Mackenzie River ice, Tulit'a, Northwest Territories. It is hard to explain how it feels to look down through 7-9 feet of ice. As you move over the cracks you can see the massive expanse of solid glass which you are suspended above. In some places it feels like there is a huge void and only an inch of ice is supporting you and in others you can see a crack drop below your feet and disappear meters below. The sensation is not really well represented in the photos, though they are beautiful in their own right.
We had the most amazing aurora displays last night! Joe helped me take photos and we got some really nice ones. I am so excited. I have been waiting to take photos of the northern lights for so long. Tulit'a, Northwest Territories, February 14th, 2013.
