trundholm sun chariot

Ancient Chariot of the Sun, Bronze Age, circa 1700 BCE

Trundholm, Denmark

A 4,000-year-old bronze horse seems to pull a golden sun-disc across the heavens. The gilded spirals on the sun may have been a calendar or astronomical model (?)

Discovered buried in a peat bog in Denmark in 1902.

The Trundholm sun chariot. Discovered in 1902 in a Danish bog, this Bronze Age sculpture may represent the sun being drawn through the sky by a horse. Fashioned out of bronze the disk has a diameter of circa 25 cm and is gilded on one side in sheet gold
