It had been almost 2 week since the day I landed myself with a concussion. Not to mention the last I’d seen Luke too. I remember waking up around seven that night to find the spot beside me lifeless and cold. For a minute it left me with an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach but I knew Luke had no choice but to leave before Luca came home to find the boy whom he befriends years ago only to be backstabbed by sharing the same bed with his little sister.
I remember that night almost 4 years ago when both of them were in their first year of high school. I can still see the hurt on my brother’s face as he told the story of how Luke went behind his back to my parents while I watched silently from the stairs trying not to be seen or heard. He told them how Luke told everyone his most kept secret, one that Luca accidentally let slip from between his lips after getting drunk with Luke. You see my brother was one of the most known people at our high school and the same will ,most likely, continue when he goes off to university in September. But he always made sure to keep this secret of his from everyone but my parents. Not even I was suppose to hear it.
“He told everyone that I was gay,” I remembered him say. By then both my parents knew about Luca’s sexuality and of course they were supportive of him no matter what. Though Luca wasn’t the stereotypical gay boy who goes around shopping with his four girl friends buying six dollars worth of Starbucks coffee. He was one of the school’s jocks, always going to parties and grinding on girls just like any regular teenage boy.
I still remember him staying home from school that year for almost three days straight before my mom told him he had to go back or else he’d start falling behind. The day he returned back everyone would stare and whisper whenever he passed by until he had enough and practically announced to the school that he was straight and to prove it he’s had more girlfriends than I could count. It was obvious though that every single one he was with he hated himself for it. He could never be happy with a girl because they weren’t the kind of person who he could love.
“Hey,” I chimed walking into the kitchen to poor myself some orange juice with my brother over the stove cooking up some eggs.
“Want any?” He asked but I declined telling him I had things to do today. “And what would those things of yours include?”
I gave him a small shrug, “Just gonna take the longboard out.” It was almost humorous how he immediately stopped what he was doing to turn and give me a look of disapproval. “Come one, it’s been 2 weeks since I last hopped on my board.”
“And you can wait 2 more weeks.” Luca instructed turning back to his eggs before letting out a sigh of defeat. “Okay fine, but just promise me you won’t get yourself hurt.”
“I promise.” I smiled grabbing my Keds and heading outside.
I somehow managed to find myself standing outside of Geno’s. Part of me was pulling myself to the ally in hopes that Luke would be there but I denied myself from it knowing it wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do especially if Jai was there.
Instead I walked inside the quaint restaurant and took a seat at one of the empty booths. There were only 5 other people here considering it wasn’t even lunch yet.
“Hello there, hon.” A waitress with curly red hair that fell to her shoulders smiled at me.
I smiled back at her, “Hey Sally.”
“The usual?” She asked me but I declined telling her a coffee would be all for today. Sally quickly made her way back to the kitchen to prepare it. She returned in less than two minutes with a steaming cup and a box of sugar and cream packets. I thanked her once she set the coffee in front of me before leaving me to my lonesome self. Putting in my usual two creams two sugars, I turned my attention to the door just as a familiar figure strolled in.
“Luke,” I smiled when he turned his head in my direction. Just as I was about to wave him over Jai, Rowan and Tyse filled into the restaurant behind Luke. I watched as the four of them took the table that was on the other side of the restaurant from mine though Luke was facing me. I exchanged a confused glance at him but he shrugged it off like sitting with the three people who beat him up only two weeks ago was a normal thing.
I didn’t take my eyes off him the entire time I sat there sipping my coffee. Staying seated in the booth after finishing, I waited as Jai, Rowan and Tyse all got up and left, leaving Luke by himself.
Instantly, I got up from where I was and crossed the restaurant to steal one of the now three empty chairs. I decided on the one that faced Luke directly.
“Blowing me off for Jai?” I raised my eyebrows being half sarcastic half hurt. “Nice to see where you put me on the roster of people you want to hang out with.”
“You can’t be here.” Luke told me harshly though I could tell he regretted his tone after saying what he said.
“So you blow me off for two weeks and once we finally get the chance to reunite you pretty much tell me to get lost.” I nodded my head pretending like it all made sense. “Nice.”
“Hey, I didn’t see you making any moves to come hangout with me.” He countered.
“Well sorry that I got a concussion and wasn’t allowed to leave my house.” Both of us noticed our voices gradually getting louder as we felt the eyes from the other people on us.
“Ella,” Luke breathed out my name. As angry as I was at him I couldn’t help but let my heart flutter at the sound of him sighing out my name making me hate myself for it. “I don’t think we should see each other anymore.”
I was so taken aback by his words that the only thing that came out of my mouth was, “Excuse me.”
Luke looked down at his hands that he had resting on the table laced together. I noticed how he couldn’t meet my gaze while telling me that as if it pained him as much as it pained me.
All I could do was sit there and stare pass Luke to the wall. Nothing made sense and the worst part was that I didn’t know how to fix it. I didn’t know how long I was sitting there for, the only thing I remembered was the sound of the chair scrapping against the tiled floor and Luke’s footsteps padding to the door, the bell chiming signalling he was gone.
Jai’s word played over and over again in my brain as I left Ella at Geno’s. There was no doubt I was now crowned the number one douche bag in her books.
She’s dead. Jai told me. My girlfriend, the only person I’ve ever loved is dead.
I winced remembering his harsh words directed at me.
And I know you had something to do with it, His face was so close to mine that he could probably smell my fear off my breath though I didn’t show it. Do you want to know how I know it was you? Before I could answer he spat out, Because a little birdy told me you were the last person to be with her before she was killed. Stabbed, His finger jabbed into my chest right over the heart. Right there, He muttered.
I remember telling him almost twenty times that I had nothing to do with it. That yes I did see her last night but she was my supplier and I was running low. I could swear on the bible in court that I had no reason to kill her and that I didn’t.
Watch your back, Hemmings. He spat. Because I’m coming for the one person you care for most and it won’t be for a fun night out.
You did the right thing, I told myself. Pushing Ella out of your life so she won’t get hurt.
A/N: Oh the drama… lol so ya hopefully you’re still enjoying it! I should have Chapter 7 up either late tonight (around 11pm EST Toronto) so ya stay tuned ;) and please definitely heart and reblog if you enjoyed it bc it does help me out so much! Thank you :)
There was no doubt in my mind that last nights sleep was the worst sleep I’ve had in my entire life. I might be lucky if I even got a full 2 hours. Thanks to Luke filling my mind with questions and even a little guilt, sleep didn’t come easy to me.
I finally forced my exhausted body out of bed and quickly tugged on some blue high wasted shorts, pairing it with a loose striped long sleeve to hide the scars from last and previous nights. Picking up a ponytail off my nightstand, I flung my hair lazily up in some sort of messy hairdo that I would have to fix later on in the day. After doing a double check in the mirror to make sure I looked alright I made my way downstairs finding my living room still littered with red plastic cups and even a few discarded clothing items do to the party last night.
Luca was sitting at the island with a bowl of what looked like Captain Crunch while playing on his phone.
“Seemed like quite the party.” I mumbled, walking over to the fruit bowl and picking up an apple to eat.
“Shoulda’ joined us.” He told me without taking his eyes off his phone. “You never know, you may have enjoyed yourself.”
I let out a quiet snort taking a bite into the deep red apple. “Not even if I had 6 shots of tequila.” Luca only shrugged still not giving me his full attention as he continued to scroll through whatever interested him on his phone. I studied him for a second letting my body lean against the island opposite to him. “Did you know Luke was at the party last night." At that, he stopped whatever he was doing on his phone and looked at me with one eyebrow raised. "I didn’t realize the two of you were friends again.” I continued but this time he was the one to snort.
“I don’t know who told him about it but he definitely didn’t get any personal invite from me.” He murmured going back to his phone before turning it off completely and looking up at me. “I thought you said you were in your room all night anyways.”
“I was,” I agreed. “But I guess it’s been so long since the two of you were friends that he forgot where the bathroom was.” I paused for a moment before adding, “That or he was drunk which I wouldn’t be surprised. Anyways, he walked into my room, had a nice little chat.” My voice was strained with sarcasm at the last bit of the comment.
“Hey, don’t listen to whatever that jerk has to say.” Luke told me sincerely. “He’s nothing but a dick who doesn’t have a filter.”
I gave him a small smile before both of us turned our attention back to our breakfast. The silence wasn’t awkward but it wasn’t comfortable either. There was still one more thing I wanted to ask him. “Do you perhaps know where Luke hangs out around?”
Luca eyed me warily letting out a long sigh as he dropped his spoon back into the bowl of cereal. “Whatever you want to get out of him probably isn’t worth it.” He told me but shook his head once he saw the look of desperation filling my eyes. “I sometimes see him behind Geno’s with some other guys smoking." I nodded my head taking in the information before turning to head to the door. "Ella?” My brother called out to me. I swiftly turned seeing that my brother was watching me from where he sat. “Be careful.”
I made it to Geno’s in record time as I hopped off my longboard and dragged it behind me on it’s back wheels. I picked it off the ground fully tucking it under my arm once I heard voices coming from the ally way between Geno’s and a small music shop. Making sure I didn’t make a sound, I poked my head around the corner finding Luke with 3 other guys; all though it looked like anything but a peaceful smoke break.
“Don’t lie to me, Hemmings,” The man looked to be around Luke’s age, if not older. He fell at least 5 inches shorter than Luke but he was built like a wrestler. His dark hair that was pushed backwards into a burgundy beanie made made his European skin look darker than what it actually was. His sleeves that were pushed halfway up his arms showing off his sleeve of tattoos that ran all the way down to his fingers. The two other men standing on either side of him were both about Luke’s height. The one was all legs and lanky while the other could have been Dawyne Johnson for all I cared.
“Look Jai, I don’t know where you got the idea that I slept with your girl last night but I didn’t, okay?” Luke made slow gestures with his hands as if they were a bunch of rabid dogs that he was trying to calm. “So lets just forget about this and have a little smoke with each other.”
The dark haired European who was called Jai nodded his head to where the so-called Dawyne Johnson was standing, gesturing for him to move forward. Dawyne Johnson grabbed Luke by the neck and pushed him harshly against the brick wall of Geno’s. “Do you actually think I’m stupid, Hemmo?” Jai asked pacing back and forth before stopping and inching forwards towards Luke who was now struggling for breath. “Cammy told me you forced her into bed or else you’d take your gun to her and put a bullet right threw her pretty blue eyes.”
I stared at the scene in front of me as though it was a dream. I felt sick to my stomach and knew that if someone saw me they’d ask if I needed to go to the hospital. And yet I couldn’t peel my eyes from what was happening, like something was telling me that I was needed here in case something goes awfully wrong.
“Confess it, Hemmings.” Jai spat. “Say you did it and all of this will be over.”
I watched Luke anxiously not sure what he would do though he stayed perfectly silent, not even trying to struggle free from Dawyne Johnsons hold.
“Rowan,” Jai nodded towards the lanky one who was smiling mischievously beside him. “Help Tyse with Luke.”
I felt like time had slowed for a moment as I watched in horror as Tyse threw Luke to the ground like he was a rag doll. Luke took a kick to the gut from Rowans’ horse like legs that I was sure sent shock waves threw the city.
“Stop!” I cried out realizing that I was halfway down the ally with my longboard still in my hand. At that moment I felt my body cave in on itself. What am I doing? I asked myself. These kids could just flick me and it would send me all the way to China. I took a deep breath trying to gain all the bravery I had.
“Well, well.” Jai clicked his tongue as he studied me from head to toe. “What do we have here?” There was no doubt that his smirk was one of those smirks that you wanted to punch off his face.
“Ella,” Luke breathed out my name like he was taking a breath. I turned my attention to him for a second before focusing back on the three other guys.
“You two know each other?” Jai didn’t need an answer to that question already knowing it was a yes. I watched as he moved closer to me, so close that I felt the need to take at least three steps back. Jai picked up a piece of my honey coloured hair that must have fallen from its messy pony and twirled it around his chubby short fingers. “Now you look like fun.” His smile was anything but playful. It made another wave of nausea come crashing into me.
“Don’t touch her.” Luke gritted from between his teeth. Jai turned his attention back on Luke tilting his head to the side.
“And what will you do if I don’t follow your orders?” He asked with a knowing smirk on his face. Jai turned before he could even let Luke answer and made his way back to me. His hand traveled from my shoulder, slowly trailing it down my arm and cupping around my butt. Before I could even think I was pushing Jai away from me with a hard slap against his cheek. It took everyone, me included, a minute to absorb what just happened before Jai snarled at me. “Bitch.” He hissed looking me directly in the eyes as he brought his fist up to my jaw sending me to the ground where I lied in shock.
I heard grunts coming from behind me but I couldn’t focus on it. My vision became blurry making the world spin around me as if I were on a marry-go-round. A piercing buzz suffocated my ears making them feel like they were bleeding. My breaths came slow and painful. I was completely terrified, a feeling I haven’t felt in a long time. And it was in that moment that when Luke’s face came into my vision and his lips moving rapidly as he spoke to me that I knew the world still had something for me and that dying no longer sounded like heaven to my ears.
A/N: I’m so sorry if this was totally out of whack lol… I sometimes get carried away but ya hopefully you enjoy it so far! I should have Chapter 4 up by tomorrow (who knows I might stay up all night and just write bc it’s what I enjoy doing) but ya! Thank you so much for reading and please definitely give this a heart or reblog if you enjoyed it bc it helps out so much :) thanks again!
“I didn’t think anyone was even capable of being a worse dancer than Luke.” I laughed at Kean as he embarrassingly moved to the beat of the song like a dad trying to impress his little girl.
“Hey, don’t diss the moves.” He faked hurt making both of as laugh while we continued to dance together.
The entire night the music has been upbeat making me feel a little tired by now. I already spotted Nina who made sure to stay a meter away from us the whole night with her date who was the captain of the soccer team -Kurt- just to make sure that if there were any moments she could steal Kean away from me, she’d be there to do so.
All of the sudden, the music toned down, slowing to Tattooed Heart by Ariana Grande. I felt Kean pull me into his body, letting me rest my head on his chest as we swayed to the beat together. Something about Kean felt safe and warm, his arms wrapped tightly around me like if he let go I’d fall off the edge of the Earth. I let myself breathe in his sent: warm, minty and fresh. My arms tightened gently around his neck, holding onto him like he was to me.
The song finally came to a stop as a new upbeat one picked up sending the students back into their random bobbing to the noisy beat.
“Do you want a drink?” Kean leaned closely to my ear, his lips lightly brushing the skin causing shivers to run down my spine.
“Ya.” I smiled. “I’ll come with you to get it.”
We both made our way to the punch bowl that was placed directly on the other side of the room. We pushed by couples on our journey causing Kean to hold my hand tightly while he directed us. Finally making it out of the sea of dancing bodies, we stopped in front of the punch bowl, Kean grabbing two cups and began filling them. I eyed the cookies that were placed further down the long table before turning to Kean who already filled one of the cups.
“I’m going to grab a cookie, you want one?” He declined making me shrug while I made my way down the table to the cookie platter.
Picking one of the chocolate chip biscuits up, I took a massive bite out of it closing my eyes in pleasure from the taste of it on my tongue. As my eyelids fluttered back open, I turned back towards the punch bowl to find the two cups Kean was filling to be full with red juice but he wasn’t there anymore. I did a complete circle, studying the crowd to find any trace of him but ending up with nothing.
Turning back to the punch bowl, I bumped my face into a solid chest. My eyes traveled up the body to a man’s face; to Rowan’s face.
“Hello, love.” He smiled down at me. The smile was vile making me feel nauseous all of the sudden. His smile was also the last thing I remember seeing before a fog of black clouded my vision.
I made it to Ella’s school in record time, leaving the beaten up Toyota on the side of the road in front of the school’s entrance.
“I’m sorry, but you can’t park there.” I heard someone tell me but I easily ignored it, pushing past everyone until I found myself standing in the gymnasium where the dance was being held. My eyes searched over peoples heads looking for any sign of Ella’s unnatural blonde hair.
“Where the hell is she?” I mutter to myself before beginning to make my way into the crowd. Pushing past people, I made sure to study ever blonde’s face I could find but ended up empty handed.
“Hey.” I tapped a black haired girls shoulder. When she turned, I found it hard to look into here piercing blue eyes that I didn’t expect to find on her with her dark skin and matching hair.
“Hey.” She flashed me a flirtatious smile. “I’m Nina.”
I nodded my head not really caring for her name. “Do you know where a girl named Ella is?”
With the question she let out a frustrated sigh while giving me an eye roll. “Since when did she start getting all the hot guys?” I heard her mutter under the music as I waited for her to answer my question. “Why don’t you come dance with me instead? I’m a lot more fun.” She winked at the last comment.
Feeling my jaw clench tightly together with no patients left I tried again. “I need to find her now. This is important.”
“I last saw her over by the punch table with the hot, new transfer student. Kean? Anyways, I’m not really her personal stalker so I don’t know where they would have went from there.” With that, she turned showing that our conversation was over.
I began my way over to the table with refreshments only to find that Ella was no where to be seen. My hands ran through my hair in frustration as I took another look out into the sea of people.
Anger boiled inside me at my failure to protect Ella. I glanced around the room again finding an exit at the end of the table. I moved towards it, wanting to clear my head before trying to find Ella again.
The cool, night air made me feel more at ease. I took several breaths before turning back towards the door and wrapping my hand around it’s handle until I heard hushed voices coming from around the corner. Moving from the door, I kept to the shadows of the walls, peeking around the corner to find two familiar figures hovering over two other unconscious bodies. My heart stopped when my eyes swept over one of the bodies lying lifelessly on the ground.
“Ella.” I whispered.
I moved backwards away from the corner of the wall to catch my breath. What was I going to do? How was I going to save Ella? I needed a game plan.
Taking a deep breath, I moved back towards the corner peeking my head out from the shadow only to meet the eyes of Rowan.
“How nice of you to join us, Hemmings.” He gave me a wicked smile before I felt two large hands grab me by the collar and haul me to the ground where Ella and Kean were lying. I stretched my hand out to softly stroke Ella’s face watching as she lightly stirred under my touch.
“I’m right here,” I told her not sure if she could even hear mine. “I’m not going to leave you.” I let myself take in her face. Instead of a relaxed composure like she should have when someone was sleeping she was tense and stiff like she knew what was going on wasn’t something to feel relaxed about.
“Kill the two boys,” I heard Rowan’s voice come from above me. “Keep the girl, I want her.”
With that, I pushed myself off the ground, collecting all the energy I had within me. Before I could even think about what was happening, I felt myself lunging at Rowan knocking him to the ground and giving me time to shove my fist into Tyse’s cheek. We continued the fight until Tyse was able to dodge one of my hits making the rhythm of the fight off balance and Rowan throwing me back on the ground while he stepped on my chest with as much force he could muster without breaking my ribs.
“So you want to play it the hard way.” Rowan smiled. “Then lets do this the hard way.” He nodded his head over to where Tyse was standing as he made his way over to me as he picked me up with his meaty arms and slammed me into the school’s brick wall.
“Since when were you in charge of Jai’s gang?” I spat in Tyse’s face though the question was directed to Rowan who leaned against a wooden bench placed in front of my eyes.
“‘Jai’s gang’?” A laugh erupted from inside of him. “You see, Luke, it was never Jai’s gang, of course someone as blind as you wouldn’t be able to see that.” He paused to get up to move closer to where I stood pressed against the hard wall with Tyse’s body pressed up against mine. “Jai was apart of my gang but when you joined Jai was… 'in charged’ per say.” He air quoted 'in charge’.
“Why?” I asked after he didn’t elaborate.
Rowan gave me a shrug. “I was in trouble at the time; cops, other gangs. I needed to keep a low profile so I made Jai the new leader to make it look as if he killed me off.” He was pacing but stopped to turn to me. “Remind me to thank your little girl toy for killing Jai. I was going to do it myself since I was done with him but I guess she took care of it for me.”
I tried my best to push my anger out of my system though it was a lost cause. “What do you want with her? She has nothing to do with this.”
“But you see Luke, she does because she means everything to you.” Rowan began, starting to pace again. “When you came into my gang you pretty well screwed up everything. I have no idea why Jai would pick you to be his right hand man but he did. Sure you were strong and a great fighter, but smart? Not so much. Maybe you should have rethought your ways of going behind my back to try to get Jai out of control. You would have ruined everything, you idiot.” He gave me a cold laugh. “And of course there was that instant with my girlfriend.” Rowans eyes moved from Ella to me. “So how’s the better play toy?”
My eyes followed his when he looked at Ella to see her now awake, listening to the entire conversation. Her body was still sprawled out on the ground too weak to get to her feet.
At Rowan’s comment, I felt all the anger I had kept berried inside me beginning to flood my system. I pushed Tyse off me as if he were a feather and kicked him to the ground. Moving to Rowan next, I saw him reach for his gun strapped in the waistband of his jeans and pointing it at Ella’s head, stopping me in my tracks.
“One more step,” He began. “And it’ll be the last breath she takes.”
A/N: Hey guys! So I hope that you enjoyed this chapter, but I’m seriously sorry if it kinda sucked (especialy with explinations and such) it’s late out and I’m like half asleep right now so if I get a lot of asks asking me what the hell I’m talking about in this chapter than I’ll probably rewrite it LOL :) but anyways please like and reblog because it helps me out so much! Thanks guys :)
I felt it; the water filling up my lungs cutting off my air way. My eyes snapped open though everywhere I looked was blurry and blue. For a second I thought it was a wave of dizziness coursing through me from the hit I took when I blacked out but as my air way cut off more and more I realized that I was under water.
I felt my body begin to panic, not sure of what to do first and not ready to die. My legs automatically began pushing myself up off the smooth surface of what felt like a pool floor only to be dragged down again. I searched for whatever was keeping me anchored until my eyes landed on a large cinder block that had a rope tied around it and my ankle. I tried once again, pushing myself to the surface now knowing that I had extra weight to carry, but the block wouldn’t budge.
Kneeling down, I began trying to untie the knots around both my ankle and the slab of cement but it was as if whoever tied them went to scouts and completed all their knot badges.
I searched the pool for anything sharp enough to cut it but there was nothing around me. My hands moved to my hair in frustration knowing that there was no other choice but to stay here and quietly die. I let my hands trace over my face and down my neck, halting once I felt my shark tooth necklace that I always wore beneath my shirts.
Ripping it off my neck, I leaned back over the rope and began sawing away at it. At this point I didn’t know if all this work would even pay off. I began hacking at the rope and pulling with my arms allowing it to give away.
Finally I began to feel the rope start to lack around my ankle telling me that I was near freedom. With one last pull I was able to rip it apart from my ankle and began my journey to the top. I was lucky that the pool wasn’t that deep as I finally surfaced and began coughing up water.
My eyes did a quick scan of the area realizing I was still in the park though it looked to be around mid night. I somehow managed to find the strength to pull myself out of water sucking in all the air I could get.
“Didn’t think you’d make it there for a second, mate.” A thick Irish accent said from above me. My eyes traveled up the pant leg of the person who stood in front of me until I got to his face. He reminded me of Jai only instead of having pits of black for eyes his were like a grey sea before a storm hit. His dark hair was also styled differently, shaved short on the sides with it quiffed in the center. But his sun kissed skin was exactly like Jai’s.
“So instead of helping me,” I began, starting to get to my feet even though I’d rather just lay there for another 10 minutes until I caught my breath. “You decided to sit back and watch the show.”
“Hey mate, I only just got here when I saw you using whatever you had to break free of whatever was tying you down.” He put his hands up in surrender telling me that he was innocent. “I’m Kean.” He extended his arm out for me to shake but I ignored it.
“So I’m guessing you aren’t part of Jai’s gang or else you would have had another cinder block ready and pushing me back under.”
“Jai?” His eyebrows shot up. “Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.” I studied him for a moment trying to figure out if we’ve ever met. “When Jai use to live back in Ireland I was his secondhand man in his gang.”
My eyes moved down to the dog chain that was tied around his neck, an exact replica of mine.
“So was I,” I told him and he cracked a smile.
“Was?” He asked.
“I tried over ruling him, tried being the gang leader.” I shrugged. “Almost did it but I couldn’t bring myself to…" Kill him. I finished in my head.
"Well you got further then I ever did.” Kean told me. “He left taking everything with him. People told me that he moved back her to Australia where he was born.” He studied me from head to toe. “And by the looks of it, they’re right.”
I gave him a single nod, eyeing him one last time before turning to go back to my car that was still parked in the parking lot.
“I never caught your name.” Kean called out to me.
I stopped walking turning towards him. “Luke,” I shouted over at him. “You aren’t by chance here looking for a bit of revenge on, Jai, are you?”
Kean began walking towards me with a smirk that was almost as wicked as mine. “And what if I told you I was.”
My smile grew, “Then welcome to the club brother.”
I gasped for air as my eyes shot open taking in my new surroundings. It looked as though I was in a fancy condo complex that only movie stars could afford, from the high end appliances that I could see from the open lay out, to the modern furniture that was placed ever so carefully in the living room.
I tried to move but noticed that both my arms and legs were tied to the chair I was sitting on. I was still in the same casual clothing I was wearing at the amusement park with Luke, my hair still pulled back into a pony tail only it was beginning to come undone. My eyes searched the room once more trying to find any signs of life but there was none that I could find.
“Hello?” I called out into the spacious living area. “Hello?” I called again only a little louder after not hearing a response.
After no one answered me, I knew for certain I was alone. I couldn’t remember anything that happened past from when Luke told me to stay where I was as he went off to talk to Lux.
My head fell against the back of the chair, letting a sigh out in the process. I moved my head to the side trying to get comfortable until I saw the letter opener on the coffee table only a meter away from me. Checking to make sure no one was around to see or hear me, I scratched my chair along the marble floors going as quickly as I could to reach the knife. With it being in arms length, I stretched my hand as far as it would go wrapping my fingers around the base and bringing it down to the arm to begin awkwardly hacking away to the ropes.
It took me nearly ten minutes until the fibers became so loose I was able to swing my hand free. I did the same to my other hand and both my feet though it took less time as I began getting the hang of it.
Doing on last search to make sure no one was there, I got to my feet and made my way to wherever I could find and exit but stopped when the sound of the door opening and closing filled the empty condo.
Without thinking, I ran straight back to the chair hiding the knife behind my back as I sat pretending like I was still tied up.
“Ella,” The familiar voice sent shivers up my back like a cold winter breeze would do. Turning my head I met the dark eyes that belonged to Jai with Lux, Rowan and Tyse standing off to his side. With a single flick of a wrist, he sent all three off to a room that was to my right. “It’s nice to see you’re still here.” He smiled as he made his way towards me.
“Can’t really go anywhere when you’re tied up and stuff.” I muttered to him causing a smile to sprout on his lips. He turned his back to me, giving me the perfect opportunity to strike him with the knife that was hidden behind my back. Moving as quietly as possible, I took the blade in my hand before lunging forward at him only to be swung around and held in a headlock position.
“You surprised me,” Jai whispered in my ear as I gasped for air. “You didn’t strike me as the kind of person to try and escape, I mean I thought death was a cutters best friend.”
Anger boiled inside me at the mention of my cutting causing me to jerk backwards into Jai in any attempts to hurt him but he caught me easily.
“A little tip,” He advised me. “If you want the element of surprise on your side then I’d suggest you at least move the chair back to it’s original position.”
My eyes traveled from where the chair use to be to where it was sitting now after my struggle to reach the letter opener.
“Your entrance was a little abrupt,” I wheezed out. “But I’ll keep that in mind next time.”
With that, he tossed me to the floor like a rag doll making me cough from the over powering air that was now being absorbed into my lungs. I watched him with daggers in my eyes as he paced back and forth in front of me.
“What do you want with me?” I asked him. “You obviously don’t want to kill me or else you would have already.”
He eyed me suspiciously before letting his smirk return to his face. “Well there you’re wrong,” He shrugged. “I do want to kill you but you see it has to be timed precisely with the right audience watching.”
“You mean Luke." He gave me a vicious smile before nodding, "So what? You’re going to lock me away in a high up tower while a call out for a prince as he tells me to let down my hair?”
A cold laugh erupted from his chest causing my goose bumps to return. “I decided this would be a choice for you,” He began. “Either I could kill you or I could train you to be a part of my gang. You’ll learn how to fight, how to deal, how to wade off unwanted people.” He looked me from head to toe licking his lips subconsciously, “Because being a girl in my world is anything but a paradise, especially when they look like you.” His eyes stopped on my chest making me raise my arms to cover myself though it didn’t do much to ease myself. “Either way,” He continued. “I’ll get to watch Luke suffer because you’ll be torn away from him.”
A/N: Hey guys! So hopefully you’re still enjoying it! Can’t believe I did two updates today and wrote an imagine… as you can see I have no life AHA :) but if you did enjoy it please give it a like and reblog because it seriously helps me out so much! Thanks guys :)
“Just let her go, Jai.” I told him. “And then I promise you that I’ll do whatever you want me to do, hell I’ll kill myself in the sickest way if you want. The only thing I ask for is to let Ella go and not watch.”
Jai just tsked me while shaking his head. “I’m afraid that wasn’t one of the options, Luke."
I wanted so badly in that moment to lung at him, to rip his windpipe out of his throat, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t because I had 20 guns all pointed at me and the thought of Ella watching in horror as I died made me feel sick. My hands moved to my hair in frustration before I looked at her.
Ella’s eyes were blood shot from her tears, mouth slightly agape like she wanted to say something but couldn’t. She wouldn’t meet my stare knowing it would pain her too much.
"Fine,” I moved my eyes back to Jai who was watching the two of us as if it were a movie. “You win.” A cold laugh erupted from inside me. “You fucking win Jai. Are you happy?" I began to move towards the door but stopped in my tracks. "If she even gets a scratch on her, Price, I’m coming after you.” I moved my glance from Jai to the girl who I had no choice but to leave behind. “Ella,” I practically whispered though with the slightest movement of her head it became obvious she head it. “We will find each other again, I promise.”
The second Kean and I stepped foot in the elevator, I dug out my phone and dialed the police telling them everything that was happening. Calling them will always be my last option, it was every gang members last option. But right now my options were limited.
“I have to go to Ella’s house, tell her family what’s happening.” I told Kean after hanging up and pocketing the phone. A long sigh left my lips.
“We’re gonna get her back, mate.” Kean assured me but I easily waved him off as we both walked out of the complex.
“I hope you know your way to wherever you’re staying,” I began walking towards my car knowing he was trailing behind me.
“What?” He called out as I started to put distance between us. “You’re just going to leave me here?”
I gave him a shrug. “I have more important things on my mind right now.”
“I was a little worried there for a second,” I heard Jai laugh after Luke left. “I thought he was going to give up his life there.”
I shrugged, “What difference would it make to you, isn’t that what you want?”
“No,” He whispered in what he intended to be a lust filled voice but to me the sound made me want to hurl. “I wanted what he choose, for you to stay.” He moved closer to me lifting my chin with his chubby fingers. “I want you, Ella.”
With my arms now free of their restraints, I pushed him off me and walked over to the living room that had floor to ceiling length windows. My eyes wandered around the busy city of the night making me feel even more trapped than what I felt already.
Luke will find a way to save you, I told myself. He promised.
“Beautiful isn’t.” I felt Jai press himself close to my back as he mumbled in my ear. “I could give you the entire world with my money. Though Luke,” He laughed like his name was a joke.“You’d be lucky if he even pays for dinner when the two of you go out.” I pushed my elbow into his gut but not before he caught it. “You’re in my domain now,” He hissed. “You’ll be playing by my rules.” I felt his cold lips kiss down my neck causing me to go stiff in his hold. His one hand was placed low on my waist while the other traveled slowly up my thigh. His body trapped mine against the window as the though of having no chance against his muscular build crept into my mind. I felt as his lips making their way back to my ear, “We’ll finish this later.”
He pushed himself away from me as I let out a shaky breath that I didn’t realize I was holding. I watched as he called his man and began talking to them in hushed voices before they began leaving the building.
“What are you doing?” I asked Jai seeing him make his way back over to me.
“We need to leave,” He told me bringing his hand to rest on my waist. I side stepped away from his touch leaving a smile on his face but he didn’t make a move to bring me close to him. “Knowing your boyfriend he probably called the cops once he stepped foot out the door.”
“Good,” I told him. “Then I’m staying here and waiting for them.”
Jai grabbed my arm harshly and pulled me through the elevator doors with him.
“Listen here you little bitch,” He hissed viciously in my ear. “You’ll do everything I say. You will be my little puppet and you will forget about Luke. If he ever comes to rescue you then you won’t go with him. I’ll train you to fight him, to make sure you win.”
“And what makes you think I’d ever let you control me?” I asked him using the same amount of confidants as him.
“Because I have snipers watching your entire family,” He smiled. “And if you disobey me at all then I will kill each one slowly and painfully.”
I felt bile rise in my throat with the thought of him killing off my family but I pushed it down quickly knowing Luke wouldn’t let that happen. We finally reached the car garage that was underneath the building. My eyes scanned over the group of men first spotting Rowan and Tyse who stood at the front of the group waiting for orders. There was only one other girl in the mix who I didn’t recognize.
“Where’s Lux?” I turned back to Jai who just shrugged.
“I got bored of her, so I told Tyse and Rowan to take care of the bitch."
The memory of Jai telling Rowan, Tyse and Lux to all go into the same room when he first got to the flat with me came rushing back in my mind. I remembered the loud bang I heard but brushed it off thinking someone had dropped something. The nauseous feeling that I felt in the elevator returned, turning my glance to Tyse and Rowan who held up their guns knowing they were listening to the entire conversation.
I turned back to Jai who now had a smirk plastered on his face as he enjoyed watching me suffer. I tried my best to regain my composure not wanting Jai or any of the others to see me as weak.
"So what’s stopping you from getting bored of me?” I asked with all the confidants I had left in me.
He leaned down to my ear close enough that I could feel his lips on my skin making me go stiff again. “You see,” He began. “There’s not." My eyes traveled down his arm to where his hand was playing with the gun in his waistband.
A/N: Hey there guys! So things are getting pretty intense lol but ya hopefully you’re still enjoying it! And if you are then definitely give this a like and reblog because it helps me out so much :) Thank you so much! And feel free to leave me any 5sos imagine request you have!
“That was a pretty gutty move, Hemmings.” I let out a loud sigh that could probably be heard across the room knowing that my bandmate, Ashton, was right. My other two mates sat on the old torn sofa that we found on the curb of the road one day looking at me with the same disappointed look Ashton was giving me after telling them what happened yesterday at Geno’s with Ella.
“I know man,” I began. “But what was I suppose to do? Tell her that someone is possibly threatening her life?” I shook my head letting them know that wasn’t an option.
“You know it’s never to late to, I don’t know, call the cops.” Michael, the lead guitarist of the band, stated.
“Gee, what a great idea.” My voice filled with sarcasm and hands covering my face before I let them fall to my side. “I already notified them,” I started. “They said since nothing has actually happened they can’t do much other than having more cops patrolling the streets tonight.”
“Well I guess it’s better than nothing,” Our bassist, Calum told me encouragingly.
I nodded in agreement, “I just wish that I didn’t have to push Ella away,” This was probably the hundredth sigh I’ve let out today. “The thought of her being in danger and not being able to do anything is killing me.”
“Just give her a call mate,” Calum shrugged like it was no big deal.
I shook my head, “She hates me, Cal.”
My eyes fell shut once the words left my mouth. She hates me. Ella.Hates.Me. Hearing the words spoken out loud felt like I got sucker punched in the gut causing me to be winded.
“But even if she picks up at least you know she’s safe.” Calum tried again.
I sat there for a moment taking in his words before turning to Ash who sat next to me and extended my hand to him. “Give me your phone.” He gave me a confused stare so I continued, “She won’t pick up if she sees my name flash across her screen so let me use your phone.”
I watched Ashton dig his hand into his pocket taking out his IPhone and handing it over to me. Punching in Ella’s number, I wait impatiently listening to the ringing before I heard the familiar soft voice answering from the other end.
“Hello?” I felt myself smile as a sigh of relief exited me. “Hello?” She asked again before I hung up without saying a word.
All three boys stared at me waiting for me to tell them what happened.
“So…” Michael began for me.
“She answered.” I told them. “That means she’s fine or else Jai would have taken her phone from her.”
Jai may be stupid but not stupid enough to not destroy her phone so the police could track Ella down.
I felt as though a weight was lifted from my chest and I could finally breathe easily now.
“Well,” Ashton got to his feet looking down at the three of us. “Are we just going to sit around all night and talk about Luke’s depressing love life,” I gave him a glare which he easily shrugged off. “Or are we actually gonna have some fun and do some banding?”
The rest of us all stood up in sync making our way to our instruments. Just as I was about to pick up my guitar I felt my phone go off in my pocket. Digging it out, I unlocked the screen and noticed I had 1 unread message from an unknown number.
I hope you had a good last conversation with the person you care most for, Hemmings. It read, because tonight is gonna be quite the party.
I was almost at Geno’s. The weather felt like a hurricane with the winds making it hard to steer my old, rusted Toyota Camry and the rain making me second guess how strong the windows are.
I didn’t bother locking the piece of junk once I got to the ally way as I ran as fast as I could to the cellar where I knew Jai would be. It was cold and damp down there but anything was better than the rain outside. The stairs that led me further down into the Earth creaked with each step I took. As I neared the bottom I head distant voices knowing I was in the right place.
I saw Tyse first as I turned the corner, then Rowan then Jai and finally the person I cared for most. Only it wasn’t the person I cared for most. Actually I could care less for the person.
I let out a loud laugh that sent the four of them turning towards me. “You think that Luca Grey is the person I care most about?” I shook my head amused at them. “Go ahead, kill him. Actually I’ll help you for free after what Luca did to ruin my life.”
“I ruined your life?” Luca stepped forward but Tyse dragged him back to the spot where he was standing before. I watched as he and Rowan sat him in a chair tying his arms and legs to it.
“Oh, I know you could give a rat’s ass about him,” Jai nudged his finger at Luca who had already began working up a sweat of nerves. “But would you really let the person you care for watch on the sidelines as her brother gets killed slow and painfully.”
Jai looked passed me nodding his head at something behind me. I turned to see a guy that I recognized from Jai’s gang restraining Ella’s small frame as she struggled against him. Without hesitation, I began moving towards Ella but felt myself being tugged back by two of Jai’s men. I struggled against them but stopped when the one kicked behind my knee sending me falling to the hard ground.
“Now you see, Luke.” Jai moved closer to me pacing back and forth in front of my eyes. “I was going to just kill this pretty little thing over here.” I watched as he moved over to where Ella was standing and caressed her cheek causing rage to boil inside me. At this moment I was glad that I made the rest of the boys stay at Michael’s house because I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I let anymore people who I cared about get hurt. “But than I thought why not kill the one thing she loves most so she can hate you for the rest of your life as you stood there doing nothing.” He flashed a smile in my direction. “You can thank Kenny for that great idea.” He motioned at the man on my right who looked like he could eat 50 hotdogs with no problem. “Now,” Jai turned to Rowan and Tyse. “Let the party begin.”
“Stop it!” Ella yelled but it was like she was invisible to Jai. Her eyes fell on me. I’ve never seen someone so desperate before in my life and in that moment I knew I had to think quick and do something.
“What if I told you I have something more that you want than this.” I called out to Jai. Jai held up a hand stopping Tyse from stabbing the knife he had in his hand into Luca’s thigh.
“And what possibly would that be?” He asked me giving me his full attention.
I took a deep breath, “Kill me instead.” I told him. “All I’m asking for in return is that you let Luca and Ella go.” I watched him take in my offer with interest. “You can do whatever you want to me. Think about to all the times I’ve hurt you, Jai. I’m giving a free card to have your revenge on me.”
Not once did I steal a glance from Ella. I knew her eyes were on me, I could feel them. I wasn’t sure what would happen if I looked at her but a feeling deep inside me told me not to. The sound of her voice calling my name and asking what I was doing sounded distant to me as I focused my attention on Jai.
He looked me from head to toe like I was pulling some sort of prank on him. “Okay,” He agreed finally. “Untie the boy and let the girl go.”
“Luke,” Ella rushed over to me but was stopped by one of my guards. “Let go of me!” She screamed. It was the most painful thing to see her like this; completely lost and destroyed. I knew that she would never get over this and it killed me. “Luke you’ll be fine!” She told me as her voice got more distant watching as one of Jai’s men dragged her and Luca out of the cellar. “Let him go!” She yelled but I could hardly see her now. I watched her slowly disappear into the darkness but not before I saw her mouth an ‘I love you’.
My breath caught in my throat but I quickly forced out a quiet, “I love you too.” Back at her hoping she saw me.
“Now,” Jai said breaking the bond between Ella and me. “Let the party begin.”
A/N: So ya hopefully you’re enjoying it so far! So much shit going on right now, oh my gosh ahah :D but ya definitely give this a heart and reblog if you liked it bc it helps me out so much and I’ll be writing the next chapter either late tonight or sometime tomorrow! Thanks guys!
It felt as though time had slowed almost to the point where everything was frozen. My body and mind had no idea how to react to what just happened down in that cellar. I couldn’t think about anything right now, my thoughts all jumbled together creating a mess in my head. The only thing I could focus on was Luca and how he was safe.
“We need to go,” I heard Luca say from above me though he sounded muffled. His arms snaked through mine pulling me from the rain soaked ground lightly to my feet. “Ella, come on.”
No matter how hard I tired my feet wouldn’t move. “Luke,” I breathed out as my brain started to uncluttered itself. “Oh my God,” I whispered staring at my brother with wide eyes. “We need to go back. Luke’s down there. You don’t understand, Jai will…” Kill him.
I began turning back to the cellar’s door just as Luca pulled me out of the ally. “We need to get help.” He told me then continued after taking in my uncertain facial expression. “It’s the only way we can help Luke, Ella.”
I nodded my head knowing that going back down into the cellar would only grant us a death wish. The only thing we could do was find a shop open near by but with the power out from the storm, every store we ran by to be closed limiting our options from slim to zero.
“There has to be a shop open somewhere.” I muttered to myself knowing that if we had to run back to our house to get help I might as well kiss Luke goodbye.
As if my prayers had been answered, the convenience shop on the corner of the street had it’s flashing open sign on in it’s window. Luca and I pretty well ran down the door, wheezing and coughing in attempts to catch our breath from the run.
“Phone 911,” Luca wheezed. The man behind the counter hesitated as if we were pulling a practical joke on him before Luca reached over the counter and grabbed the phone dialing the number as quickly as he could. “Hi we need police and an ambulance. A man took my friend into captive and is threatening his life. Okay. Yes. On Queens St. in the old Geno’s cellar. Uh-huh. Okay.” And with that Luca hung up.
“So what now?” I asked him but he just shrugged.
“I guess we just pray to God that nothing happens to him.”
I held back yet another scream as the knife dug into my thigh from Tyse’s powerful arms.
“I have to saying, Hemmings.” Jai started. He was sat in a chair facing mine watching me as if this were a movie. “Sacrificing your own life for a girls trauma and pain, now that’s quite the love story.”
Through the pain I felt a smile tug at the ends of my mouth. “I hope you’re enjoying yourself over there.” I told him. “Because once my boys find out that you killed me it won’t be a party… at least not for you.”
He gave me a cold smirk. “What boys? You dropped out of my gang when you realized you could never lead it. What idiots would want you as their leader?”
“Who said anything about a gang?” I asked, his eyebrows shot up but I didn’t feel the need to elaborate. If I knew my three best friends as well as I think I do then I know that they aren’t going to let Jai just prance around town without payback.
“Again.” Jai called out to Tyse who sent the knife back into my thigh making me yell out in pain.
My eyes fell back on Jai noticing the small smile of defeat on his face. Like hell I would let him win. Even though I was in quite the mess up I knew this wouldn’t be the last of me, it just couldn’t.
“Again.” He repeated for the seventh time. Just before Tyse could bring the knife down into my thigh the sound of sirens from outside filled the cellar’s walls. Jai turned to his men. “You three,” He pointed to the three men who he wanted. “Go outside and distract the police, run around the block if you have to. Just do everything you can to keep them from coming down here.”
The three men left without a single objection as Jai turned his attention back to me and nodded at Tyse to continue. A scream lifted from the back of my throat louder than the others finding it harder each time to contain the noise. I lost track by now of how many times that knife had gone into my thigh before a loud bang came from the direction of the cellar door.
“Get down!” I heard someone yell praying and hoping that help was finally here.
“Well don’t just stand there,” Jai hissed at Tyse and Rowan. “Go stop the cops from getting in here.”
The two nodded racing towards the entrance of the cellar. Jai watched me with suspicion before getting up from his chair and walking past me. “Just so you know, Hemmings, this isn’t over yet.”
I heard his footsteps get quieter behind me then the sound of a door opening and closing sent me into thought. There was another way out.
I studied the ropes that had me tied down knowing I wouldn’t be able to break free of them by jiggling my arms around. With all of Jai’s men focused on fighting off the officers, I got to my feet with the chair still attached to me and limped my way into the wall trying to break the chair. It took me at least five tries before it broke and my restraints fell off. I quickly made my way over to where I heard Jai walk to in attempts to find the door. The cuts on my thigh made me wince every time I put pressure on my leg making it frustrating to walk.
Finally finding the old rotten door that camouflaged into the dirt walls of the cellar, I let myself squeeze through as I began my walk down the tight passage way. It was a 10 minute walk before I surfaced back above ground popping up near the malls entrance which wasn’t too far from Ella’s house.
I looked around the parking lot hoping to catch any clue that might lead me to Jai. But there was nothing. He was gone.
My mom made us all hot chocolate that night as my entire family sat around the fireplace. None of us spoke a word not knowing what to say or do. You can’t prepare yourself for a situation like this and I could tell by my mom’s face that the sense of not knowing how to fix this was killing her.
“I think I’m gonna go to bed.” I told them starting to get to my feet.
“You’ve hardly touched your hot chocolate.” My father commented but I only shrugged.
“Guess I’m not that hungry.” I didn’t give them my regular good night kiss, instead I went straight to my room and curled up on my bed. I didn’t realize I was even crying until I felt a tear dampen my pillow case.
Everything that’s happened since Luke came into my life has been a complete mess. From getting a concision, to remembering how to feel again, to today in the cellar. And looking back at everything now I think I finally understand why theses tears are coming. They’re not because of the messed up life I’m living or because I have no idea if Luke’s safe. I’m crying because I realize that there’s nothing in the world that I would have traded for the moments I spent with Luke. And that’s beautiful. They weren’t sad tears, they were happy ones. And maybe the reason why I was crying tears of joy in the saddest moment of my life was because my feelings are so fucked up right now that I don’t know how to function anymore.
Just then, I felt the bed dip beside me causing me to jump and turn to see who it was. A wave of relief and pure bliss washed over me as I brought Luke into my arms.
“What are you doing here?” I asked him pulling away.
“I had to make sure you were okay.” He told me. “By the way, you should move your room downstairs so I don’t have to climb up the side of the house to get into your window, especially when I’m injured.”
My eyes traveled down his body stopping at the darkened spot on the material of his jeans over his thigh. I ran to turn on my bedroom light before making my way back over to Luke to asses his injury. Opening my top drawer of my desk, I grabbed a pair of scissors and began cutting his jeans back to where the injury was.
“Oh my God,” I breathed out as I looked at the gashes feeling a bit queasy. “We need to get you to a hospital now.”
Before I could even take one step towards my door I felt Luke’s hand tug me back down on my bed. “I’ll go later,” He told me. “Right now I need to know that you’re okay.”
“I’m fine, Luke.” I rushed trying to get to the point. “Now lets go, you need stitches.”
“Ella please,” He took my hand in his intertwining our fingers. “Just put a cloth around it for now.”
I felt my jaw clench in argument but decided against forcing Luke to the hospital. As I went through my closet, I found an old t-shirt that I probably last wore in grade 5 before sitting back on my bed with Luke. I grabbed the rubbing alcohol that sat on my nightstand in for in case I cut myself too deep from the razor and rubbed some on the shirt and Luke’s wounds. He hissed out in pain while I apologized the entire time before securing the shirt around his thigh and tying it in a double knot.
“That’ll have to do.” I told him. Turning off the lights again and lifting the covers up for both Luke and I to get under. “Will you stay the night with me?”
“Of course.” He mumbled kissing the top of my head.
“And when I wake up, will you still be here?”
He looked me in the eyes before nodding his head. “Yes.”
I smiled up at him, lying my head on his chest careful not to hurt him. “Luke?” He hmmed in response letting me know I had to share his attention with tiredness. “Thank you, for everything you’ve done for me.”
I felt his arms tighten around me. “I love you, Ella.”
My heart fluttered at the words that left his mouth. “I love you too.”
A/N: Finally a cute ending to a chapter instead of a cliff hanger lol :) so I hope you’re still enjoying it and I’m sorry for any horrible writing errors as it is 1am here and I’m so dead AHA but ya please give this a heart and reblog if you liked it! Thanks guys!
