I’m converting my Bob Jackson Audax race-y touring bike into a townie (at least temporarily). My shoulders are pretty fucked up (impingement in both, rotator cuff strain in the left one), so I wanted a more upright riding position that would shift my weight back and off my arms. So I replaced the cockpit shown in pic #1 (FSA Omega Compacts, SRAM Rival brifters) with:

  • Velo Orange “Tourist” bars
  • Apex Hi-Rise 45* stem
  • SRAM TT shifters mated to Paul Thumbies
  • Tektro FL750 City Levers

Also installed SKS Chromplastic fenders for the Bay Area winter, and replaced the Thomson setback seatpost with a straight version to shorten the reach even further. Still need to figure out what I’m going to do about grips vs. bartape. On the fence on that one.
