I want to take a moment to talk about Trini. Yes, everyone has talked about this and I’m sure that whether or not you care about the Power Rangers reboot, you’ve heard about how the Yellow Ranger is a lesbian. I want to talk about why exactly this is significant, and why how it’s handled is so important.

Power Rangers, as a franchise, has had a history with the LGBT community from the very beginning, but not in a good way. David Yost, who played Billy in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, is gay. Not only is he gay, but he ended up leaving the series due to constant harassment and homophobic bullying from the crew of the show. He walked off the set of Power Rangers Zeo and never looked back. The way they wrote his character out of the show? By having Billy fall in love with a woman offscreen. They offered him a part in a later series, but he understandably turned the offer down.

Despite the franchise’s focus on diversity, they’ve never had an explicitly queer ranger, or even supporting character. They’ve certainly hinted at it in a few cases, the most overt case being Vita Rocca in Power Rangers Mystic Force. She was butch, had a two part story about being the slave of a vampire queen, and enthusiastically agreed that said vampire queen is hot at the end of the season, but none of that was actual confirmation. It was just a little bit of winking and nodding when the moral guardians weren’t looking.

But then this movie came out. And we got to see Trini, the first ever Yellow Power Ranger, come out. Contrary to what you may have seen in fanart and fanfiction, Trini isn’t smooth with other girls, she isn’t openly gay, and she isn’t in a canon relationship with the Pink Ranger. I love those pieces of fanwork as much as the next person, but the movie itself provides a different picture of Trini’s relationship with her own sexuality.

Like I said before, for decades Power Rangers has never done more than playfully hint at a queer character. That changed with one scene. All five of the heroes, sitting around a campfire and talking about their personal issues. That scene is the first time the subject of sexuality has ever been openly discussed in Power Rangers.

It’s a scene where Trini, who has been reserved and has tried to isolate herself up until now, admitting that she likes how often her family moves around, because that way her parents never get a chance to ask her about her relationships. Zack, who up until this scene had been relentless in flirting with Trini and hitting on her, no matter how often he was pushed away and rejected, jokingly asks if she has boyfriend troubles. When he picks up the sarcasm in her response, it clicks for him, and for the audience. If you pay attention, Zack never once hits on Trini after that. He understands, and he treats Trini as nothing more than a friend from that point on.

“Girlfriend troubles?” Is the first time I can ever remember the concept of someone being gay being brought up in a superhero movie. Despite gay and bisexual characters being in films before (Iceman, Mystique, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, etc.) their sexualities were ignored and pushed to the side, where viewers wouldn’t see them. But with Power Rangers, Saban finally tried to make up for their past treatment of LGBT people. It’s Billy, now played by RJ Cyler, who tells Trini that her friends will accept her no matter what.

And Trini? She admits that she’s never told anyone about her sexuality before. She’s never openly said that she likes other girls. She tears up when she talks about it, about how terrified she is of coming out to her family. How she doesn’t even know how to tell them what’s going on. And with the overwhelming, sickening trend in film and television of murdering lesbian and bisexual characters, Power Rangers ends with a scene of all the Rangers hanging out in detention. The last shot we see of Trini? Smiling at her friends and playing with a pen. Alive. Happy. Healthy. Knowing that her friends are aware she likes girls, and knowing that they’ll always be there for her.

This movie is the first time that lesbian and bisexual women have been able to see themselves as superheroes on the big screen. It’s the focus of Trini’s character arc, finding acceptance among her new friends. So often, LGBT teens end up in a position where they don’t know how to talk about what they’re feeling. They feel trapped and alone, and this movie went and told them that they won’t be. They’ll find people who love and cherish them. There’s a hero who is like them, and who is struggling with her identity just like they are.

I’m not afraid to admit that I cried when Trini came out. I’m sure I wasn’t the only woman who teared up at finally, finally being able to see herself in a superhero. It feels so powerful, and so wonderful.

He came to you like a breath of fresh air, cleansing your body and bringing life to your bones. He was the type of art that only existed on grainy canvases of white, beautiful colors blending together to form a perfection to your eyes. He was the smell of fresh rain on a summers afternoon, peculiar and satisfying mixed into nothing other than complete and utter fondness on your part.

He was your other half.

He just didn’t know it.

Trimberly Week (D7)

Well this has been fun! Be on the look out for another chapter for “The Waiting Game” coming soon! Also, I watched “In A Heartbeat” (encourage everyone to go see that, and if you’ve seen it, go watch it again) which is where I got the idea for this.

Soulmate AU

  • In this world, everyone’s Heart glows depending upon their emotion
    • Yellow = Joy, Trust, Embarrassment
    • Blue = Sadness, Thoughtful, Calm
    • Red = Anger, Frustration, Courage
    • Green = Disgust, Envy, Sickness
    • Black = Fear, Mischief, Pain
    • Pink = Love
  • Hearts can occasionally “come to life” and keep us company in times of need
    • They’re our first and closest companions
    • Hearts show us our truest selves
    • But Hearts are also incomplete, a little like a puzzle piece, and your Soulmate has the other half
  • It was at Trini’s 11th birthday party when her Heart first glowed bright Pink
    • Not like it did when she hugged her Mami or Papi, but for a person who wasn’t family
    • Her name was Kira and they had been friends since Trini had first moved in next door
  • She gave Trini her favorite dinosaur sweatshirt, the yellow one with a pterodactyl on it, and Trini’s Heart thundered excitedly
  • When June Gomez saw her daughter’s Heart glowing for a girl, she spent the rest of the night yelling at her daughter until Trini ran to her room crying
  • Her Heart spent the entire night curled up in her palms, comforting her
  • They moved a week later
  • Kim’s Heart first glowed pink when she was 14
    • Ty Flemming was a sophomore and a rising football star and the second they made eye contact her Heart lit up the hallway
    • (It probably should have been telling that Ty’s didn’t…)
    • But he was Kim’s first real boyfriend and she fell a little too hard, a little too fast
  • It was right before the summer of their senior year when Kim caught Ty and Amanda sleeping together
  • Her Heart remained dark blue for an entire week, before one night it grew reddish black and she sent Ty a picture of Amanda
    • He passed it around the school and blamed it on Kim who blamed it on Amanda and punched Ty’s tooth out
    • She landed herself detention every Saturday for the rest of the year and through the summer, along with Jason Scott and Billy Cranston, who became two of her closets friends
    • She finds it incredibly adorable that Jason’s Heart glows pink whenever Billy talks; he thinks he’s good at hiding it, but the boy is fooling no one
  • Trini moves to Angel Grove that summer and spends the majority of it trying to get away from her overbearing mother or taking care of her little brothers
    • Her brothers could be annoying sometimes but their Hearts always glowed a pale yellow-pink whenever she played with them
    • And they were much cooler about her Heart flashing pink whenever a pretty girl walked by than their mother was
    • Especially considering she once saw Mateo’s Heart glow pink when he was playing with his old friend Wally
  • Trini meets Zack one day when she and her brothers are out hiking
    • He scared the shit out of them when he swung down, hanging upside down, from a tree along the trail
    • Trini was so startled she punched him in the face and knocked him out of the tree
    • They become best friends
  • Senior year at Angel Grove gets a little interesting when Zack and Trini walk through the front gates and Trini’s Heart suddenly leaps out of her chest, twirling and glowing pink, pink, pink!
  • And Trini’s cheeks match in shade as well from everyone staring at her and her Heart starts dragging her across the quad
  • Kim was waiting with Billy and Jason to get their lockers when her Heart suddenly bursts with light and jumps out of her chest for no apparent reason
  • She’s so shocked she doesn’t even have time to stop herself before her Heart starts pushing her down the hall and out the front door
  • And everyone watches in stunned reverence, as Kimberly Hart pin-wheels her arms to keep her balance and a girl they’ve never seen before digs her heels in the ground, their Hearts pulling/pushing them along until
  • CRASH
  • Kim’s arms automatically wrap around the girl she ran into and their breath leaves them
  • Trini has just enough time to look up into the eyes of the girl who caught her before there’s a flash of light and suddenly their Hearts merge together and glow White
    • (White = Soulmates)
  • They’re both in shock, for different reasons
    • Kim’s surprised because her Heart has been blue/red/black for just about her entire summer and suddenly its glowing pink and now white?
    • Trini’s panicking on the inside because while she’s always known her Heart would glow for a girl, much to her mother’s despair, she never imagined she’d actually find her Soulmate
    • Or rather her Heart found her Soulmate
  • Finally Jason, the boys having chased their friends, coughs and startles both girls into motion
  • Kim is the first to break their silence
      • Kim: “So… I guess we’re Soulmates! I’m Kim.”
      • Trini *still shocked*: “I know. I mean, no, I don’t know. You, I don’t know who you are, but I mean like, yeah we’re Soulmates… uh.”
    • And Kim’s smitten
    • Damn her Heart can pick em
  • The bell rings before they can talk more and as they go opposite ways, their Hearts separate but remain White while glowing pink
  • They endure curious stares all day and Kim’s a little surprised when she spots Amanda and her Heart glows a yellowed green
  • Trini and Kim end up having biology together and both their cheeks grow warm when their Hearts reanimate once again to merge
    • The teacher gives them a look, surprised and a little annoyed by the distraction, so Kim stuffs their Heart in her backpack and sits beside Trini
  • They pass notes the entire class, flirting and hiding their giggles, and Kim walks Trini to her locker where she asks her out on a date
    • And Trini flushes hotly but their Heart glows pinky and she accepts
  • They go to Krispy Kreme and spend nearly four hours just talking, losing track of time until Trini’s mom calls and Kim drives her home
  • She walks Trini to her door and when she leans in to kiss her, Trini stops her, saying she had a goodnight and that she’ll see her tomorrow, before going inside
  • And Kim stands there, confused and slightly panicked that she did something wrong, but then the door swings back open and Trini launches herself at Kim, kissing her
  • By the time Kim gets home, her parents are home and her Heart is still glowing pink
    • They immediately notice her White colored Heart and barrage her with questions on her newfound Soulmate
    • When Kim admits its a new girl at her school, her parents are hardly fazed, and insist on meeting her, dinner at the Hart house Friday night
  • Trini manages to avoid her mom that night but she gets caught the next morning and has to tell her mom that her Soulmate is a girl she met at school
    • But Trini’s fears of her mother’s retaliation go out the window when her father congratulates her and says how proud he is, how they both are, of her
    • Her mom remains quiet, but she does offer Trini a nod and a tight smile, so, small victories
    • Her brothers desperately want to meet their sister’s Soulmate and she agrees that they’ll all get to meet Kim, when they’re mother get’s a little more comfortable and they’ve dated a while
  • When Trini walks through the front gates of school her Heart leaps out of her chest and quickly pulls her over to Kim who’s waiting with the boys by the front steps
  • This time when Kim wraps her arms around Trini to catch her, Trini wraps hers around Kim’s shoulders and they smile before leaning in to kiss
    • Sure they’re not actually dating yet, but they’re Soulmates, they have forever to just take their time

Bonus:

  • Trini’s mom meets Kimberly though she still isn’t comfortable with her daughter’s sexuality, so things get tense in Trini’s household
  • It’s alright tho, because Kim’s parents more than make up for it; they absolutely LOVE Trini
  • Jason’s Soulmate ends up being new kid Tommie Oliver, but Jason’s still in love with Billy and Tommie falls for Zack, so they end up just being really close friends and chose their true loves

Prompt: everyone keeps asking why they both keep wearing the pink & yellow color scheme mixed together (they share clothes)

Here you go!

Kimberly had been wearing Trini’s bomber jacket all day, the same bomber jacket Trini wore when they first found the power coins, the jacket Trini wore the first time they met. Something about the jacket made Kim’s heart clench, it smelled faintly like her, trees and pinewood, the smell of the forest, calming and refreshing. Kimberly could also smell the hints of a floral perfume, but it didn’t cover the earthly smell. The jacket smelled like Trini, like safety. Kimberly hadn’t meant to take it, she really hadn’t. She had climbed through Trini’s window last night, same as always, with krispy kreme donuts, for the sheer irony, and she lost track of the time, she usually does when she is with Trini, finding herself lost in the girls bright smile, her doe eyes, everything about Trini was warm, and comfortable. Trini was home. Kimberly always made sure to leave before the sun rose, every time, to make sure that she didn’t get caught by her parents, even though leaving Trini was difficult, her girlfriend begging her to stay and cuddle, among other things, though she usually was pretty good at saying no, the keyword being usually. Last night, she wasn’t as good as saying no as she thought she was, which was proven in more ways than one.

Kimberly had woken the next morning, the sun shining through the window blinding her, as she was laying in bed with Trini, the majority of her clothes spewed across the room, Trini’s soft brown hair spread across the sheets in front of her. The smaller girl was pressed up against her, Kim’s arm thrown over her midsection, holding her close, the other girls chest falling at an even pace, Trini’s light snoring filling Kim’s ears. Kimberly took in the calm for a moment, appreciating the beautiful girl in front of her, who was also her girlfriend. She then realized where she was. At Trini’s house, in the morning, after sneaking out of her house to see Trini. Kimberly jolted out of bed, quickly checking the time on her phone, which was in her pants, which were thrown across the room, on Trini’s desk, along with the assortment of their clothes everywhere, it was five a.m., giving her about an hour to get home, before her parents realized she wasn’t home. Trini started groaning, as Kimberly ran around the room, trying to grab her clothes, as she rushed to get home. Trini’s words were barely audible, but Kimberly could make out a “what the fuck?”,also a “its too early for this”, and a “come back here,” which is what Trini said as she pulled Kimberly back, tugging on her arm, Kimberly falling back into the bed, as Trini tried to pull her closer, Trini still being half asleep.

“Trin! Trini I have to go, unless you want my parents to find out their daughter isn’t home.”

Kimberly exclaimed, trying to pull herself from the other girl, who was incredibly strong, but if she was being honest, she wasn’t really trying that hard, not wanting to leave herself. Trini’s grip didn’t loosen, still pulling Kimberly closer, a small smirk on her face.

“Well that’s too bad princess. Maybe if you hadn’t suggested other activities last night, you would’ve been home on time.”

Trini teased, a mischievous grin on her face as she yanked the other girl forward again. Kimberly was about to yell Trini’s name but stopped herself, realizing that Trini’s parents were literally across the hall. Kimberly falls right next to Trini, their faces inches apart. Her breath hitches as she tries teasing back.

“Suggested, huh? So last night, that’s what you think suggesting is?”

Kimberly hadn’t suggested it, but she certainly wasn’t opposed to it, she also wouldn’t admit that she was secretly hoping.

“I don’t remember you saying no, or complaining, but I do remember a few other words, like OH TRIN-“

Kimberly silences the other girl with a kiss, as they both melt into the kiss, Trini’s hand coming up to frame Kim’s face, her grip loosening on the other girl, allowing Kimberly to slip out of her iron grasp. Kim pulled away from the bed, a whine leaving Trini’s mouth, and rushed to grab all her clothes and her jacket, and she wasn’t really paying attention, mainly because of her incredibly adorable girlfriend whining and begging her to stay, even though they both knew how that’d turn out. Kimberly threw on a bunch of random clothes, anything she could pick from the assortment on Trini’s floor, before kissing her girlfriend quickly and rushing home, barely making it back before her mother came to ‘wake her up’.

What she hadn’t realized until she walked into school, was that the jacket she was wearing wasn’t hers. The sleeves were too short, it wasn’t long enough at the waist, it smelled faintly like pinewood and cedar, and it was bright yellow. It was Trini’s, which meant her pink shirt, and pinkish red jacket was at Trini’s, and that they had accidentally switched clothes. Kimberly didn’t mind, they’d done it before, but just in the safety of each others rooms, she liked the vague smell of Trini left on the collar, she liked how short the sleeves were too short, reminding her of how small her girlfriend was, something Trini was very defensive about, but Kimberly knew she secretly liked being the small spoon, having to stand on her tiptoes to kiss Kimberly, and wearing Kimberly’s clothes. She knew that nobody who didn’t know them personally wouldn’t notice, but she knew the boys would notice, but they didn’t know that Kim and Trini were dating, although they had been asking questions and wondering what had changed between the girls. So when Kim walks into english, which she has with Jason, she notices his eyes do a double take of the outfit, and how he narrows his eyes curiously, examining how Kim was acting, looking for any of the cues that she had been with Trini, happy, blissful, bashful. Jason wasn’t clueless, he was the team leader after all, he also knew the girls very well, noticing that they had changed in terms of friendliness, so Kim knew that he noticed she was wearing Trini’s jacket, and she waited for him to ask. Thirty minutes of class passed before he said anything.

“You’re wearing Trini’s jacket”

It wasn’t so much a question, as it was a statement. Kimberly doesn’t turn her head away from the front, she just skims over her outfit before saying.

“I guess I am.”

Jason’s face scrunches up in confusion, as he nods his head slowly, looking back at the teacher. Kimberly had to contain her smirk, she could go along with this, teasing the poor, innocent boys.

What Kim didn’t know was that Trini had also switched her clothes, wearing Kimberly’s bright pink shirt, a colour very uncommon on her, but Kimberly had no complaints. As they went on through the school day, both girls got different confused questions from the the boys like, “um isn’t that Kim’s shirt?” and “when did you decide to start wearing the colour pink?” or “yellow’s new?” The girls were both getting joy out of seeing the boys confused, and Zack very suspicious.

At the end of school, the boys confronted the girls, determined to find out what had been going on between them, ready to get their answer. As the girls were leaving school, both wearing a mix between pink and yellow, the boys stepped in front of them, Zack’s arms crossed, Jason eyes narrowing, trying to figure out what was going on, still slightly confused, and Billy, sweet sunshine child, just stood there, still very confused himself, but not really caring, a small across his face. Jason starts off.

“So…what’s going on with you two?”

He asks vaguely, gesturing between the two girls. The girls share a quick glance, small mischievous smirks pulling at their faces, as they continues to tease and act clueless.

“What do you mean red? You jealous?”

Trini teases, causing Jason to stutter, his face almost as red as his suit. He doesn’t say anything else. Zack though, Zack wasn’t afraid to press.

“You’re sharing clothes, even perfume I think. You go out on cafe dates like everyday, and you two are suddenly very close, much closer than before, so what’s happened?”

He states, not wanting to push any boundaries, knowing he’d get his ass kicked. The girls just smile, and intertwine their hands and Billy just says sweetly.

“Well if you guys are happy, we’re happy too.”

He says before clapping his hands, giving the girls a reassuring smile, but something in his eyes is telling them that he knows, that he understood, a small smirk pulling at the corners of his lips. Trini’s smirk widens as Kimberly speaks.

“Thanks Billy, and what can we say guys, we’re just your regular gal pals.”

She pats Jason’s arm, before pulling Trini’s arm as they pick up their pace, leaving the boys clueless, but not a minute later, Kimberly hears Billy say something and then Jason and Zack yell in unison.

“WAIT A MINUTE!!!”

Trini tugs Kimberly as they start to run, the boys chasing after them, questions being shouted, as they ran away, together.

When I Met A Girl

***I wrote this for my English assignment and yeah… Enjoy****

When I was seven I met a girl who made me giggle. My first
day at school and she walked up to me, her hands filled with sand, “Here, have
this, you’re my new friend.” I took it gratefully, stunned by this tiny girl
with glasses too big for her face. I carried it around with me until I was told
off; sand wasn’t allowed in the classrooms. We’d sit together and laugh and cut
out tiny pictures of animals we would tape to our tables. She’d tell me stories
of older siblings and slide her glasses up her nose right before they’d fall off
her face. I’d sit there and eat my lunch, chiming in every now and again to
tell her about my funny memories, which always resulted in her laughing so much
she began to snort.  But summer was the
best, because the sun seemed to focus on her, making her blonde hair light up
and set her apart from our other classmates, always making me smile. She’d buy
red icy-poles from the canteen and would later hold my hand with her sticky
sugar coated ones during play time. It seemed as if nothing could compare to
her gapped tooth smile and messy hair.   I remember thinking of our days as being the
best thing in the universe, having endless fun and never growing tired of silly
jokes or colouring in.

When I was ten I met a girl who made me smile. We’d sit in
her room with Avril Lavigne playing on her TV and her parents arguing from the
kitchen. I’d bring over my mum’s lipsticks and eye shadows and we’d give each
other colourful makeovers to help pass the time. She’d welcome me into her pink
room and her freckled cheeks would glow underneath our messily made blanket fort,
then we’d sing along to the music, our hands together as we danced across the
room. She embodied happiness and wore yellow flowers behind her ears, sometimes
woven into her two long braids. I remember movie nights with her feeling like
they could last forever, the morning never seeming to come as we lay in bed and
laughed at our own jokes, staying up past midnight and sneaking into the
kitchen to steal ice cream and cookies for snacks. These nights were magical
and held a kind of sacredness, nothing bad could enter our forts, nor could
parents or siblings. She gave me confidence, energy and ice cream.

When I was thirteen I met a girl who made me laugh. This
girl was fearless, she approached me with certainty and demanded that I be her
friend. She’d text me at four in the morning and we’d talk for hours on end.
This girl was my best friend, this girl was beautiful and she knew it.  She’d take me by my hand and we’d run home
from school, collapsing on her bed, laughing, as we shook off our school bags.
She’d sit me down and open up to me about the things that erased the confidence
from her eyes, she told me about her mum and car crashes and things that made
her cry. I’d hug her and tell her it would be okay, because I felt as though I
needed to protect this girl, and I wanted to make her feel secure. We would
climb trees on her uncle’s farm and she would laugh when she had to help me up
to the highest branch, before kissing me and smiling the biggest smile I had
ever seen. I’d laugh nervously, my brain buzzing and my cheeks flushed, then
she’d kiss me again and we would just sit there, staring at the sunset. “Don’t
tell my dad.” She’d always say as we climbed down. For the longest time I
didn’t know if she meant don’t tell him that we’d climbed the tree or that we’d
kissed, I figured it out the next summer when her uncle came down to the back of
the farm to call us up for lunch and found us kissing. I was sent home and when
school started she wasn’t there. My teachers told me she was sent away to live
with her aunt in New South Wales.

When I was sixteen I met a girl who made me cry. This girl
was filled with shards of glass and storms. She was a hurricane that would
bring me along and then drop me to the ground when she was done. This girl
wasn’t kind or good for me, but she was captivating, she made me feel special
and loved and important. She’d pick me up in her old, beaten car and pause to
tie her long golden hair out of her face as she told me of the night’s plans.
When I was with her there were colours, there were lights and there were fields
of experiences and firsts and the little things that mattered. She’d put her
arm around me and promise me that tonight was going to be the best night ever, and
then we’d dance for hours on end, to music neither of us had ever heard. Whenever
we went out she’d be surrounded with crowds of older boys and pretty girls, but
she always managed to look down at me with her big green eyes that told me none
of them mattered, that nothing else mattered, because we were together and the
night was young and we had a car that could take us anywhere. But this girl was
poisonous. When we were alone she’d yell and scream and push me around. She’d
fill my ears with stinging words and leave me crying on her door step at the
end of each night when she was done with me. And for whatever reason, the next
day I’d come back, and we’d go out, and she’d love me, until we went back to
her house and she’d blame me for the car breaking down, or my parents finding
out we were drinking, or for her forgetting her keys. She’d blame me and I’d be
sent away shaken and scared, but I still came back.

When I was nineteen I met a girl who made me dance. I
complimented her on the scarf she wore to class every day, she had smiled and
whispered, “My dad bought it for me from Spain,” then she looked at me properly
and leaned in closer, “You have very pretty eyes.” I blushed and thanked her,
she smirked and resumed paying attention to the lecture. This girl was amazing;
she was charismatic and could charm anyone. She knew every student and every professor.
She was smart, creative and emotional in all the right ways. She was all things
bright and all things extroverted.  This
girl was warm and this girl was lovely. She wore flowing dresses and took me to
sophisticated parties where we would stand in the corner and laugh at every one’s
ridiculous outfits, we’d get tipsy on champagne and spend the rest of the
evening in dingy cafes in the city that smelt like old smoke and pancakes. My
year with her was the best year of my life. Her dad would buy plane tickets to
fly us out to Spain to stay with him. We’d spend hundreds of dollars on
expensive Spanish food and waste hours watching street performers, dancing, and
just being in each other’s arms. She was the first girl I had fallen in love with,
and every moment with her was special, was magical, and was perfect. The night
before she left to move to Spain permanently we laid together in her bed and
cried. Eventually we stopped and I laid beside her, playing with her long red
hair as she rested her head against my shoulder, “This won’t be the end, long
distance works for a lot of people,” we’d tell each other. When she left, we
lasted for two months before we mutually agreed it wasn’t working, it took me five
months to properly recover. She was my first love.

When I was twenty-three I met a girl who made me jealous.
This girl could never love me back, this girl was the one that got away. I fell
for her despite myself. I really couldn’t help it, everything about her made me
smile; the way she covered her mouth when she laughed, how she did her makeup,
the way she cut her hair, the skirts she wore that would billow around her
every time she spun around, which was often. This girl was kind to me and took
care of me, she was my friend and was there for me when I needed her. We moved
in together and it felt like torture, I wanted so much more than what we had,
but I couldn’t have it, so I had to remain content with our current friendship,
with inside jokes and crying on each other’s shoulders. For then, it was
enough, but I couldn’t help pining. She eventually met a man, and for months I
was taken over with jealousy, why did he achieve what I could not? Soon she
moved out and moved in with him, they became engaged and I was forced to let go
of my feelings. Yet we still remain friends, and we have dinners together and
laugh about my younger self and her love stricken feelings.

When I was twenty-seven I met a girl that made me sparkle.
This girl, she was The One. She’s the girl that made time stop, that froze
everything around us every time we kissed. The girl that made my stomach fill
with butterflies and my head fill with romances. This girl was every definition
of perfect. I could stare for hours and hours and hours at this girl and her
beautiful blue eyes, at her constellations of freckles that littered her back,
I could stare and he stained lips and her short wavy hair, I could stare at
this girls tanned legs and I could listen to her angelic voice until the day I
die. I fell in love with all these, all of the beautiful perfect pieces of her.
I fell in love with her flaws also; the stretch marks pulled across her hips,
the small mole on her jaw, the scar in between her eyebrows from when she was a
child, the regretted star tattoo on her finger. Everything about her enraptured
me, she was perfect to me, and I too her. She’d surprise me in the mornings
with sweet coffee and a sweeter smile. This girl would take me on adventures I
will never forget.  She made me feel like
a million stars, she made me sparkle, she helped me love everything, she helped
me follow my passions and to realise what love felt like. This girl was lovely.

Monday.

[Y/n] pursed her lips in focus as she let her paint brush glide across her thigh, leaving a navy streak on her skin that had already been adorned with other various shapes she had outlined. Saturn was the largest and placed in the middle while other little moons floated around it, so now she decided to paint the dark starry space in the background. Her [y/h/c] hair was pulled back in a loose bun, a few paint stained strands hanging in front of her face, and she wore a pair of grey shorts with a large hoodie of the same color that she had stolen from her best friend a long time ago. As the girl continued to fill in the blank spaces left on her thigh, a knock sounded from her bedroom window. She whipped her head up to see the grinning face of Peter Parker himself, his dark eyes seemingly getting brighter when they met her own. [Y/n] just motions for him to open the window himself because she didn’t want to move from her spot on the floor, surrounded by paints.

“What are you doing?” He asks and slides into her room, closing the window.

“I could be asking you the same question, did you forget I have a front door?” She shakes her head with a small smile.

“It’s more fun this way. What are you doing though? I thought you wanted to study.” His brows furrowed as he drops his backpack on the floor and approaches her.

A blush creeps onto his features when he takes in her attire, his hoodie basically swallowing her form and just barely concealing her shorts. He remembered giving her the sweater, the two were watching movies together on a particularly cold autumn night. His eyes caught onto the goosebumps covering her arms and the shivers she would get every few minutes, Peter knew [y/n] would never ask for a sweater on her own (she was just too stubbornly nice at that point in their friendship) so he just got up and grabbed it for her out of his closet. When he saw her wearing it to school the next day, the thought of taking it back didn’t even come to mind.

“Well, I got bored waiting for you and not like I was going to genuinely study anyways. Come on, Pete, what do you take me for? You can study at me if you’d like.” She smirked and finished filling in the blank spaces, she of course then opted for a smaller brush and began dotting white stars on the navy.

“Study at you? What does that even mean?” He chuckled and pulled a notebook out of his backpack.

“Read shit and like say it outloud, I can like soak it up like a sponge. Audio osmosis.” She shrugged, giving a made up explanation as she began to finish her thigh painting.

“I don’t think that’s how any of what you just said works. And audio osmosis isn’t even remotely a thing. Do you even know what osmosis means? Cause that’s actually a word you need to know for the test.” [Y/n] rolled her eyes.

“Yes, I know what osmosis means. I’m not completely hopeless- hold up!” Her [y/e/c] eyes went wide rather quickly as an idea popped into her head.

“Pete, take off your shirt.” His face went red at her request that came out as more of an order.

“Wha- w-why?” He stuttered.

“Cause I wanna paint on your back. Dude, it’ll get so many likes on Insta!” She excitedly proclaimed and got up off of the floor to grab more of her paints and brushes located in various jars around her room.

“I mean, o-okay. But, only if we can study after. I really don’t want you to fail this test, considering I could have done something about it.” She nodded eagerly at his request, too focused on what she was going to paint to really listen to what he was saying.

After gathering all the materials she needed, [y/n] gave him an expectant look. With his cheeks still tainted with pink, he complied and took off his shirt to reveal a way more chiseled torso than she could have ever expected. Her eyes trailed over his muscled arms to his defined chest and abs.

“Wow.”

“[Y/n]?”

She looked up and once the two met eyes they both blushed and looked away. The girl just awkwardly coughed and pointed at the floor, for him to sit. Words not quite able to force themselves out of her mouth. And after he nodded and sat down, she positioned herself behind him and immediately began painting. Various shades of yellow and orange covered his skin, muscles in his back responding to the cold liquid-like substance now being placed there. The usually comfortable silence the two could usually fall into was now interrupted by something else in the air that neither of them could recognize. [Y/n] had no idea why she reacted the way she had. Maybe it was because she just expected him to be a skinny nerd under his Star Wars t-shirt, but it turned out that he was actually an olympic swimmer. When she convinced herself of that, other thoughts soon came flooding in. Like how Peter wasn’t that bad-looking. It never really came to mind about how attractive her best friend was until this moment, this very inopportune moment to reach that assumption. She still continued painting however, yellow sunflowers and daisies covering his back like a floral blanket, like nature’s little swirls of sun pigmenting the top of his skin.

“Did you bring your camera?” She pierced the void of silence and both of them stood at the same time.

“Yeah.” He turned around, almost stepping straight into her on the way.

She stared up at him slowly before clearing her throat and stepping aside, “Get it then, Nerd. I wanna show you what it looks like.”

A confused expression crossed his face, but he listened and reached for his backpack on the floor. It wasn’t a surprise that [y/n] responded to the situation with a derogatory nickname instead of being normal, since when could she be a normal human being in slightly awkward situations?

Peter handed her his camera and turned around, allowing the girl to take a picture of her art.

“Do you like it? I really think yellow is your color.” She gave the camera back to him and a smile grew on his features.

“[Y/n], it’s awesome!” He proclaimed and hugged his best friend tightly while she left her arms hanging to not touch the paint covering his back.

Her hands rested on his chest and slightly pushed the two apart, his arms still resting around her waist. Their noses were close to touching and his soft brown eyes gazed into her own before glancing down at her lips for a split-second. She blushed with conflicted, wide, eyes and coughed loudly before taking a step back,

“So um, we should study now.”

YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB ON MY PROMPT!Another: Trini thumps a helmet onto a little girl's head and ushers her to the 'arena.' "Alright warrior, beat the fu-" "TRINI!" Jason rolls his eyes from the outside of the playpen, the word 'SECURITY' showing through his crossed arms. Trini grumbles as the carnival owner's daughter lets out a loud laugh from her station at the water slides. Stupid Kimberly Hart and her stupid hot pink bikini bottom showing underneath her 'life guard' tank top.

The Hart Family Fun Center, the only all year ‘round, indoor carnival in Angel Grove was thoroughly crowded with screaming children in the middle of summer. Trini had to admit that she could have a worse job, it paid well and the place was air conditioned, but the children left something to be desired.

“Alright, alright, everyone out, we gotta get the next batch in,” Trini calls before blowing her whistle watching all of the kid run up to her partner, Zack to hand back the helmets and the foam swords to be sprayed with sanitizer.

Her and her friend ran an attraction known as the Arena; a sort of water slide where kids were a part of two teams, one that guarded the tower and one that was supposed to try and get up it and slide down to the bottom to get points.

“Eww, no girls!” A boy on the tower yells as a little girl steps up to Trini, a frown on her lips.

Trini turns to glare at the boy, grabbing a yellow helmet from the stack. “Don’t listen to him,” She murmurs, fitting the head gear onto the child with a smile. “Now, pick out your sword,”

The little girl moves to grab a pink sword from the pile, grinning up at Trini who thumps the top of her helmet gently. “Alright warrior, go and beat the fu-” She’s cut off when one of the security kids yells at her. “I uh-go win, kid,” She corrects, looking away from the blonde boy, Jason.

She pretends to focus on starting up the fight music, but is stopped by Jason himself, his arms crossed over his red shirt, hiding the bold text of his title. “You know better,” he says, as though they’re friends and not just co-workers.

“Yeah, yeah,” Trini mumbles, rolling her eyes as a loud laugh echoes across the room from the large wave pool across the way.

She doesn’t have to look up to know its Kimberly fucking Hart, the owner’s daughter and the head life guard at the park. “I won’t do it again, now get back to whatever you’re supposed to be doing, I’ve got kids to watch.”

She turns around to make sure the right track is playing, trying to ignore the giggles still coming from the Hart girl, with her stupid pink bikini poking out from under her stupid red life guard tank top.

Trini forces her attention back to the Arena, watching proudly as the little girl makes her way to the slide, a grin on her face as the boy from earlier lays in the shallow pool of water below the tower. As soon as  the round is over and the little girl has returned her helmet, Trini walks over to her and places a few golden tokens into her hand. “You can get something nice at the prize counter with those,”

“Thank you, ma’am!” The child exclaims, wrapping her arms around Trini’s waist for a moment before running off to a smiling father outside of the playpen.

She watches them walk away before turning to Zack. “I think it’s time for a break, I’ll be back in ten,” Trini smiles, not really giving him a chance to say no before she’s walking toward the locker room.

Trini settles down on one of the benches after grabbing her bag, cracking open an energy drink. “Those are bad for you, you know,” An annoyingly familiar voice sounds, even as Trini starts to chug the can, trying to ignore Kimberly.

She finishes about half the can, only to find Kim sitting next to her, brows raised. “What do you want, Kim?” Trini asks, annoyance clear in her voice.

“I just wanted to say it was cute, what you did for that little girl,” Kim replies, shrugging her shoulder a bit as she reaches over to grab the can from Trini, taking a drag.

Trini scoffs, taking the drink back from the other girl, finishing it with narrowed eyes. “Thought you didn’t like energy drinks,” She says, crushing the can against the bench.

“I never said that, I just said they were bad for you,” Kim says, getting up to stretch. “Never pegged you for one to share drinks,” She muses, leaning against the lockers.

“I doubt you have anything that can be transferred through sharing a drink,” Trini snorts, trying to ignore how good Kimberly looks lounging in front of her.

“I think you just wanted an indirect kiss from me,” The taller girl suggests, a smirk on her stupidly perfect lips.

Trini can feel her face heating up at the thought, but manages to find a come back. “This isn’t some bullshit anime, Hart, no one actually thinks about stuff like that,” She huffs, standing up to shove her bag back into her locker.

She can feel the other girl’s eyes on her as she pretends to dig for something, when in reality she’s hoping the blood will drain from her face enough that she won’t get shit from Zack upon her return.

“Trini,” Kim says from the other side of the locker door, the sound of her own name making the shorter girl shiver slightly. “Why are you hiding?”

Trini takes a breath before slamming the door closed, coming face to face with the cause of her frustrating crush. “I’m not hiding, I was hoping I had a protein bar in there,” She lies, eyes narrowing at the brunette.

“You’re a shit liar,” Kim murmurs, taking a step closer to Trini, a slight smirk on her lips. “Just admit that you want to kiss me.”

The smaller girl swallows hard, the close proximity of the life guard forcing Trini to look up at her. “Why are you such an asshole?” She forces herself to say, grinding her teeth.

“I’m the asshole? I’ve been trying to flirt with you since you started here!” Kim shouts, causing Trini to jump at the sudden volume change. “And all you can do is be a grumpy little shit!”

“You call teasing me every day flirting?! What the fuck?” Trini retorts, jabbing a finger at Kim’s chest.

“I just…you’re all stoic and shit…what else was I supposed to do?” Kim mumbles, looking away from the smaller girl.

“You could just ask me out,” Trini replies, grabbing the taller girl’s chin gently, making Kim look at her.

Kim bites her lip for a moment, her brow furrowing. “I guess…” She sighs softly, smiling a bit. “Wanna get dinner later?”

“I suppose so,” Trini grins, standing on her toes to press their lips together.

“It’s about time,”

Voltron goes back to it’s Toei Super Sentai Roots in Season 4

So in Episode 4 (or 11 if you go by the idea that this is still part of the 3rd season) The Voltron Show! We get to see some of Toei’s influence and the influence of Super Sentai into the Voltron Series.

As most know Voltron (Go Lion) was created by Toei Animation. Toei is also the company that created Super sentai (or Power Rangers) and used some of that in Go lion back in the day. (Five man band, the one chick in pink, poses, monster of the week, etc.)

So Studio Mir and Dreamworks seemed to want to give a nod to this past in giving us an episode where they used the tradition of the Super Sentai stage show (used to promote the series that is playing, coming out, or just finished) to kids and fans alike. These shows are pretty much action plays, and what the group is doing on stage, is what they are like.

I’d like to note that there are several poses that show up and from which Super Sentai Shows they are referencing.

Flashman was an early series from Toei. The funny thing is that Allura is taking on Green’s role and Pidge is taking on allura’s pink. This is rather significant because back in the day there was only normally one female and she was pink, white or once in a while blue. It was only when Power Rangers made it two girls that the other girl usually took on yellow. Also a nod to the fact that Pidge in Go lion is male as is the green ranger here.

While this one is based on the Second Season of Power Rangers, I have a feeling it’s also based upon Zyuranger (power Ranger’s name in Japan) and possibly one of the poses that was done in promtion of the series.

Goggle V is one of the earlier series, and Voltron outright copied this one.

I can’t for the life of me tell which one this one is from. It’s not Jaqk (one of the earliest sentai series) but it seems rather to be one of the older series. Not sure. If anyone knows what series this pose is from, please let me know.

So yeah…there you go. Power Rangers in Voltron.

When you got to the doctor’s office, you both sat comfortably in silence while waiting for your name to be called. You kept your hands rested over your still somewhat tiny, but surely there baby bump with your head resting on your lover’s shoulder. Mark would occasionally kiss your head while placing one of his hands over your stomach protectively, his other arm draped over your shoulders to keep you both close to him.

When you were called back, he would be really excited, really smiley (with that damn perfect disrespectful ass..smile..), waiting for the ob-gyn to tell you the news.

He was so enthused when he got to put the ooze over your tummy, you swear that he couldn’t possibly be the eldest member of his group.

In the next few moments of checking over the baby’s growth, it was time to expose the gender of your awaiting child.

Looks like we’re having a..,” the technician spoke, looking over the monitor that was grazing over the life inside of you, “a little baby boy! Congratulations.”

Mark would be ecstatic, he wouldn’t even let you guys get into the car before he started telling you about all the things he he start buying, and how he would teach you guys’ son how to skateboard and ride his first bike, and that he was going to be the biggest mommy’s boy because he’s going to love you just as much as he loves you if not more.

By this time you were six months pregnant. Jaebum would be leading you to the studio where the reveal was going to happen in front of the other members and some other close friends.

Jinyoung handed you both a large white and opaque balloon with a black string attached. The goal was to pop the balloon and confetti inside would reveal the gender of your future child. Yellow for a girl, and orange for a boy because fuck gender norms for pink and blue defining genders.

Jaebum bent down to kiss the top of your swollen stomach. You two were the most important people in his life and he wasn’t afraid to show affection in front of you guys’ friends or anyone for that matter.

Jinyoung gave you both the balloon.

“3, 2, 1!”

The balloon was popped by the effort of both of you, yellow confetti raining over the both of you, revealing that you were expecting a baby girl. Jaebum was the definition of more than excited when he found out that you were giving him a little girl, going down to his knees and kissing where he would presume her tiny feet were on your stomach, expressing how happy he was and that he loved both of you.

“I’m going to be the dad of a princess.”

You and Jackson were very excited. Especially Jackson because he could finally have a Jackson baby/Wang Puppy to call his own. Since he was so excited, he wanted to basically debut to the world what you both would be having. He would want a huge reveal party and even though his vision seemed a little too big, he made it happen to your surprise.

He would’ve been keeping a subtle hint countdown on his instagram leading up to the reveal of the gender for his fans.

When the day came, he went live, having set up fireworks to reveal the gender of the life growing inside of you. You both would gather in a special VIP area, fans crowding behind you to watch the fireworks. At first just for show they were white and sparkling in the night with the stars; that was just before the fireworks would turn blue for the boy you both were going to have.

Wang puppy! Wang puppy Y/n!” he would scream in excitement, holding onto you with his hands placed protectively over your stomach.

He would later send out an update on Instagram exposing the endless amount of gifts he already prepared for your son.

Jinyoung and you being such a traditional couple, would love to have a commonly traditional reveal. You would want a cupcake reveal, having told one of your parents to prepare the mini cakes’ coloring and such for you both to bite into.

You were beyond excited to know the gender of your baby, Jinyoung was as well; not caring whether it were a boy or girl, being proud to be a father either way.

Both of you would be standing in front of close friends and family when you were given the okay to bite into your individual cupcakes. You hooked arms with your loving husband, both biting into your cupcakes simultaneously, looking into the middle where the frosting was a vibrant pink, indicating that you both would be greeting a little princess into the world.

A baby girl! Ahhh!” Jackson would be screaming in the background, absolutely excited with his maknae’s that they would become uncles to a girl.

Youngjae

He would be very happy; everday expressing how happy he was and cracking the ultimate dad jokes already. You were literally expressing how hungry you were for certain cravings and he would respond “Hi hungry, I’m Youngjae!”. Of course it would give you a fit of giggles but you also wanted him to hurry to give you some chicken and waffles, otherwise he’d be dealing with a grumpy pregnant wife.

When it came time to reveal the baby’s gender however, the nurse accidentally told you at your latest appointment that Youngjae couldn’t attend; so you figured it would be a reveal for him more so.

The way you were going to reveal the gender of this baby was all fun and games but was hard to conceal considering you needed Coco’s help.

When it was time, your sunshine would come home ecstatic from a long day at the studio, ready to cuddle you, the baby, and Queen Coco, and ask you how your day and appointment went. You knew Youngjae was loud but you didn’t know he could scream as loud as he did when he saw Coco’s white fur dyed lavendar.

Why is Coco lavender y/n?!” he would whine and pick her up, looking over her new color of fur, “I can never leave you home again by yourself with this monster, how could you do this to her?

Because, pink and blue make purple sunshine,” you grinned, rubbing over your stomach, “pink and blue for a boy and a girl.

“And? Which is it y/n?”

“Twins sunshine.”

He would let out a screech of excitement, bouncing up and down with Coco, telling you that purple suits the Queen very well.

Bambam wouldn’t know what to do with himself with all this waiting. He would already have been buying all these types of decorations and blankets and toys, all gender neutral until the time came where he would find out whether or not he was having a bouncing baby boy or a beautiful princess, baby girl.

The way both of you decided was best to reveal the gender of your baby was through a small get together. It was going to be one of the reveal’s where you’d have balloons released from a box to tell you the gender of your upcoming baby.

His mother would be the only one knowing the baby’s gender and having set the whole prop up.

When it finally came time to sit down with your husband beside you, hand around your waist yet still lying over your stomach.

Everyone waited and finally the countdown was on. 3, 2, 1!

Blue balloons raised through the air, causing the screeches of excitement to fill the large backyard.

We’re having a boy Y/n!” he would shout as he kissed your cheek over and over again.

He would want a subtle way to tell his fans about the gender of you guys’ baby. He’d want his hair dyed that color. It would still be a surprise to him, being away from all possible give away mirrors and such that would give away the color of his hair and the gender of your baby.

The whole time it was getting dyed, he would be smiling in excitement, waiting for the big reveal, constantly asking could he look already.

I can’t wait any longer jagiya, give me a hint~,” he would say nearly every five minutes.

Finally, his hair was blown dried and style to the usual perfection and he was given the mirror of truth. When he looked back at his reflection, a wide grin broke out on his face at the newly dyed pink hair that was on top of his head. One reason was that it looked good and the other because he’d be having a baby girl with the love of his life.

“We’re having a little baby bear!”

Soon he would place a selca on instagram with his newly dyed hair; and a caption about how excited he was.

I.
they tell us early on
no touching no touching no touching
examine our own bodies for cause of death
we are coroner
herded and cornered
always hugging corners
we hug behind corners
we slip sneak slide somewhere with no security cameras no nurses no eyes
clutch each other fast and furtive
there are half moon fingernail indents in my arm when we let go

II.
they give us candy sometimes at the end of group session
laffy taffy tootsie roll take as many as you can
bitten fingers stained with greed
teeth caught in growl
confiscated necklaces painted gold
children with not enough give to get
we slide each other stolen starbursts
only pink ones never yellow
tells me she was raped when she was twelve
press a sugar packet into her trembling fingers

III.
everything is safety proofed
rounded open breathable
one girl sings another screams
treatment hopeful to succeed
no perfume now just hospital scent
puke at two a.m. while someone sings
we stop noticing the teeth in our smiles
too loud laughs with ragged edges
“this your first time in?”

“no.”

The Burners and the stereotypes they break.

Mike Chilton

  • A tragic past makes a brooding loner. (He is a positive, outgoing person who sees his teammates as family.)
  • The leader is always an uptight stick in the mud. (Mike is the exact opposite of this.)

Chuck

  • The white guy is always the hero. (Chuck would rather avoid that kind of danger.)
  • Too afraid to participate. (Even though it terrifies him, he always rides shotgun with Mike.)

Julie Kane

  • Only girl on the team = pink everything. (Her car is YELLOW.)
  • People with connections to the enemy are morally ambiguous. (Julie has made it clear that she doesn’t support what her father does.)
  • “My parents are evil, therefore, I hate them. (Julie cares about her dad and wants to believe he can change.)
  • Two female characters have to be rivals for a man’s attention. (Julie and her friend Claire pass the bechdel test every time they’re on screen together.)

Dutch Gordy

  • The black guy dies first. (There is an entire episode dedicated to breaking this one.)
  • Only there to check off the diversity box. (Dutch is the only character on the show who comes close to having a full backstory.)

Texas

  • Strong = big. (Except for Julie, Texas is the shortest one on the team.)
  • Guys don’t like girls who are stronger than them. (Texas is attracted to powerful women.)
  • The dumb jock. (You need a functioning brain to come up with the kind of ideas Texas has.)
  • Asian = martial arts master. (He usually just shoots his attacker.)

Burners in general

  • The end justifies the means. (They refuse to let stopping Kane justify hurting innocent people.)
