tw: misogynist language

anonymous asked:

If you're still accepting prompts for this meme, I wish you would write a fic where Jack drops his gloves (bonus points if he's totally unapologetic about it, and double bonus if Bitty tries to be disapproving but isn't in the least.) Thanks for all the lovely fic you've written!

TW for misogynistic and homophobic language, and fighting.

“You are such a fucking pussy!”

O’Sullivan was still cursing as the ref skated him to the box, while Poots made his way, nearly doubled over, to the Falconers’ bench. Jack glared at O’Sullivan all the way into the box, but he kept silent. It wasn’t worth risking a penalty of his own and negating the Falconers’ power play.

Jack watched Poots make his way from the bench down the tunnel, accompanied by a trainer, then won the face-off. Thirty seconds later, the Falconers had scored to take the lead and O’Sullivan was back on the ice. Poots had not returned to the bench. It didn’t seem fair.

That’s the way it usually went when the Falconers played the Bruins, especially in Boston. There was a natural rivalry, with the teams being so close geographically and a sense that the Providence team was on the way up while the Bruins were going through a rough few seasons.

Most of the guys in Boston were fine; Jack was even friendly with a few. But every time they played, O’Sullivan couldn’t – wouldn’t – keep his mouth shut. He seemed to think getting under other players’ skin was part of his game, and the misogynistic slurs weren’t the half of it. He made comments about Jack using drugs and being crazy, and he used every derogatory word for gay that Jack could think of, and racial and ethnic slurs weren’t off the table either.

angryirene said: One of the things to look at is how men react / what they mean when they use these insults internally to their gender (ie men insulting other men). Dudes calling each other dicks or bastards is nowhere near on the same level of insulting as calling another man a bitch / pussy / cunt / etc. It’s a false equivalency. The female gendered insults are WAY worse.

Yep.

Language ahead

I usually try to keep things pleasant (if passive aggressive. I’m not perfect.) around here because who doesn’t like to laugh and smile and joke and have a good time, but I just want to be clear that I am under zero obligation to interact with/be kind to someone who once (more than once, I believe, but I’ve only got the one screencap saved so let’s say once) referred to me and my friends as cunts. I don’t go out of my way to “get back at” or attack that person, because I don’t care that much, but it’s not my job to be like “hey everyone, be nice” or say “heya, I feel like there is some unnecessary animosity here, why don’t you give me your point of view.” I got their point of view once, that’s enough for me at this juncture.

SO YEAH while theoretically the whole “fandom positivity” goes both ways, historically for us it has not, so I’m gonna go ahead and keep doing my own thing.

Now back to the regularly scheduled nonsense.

oh, fyi--if you're reading the scanlations, there's some pretty gross misogynistic language (eren calling mikasa a bitch? really, you guys?) that isn't in the original japanese. basically shitty sexist scanlators mess everything up.

yeah, someone warned me about that. I generally don’t assume the misogynistic language was in the original most of the time- scanlators and even dubbers like to be *edgggY*. 9 times out of ten “bitch” is just some saying “you” in a rude way.

I think my “favorite” was when the scanlators had a guy attacking the female titan says “die slut”. LIKE REALLY. CALLING A 90 FOOT MONSTROSITY KILLING EVERYTHING A SLUT. I’M TOTALLY SURE THAT’S WHAT HE SAID IN THE ORIGINAL TOTALLY SOUNDS LIKE WHAT YOU’D YELL AT A FREAKIN’ HORROR MOVIE MONSTER.
