TW FOR MISOGYNIST LANGUAGE THANKS A LOT HAMLET, I LOVE THIS PLAY BUT MAN IS IT CONFUSED ABOUT WOMEN OR WHAT. Laertes, foil that he is, has already gotten started with the political part of the proposition. Hamlet would like to work through the personal issues first (spoiler alert: he won’t succeed)
Ed: My parents died well one did the other one left. :( *cries*
Fandom: omg poor baby
Winry: My parents died *cries*
Fandom: BITCH SHUT UP YOU’RE SO WHINY
Ed: i sort of lost my limbs and my brother’s body um i guess i’ll go on a journey and get them back IT WILL BE A HARD AND LONELY JOURNEY
Fandom: so tragic and heroic
Winry: well my best friend lost his limbs so i did surgery for him and gave him limbs even though it meant he’d have to go away and I run the risk of losing more family but I will support him no matter what and also work to be the best mechanic i can be.
Fandom: you are so useless and whiny
Ed: I kinda throw temper tantrums a lot (and cry in 2003) and do stupid shit because I get carried away by my emotions on a regular basis
Fandom: tough hero!
Winry: I’ll cry for you since you won’t cry for yourself
FANDOM: OVEREMOTIONAL CONSTANT CRIER ALL YOU DO IS CRY
I usually try to keep things pleasant (if passive aggressive. I’m not perfect.) around here because who doesn’t like to laugh and smile and joke and have a good time, but I just want to be clear that I am under zero obligation to interact with/be kind to someone who once (more than once, I believe, but I’ve only got the one screencap saved so let’s say once) referred to me and my friends as cunts. I don’t go out of my way to “get back at” or attack that person, because I don’t care that much, but it’s not my job to be like “hey everyone, be nice” or say “heya, I feel like there is some unnecessary animosity here, why don’t you give me your point of view.” I got their point of view once, that’s enough for me at this juncture.
SO YEAH while theoretically the whole “fandom positivity” goes both ways, historically for us it has not, so I’m gonna go ahead and keep doing my own thing.
oh, fyi--if you're reading the scanlations, there's some pretty gross misogynistic language (eren calling mikasa a bitch? really, you guys?) that isn't in the original japanese. basically shitty sexist scanlators mess everything up.
yeah, someone warned me about that. I generally don’t assume the misogynistic language was in the original most of the time- scanlators and even dubbers like to be *edgggY*. 9 times out of ten “bitch” is just some saying “you” in a rude way.
I think my “favorite” was when the scanlators had a guy attacking the female titan says “die slut”. LIKE REALLY. CALLING A 90 FOOT MONSTROSITY KILLING EVERYTHING A SLUT. I’M TOTALLY SURE THAT’S WHAT HE SAID IN THE ORIGINAL TOTALLY SOUNDS LIKE WHAT YOU’D YELL AT A FREAKIN’ HORROR MOVIE MONSTER.
this “nonbinary” woman has a tattoo that says “BAD BITCH”, and is a
“slut” for inclusive feminism. female pronouns and reality
as a female is a hell no but female-specific misogynist slurs are all
systems go. k.
