transmission electron micrograph

My tattoo shows a T4 virus on my shoulder infecting my back with DNA that has RNA messages being densely transcribed off of it. There is then a zoom in on the enzymatic process doing the work of transcription on the molecular level, showing an RNA polymerase processing up the DNA double helix, and the newly transcribed RNA that is winding out of the complex. It is inspired by the old Transmission Electron Micrographs of transcribing rRNA genes, as bacteriophage viral genes are at least as strongly transcribed in early infection, and David Goodsell’s classic drawing of an RNA polymerase in his magnificent book, The Machinery of Life.
The arrows around the magnifying glass represent an operon level transcription map of a phage that I made with single nucleotide resolution as part of my doctoral work. (with the frame slightly obscured because the data is, at least previously, unpublished)

Trichomonas vaginalis is a protozoan parasite of the urogenital tract in men and women and causes a sexually transmitted disease, trichomoniasis, in about half of infected women. Infections are associated with pelvic inflammatory disease, adverse pregnancy outcomes, infertility, an increased incidence of aggressive prostate cancers, and an increase in HIV-1 transmission.

University: Atlanta hospital to treat Ebola patient

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Emory University Hospital in Atlanta is expected to receive a patient infected with the deadly Ebola virus within the next several days, the university announced.

The hospital has a specially built isolation unit to treat patients exposed to certain serious infectious diseases. The unit is one of only four such facilities in the country.

Two Americans in Liberia are sick with Ebola and it is unknown who will be brought to Atlanta.

This transmission electron micrograph shows a Langerhans cell (purple) exiting an isolated epithelium to disseminate the HIV-1 infection. A long cytoplasmic extension of the Langerhans cell remains anchored between basal keratinocytes and contains a large vacuole with one HIV-1BaL virion (red) inside. Epithelial sheets were inoculated with the virus by centrifugation (i.e., spinoculation) for 2 hours and then fixed in Karnovsky’s fixative for electron microscopy.

Another MERS infection detected in the US, CDC says

NBC News: A business associate of the man who brought the first case of Middle East respiratory syndrome to the U.S. has also tested positive for the disease, though he showed no signs of illness, federal health officials said Saturday.
