# trouble in the sky

Would there be a scientific way to determine how far Team Rocket would need to blast off to disappear into the sky? – Requested by @jc-75

Prepare for trouble, and make it double! If you are part of the pokémon fandom, you probably know Jessie, James, and Meowth’s motto by heart. Equally famous, however, is the fact that Team Rocket “blasts off” a lot. Nearly once every episode, Team Rocket is hurled into the sky, disappearing in a tiny sparkle.

Things look smaller the farther away they are: that much everyone knows. The relationship is not linear, however: something that is twice as far away does not necessarily appear twice as small. The numbers are actually related through angles and trigonometry: sines, cosines, and tangents.

Because of that, for this problem we want to use angular distances. Angular distance is a measurement of how much of your field of vision something covers. A full circle is 360 degrees. A full moon, for example, has an angular diameter of about 0.5 degrees: it covers half a degree in the sky.

Angles can be divided up into smaller units. There are 60 arcminutes in one degree, and 60 arcseconds in one arcminute. The human eye has an angular resolution of 1 arcminute (0.02 degrees). That is the smallest thing we can see in the sky: If something covers less than 1 arcminute, or eye can no longer detect it and it effectively disappears from view, like Team Rocket fading into the sky.

So: how far away does Team Rocket have to be to cover less than 1 arcminute in angular distance? I can’t find any official heights for Jessie and James, so I will estimate 6′0″ (1.8 meters) as an upper limit. After that, it’s just about drawing triangles.

Using 1 arcminute as the angular distance and 1.8 m as the height, you can easily solve for distance. Team Rocket effectively disappears at a distance of 6188 meters (3.84 miles).

Angular resolution is dependent on the size of the eyeball, so pokémon with large eyes like Claydol or Froakie would be able to see Team Rocket farther away than that. But for humans, that’s how far Team Rocket needs to blast off to disappear.

## Team Rocket blasts off at least 6188 meters (3.84 miles) away in order to disappear from view.

May your tears turn into laughter, may your troubles turn into victories, and may your dreams become reality. Happy 2017!

Nature is woman’s best friend,’ she often said. ‘If you’re having troubles, you just swim in the water, stretch out in a field, or look up at the stars. That’s how a woman cures her fears’.

Does anyone else get really frustrated with temporary titles? Like, you need something to call your WIP and somehow, you just sit on it forever, and that’s your silly sounding title and you can’t seem to come up with an actual title but you hate the temporary one?

I joined Inktober this year, I’m trying to maintain the pace, but I have to admit it’s, indeed, quite a challenge !

I plan to dedicate this year’s edition to my Babayaga’s project ! If you feel like it, stay tuned for more !

## I MAY HAVE JUST FOUND THE RHINKIEST SONG OF ALL TIME????

(Like not even just romantic rhink, platonic rhink too like this is just RandL and I’m dying)

Lyrics:

How long have I known you, brother
Hundreds of lives, thousands of years
How many miles have we wandered
Under the sky, chasing our fear

Some kind of trouble is coming
Don’t know when, don’t know what
I will stand by you, brother
‘Til the daylight comes or I’m dead and gone

I’ve shared my life with you, brother
Since I recall, you’ve been my friend
You say we’re not like the others
Still we must die, all things must end

I know we can’t stop what’s coming
But I will try, oh how I’ll try!
Will you fight with me, brother
One last time, one last fight

Don’t turn away, don’t tell me that we’re not the same
We face the fire together, brothers 'til the end
Don’t run away, our time will come but not today
I stand beside you, brother, with you 'til the end

Don’t turn away, don’t tell me that we’re not the same
We face the fire together, brothers 'til the end
Don’t run away, our time will come but not today
I stand beside you, brother, with you 'til the end

Counting the Moments Until I See You Again

Nessian Soldier AU- One shot

Inspired by Iibera by Mattia Cupelli (listen to it while reading this, it makes the difference)

Hope you enjoy!

They lied in an open field of daisies. Felt the petals brush against their skin. The softness reminding them that time was moving faster than their hearts could catch up. The breeze blew gently, and the flowers swayed, dancing with the harmonious wind. The delicate scent coated their noses in perfume.

Their hands brushed against each other, memorizing every line of their imperfect skin. Their shoulders touched, side by side. As close together as the sky and the ground below them. The space between them, even the most minimal amount, felt an ocean apart. A feeling they would know all too well.

The man, with the soft expression and relaxed stance, gazed at the woman without. Her stormy eyes made even the most peaceful sky look troubled. His fingertips collided with hers, tracing patterns on the palm of her hand. The tingling made her want to memorize his touch.

She turned to face him as he did the same. Synchronous movement showing the heavens that they too, were one and the same. Two beating hearts, two gentle souls, two people who only yearned to be held by the other. To never let go.

She closed her eyes, and his nose brushed against her own. She wanted to remember his presence. The feeling of his body pressed against hers, the smell of his skin. The way his shirt caressed his strong torso, and the deep rise and fall of his chest. The way her heart seemed to jump out of her chest at the beat of his own. Her eyes could not contain the complete reverence she held for him.

His thumb grasped the tear before it made a path down her perfect face. It didn’t matter that the Earth stood still, that the birds held off on singing, that the sky was clear just for them. It didn’t matter that the flowers bloomed and swayed in a whispered hello to the humans before them. The tears spilling from her eyelids made all the difference, told a story she didn’t need to voice aloud. He fell into a pit so far under, he didn’t think he’d ever resurface.

“I don’t want you to go.” Her voice soft and small. A secret only he and the wind could hear. An impossible want from the both of them. He didn’t want to ever let her go. The daisies crowned her in an array of whites and yellows, a queen among the land of forgotten sunshine.

He sat up, bringing her with him. Face to face, eye to eye. He picked the prettiest daisy he could find. One fully bathed in daylight. He opened her palm and laid the daisy in her hand. “Every petal is how much I’m thinking about you.” His forehead rested against hers and his hands held her beautiful face. “Every leaf is how much I care about you.” He closed his eyes and the sound of his voice caressed her skin. Her nose met his. “Every flower is how much I want to be near you.” His soft lips met hers in a warm embrace.

She grasped the stem firmly, held onto it even if her hands shook. Hazel eyes bet blue ones. The warm earth meeting the sky in a connection so strong, not even time or distance could separate them. “Just count them until I see you again.”

Their hands clasped, holding onto the flower together. As firm as the ground beneath their feet. It would take her forever to count all the daisies in the field, and when spring came again there would be more still. The idea left her breathless. The daisies would remind her that they were always two souls meant to entwine, meant to dance to an exquisite symphony. They would never leave each other, time and space forgotten.

They would never let go.

Not even when their hands were no longer holding the other’s.

I had to write this, I just had to. The music was just too beautiful.

A feeling of breathtaking awe washed over Mario’s contented consciousness as he tread lightly across the sandy beach, the feeling of warm sand between his toes only serving to further relax his body. His eyes were drawn to the crystalline blue waves gently rustling in the calming nighttime breeze, reflecting the starry heavens like a galactic gateway to another world.

“It really makes-a you feel nice, doesn’t it?He muttered softly as he took gentle hold of his brother’s arm and led him closer to the wet shores. From there, he spotted the reflection of the bright full moon sparkling on the rolling water surface, which in turn prompted him to raise his eyes to the starry skies. “Wow…”

Magnus Chase fic excerpt

Amir waited until Magnus wasn’t inhaling the food before he spoke up. “Is something up? You look beat.”

“Nah, it’s just friends causing trouble.”

“Trouble? Like just friends being trouble, or…” He gestured vaguely to the sky. “…that kind of trouble?”

“The first one.” Magnus sighed. “You remember Sam’s sibling, Alex?” At Amir’s nod, he continued. “Everyone keeps thinking that I like her-my floormates, my sword, even Thor!”

Magnus kept talking. “And the thing is, I’m straight! Alex isn’t a girl all of the time! So I wouldn’t be attracted to her-I don’t know why they think I am!”

“Wait, Alex as in the one with green hair? Because I remember you staring at her a lot. Or is this a different Alex?”

“Yes, this is green hair Alex, but you’re not helping.” Magnus got up from his chair and began to pace. “Just because I stare at her sometimes doesn’t mean anything. I can appreciate how nice a person looks, no matter their gender! Plus, she looks good all the time-why can’t I just look at her without people thinking I’m gay for her?”

I’m having way too much fun writing this one lmao
