblr and this is still the general vibe of the site.

descendants of enslaved africans have ‘american privilege’ by virtue of being born there and people believed this with no sense of irony.

people thought african immigrants were stealing black american jobs.

riley called the entire h*mestuck fanbase dumb and racist and got into a big fight with them. iconic moment

Do transmen (females) act as entitled as transwomen (males)?? Do transmen throw tantrums if a gay cis man isn't attracted to their sex?? Cause i notice a lot of transwomen are rearing their ugly male privileged heads at lesbians who dont want to sleep with males.

No they don’t. I’ve never seen a post of trans men getting mad at cis men for not wanting to donate their testes to them, or getting mad at cis gay men for having a ‘vagina repulsed penis-fetish’ that they need to ‘unlearn’. I mean, have you ever seen a trans man go on and on about how cis gay men are transphobic, or give 14 year old gay men tips on how to find female bodies arousing because ‘not all sex is PIV’? No.

They think we’re just attacking trans women, but it’s literally just an observation. The way trans women act towards people is way different than how trans men act towards people, especially female people.

We can’t help but think about male socialization.

Hard Life

It’s a hard life;
Work my ass off just to pay the bills,
Any extra cash? Pay for heat for the chills.

It’s a hard life;
Go through shit, try and buy some happiness,
But the money and work is making me lifeless.

It’s a hard life;
Seeing those people who are given it all,
From their moms and paps at the end of a call.

It’s a hard life;
Without the ugly privilege of living the streets,
No one truly knows how cruel life can be.

The Official 'Ugly Azalea Is Scum' Post

*cracks knuckles*

Okay stans, let’s go.

Ugly Azalea is clearly trying to emulate Black girls, especially Black girls in the South, that dress a certain way: bright colors and high-end designers (like the Real Housewives or Love and Hip Hop chicks), along with Black female artists like Nicki, Rihanna, and Beyonce who dress in more upscale, fashionable designs. Not to mention the way this bitch does her hair and makeup SCREAMS Nicki. They literally remade Nicki with a white girl. And a lot of people have made the point that this is ironic because Nicki originally emulated Kim.

She’s using her white privilege to get ahead and people have the right to be offended, especially when Black female rappers with more skills can’t get on. She gets on because of her skin color even tho she does things *regular* Black women do. And since she is white, she is called exceptional. And everyone acting like Ugly ISNT *acting Black* because she isn’t wearing ‘baggy urban wear’ or a bunch of gold chains, etc. is ridiculous and offensive.

Acting Black isnt just about dress. Her mannerisms, the words and slang she uses, and the lyrical content of her songs all insinuate that she is trying to replicate the Black American experience, which she did not grow up in and is not a part of. She pretending to be some hard ass bitch from the South when she’s not.

Her hips and ass are both completely fake and it is entirely out of the realm of naturalness FOR HER BODY TYPE. Not to mention in the ‘Fancy’ video during the gym scene she has no body whatsoever.

She clearly wants to look a certain way, and we all know white girls with bodies are seen as an anomaly and are therefore elevated above *regular* Black and Hispanic chicks. It’s not rocket science to see what’s going on here. They are modeling this white girl after Black and Hispanic girls in urban culture to give her an edge. Same shit as Miley Cyrus.

She puts on a fake ass accent to rap but speaks in her normal Australian voice. If she had honestly just ‘picked it up’ as people claim, the influence would be evident in both her speaking AND rapping voice. But this is a caricature, like a character she switches on and off. NOTHING genuine about it. Rap in your damn Australian voice, who cares if it would ‘sound crazy?’ You want to rap, right? You claim you’re the realest, right? So BE real and rap in your real voice. Stop with the AAVE slang, stop with the voice imitating Diamond from Crime Mob. Because that’s what it is, an imitation, and it gets under people’s skin.

Take her song, ‘Murda Bizness,’ for example: she spelled it with just an ‘I,’ not the full word. She also used a ‘z’ not a ‘s,’ and dropped the ‘-er’ from ‘Murder,’ substituting it with an ‘a.’ This is all emulating Black slang and speech patterns:

‘Hit the club
With bad bitches
Stackin’ hundreds
Bunch of 50’s
Super Clean
Fo sho’ get em
Hit the scene, kill shit
We in the murda Bizness’

Nothing but AAVE slang and crude language. Literally everything she talks about are fucking hood topics. Money, sex, bad bitches, clubs, popping bottles, ‘being better than other hoes’- the language and colloquialisms in and of themselves are hood language that she jacked from Black people.

She illegally immigrated overseas at 16 to be a pop star and tricked her way through the South until she and whoever she was with came up with this brilliant rap plan. The hooker/escort pics are all over the Internet along with the demo for her initial video:

People do not care that she’s white, as other fonts have said, people love Eminem, Action Bronson, Yelawolf, Machine Gun Kelly… Hell, I liked Kreayshawn, I thought she was very authentic. What people don’t like is that she’s a fake. She’s an untalented hack that can’t rap and has a machine of ghostwriters and Black men behind her pushing her to be some idealized version of the *down* white chick that’s rapping.

She’s a foreigner who is making money off of the Black American experience that she has literally had no experience with and is simply imitating what WE actually live. It’s disrespectful, especially at a time where Ferguson is going on and we are persecuted for the very thing she is making money off of: being Black.

She should be extremely relatable, if only for the simple fact that everyone knows what it’s like to feel different at one point or another. But she’s not. She has a nasty, entitled attitude. She has a habit of completely ignoring her whiteness as a vehicle for her success (at least Macklemore admitted he had white privilege) and instead insists other Black artists should just *come harder,* like the fact that she’s white hasn’t made it easier for her to cross over into mainstream success or garnered her the support of COLORSTRUCK niggas who think anything light with a fat ass is right.

Not to mention she has certainly gotten chance after chance to succeed (for example: multiple high-budget music videos even tho she couldn’t get a hit single to save her life) and refuses to admit it’s because she’s whte. She claims she’s the realest but everything about her is fake: accent, body, even style of music.

She is in one of the hardest arenas for proving yourself (rap/hip-hop) but is hypersensitive, whining and complaining about things that don’t go her way, crying on socia media when people criticize her. She doesn’t freestyle, rap battle, or have yet to prove any of her haters wrong when it comes to claims that she can’t rap or that other ppl write her stuff. She’s a fucking fraud.

And none of this even MENTIONED her racist rants about Asians and Mexicans or feeling like she should be able to say the word ‘nigga’ because ‘it means an ignorant person.’

White Mom’s Lawsuit Over Black Baby Exposes Ugly Truths About White Privilege

The whole this is so disgusting and anti-black I can’t even deal. They have the nerve to say it’s “not about race” and yet, they’re suing the sperm bank because they’re “stressed” about raising a black child. That’s right. They’re friends, family and neighborhood is racist they don’t feel safe raising their daughter there and now they have to move! Oh no! (cause you can just move cities and escape racism don’t ya know) Here’s what blows my mind and shows how anti-black and stupid they are. They were TOTALLY OK with being surrounded by racists until they had a black kid. NOW they’re concerned?! That’s some cluless Kim Kardasian “I didn’t know racism still existed” logic huh? Cause if their kid was white they wouldn’t have had any problem raising them around racists. I mean…

The thing that upsets me the most about the whole thing is how thirsty they are for the spotlight and how it’s at the complete detriment to that little girl. Yes, the sperm bank messed up and they have grounds for a medical malpractice suit, but there’s no reason for them to be doing tv interviews and crying on national tv. I can’t help but think of how crushed that little girl is going to be when she gets older and sees her parents all over the news crying because they got a black kid instead of a white one. If they really loved her, they wouldn’t be making this a public spectacle and instead would quietly file a malpractice suit, put the money towards her education and move the hell on. I really feel for that little girl.
