“A hospital alone shows what war is.”

-All Quiet on the Western Front

I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS ABOUT SUGAWARA KOUSHI AND THE DATEKO MATCH BECAUSE this is it THIS IS THE MATCH where the team almost lost Asahi, the match that broke up the third years and shook Sugawara’s confidence so much that he was RELIEVED when Kageyama came along to take his spot because he thought that this match defined his talent. He thought his toss wasn’t good enough because Asahi couldn’t get through the spikers. And FINALLY they have a chance at revenge and the whole time

YUI NOTICES HE’S ON THE BENCH. SHE PROBABLY SAW THE LAST GAME BECAUSE SHE MENTIONS REVENGE LATER ON SO SHE KNOWS HOW IMPORTANT THIS MATCH IS. SHE KNOWS AND STILL.

So Sugawara is reduced to losing it on the sidelines while the whole Asahi regaining his confidence thing is going on.

THE WHOLE TIME HE’S LOSING IT. AND THEN AND THEN GUESS WHAT GUESS WHAT HTE FUCK WHAT WHEN KAGEYAMA IS GIVING ASAHI HIS GAME WINNING TOSS GUESS WHO TAUGHT HIM WHAT TOSS ASAHI LIKES BEST. THAT’S RIGHT, SUGAWARA FUCKING KOUSHI FIGHTING FROM THE SIDELINES, DOING ANYTHING IT TAKES TO GET HIS FRIENDS TO WIN EVEN IF HE CAN’T FIGHT ALONGSIDE THEM.

SO THEN they win the game and everyone goes on and on about how Karasuno finally got their revenge and Suga is super happy and all but of course he isn’t a robot he’s got feelings about the fact that while Daichi and Asahi got to settle their scores on the court he didn’t get to do that. And as gratifying as it is to see your friends succeed it’s still got to sting a  little so he says:

And this WHOLE MATCH FUCKING SAYS EVERYTHING ABOUT SUGA AND I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT HIM because he does get a bit down about not being able to fight alongside his friends on the court as most people would but Daichi is right, he still wants to fight. It stings and he doesn’t resent Kageyama and right now he’s looking to fight anyway he can even if it’s through Kageyama but the point is, he STILL WANTS TO FIGHT EVEN THOUGH AT THIS POINT IN TIME HE’S NOT NECESSARY TO THEM WINNING. EVEN THROUGH THAT DISCOURAGEMENT AND HIS FRIENDS MOVING AHEAD WITHOUT HIM, HE STILL WANTS TO FIGHT. and i want to cry

I've been reading some comments on my livestream before the episode and someone said that they don't like Arya because she "hasn't done enough". Now I read a critic saying that Brienne loving Jaime weakens her character. After this and years of reading Sansa and Cat hate I've had enough. Seriously, what does female character have to do to deserve to be liked and respected, what should Arya do to be enough? A man breathes and is fawned over,a woman has one choice they don't like and now she's weak.

(Note: this will contain generalizations as all topics like this do.)

Ugh this is my issue with treatment of female characters. They are always hated on for something. There’s always people that find reasons to hate on them. This is why in all my defense of female characters’ posts, I never bring up other female characters as counterexamples. It just fuels the fire.

Like if I use Dany and her experiences to illustrate why calling Arya a sociopath is crazy… it just leads to more unjustifiable hatred of Dany.

It’s so frustrating to see people use the faults and flaws of other female characters to attack them in order to prop their own. I have written defense posts on Arya, Sansa, Dany, and others and they never involved tearing down other female characters. It’s not hard to differentiate really. Not everything needs to be a contest. We don’t prove Tyrion is awesome by tearing down Jaime. We don’t illustrate Jon’s strengths by attacking Samwell. It’s wholly unnecessary to do so. And counterproductive when facing sexism in treatment of female characters really.

Catelyn, Cersei, Asha, Arya, Dany, Sansa, Brienne, people will find reasons to hate on the female characters rather than their male counterparts for reasons that could easily be applied (but aren’t) to the male ones.

And let’s get one thing clear- love isn’t a weakness specific to female characters or other such nonsense. Love/sex/sensuality, it’s a part of the human experience. The characters are meant to be human, they would be less if they never dealt with this in any way. This is the fallacy of female characters- they can be strong and loving, they can be love interests and heroes, they can be feminine in some ways and unfeminine in others, they can be everything and anything because humans are multidimensional.

Seriously, what does female character have to do to deserve to be liked and respected?

Generally speaking, female characters have always been viewed suspiciously by fandoms. By that I mean that there is this weird assumption that female characters have to earn their place, they have to earn our support/appreciation, they have to earn the right for us to be interested in them. They are viewed under a microscope as a result. Male characters have to earn our dislike. Female characters are unworthy until proven otherwise, while male ones tend to be the opposite by default.

The best example is the notion of the fictions “Mary Sue” of course.

Whatever Arya could just breathe on screen, and I’d be cheering for her twice as loudly as any other character to be honest.
