We can think of no better way to end off January than with a Global Game Jam.
From Friday to late last night on January 31st, game developers the world over worked tirelessly to create games in the short time frame.
In South Africa alone, four separate locations were available for local devs to meet up and create. George, Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg were all homes to physical locations, with anyone being able to participate from home too.
But, as we learnt from Steven Tu (of Twoplus Games) on our recent htxt.africast, what makes these jams so great is the collaboration and ingenuity which can only occur when you’re in surviving with your fellow devs in enclosed spaces.
In fact, only a small amount of the games created here were one man affairs, as many were team efforts.
Below you’ll find a list of the games made, as well as links to their Global Game Jam webpage with descriptions and download links. That’s right, many of the games are free to download either to play, or modify yourself (many have the source code available). As with these prototype jam games, some may not be in a playable state or even uploaded.
