townes van zandt and steve earle and guy clark

I’m currently obsessed with Richard Dobson. This is his song “Forever, for Always, for Certain.” Discovered it earlier today and it did me in. Still working on an arrangement that works for me.

It’s a shame it took me this long to get into his music. He spent time in the 1970s hanging out and playing with some of my songwriting idols: Guy Clark (who actually recorded this song), Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle and, yes, Townes Van Zandt. Geez, the only one missing was John Prine.

If you haven’t already, I HIGHLY recommend you check out the Heartworn Highways footage of him performing this and another song. It was included as a DVD bonus, which explains why I missed it the first time I streamed it on Qello. I really should get a physical copy. Didn’t think that documentary could change my life more than it already had.

Also, Dexter thinks guitar cases are beds and he enjoys joining in on the music with sonorous barking.
