Total War: Arena is a free-to-play spin-off of the hugely popular Total War franchise that will allow you to play as famous historical leaders in epic 10v10 online battles.

For theses 10v10 battles, each player chooses a leader from a list including Alexander the great, Caesar and Leonidas and commands three blocks of military units.  It also features a deep progression system, with the ability to level up your commanders and units with new upgrades and abilities.

Total War: Arena looks set to offer deep tactical gameplay designed specifically for multiplayer.  Much like a MOBA, teamwork and superior tactical planning will be crucial to the outcome of the battles – lone wolves are destined to perish.

Creative Assembly Could Conquer Multiplayer With Total War: Arena

The difference between this and your standard online arena game is that instead of controlling a single character, you’re given command of three military units. Traditional RTS fans might find this a little underwhelming, but between using special commands and abilities and managing your troops’ morale you’ll probably find you have your hands full micromanaging one battle at a time. Being a small part of a greater army in an RTS is a unique experience, and coordinating with a team of ten presents an engaging challenge on its own.

Remember how I posted some time ago about the closed alpha of Total War: ARENA and how I’d like to try it? Well I got in, and it’s really fun!

Interesting and easy to get into gameplay, good pace, your personal effort matters and coordination with your team mates is important as well, all set in the great ancient world - this is a really good game!

TWA has really got me, it’s fun, easy to play, but nuanced and skill matters, and at the same time nicely paced (the 15-min timer is really ideal) - plus what’s there not to like about huge ancient battles? :-) Really good game for anyone strategy-positive, and I’m thinking not just those.

Since I’m playing it a lot lately and continously getting deeper into its workings, I’m going to start posting the fights to my YouTube - hope you’ll enjoy them, I try to commentate as much as I can when I’m not concentrating on proper manoeuvring, and when I’m killed, I commentate the match as a normal observer - sometimes you can then get pretty much a full match commentary :D

This first single battle is from my early stages, and yeah, the title says it all - I like making use of the forest on this map :-)
