Spellcasting Combat Narration for D&D

So I was gonna include this in my other article on narrating combat, but it proved far too lengthy, so I made this into part 2!

Combat is easy to describe compared to narrating spell attacks. I ran into this problem last session when I was getting into detail telling the barbarian how they tore off an ogre’s head but then the druid just kept using Fire Bolt and I kept defaulting to “you shoot a bolt of fire at his face.” I’m going to try and vary things up with these lists and help everyone else in the process! I am organizing them by energy type.

Mode of Attack

Half of a spell’s attack is how the caster shapes their spell. The same spell can look very different with every casting if you have a creative DM. Feel free to switch it up each time it’s cast, or vary the same spell when cast by different characters of different classes.

Attack Words

Generic shapes and terms that will launch from the caster’s hand.

Helix, Spiral, Beam, Erratic, Mote, Bolt, Stream, Blast, Burst, Blade, Arc, Miasma, Cloud, Eruption, Wave, Cone, Missile, Rune, Glyph

Class-Based Ideas

  • Bard
    • Energy manifests from thin air a foot in front of their instrument as they play
    • Energy is shaped like ribbons of written music that ripples towards enemies
    • Several tiny motes of energy appear with each note sung or played. Each point of damage comes from a mote hitting the opponent (rolls a 4 out of a d6, 4 of the 6 note-motes hit)
  • Cleric
    • Energy falls from the sky or emerges from the ground as the cleric prays
    • Beam of energy originates from holy symbol
    • Spell attack should highlight that the cleric is granted their powers from a greater power, don’t have the energy come from their hand/finger. Have the energy come TO them, and then be thrown at the enemy.
  • Druid
    • Energy is shaped like an animal.
    • Energy rushes forth from the surrounding wilderness and zooms past the druid and toward the foe.
    • Much like Cleric, energy shouldn’t come from the caster. It should come from elsewhere before being thrown at the enemy.
  • Fighter (Eldritch Knight)
    • Energy blasts from their bound weapon pointed at the enemy.
    • Energy fires from their mouth as they yell.
    • Energy surrounds their weapon and is used in tandem with it (if close enough)
  • Monk (Way of Four Elements)
    • Literally just watch Avatar: the Last Airbender and do that.
  • Paladin
    • Most Paladin spells are smite-based, so they usually happen when an attack hits. Otherwise, let the energy come from a higher power like the Cleric.
    • Energy bursts forth from within the creature hit
    • Energy surrounds weapon right as the strike lands
    • Energy falls from the sky or erupts from the ground
  • Ranger
    • Honestly, most Ranger spells often seem a lot like man-made traps like Cordon of Arrows (arrow traps), Fog Cloud (smoke grenade), or Grasping Vine (slipknot trap). But otherwise, Play it like the Cleric where the energy comes from a higher power.
    • Energy takes the form of the Ranger’s animal companion or an animal they associate with.
    • Spells seem to cast automatically whenever the Ranger is in a tight spot, almost as if nature itself is protecting them. The Ranger gives an approving nod whenever this happens in thanks.
  • Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
    • Energy is always accompanied by a shimmer of glitter
    • The Rogue plays with the energy over their fingertips as they whistle before casting the spell.
    • Energy enchants one of the Rogue’s daggers and casts the spell by tossing the dagger at the intended location or target.
  • Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
    • Energy takes the shape of a dragon of your bloodline.
    • Energy surges forth from your breath
    • All energy takes the shape of your bloodline dragon’s energy type, regardless of the actual energy type. For instance, a sorcerer of a blue dragon’s bloodline that casts Burning Hands or Cone of Cold keeps the energy type but shapes the fire and cold damage into the form of a bolt of lightning.
  • Sorcerer (Wild Magic)
    • Energy takes on many random forms, never under the full command of the Sorcerer.
    • Energy erupts from random places in the environment when the Sorcerer calls upon them.
    • Energy bubbles and fizzes with all energy types (but mostly the one called upon), as if a piece of Limbo was thrown at the enemy.
  • Warlock (Archfey)
    • Your energy shimmers with iridescent colors and showers enemies with sparks of glitter.
  • Warlock (Great Old One)
    • Your magic corrupts and twists the flesh of the target of your spell, regardless of the energy type.
  • Warlock (Fiend)
    • Energy takes the shape of the unholy symbol of your patron.
  • Wizard (Abjuration)
    • Energy shoots forth from your magical wards, arcing towards your enemies.
  • Wizard (Conjuration)
    • You conjure a short-lived elemental of the energy type you need. It soars at the enemy.
  • Wizard (Divination)
    • You weave the glowing threads of fate in the palms of your hands, tweaking reality to cast your spell.
  • Wizard (Enchantment)
    • You enchant an object to exude the energy and toss it at the enemy.
  • Wizard (Evocation)
    • I mean, you just sorta blast them. That’s what this school’s about.
  • Wizard (Illusion)
    • Your spell usually spawns two or three illusory copies. When the attack misses, the enemy simply managed to dodge the right duplicate.
  • Wizard (Necromancy)
    • Your energy takes the shape of a skull screaming as it flies toward the enemy
  • Wizard (Transmutation)
    • You transmute the energy out of the surrounding environment and fire it at the enemy

On-Hit

So if half of a spell’s attack is the shape and travel of the spell, the other half is when the spell hits. I organized this list by energy type, as different energies will do different sorts of things when they hit a creature. This is mostly a collection of interesting effects, colorful language, and examples.

Fire

  • Your bolt of fire singes their armor (burning cloth, blackening leather, discoloring metal)
  • A tiny bead of fire explodes on contact
  • Showers them with red sparks
  • Your attack leaves behind a billowing trail of smoke
  • A fast-travelling meteor of flame soars from the sky towards the enemy.
  • Your flames leave blisters and cracked skin in its wake.
  • Your fire blackens the enemy’s flesh

Cold

  • You freeze the moisture in the air into icy daggers that fall onto your enemy
  • You freeze the water in their blood to damage them
  • Their skin turns blue and numb
  • You literally hurl a snowball at them.
  • Your spell leaves them covered in a layer of frost
  • A buildup of ice covers where your spell hit. (it’s easily shattered once they move, though)
  • A blast of icy wind and rain leaves them shivering.

Thunder

  • A crack of thunder pummels your foe
  • A high-pitched, deafening shriek focuses itself on the target
  • A thin trail of blood races from the foe’s ears from a sound no one else can hear
  • The enemy falls to their knees cupping their hands over their ears, gritting their teeth
  • You buffet the target with waves of thunderous sound
  • The ground shakes with the force of your spell. Brittle glass objects nearby shatter.

Lightning

  • Lightning comes from the sky to smite your foe
  • You all smell the faint odor of ozone before a bright bolt of lightning streaks toward the target of your spell
  • Before your enemy can blink they are showered in electrical sparks followed by crippling pain
  • The enemy’s back stiffens as the powerful current of lightning surges through them
  • Your attack leaves a permanent web of lightning shaped burns all over one side of their body
  • Your blast of lightning causes their skin to rupture as it travels through their body

Acid

  • Your acid sizzles as it burns a new, unnatural color into their skin
  • The attack melts their flesh, leaving them permanently disfigured at the site of the spell
  • Your spell’s acid causes blue fire to burn where it hit their skin, and bleaches their armor and belongings
  • A rancid smell fills the foe’s nostrils as the acid bubbles on their bare skin, burning through the simple cloth of their shirt.

Poison

  • You spew a poisonous cloud from your mouth at your opponent
  • A spectral viper or insect is flung at the opponent, biting them and filling them with magical venom
  • Your index and middle finger each grow a poisonous fang which you sink into your opponent’s arm (melee range spell attacks only)
  • The enemy’s mouth fills with a foul tasting liquid which forces its way down their throat

Necrotic

  • Your target’s flesh bubbles and boils as a black ichor sputters from the spell’s origin
  • The foe’s flesh festers with magical disease as boils and wounds quickly cover the affected area
  • A skeletal hand wriggles free from beneath the earth, flying towards the target
  • An incorporeal undead shrieks as it flies from your finger toward the enemy to deliver the spell’s effect
  • Black energy swirls around your arm before launching towards the enemy as if it had a life of its own
  • Your iridescent blue magic enters the target’s body and afflicts their soul, making them momentarily dazed as their eyes glaze over.

Radiant

  • A holy light shines from the skies to harm your target, regardless of time of day or obstructions
  • A halo of radiant energy surrounds your head and blinds the target as they gaze upon it
  • Enemies that aren’t of your alignment hear the whispers of your deity moments before being enveloped in a blinding white light
  • The foe’s eyes and mouth emit warm light and they howl in pain
  • A blade of radiant energy slashes through the victim, leaving a trail of blinking motes of light in its wake
  • The enemy’s skin blisters from the raw positive energy surging through them

So essentially this whole post was a creative writing assignment for myself, but I hope that it gives you guys new creative ideas for new spells or new ways to describe existing spells! They don’t much affect the mechanics of the spell at all, so most DMs I suspect will be fine with most of these descriptions if you want your character to cast spells a certain way.

86 and andreil??

86: “Perhaps you’ll take me out one day — or do I have to make an appointment?” (I combined this with a prompt from foxpaws10 from ages ago based on this post, and I kind of warped both of your prompts i hope this is still okaaay basically it’s doctor andrew and that’s all u need to know)

His morning is a string of disasters that begins with covering the ER in the Sunday rush of hypochondriac elderly and fussy children. It’s one long stretch of kicked over paint buckets, a mess you can’t ignore, splattering the walls and getting on his shoes.

Andrew chose surgery almost entirely for the distance of it, the sterility of a room with a slab of meat, a tray of knives, and a sickness he can actually cut out.

He’s a doctor because he can be, and patients sometimes like that he doesn’t speak a word to them, like silence equals genius.

He likes that there are some patients that come into the ER unconscious and leave the OR unconscious, and all he has is a problem and a ticking clock. He always solves the problem. He thinks maybe it’s because he is one.

The sinking ship of his Sunday in the emergency room goes from slippery to debilitating with one patient.

Two showy ER doctors with their lab coats off and their sleeves rolled up go into the private room they’ve cordoned off, and they both come out looking pinched in the face with their stethoscopes clenched in their fists.

“He’s a fucking disaster,” one of them says, leaning up against the information desk with his eyes still pulling back to the closed door of the room.

“I know. I thought, I dunno. That the news was exaggerating.”

Andrew tilts his head and listens without making any move to leave his post, filling out inane charts as illegibly as he can.

One of the residents chances a look at him and Andrew makes a point of catching him. The guy startles, then juts his chin.

“Maybe you’ll get along with him, Minyard. He’s as crazy as you.”

“You’ve mistaken the hospital for a playground,” Andrew says mildly. “Give me his chart.”

“What?”

“His chart.”

He looks at his friend, mouth slack, and then the one holding the chart holds it out like a dirty rag.

“He’s Boston’s starting striker,” he stage whispers. Andrew takes the clipboard and ignores him, scanning the details. “We’re not supposed to let any patients know.”

“That Neil Josten is causing a scene ten feet away from them?” he says, and the men titter uncomfortably. “Why should he get the luxury of privacy?”

“How did you—“

“The news is available to everyone, Bryant, you fuck.” He rounds the desk and makes for the closed and shuttered room, dropping the chart in the receptacle outside.

“He shouldn’t be allowed to practice,” someone says behind him, and then someone else, softer, scornful: “surgeons”.

Andrew wrings the door knob and finds himself abruptly face to face with the singular most swollen person he’s ever seen. He’s obviously bolting for it, his gown gaping at the neck and someone’s stolen shoes jammed on. Andrew scans the defiant face, the shock of red hair, the near invisible trail of blood from an incorrectly removed IV.

“Sit down.”

“No.”

Andrew watches Neil Josten— and it is him, one of the handful of strikers on Boston’s team and certainly the most newsworthy — size him up. His eyes run the same circuit Andrew’s would if he were looking to fight his way out: door, threat, surreptitiously behind him for a weapon, back again.

“I’ll drug you,” Andrew says simply. Neil’s good eye, the one that isn’t purpling, goes narrow.

“Are you allowed to say that?”

In 2012, Sheboygan Falls in Sheboygan City, Wisconsin, was shocked by the brutal murder of 78-year-old great grandmother, Barbara Olson, who was hacked and bludgeoned to death with a hatchet and hammer. Even more damning was the discovery of who the murder was perpetrated by – Barbara’s very own 13-year-old great grandson and his best friend. It was a crime that shocked the nation. If you’re not safe in your own home with your own great-grandson then where are you safe? “Did these kids grow up here? Did they grow up here in Sheboygan?” asked Sheboygan County District, Joe DeCecco, when he was informed of the heinous murder. Sheboygan County is an idyllic area and first-degree murder is extremely rare - in fact, on average once a year. Antonio Barbeau and Nathan Paape looked like your average all-American boys from Sheboygan Falls, so what led them to kill Antonio’s great grandmother with such savagery?

On that fateful afternoon of September 17th, 2012, Antonio and Nathan went to Barbara’s home on the tree-lined streets of Westwynde Bluffs. After inviting the teenagers inside her home, she was brutally attacked by the duo, whom had brought along their weapons of choice: a hatchet and hammer. Following the heinous attack, the two boys attempted to drag her blood-soaked body to the car which was parked in the garage. Realising that this wasn’t as easy feat, they decided to just ditch Barbara’s body in the garage, with a trail of blood leading from inside the home. A mere $155 was all they were able to steal from Barbara, as well as several pieces of jewellery. After they stuffed the pitiful bounty into their pockets, they grabbed Barbara’s car keys and dumped her unlocked car at a nearby Sheboygan bowling alley. Inside the car, they abandoned the few pieces of jewellery that they had ransacked from the home in the hopes that somebody would steal the unlocked vehicle and then be implemented in her murder. So what would two teenagers do with a pitiful $155, stolen from the elderly lady they just slaughtered? They brought marijuana and pizza.

Two days later, Barbara’s body was discovered by her distraught daughter. She initially believed that her mother must have had an accident but this was no accident, as she was soon to find out. Within 12 hours, Nathan and Antonio would be apprehended for her murder after bloody clothes and shoes were discovered in Antonio’s locker. It was announced that the two teenagers would be being charged as adults with first-degree murder. In January of 2013, Antonio entered a plea of not guilty by mental disease or defect. Two weeks later, Nathan also entered a plea of not guilty. As the trial date loomed, Antonio changed his plea to no contest as part of a deal with the state which would see him eligible for parole in 35 years. He was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide. Now, only Nathan would be facing a court of law.

During the trial, Nathan’s defence argued that Nathan was just a bystander. Antionio, however, had a different version of events when it was his turn on the witness stand. While he admitted that he had attacked Barbara with the hatchet, he contended that Nathan wasn’t as innocent in the ordeal as his defence attorney was claiming. Nathan came to Barbara’s home armed with a hammer and with that weapon, he bludgeoned the elderly great-grandmother. He also testified that Nathan was just as compliant in the planning of the murder. When Nathan took to the witness stand, he confessed that he did hit Barbara with the hammer, adding that he only hit her twice and only did so because he was afraid that Antonio would turn on him. He also described how Antonio had a “blank, no emotions” look on his face as he repeatedly bludgeoned his great-grandmother. At one point during the murder, Antonio took off his sweatshirt so that it wouldn’t get in the way of “him swinging,” Nathan told the aghast court room. Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner, Doug Kelley, testified that Barbara had been struck at least 27 times with both sharp and blunt objects. This was the evidence that Nathan, armed with a hammer, certainly had participated in the murder. The entire court room fell dead silent as the gruesome photos of Barbara’s body flashed on screen. Deep wounds to her head, face, arms and hands were enough to make even the most hardened law officials look away. The wounds on her arms and hands were indicative of defensive wounds, meaning that the elderly great-grandmother had attempted to defend herself against the blows. She wasn’ t knocked unconscious by the initial blow meaning she knew very well that it was her own flesh and blood ending her life.

After just mere hours of deliberation, they found Nathan guilty of being party to first-degree intentional murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum of 31 years. Antonio Barbeau had already been convicted of first-degree intentional homicide and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 35 years. When Nathan is 49-years-old, he will have a chance of parole and when Antonio is 49-years-old, he will have a chance of parole. Both murders will get a second chance at life – something they denied Barbara Olson as she begged the young boy that she helped raise from birth, for her life.

Teen Wolf Preference – He walks in on you naked

Once again, thank you @pissheadofficial, my source of SHARED filthy ideas.

Warnings: Some of them have SLIGHT sexual content (heh what ya think..)

Scott McCall

Scott had a habit to climb through your window at night. You knew roughly what time he used to come by and you decided to change into something more comfortable to sleep in before he arrived, instead of always having to go into the bathroom to change every time.

You started to undress and search for the shorts you use to sleep in when you heard a gust of wind behind you. “Man, now I REALLY don’t regret arriving earlier.” the familiar voice behind you made you turn around in terror.

The smirking face of Scott met yours and you quickly took your dirty shirt and tried to cover your bare body. “Scott!” you squealed with widened eyes and he just nodded in appreciation.

You cursed under your breath as you bend down to gather the rest of your clothes but kept on drop your clothes and Scott still stood in front of your window, smiling proudly as he eyed you up and down. “Stop staring and get out!”

He shook his head and you roared at him, still panicking over your naked body, deciding to run towards the bathroom with or without clothes. You yanked backwards by an overly strong and warm hand gripping around your forearm.

Your naked back flushed against Scott’s chest as he was able to lean in to whisper in your ear. “No, I’m not going anywhere.” panting as he spoke. “You’re coming over here.”

Stiles Stilinski

“Holy-moly!” you got surprised by the slight numb voice of Stiles behind you. You turned around and flinched, realizing you didn’t wore a shirt, neither pants, or a bra, or panties..

“Stiles!” you gasped as you saw him standing in the door opening. His mouth was slightly open and his mesmerized gaze were focused on your body. “I wasn’t prepared for this-” he began and raised his eyebrows.

“But I like it.” he continued with what you thought was him being seductive and approached you. You furrowed your brows as he took a few step forward, his brown eyes almost piercing you were you stood, face slightly red due to his affection.

“I mean, WOW!” Stiles exclaimed with the most flustered face you’ve seen as he gesture towards your body. You followed the motions of his hands just to freeze when your eyes met his crotch.

You let out a muffled giggle, making Stiles look at you in confusion. “Stiles? Is that a boner?” you asked boldly with a smirk, quirking your eyebrows as you met his eyes again.

His gaze moved towards himself and immediately tried to cover it. His face turned even more red as he stumbled backwards towards the door. “Shit, I-” he began and hit his back in the door frame, letting the door guide him out from your room. “B-bye Y/N.”

Liam Dunbar

It was 10 minutes left until Liam’s arrival. You had invited him over to help him study for his test on Friday. You wrinkled your nose after sniffing your armpit, unbuttoned your shirt with one hand, letting the other one trying to open the buckle of your bra.

“I can’t invite him over and smell like crap.” you mumbled to yourself and decided to undress completely just to find a whole new outfit, all from underwear to your favorite over-sized cardigan.

“So I thought about what you’ve said about the combinations of the amino acids and-” Liam were looking intently down in his folders of papers, not realizing what he walked in on. You froze and your eyes widened as you held your clean underwear in your hand, smiling at him always being so unaware of his surroundings.

He closed the door behind you, still not looking at you as you answered him. “-yes Liam?” you replied him, with the most exaggerated seductive voice you could disguise.

Liam turns around slowly, meeting your eyes. You flash him a smirk as you place your hand on your hip as you pop it, twirling your underwear between your fingers.

In what seem to be in slow motion, he drops all his books, papers flying around him as his eyes Liam’s eyes widen, mouth drops and the mortification immediately covers his face as he tries to talk.

“I-I, I’m-” he stutter before he quickly turns around, opens the door, hits his nose on the frame, leaving a trail of blood before running out from your room. When he close the door behind him you can’t help but let out a giggle.

Brett Talbot

You didn’t hear anything due to the harsh sound of your nearly broken hairdryer. The sound might resemble a nuclear power plant and you didn’t hear that someone had opened your door and stepped in.

Brett caught you in action just in that time when you had blow dried your hair upside down and were flipping your hair back over your shoulders, making it look quite sensual as Brett had seen it in slow motion. “Save that for tonight Y/N.” he purred and you dropped the hair dryer on the floor, almost hitting your foot but flinched in the right second.

“What the hell! What are you doing here? Get out!” you roared in panic and grabbed the wet towel you had hung on the back of the chair beside you, trying to cover your body as Brett pursed his lips into a smirk before stepping backwards out from the room.

“Woah.” Brett sighed for himself, he felt his heart rate increase in his chest when he realized what he had walked in to. He leaned back against the door and thought about how beautiful your naked body were in the daylight. He’d only seen the dark silhouette of it when you had sex during late nights, when your parents were asleep.

Theo Raeken

You’ve told Theo a thousand times not to come to your place until 8 p.m. since you wanted to get home from practice and shower before his arrival.

The clothes you had decided to wear laid properly on the end of your bed, waiting for you to put them on as you stood in front of your bookshelf, taking your brush out from one of the shelves to start to even out the wet tangles in your hair.

“Nice.” the hiss of Theo’s voice made you freeze, then turning around just to see the door to your room were wide open, having him leaning against the door frame. “THEO!” you quickly dive down the floor to look after something to cover your naked body with.

You felt your heart start to pound in your chest as you saw him lick his bottom lip before taking it between his teeth. “What are you doing?” you tried to sound threatening but your voice betrayed you when you spoke.

With a quirk of his eyebrow, he tugged the hem of his shirt, lifting the fabric over his head to let it fall to the floor. He started to striding towards you, having his dark gaze eyeing you up and down as he approached you and with just that look, he was devouring you.

Request: Sharp Objects

Request: HI I love your fics!! could you do a deanxreader where dean broke his right hand on a hunt and can’t shave himself so the reader, with hidden feelings for dean, does it for him with lots of fluff please

Word Count: 1,270

Thank you<3

“Ouch! Jesus Christ, that’s a bitch.” The muffled cursing comes from behind the bathroom door, then followed by the clinking sound of something falling into the ceramic sink, and finally a, “Son of a bitch!”

Despite the laundry pile you’re carrying, you swerve across towards the door and knock a couple of times with your free hand, “Dean? Everything alright in there?”

There’s a moment of silence, and then a short reply, “Fine.”

He’s obviously frustrated – a tone you’ve quickly become accustomed to hearing after dragging him home from the hospital a few days ago. He’d landed badly after being catapulted across the room by an overzealous ghost and broken a hand, whereas Sam had gotten off with a concussion and you’d somehow managed to slip away injury-free – which had inevitably resulted in you skivvying around to cater to their every whim.

While Sam had managed to get over himself somewhat and take it easy while the hellish egg on his head goes down, Dean has been trying to do everything as normal. He hates being laid up like this, and trying to get everything done for himself has just resulted in more hurt and hindrance than help.

You still linger outside the door for a few moments, “Can I help at all?”

He hesitates, and for a long moment you wonder if he’s actually going to accept, “I could use a clean towel.”

“Got one here. Mind opening the door?” You ask, after trying to get in and finding the door locked. Again, a hesitation, but then the door opens, Dean fumbling with his good hand for a few moments to get it undone.

You pride yourself on being able to keep a poker face. Sometimes giving the enemy no indication of your emotions could mean the difference between life and death – sometimes it’s imperative that a victim doesn’t know what you’re thinking. But this time, when it’s important that you don’t make a sound so Dean doesn’t slam the door in your face, you just can’t seem to freaking manage it.

“I know, alright?” He huffs as you sidle into the bathroom and begin draping the towels from the pile over the towel rack, trying desperately not to laugh. It’s not your fault – he’s covered in shaving cream – it’s smudged over his nose and there are even splatters in his eyebrows. It’s all white, apart from a trail of crimson blood slipping down the side of his face.

“You can’t shave left-handed?” You guess, taking note of the razor left in the sink and the cast immobilising his right hand. He sighs wearily, and then nods.

“Nope. I’ve never had to try before, and I was starting to look even more homeless than Sam.” He complains, taking a towel from you when you offer one to him.

“Dean, for crying out loud, you shattered your hand. I think you’re allowed to look homeless for a little while.” You reassure him, balancing the rest of the laundry – mostly jeans and a handful of flannels – on the countertop, “If you really want it sorted, I’ll do it for you.”

As soon as the offer has left your mouth, you regret it – the very idea of managing to get so close to him without blushing like a five year old, or completely losing your breath… impossible. And yet, he nods, smiling ruefully.

“Would you mind? I just… can’t.” He shrugs, and you smile back, nodding and shooing him off towards the closed toilet seat.

“Go on then, sit down.” You instruct, picking up the razor and running the warm tap to clear it off. You let the tap run for a little while, filling the basin, and then approach Dean carefully, “You have to promise to stay still. Usually when I’m so close to someone with something this sharp it doesn’t end very well for them.”

He laughs, leaning back with the force of it, “That’s not encouraging, Y/N.”

“I said I’d do it. I never said I’d do it well.” You remind him with a smile – humour: humour is how you get through this without making a complete idiot of yourself.

“Much appreciated, beautiful.” He winks, and it’s all you can do to force out a snort and place your fingers beneath his chin to tilt his head up a little.

“Mm, whatever you say,” Sometimes it’s difficult not to take his words too seriously, and you have to remind yourself that Dean Winchester can and will flirt with anything that moves – you’re not special to him beyond being good friends and hunting buddies.

“Well, the closer you get, the more I’m thinking it.” He mumbles, remaining still as stone as you skin the razor over his skin smoothly – you’re painstakingly careful, starting on the opposite side to the cut on his lower cheek. He chuckles when you lean back to dunk the razor in the sink, then move back over to him.

“I’ll stay well back, then.” You wink in response, but contradict your own statement by leaning close enough to him that his breath ghosts over your face. His eyes remain trained on your face, watching every movement as you press your lips together, squinting in concentration. You try your best to ignore it, being as careful and steady as your humanly can manage while you get to work.

His eyes don’t leave you until you’re finished, patting down his face with a towel and then handing it to him – only then does he force himself to look away, watching as you clear up and set everything back in its place.

When he finally manages to open his mouth, he’s expecting the words that come out to be ‘thanks, Y/N’ – instead, they’re, “When you’re concentrating, your nose does this funny little thing.”

You turn slowly, quirking an eyebrow in a manner he can only describe as adorable, “Excuse me?”

“It kinda… wrinkles. But just at the tip. Right here.” He taps his own nose, a small smile playing on his lips, “And you blink a lot. I just… never noticed before.” Dean confesses, giving a nonchalant shrug and trying to ask as if he isn’t mortified by the words.

Rather than make a comment, you give a smile, wiping your hands off and stepping back, “I suppose I’m not the kind of person people pay a whole lot of attention to.” It’s not meant to be self-deprecating, but Dean takes it that way nonetheless.

“You have got to be kidding me.” He rolls his eyes, standing up and poking at the cast as if his hand would be magically healed, “Y/N, you turn heads everywhere you go.”

“Yeah, right, of course.”

“Hey, look at me,” He takes your wrist in his hand, turning you to face him properly, “You’re beautiful. Really, truly beautiful. And smart, and kind, and funny. And people notice that. I notice that.”

That’s when your heart really does skip a beat – his eyes are on yours, emeralds glinting in the harsh white light of the bunker’s main bathroom.

“Dean, I-“

“You don’t need to reply to that. Didn’t mean to back you into a corner. Sorry.” Dean smiles sheepishly, scratching at the back of his neck with his good hand – but you shake your head, stepping forward with all of the boldness you can muster.

“I want to.” You assure him, taking his good hand and squeezing it gently, “I don’t care about anyone else noticing. Just you.”

He hesitates, then glances sideways, at the door, “Can I kiss you?” He blurts, flushing red like an embarrassed teenager.

“I’d be offended if you didn’t.”

Your friend holds a bowl of popcorn out to you when it happens.

You curse and grab your arm, curling up and grimacing.

“Again?” Is all Maria says, placing the bowl back in her lap and taking a handful of popcorn.

You groan. “I’m going to kill this idiot when I meet him.”

She laughs. “You’re going to kill your soulmate?”

“Yes.” You grumble.

“Well, how bad is it this time?” She crunches the popcorn in her mouth as the two of you ignore the record droning on in the background.

You remove your hand from your bicep. A red patch of skin grows under where your hand was clutched, bubbling up in the center. You hiss at the sight.

“Oh, that’s disgusting. Do you have your medkit?”

You nod, squeezing your eyes shut. “How the hell did he get a burn there?” You mumble, reaching to your hip and unlatching the medkit you carry with you. It holds everything from tiny bandages to a tourniquet. The tourniquet was a joke gift from another friend when they’d noticed all the scars covering your body, but you’re not so sure you won’t need it someday.

“Leaned against an open oven?”

“With their upper arm?”

She shrugs, tossing more popcorn into her mouth. “Possible.”

“Whatever.” You dig around in the bag and find the bottle of burn cream. You’d bought it six months before and used half of it already.

Maria looks back to the record player, watching the disk spin. “You’re missing the best part of the song.”

“I’m sorry, I’m a little busy.” You spit. You’d been having a perfectly good night before your soulmate had to go and do something stupid.

You finish applying the burn cream when a deep cut suddenly rips opens on your left forearm. A trail of blood rushes out of it, dripping onto your blanket before you can grab anything.

I used to be a camp counselor when I was a teenager, in the woods up around Vermont. I had the night shift, you know, tuck the girls in, turn off the lights, you know, the typical drill. Everything seemed fine. The kids were asleep, you know, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Until… I noticed that there was some blood, on the hallway floor. So I followed the blood trail down the hall to the camp director’s cabin, walked up to his bed, and… he was just lying there, underneath his covers, dead. Someone stabbed him. I ran out of there so fast, out the door, down the hall. I just remember it being really dark. Once I got to the door, there was another counselor there; I guess she heard me scream. They caught the caretaker on his way out of town. I guess he still had the knife on him…

Chapter 127: Sebastian’s Reaction(s)

In chapter 127, Sebastian and Ciel approach the townhouse. At first, they are their typical selves. Ciel is complaining about being sore from the carriage ride and the weather, and Sebastian is happily talking about putting on some tea. As Sebastian, reaches for the door, however, he senses something. You can see his eyes have changed.

It’s most likely all the blood in the house. We’ve seen before that Sebastian is sensitive to the smell of blood. He already knows something is amiss. Sebastian than opens the door, and we see more of his reaction.

Ciel is surprised - and rightly so. While he is used to being a target, he probably so no reason anyone would attack the townhouse. Sebastian, however, is on alert. He sees where there’s been a fight and there’s a lot of blood. He could possibly be sensing something about the attackers. If the attackers aren’t human, he might be able to tell that. Of course, if the the attackers are human or Bizarre Dolls, Sebastian wouldn’t be able to sense anything about them.

Sebastian and Ciel start to follow the trail of blood, but Sebastian appears to be almost pensive in certain scenes. Gone is the arrogance and cockiness he usually displays. In one panel, his eyebrows are even turned up slightly.

It appears that Sebastian has no idea what to expect. He follows the trail, and shows very little of any emotion - even when he first looks at Agni’s body.

When Ciel asks if Agni is breathing, Sebastian shakes his head. He looks almost sad or upset when he does.

When Sebastian opens the door to find Soma, he seems surprised at first.

At this point Sebastian realizes that Agni had gave his life to save Soma, which leads us to the final scene: Sebastian holding Agni and paying him a true compliment.

So, what is my analysis?

Well, Sebastian is usually very arrogant and self assured in his abilities. It’s part of his charm. When he first approached the townhouse, that’s the Sebastian we see, but things change quickly. Sebastian hadn’t been expecting there to be any trouble at the townhouse, so the attack caught him by surprise. He also had to be alert for any danger because Ciel was with him. He became quiet during this time as he searched for the source of the blood. He was still on high alert. Although Sebastian is egotistical, he’s not completely blind to his own limitations. He said that fighting two reapers at once was difficult, and he is in no hurry to face Undertaker again. He’s not running in blindly but taking his time as he tries to figure out what had happened.

Then he sees Agni’s body. He’s seen a lot of death (and caused a lot), although this is the first person who ever called him friend. However, I’d like to come back to Sebastian’s expression in this part in just a minute. When he opens the door he gets his final surprise when he sees Soma, and Sebastian finally understood what had occurred. I wonder if Sebastian might have been a little disappointed that Agni had allowed himself to be killed in such a manner initially. He had respected Agni, although I don’t think Sebastian ever understood him entirely. He also knew Agni’s strength and speed. Upon figuring out that Agni had sacrificed himself to save his master, he had renewed respect for Agni. It’s possibly that Agni not only fulfilled Sebastian’s expectations of a true butler but exceeded them.

Of course, this is purely my opinion, but I welcome discussion.

Bucky Request

Could you write a Bucky x Reader fic where the reader is being tortured in front of Bucky and Bucky can’t do anything to stop it and later when the reader is patched up and really banged up Bucky feels super bad and it’s really fluffy? Thanks so much!!

You woke up and found a bag over your head, only fractions of light seeped in from the little tears in the fabric. You stayed silent, letting your ears focus and listen to the sounds around you. By what you heard there were four guards in the room. You heard a door open and close before you heard the female voice. “Take the bag’s off,” the bag on your head was ripped off and you closed your eyes in pain as the light hit them suddenly. When you finally opened them again the first thing you saw was Bucky across from you. He was tied up like you were but they were smart enough to put his metal arm in an electromagnet that kept it held in place.

“Y/N,” his eyes widened from worry and relief. Worry because they had taken you too and relief that you were at least ok after the ambush the two of you had been caught in.

“Agent Y/L/N and The Winter Soldier,” the woman said. “I have to admit, I didn’t think they’d send HYDRA’s puppet and his girlfriend to gather intel. Lucky me that we got a tip off just before you left to come to my base,” she smirked. “It gave us just enough time to get ready.”

“Who are you? What do you want?,” you asked.

“I am in charge of this base; you can call me Mills. And what I want is simple: tell me why you were sent to this base for and what you know.”

“Go to hell,” Bucky spat.

“Original. How about you, Y/L/N, anything you’d like to add to the discussion?”

“I’m not telling you anything.”

“I was hoping we could do this the easy way,” she said walking towards the door. She opened it and another person wheeled in a tray of knife and other sharp and blunt objects. “Looks like we’ll have to do it the fun way instead. But, who should I choose first,” she said pointing a knife between you and Bucky.

“Use me first,” Bucky offered eagerly.

“Use you first, huh? Worried about your little girlfriend,” she walked over and brought the knife to his face. “Look’s like I know who to start with,” she said and suddenly turned walking over to you.

“No!,” Bucky protested.”

“I know he’s used to torture. Let’s see what you can handle.”

“I trained with the worst people you can imagine,” you told her. “You’d be surprised at what I can take.”

“I look forward to finding out,” she said and brought her knife to your arm. “Let’s find out,” she said quickly striking your arm leaving blood trailing from your arm.

******

You weren’t sure how long you’d been tortured but by the look on Mills’ face when she commanded a guard to punch you like a bag she was pissed and you had lasted longer than she thought you would. Bucky’s screams and protests had echoed through the room this whole time, but when the guard was commanded to beat you as you hung there Bucky became the deadly Winter Soldier again. “You touch her and I will kill you! I will rip your head off and I will kill you!” The guard gave him a wicked sneer before he took his first hit, landing right in your left ribs.

Your left eye was half swollen, your whole body ached and yet you felt like you couldn’t really feel it. “Ready to talk yet, Y/N.”

You sent a sad smile to Bucky before you spoke. “I could do this all day.”

You couldn’t see her face anymore but you heard her angry tone. “Continue,” she commanded the guard. But before he started hitting you again the lights went out. Once the power was out Bucy ripped his arm from the magnets that once contained him and ripped loose of his restraints. The two guards next to him were down before they could prepare for anything. The one across the room tried to fire but the object Buck flung at his chest made him drop to the ground. The man that had been hitting you tried to fight but Bucky’s years of training was no match for the man. Bucky got the man in a headlock and growled into his ear. “I told you what would happen if you touched her.”

You couldn’t see anything but you could hear the slumping of the man onto the floor. “Y/N,” Bucky ripped off the restraints holding you and let you slump against his body. “We’re getting out of here. I need you to stay awake, ok? Stay with me.” You let a faint ‘Ok’ and could feel Bucky hustling down the hallways. He followed the sounds of gunshots, knowing that’s where he’d find his friends. “Steve,” you heard him yell. “We gotta’ get her back now.” After that your hearing started going in and out and the last thing you hear was “Stay with me.”

******

When you woke back up your eye was still a little swollen but at least you could see. “Y/N,” Dr. Cho greeted you, “welcome back. I need you to stay very still. I’ll get you some water.” Even the nod you tried to give her sent waves of pain through your body.

After a much needed drink you looked at Cho. “How long have I been out?”

“2 days. You had severe blood loss, lots of bruised ribs and some were fracture, a swollen eye, may cuts, and lots of dislocated bones in your collar bone, arms, and wrists.”

“Just another day at the office,” you joked and quickly regretted the chuckle you gave as the little motion made you feel like you got hit by a truck.

“There’s someone waiting to see you. He’s been waiting since you were admitted in the waiting area. I’ll go get him,” she smiled and left your small room. You tried your body out, seeing what you could get to move and what sent you in the most pain. You looked up when you felt someone’s presence. “Buck,” you smiled at the dark haired, tired man, that stood in front of you.”

“Y/N,” he blinked back the wetness in his eyes and walked in like he was walking on eggshells. “How do you feel?”

“Not to hot, to be honest. But I’m alive and that’s what counts.” You grabbed his hand and held it in yours, feeling comfort with him next to you. “You got me out of there, Buck. You saved me.”

“I didn’t save you. If I had saved you you wouldn’t be in here. You wouldn’t have cuts and bruises and fractures through your whole body.”

“You couldn’t do anything Buck. You were trapped by a super magnets. None of this is your fault, you hear me?” He nodded but wouldn’t meet your gaze. You force your arm though the pain and lifted his chin so he’d meet your eyes. “You hear me? None of this is your fault.”

“I was just so worried I was going to lose you.”

“As you can see, you’re not going to get rid of me that easy.”

Is it okay if I lay down with you?

There was a large pool of blood covering the sheets of your bed, right where you had been laid when he left for groceries.  He looked around and listened for what could have had happened to you. Stepping inside, he noticed how the floor also had blood spread there, this time large drops.

Close Call ~PART 3

The angst continues! Sorry this is later than planned… I fell asleep.

Read Part 1 First and Here’s Part 2

Catch this fic on AO3

This four-part story is essentially what happens when Lance and Keith get captured, and put in separate cells. Lance is injured. Lots of angst. Go read the other parts first.

Hopefully you enjoy! Also, I apologize in advance. Just keep in mind that this has four parts.

@taylor-tut @dogsahoy @voltronpaella don’t mind me just leaving this here

Lance continued to stare determinedly at the door. Any moment now, he told himself, Keith is going to break down that door, and get us out of here. We just have to stay patient. What’s that thing Shiro always says to Keith to calm him down? Patience yields focus.

“How’re you holding up?” Matt asked again, looking over at Lance with concern.

“’M good,” Lance answered shortly. Matt eyed him skeptically, but Lane couldn’t bring himself to say any more. Talking had become a conscious effort, and a painful one.

Lance’s breath came out in short gasps, and the wound had still not stopped bleeding. Granted, the sword had stabbed straight through, but Lance had been applying pressure ever since he woke up.

Still, without any proper medical supplies, his efforts didn’t do much. Both Matt and Lance neglected to address the slowly growing pool of blood under the blue paladin.

and maybe in a different life,
he doesn’t leave you
and you love with sunshine hearts
and everything is bright.

maybe it could have been different
if you were more forgiving
and he stopped trailing blood,
you opened your mouth less
and he opened his more,
you didn’t love too harshly
and he didn’t throw his out the door.

but this isn’t a different life
and things aren’t different.
it doesn’t matter what could have been.
it only matters that he’s not here
and you’re shaking,
sleeping with a nightlight on in bed
because you’re so scared
of living a life without him.

i know.
i’ve been there.
there’s nothing poetic about
the way it feels to cry on the floor.
but sometimes that’s the way life is.
sometimes that’s how you move on.

and you’ve got to move on.
you have to weed through
every part of yourself
until you find the strength to let go.
you can’t keep dreaming.
it won’t change things.

you’ve got to live.
pick yourself up.
smile at the little things.
you have to realize this life
is much bigger than him.
you don’t have a choice.
this is the way it is.

Peter was walking you home after your date with him. It was a normal thing for you to have dates the night before you were to go on a mission.

You were the daughter of Tony Stark, and like your dad, was extremely smart. However instead of suits and weapons, you did hand to hand combat and hacking. When Fury figured out you would hack into SHIELD’s files for fun, he signed you up before telling your father. He didn’t know whether to be mad or proud of you. At least he took it better than when he caught you kissing Peter and finding out you were in a relationship.
