Sydney, Australia: Trade unionists and solidarity activists rally for Bolivarian Venezuela on eve of Constituent Assembly vote, July 29, 2017.

“Trade unionists from the Maritime Union of Australia and the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union took part in a Sydney Town Hall square rally in solidarity with Venezuela’s Bolivarian revolution on the ever of the Constituent Assembly elections in that country. The elections are being violently disrupted by right-wing opposition groups supported by the US Trump administration. US President Donald Trump has threatened “strong and swift economic actions” if the election goes ahead.”

i don’t usually beg here on tumblr.

but i BEG you to listen to this song.

because it’s that fucking good.

last night i saw john grant play sydney festival…i knew i liked a few songs of his (particularly queen of denmark, go google) but i did not realize what a force of deep, painful lyrical-genius nature he was. when he played this song…my heart stopped and fell out of my body and onto the floor of sydney town hall. i was changed, as a person and as a songwriter (and a little bit as a pianist…but that was my own insecurity).

then i found out this morning that he came out as HIV+, and it all came together and i cried into my morning coffee.

sometimes music and lyrics transcend and cut through all the bullshit of life.

this is one of those songs…it comes along once in a blue moon.

please listen, really listen. headphones if you can, with the lights off.

then give yourself a hug. and share it. music like this has to be shared.

thank you, john grant.

GLACIER

You just want to live your life
The best way you know how
But they keep on telling you
That you are not allowed

They say that you are sick
That you should hang your head in shame
They are pointing fingers
And want you to take the blame

There are days when people are
So nasty and convincing
They say things beyond belief
That sting and leave you wincing
And to boot they say their words
Come straight down from above
And they really seem to think
That what they’re doing counts as love

This pain –
It is a glacier moving through you
And carving out deep valleys
And creating spectacular landscapes
And nourishing the ground
With precious minerals and other stuff
So don’t you become paralyzed with fear
When things seem particularly rough

Don’t you pay them fuckers as they say no never mind
They don’t give two shits about you it’s the blind leading the blind
What they want is commonly referred to as theocracy
And what that boils down to is referred as hypocrisy

Don’t listen to anyone, get answers on your own
Even if it means that sometimes you feel quite alone
No one on this planet can tell you what to believe
People like to talk a lot and they like to deceive

This pain –
It is a glacier moving through you
And carving out deep valleys
And creating spectacular landscapes
And nourishing the ground
With precious minerals and other stuff
So don’t you become paralyzed with fear
When things seem particularly rough

I'm headed to the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, Australia next semester. Any recommendations of buildings to check out in the region? I've got the Sydney Opera House on my list already :)

Wow! Congrats! Long time since I have seen your avatar on my inbox… Australia’s architecture?

If you are in Australia reading this let us know your favorites!

I am not an expert (and the distances might be prohibitive from Newcastle) but just in case, here go some I remember:

Parliament House Canberra

High Court of Australia and National Gallery of Australia precinct, Parkes

Australia Square, Sydney

Shine Dome, Canberra

Sidney Myer Musical Bowl, Melbourne

Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne

Queen Victoria Building

Australian Convict Sites

Sydney Town Hall
