trend alerts

In honor of the incredible witch we have gotten to love for the past 8 years I thought to say thank you, we should trend on Twitter. So, if you are a fan of Bonnie Sheila Bennett then it would be amazing if you could participate to thank the amazing Kat Graham for portraying our judgmental badass witch.

We will be trending Friday March 10th 7pm EST, 9pm Brazil, March 11th in the UK 12am and 11am AEDT. The hashtag will be #ThankYouBonBon and we will be trending for roughly 2 hours as well as throughout the final episode.

I ask you to join, no matter if you ship Bonnie with Damon, Enzo, Kai, Nora or whoever! This is a time to appreciate Bonnie, so go on your twitter and trend with us or make a twitter account just for the sake of trending with us. Share your favourite Bonnie moments and talk endlessly about how amazing she is. This is the final time to do something like this and I would love for as many fans to participate as possible.

And thank you to Nisha (@bonneibennett) for making the beautiful banner above!

Trend Alert: The Power Suit (Yes, the Future Is Female)

The future is female! Hot off the fall 2017 runway the power suit trend is quickly emerging this season. In a time of political unrest designers are strongly vocalizing their support for female power through design. Taking a cue from Melanie Griffith’s character in “Working Girl” the power suit is feminine and fun. Brock Collection shows us romantic red and white gingham, while Altuzarra’s take on the power suit comes in bold stripes with fur-lined collars. Have fun, be bold, and remember the future is female.

@ tumblr user “people who complain about background rosemary should learn how to use a fucking search engine lol”:

the issue isn’t that we don’t know how to fucking filter john/dave and dave/kat from the search results. miss me with that condescending bullshit. (set aside that the filter would eliminate more than half of the rosemary content, which to me would seem to suggest a problem with representation that for some reason you don’t see.) the issue is that f/f couples are systematically marginalized in fandom content, or at best, play second fiddle to m/m and m/f couples. the “background lesbians” trope is one of the most infamous in gay rep; i.e., the f/f couple that exists only to check a box for f/f representation, and either romanticizes or neglects completely the actuality of sapphic relationships.

rose and kanaya are often reduced to the perfect, indestructible power couple that do all the traditionally feminine emotional weightlifting for whatever m/m pair of choice the author actually wants to write about. they appear for less than a fraction of the story, teach dave strider all the secrets of heteronormativity, and steal away into some distant corner of the meteor, like lesbian Dumbledores. they fulfill the traditional “women exist as emotional aides to men” role, even in media that doesn’t indulge the trend romantically. spoiler alert: that’s OOC. the minute rose lalonde has any ounce of emotional intelligence is the day I eat my own shoe.

the reduction of f/f couples to plot devices is a belittling trend in fandom content. and to put your “background f/f” in the main tag is just rubbing salt in the wound. it doesn’t matter if we can filter out all f/f stories that have a m/m pairing tagged. we shouldn’t have to.

I think I’ll read Deep Work again. Possibly hibernate from social media again. Trigger: An Atlantic article about social media and smartphone use sent from Call Newport’s newsletter.

It’s just weird and difficult to completely abandon social media when, awkwardly, your two closest friends were acquired mostly if not entirely through social media. (Also, recently surpassing 40,000 followers seems kinda guilty and wasteful in some way.)

That article mentioned that (spoiler alert) the trends seem to show that social media and general screen use cause depression, not so much that depressed people are more likely to use it.

Food for thought. The article is currently #2 on the Atlantic website so it’s easy to find. I’m on mobile. Just make sure you have the attention span because it’s longer than your typical click bait. Heh.
