[…] For the first time in more than 51 years, there are two cast recordings in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart. The original Broadway cast recording of Dear Evan Hansen debuts at No. 8 with 29,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Feb. 9, while still-hot Hamilton: An American Musical, moves from No. 12 to No. 13 (25,000 units; down 1 percent). The chart last housed a pair of top 20-charting cast albums way back in 1965, when the Broadway cast recordings of Hello, Dolly! and Fiddler on the Roof both occupied the region for 11 consecutive weeks, between Jan. 16 and March 27, 1965. Hello, Dolly! topped the chart for one week in 1964, while Fiddler On the Roof peaked at No. 7 in January of 1965. Both albums were particularly strong performers on the list, with Hello, Dolly! spending 90 weeks on the tally, and Fiddler charting 206 frames on the list.

As previously reported, Dear Evan Hansen’s bow at No. 8 is the highest debut for a cast recording on the chart since 1961, and marks just the fourth cast recording to reach the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in the last 50 years. In that span of time, the only previous cast albums to visit the region were: Hamilton (No. 3 in 2016), The Book of Mormon (No. 3 in 2011) and Hair (No. 1 for 13 weeks in 1969). […]

Request: Hi love! I was wondering if you could do a jealous Shawn imagine where maybe your famous too and another celebrity or something flirts with you on Instagram or comments under your pics? If that makes sense? Haha thanks!

Your name: Submit What is this?

- - - -

You hear the sound of the balcony door sliding open which interrupts the calming sounds of the breeze you have been surrounded by for several hours. Abruptly, you spin around and set your eyes on the person standing with a bright smile in front of you.

“Hey, you.” Shawn says with his arms crossed and leaning up against the red brick wall.

“Shawn!” You reply now with a wide grin on your face. You slam your laptop shut and put it down gently onto the chair that you’ve been glued to for the majority of the day.

Shawn opens his arms and you gladly fall into them, knowing that it will provide you with the feeling that you’ve been longing for all day. In 4 days it will be your 3 year anniversary of being a couple, and your 6 year anniversary of knowing each other. Shawn has always been extremely supportive of you and your career and vice versa. That’s how you both work so well together and you always will.

Ever since you were 12 years old you’ve wanted to be acting in films and musicals, and Shawn has wanted to be a musician from a similar age too. Both of your dreams came true at pretty much the same time, and within 6 months of meeting each other, which is quite convenient. You landed your first acting role in a teen TV show where you filmed most days, and Shawn signed with a record company, where he worked incredibly hard to create his first album which then topped the charts.

Amongst all of that hectic stuff, you’ve had each other. Making the time for each other was the hardest thing ever sometimes, but it was so important to you both that you did and remained together. You loved and continue to love each other every single day deeply. Some days, you both truly believe that’s all you will ever need.

“So, do you think you’re going to audition for that new part? Is the script any good?” Shawn asks you whilst rubbing your arm and breathing in your scent. He places a tender kiss on the top of your head and you ponder your response.

You love how the first thing he asks you about after his long day is about yours. He’s always been so interested in you and selfless - it’s just one of the many characteristics that you adore about him. Pulling out of the hug slightly, your eyes meet his and your body tingles slightly like it has done since the day you met him. “Honestly, I’m not sure if there is even any point.”

Shawn raises one eyebrow to highlight his confusion, “What do you mean? Of course there’s a point! You could get another job… what’s the movie about?” He questions curiously, whilst tucking your loose strand of hair in front of your face behind your small ear.

“Well, it’s not that I don’t want to audition for the role. It’s the opposite of that actually: I would absolutely love to! I just think that so many beautiful and talented girls are going to audition for this, so there’s statistically less than 0.1% chance that I would get the role.” You tell Shawn, feeling a bit embarrassed and fiddling with your comfy hoodie’s sleeve.

There’s a pause that you weren’t expecting, and suddenly Shawn pulls completely out of the hug and repositions his hands on your shoulders like someone would when they’re about to give their child a stern talking to. His smile never falters.

“Are you kidding me, Y/N?” Shawn shakes his head and takes a breath, “There are always going to be people out there whom YOU think are more talented than you, prettier than you, skinnier than you, etcetera etcetera. But what you don’t realise, is that so many people out there will think differently. The casting director for that role may unintentionally sometimes have a perfect image in their head of the person they’re looking for to play the part. Those other girls can’t fit into that image every single time. One person can’t play every character, and I personally think that anyone you audition for is lucky to have you there even showing interest to make the effort to be there in the first place.”

How does he always know the right thing to say? You look at Shawn for a moment and then down at his hands on your shoulders; and then back at him, and then back at your hands on his shoulders, hoping he gets the hint that you’re wondering when he’s going to move his hands.

He lets out an outburst of laughter randomly as he realises how weird this would look to someone else watching. Shawn’s about a head taller than you so it looks from afar like you may not be a couple, but a father and daughter. It’s quite humorous actually.

“I love you so much, and I really hope you know that.” You say lovingly and take his hand to lead him over to the comfortable chairs on the balcony of the house you share.

You move your laptop onto the little table you have out here, and then both sit down heavily and lie back in your seats. He’s had a bit of a longer day than you have being at the studio and all, but Shawn doesn’t care or acknowledge that. Both of you love simply being in each other’s company and chilling out together to destress and forget the world for a while.

A vibration in your pocket makes you get your phone out and check your texts briefly, before then going on Instagram and liking lots of your friends’ posts. Then you make the decision to quickly choose one of your latest selfies, post it and then turn your phone off straight away to get back to relaxing.

Shawn’s phone buzzes when you post it, “Oh I forgot that you have my post notifications on!” You exclaim loudly as you watch him blush.

“Come on, Y/N! I know you have mine on too.” He replies chuckling and his eyes wide in judgement. He gets his phone out too and clicks on the notification from your post. Shawn likes the photo without any hesitation with a small smirk on his face, “You look really hot in this photo wow, Y/N.”

He looks up at you and smiles, triggering the blush across your cheeks he knew fully well that he would cause. You see him typing a comment on your post; thinking carefully about what he should put because he knows that all of your fans collectively will see it. Shawn’s not the kind of guy to comment cringey things that would make you internally vomit, and you’re secretly really happy about that. Watching Shawn closely, you suddenly see him post the comment and then begin to scroll through other comments on the photo.

Swiftly, you grab your phone and go to your notifications to see exactly what he commented on your post, “Aww, Shawn, you’re too sweet.” It says simply, “Wow.”

When he doesn’t reply and is still looking far too engrossed in his phone, you reach over and tap him on the shoulder. “Huh? Sorry, I was too distracted reading BROOKLYN BECKHAM’s comment on your photo.” Shawn says pointing at it in a harsh motion, clearly very shocked and not sure how to react to this.

“It’s literally been posted for 2 minutes how has he seen it already?” You ask Shawn as a rhetorical question, as you’re just as confused as he is. Probably a lot more actually. Brooklyn Beckham? What? You look closer at the comment – “😍😍 omg”

Shawn shakes his head, “I don’t know, Y/N. But all I can say is that it’s weird to me that he would comment on your picture at all, let alone that, and after only a few minutes. He knows we’re together right? Do you like him? Have you met him before?” Shawn asks you, talking a little bit too fast for it to be casual.

You laugh a bit to yourself, and then instantly regret it when you see the serious expression on Shawn’s face intensify. You squeeze his shoulder, “Babe, I have absolutely no idea why he would comment that on my photo, and I also have no intention of finding out why I promise you. It’s just a compliment that’s all. I’m sure he knows that we’re together, and no I’ve never met him before so I definitely don’t ‘like him’ in that way if that’s what you mean. I’m pretty positive that he means no harm doing that and he’s just being kind, okay?”

Shawn looks away from you and back down at his phone, and you lean in to kiss him softly on the cheek, “Sorry I guess I am overreacting a little, aren’t I?” He says quietly.

“Just a tad.” You reply with a grin.

A/N: Sorry for not posting in a hot minute!! Wow lol, anyways please enjoy!💙 You can send me requests here.

[ARTICLE] MAMAMOO Earn First No. 1 on World Albums With 'Purple'

MAMAMOO’s latest release is all about confidence – an attitude that’s taken them all the top of the Billboard charts.

The soulful girl group’s new Purple EP debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. The five-track set sold 1,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music. The chart-topping week marks the quartet’s largest sales week in the U.S. to date and marks their very-first No. 1 on a Billboard chart.

MAMAMOO have now landed four entries for them on World Albums, including three Top 10s. So far, they’ve sent Pink Funky (the 2015 EP led by the single “Um Oh Ah Yeh” which peaked at No. 7), 2016 album Melting (featuring the hit single “You’re the Best,” peaking at No. 8), and Memory (the 2016 EP featuring the single “Decalcomanie” that peaked at No. 12), along with their latest. Notably, they are the third female K-pop act to top the list this year (following Red Velvet and IU) compared to the five male acts to top World Albums.

Overall, Purple paints MAMAMOO as a girl group still tough to totally define. The quartet consisting of Solar, Hwasa, Wheein and Moonbyul have released flirty love songs and soulful empowerment anthems, but having the electro-soul single “Yes I Am” represent the EP is a large statement to make the ladies relatable superstars. The girls get personal in the lyrics and embrace their physical quirks, humanizing the powerhouse vocalists in K-pop’s vain and appearance-driven idol scene. Elsewhere, the brassy “Age Gag” is filled with punny dad jokes and DJ scratches, as “Finally” is a refreshing dip into tropical-house further proving the group as multidimensional musicians while still dealing with everyday human problems.

Looking past World Albums, “Yes I Am” starts at No. 7 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, also selling 1,000 copies. The track is their second-highest charting single after “You’re the Best” peaked at No. 3 on the chart dated March 19, 2016. It’s the fourth best-selling K-pop song in America this week.

On this day in music history: April 14, 1983 - “Let’s Dance”, the fifteenth studio album by David Bowie is released. Produced by Nile Rodgers and David Bowie, it is recorded at The Power Station in New York City in December 1982. Newly signed to EMI Records, Bowie collaborates with producer and musician Nile Rodgers (of The Chic Organization). Rodgers assembles a group of top notch musicians that feature his Chic band mates Bernard Edwards (bass), Tony Thompson (drums), Rob Sabino (keyboards) and Sammy Figueroa (percussion) as well as Omar Hakim (drums), Carmine Rojas (bass), Rodgers himself on guitar. During the sessions, Bowie brings a then virtually unknown blues guitarist named Stevie Ray Vaughan into the studio to play lead guitar. The singer had seen Vaughan only a few months before performing in Montreux, Switzerland. Dazzled by his virtuoso blues guitar playing, Bowie invites Stevie Ray to play on “Let’s Dance”. The guitarist makes quick work of his contributions, laying down his lead parts within a few takes. Vaughan’s stand out playing on the album’s hit singles is one of the catalysts in launching him into stardom in 1983. Led by Nile Rodgers’ production expertise, the album is recorded and mixed in only seventeen days. The end result of the sessions is the most commercially successful album of Bowie’s career. It spins off three singles including “China Girl” (#10 Pop), “Modern Love” (#14 Pop), and the chart topping title track. Bowie supports the album with the “Serious Moonlight World Tour” during 1983, his first concert tour in over five years. A full length home video of the show filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada (on September 12, 1983) is released in 1984, and is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Video, Long Form in 1985. The album has been reissued on CD three times, in 1995, 1998 and the most reissue issue in 2003 as a hybrid SACD. “Let’s Dance” hits number one on the UK album chart, peaking number four on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

  24. always being polite towards everyone.

It was always easy to dismiss one direction. Formed on reality TV and cannily styled to appeal to young listeners, it had all the markings of a manufactured boy band. But by its fifth and most recent album, One Direction had become a stealth classic-rock delivery service, repackaging crunchy guitar riffs and soaring arena-ready choruses that went down easy with kids and reminded parents of their youth. In 2015, Zayn Malik left the band to top charts with sulky alt-R&B songs like “Pillowtalk,” a No. 1 hit last year. Now Harry Styles, the band’s de facto front man, is next to make a bid for solo stardom.

On Styles’ self-titled debut album, out May 12, he eschews slick production and sharp hooks. But he still synthesizes influences from the last half-century of rock, so much so that you can practically travel through history on the back of his references. The anxious opener “Meet Me in the Hallway” has a riff straight out of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit,” while the operatic lead single “Sign of the Times” channels David Bowie. “Kiwi” is straight-up grunge, full of rage, and “Two Ghosts” sounds like late-‘90s adult-contemporary radio, in the best way. Working with veteran producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Mark Ronson), Styles has crafted a grownup rock sound that doesn’t pander.

Styles’ lyrics can be opaque, which makes the confessional final track, “From the Dining Table,” all the more important. It’s a vulnerable ode to the lonely hotel room, the curse of the famous. The song not only proves Styles’ talent as a storyteller but also shows that he may potentially be as good at looking inward as at looking backward in time.

On this day in music history: August 21, 1990 - “Graffiti Bridge”, the twelfth album by Prince is released. Produced by Prince, it is recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood, CA, Lake Minnetonka Home Studio in Minnetonka, MN, and Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, MN, circa 1983 - 1990. Issued as the soundtrack to Prince’s third film, the album features material written as far back as the “Controversy” recording sessions in 1981. Other tracks originate from various projects such as the abandoned “Dream Factory” album (which evolved into the “Sign O’ The Times” album), “Parade”, and “Crystal Ball”. Prince begins forming the concept for “Graffiti Bridge” in 1987, with the only songs written specifically for the film being “Thieves In The Temple”, “Round And Round” (recorded by Tevin Campbell), and “New Power Generation”. The completed album features songs performed by The Time, Mavis Staples and Tevin Campbell, along side Prince’s songs. The soundtrack album is much better received than the film which is widely panned upon its release, and is a box office disappointment. The album spins off off five singles including “Thieves In The Temple” (#1 R&B, #6 Pop) and “Round And Round” (#3 R&B, #12 Pop). Also issued at the time as a limited double vinyl LP, the album quickly goes out of print in that format, and remains unavailable for more than twenty five years. “Graffiti Bridge” peaks at number six on the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album chart, and is certified Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

On this day in music history: June 12, 1979 - “Candy-O”, the second album by The Cars is released. Produced by Roy Thomas Baker, it is recorded at Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles, CA in February 1979. Released six days shy of one year after their self-titled debut, The Cars’ sophomore album is recorded shortly after the band come off of the promotional tour for the first one. With their first album still sitting comfortably in the Top 30 on the Billboard Top 200, the bands’ label Elektra Records wants to hold back the release for several more months until the others momentum begins to wane. However, with Ric Ocasek already writing songs for the next album, they are insistent that Elektra not delay the release. Like their debut, “Candy-O” features all newly material written by Ocasek and bassist Benjamin Orr, with the leftover songs from the first being scrapped in favor of the new ones. Working once again with producer Roy Thomas Baker, The Cars take a slightly different approach, wanting to make their sophomore “less slick” sounding than the previous one, and also being more democratic in choosing the final group of songs the album. Initially, the track “Double Life” was going to be dropped, but when the other band member outvote Ocasek, it is reinstated. The albums striking cover artwork is illustrated by artist Alberto Vargas, famous for his paintings appearing in major publications including Playboy and Esquire magazines. Drummer David Robinson suggests to his band mates that they hire the then 83 year old artist, who agrees to come out of retirement to create the cover. The model featured in the painting is actress Candy Moore, best known for playing Lucille Ball’s daughter Chris on the 60’s sitcom “The Lucy Show”. Having previously been married to actor Paul Gleason (“The Breakfast Club”, “Die Hard”), Moore and Robinson date briefly not long after the release of “Candy-O”. The new album is well received by fans and critics alike, spinning off three singles, including “Let’s Go” (#14 Pop) and “It’s All I Can Do” (#41 Pop). First released on CD in the mid 80’s, it is remastered and reissued as a 24K gold CD and 180 gram LP by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in 2011. It is also issued on colored vinyl (red) as part of the box set “The Elektra Years - 1978 -1987 in 2016. "Candy-O” peaks at number three on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified 4x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

[TRANS] 170313 Daesung Interview for BARKS

Translations by: mshinju

D-LITE, vocalist of BIGBANG known for his powerful vocals and his charismatic, warm smile that enwraps everyone around him in a calm, happy aura, releases his new mini album “D-Day” on April 12 (Wednesday).

Two and a half years have passed since his last solo release, and for his upcoming album D-LITE’s heart’s wish of a collaboration of Japan’s top creators Ayaka, Motohiro Hata, and Yoshiki Mizuno (Ikimono Gakari) whose songs he has covered in his first solo album, “D’scover” was realized. D-Day has turned into D-LITE’s most refreshing, energetic and dynamic work, a perfect fit for the upcoming spring.

D-LITE will hold his first solo dome tour starting on April 15 (Saturday). We have asked him questions about his solo work, back side stories about BIGBANG who celebrated their 10th anniversary last year, his relationship to T.O.P that attracts attention, and he has answered in below long interview all in Japanese without the assistance of an interpreter.

“I have never imagined that I would become a singer that’s loved by fans for 10 years and holds concerts all around the world.”

In the beginning, could you please tell us your impressions of the now finished BIGBANG 10th year anniversary project?
Of course. Looking back now it was really a lot of fun, and the feeling of being thankful is what remains most strongly in my memory. I felt just how much our fans have supported us all this time for 10 years, and I feel thankful to the staff who has been supporting us all this time as well. Lately, I feel full of thankfulness to the people around me.

If you hadn’t become a member of BIGBANG, what would you be doing now?
Now? I’d be playing games at home. Yes, I guess I’d be playing games and getting beaten for it by my mom. (laugh) Ah, I would probably have tried to become a security police officer. My dad and I have sports in common, so I think I would have focused on that.

So has your life changed from one moment to the other once you became a member of BIGBANG?
Of course it changed. I have worked very hard to become a singer, but I never thought I would become a singer that is loved by fans for over 10 years and holds concerts all around the world, I hadn’t even imagined it.

What are the moments when you realize just how big BIGBANG is?
When we hold a world tour and come to South America, for example, there are times where I realize that people in places so far from us are listening to our music. When we hold concerts in America, a lot of local people gather to see us, but if you think about it, we have aimed to become singers listening to music that’s from America. We still listen to American pop music now to get inspired, so it’s a very strange feeling.

So was it American music that inspired you to become a singer?
No, actually the reason why I came to like music is my family. Everyone in my family loves music, so we often used to got to karaoke all together. Also in middle school, there was a school festival and my class teacher nominated me after a secret audition. (laugh) So, I had no choice but to go out and sing at that festival. Singing on stage left such a huge impression on me, I just couldn’t forget it. Since then I started researching about ways to become a singer and began working towards that goal.

“I hadn’t planned to start a solo at all, I was seriously thinking about just secretly running off (laugh).”

So thankful to that class teacher! After that school festival stage, you took flight with BIGBANG to the whole world and are now even taking off on a dome tour as a solo artist.
Originally, I had never considered to have any solo activities (laugh). Personality-wise, I’m not the type of person who stands in the very front. With BIGBANG, I also tend to stand back and watch over the other members, so I never had any plans for solo activities myself. So rather than being my own wish, the very first time the conversation actually came up was thanks to the CEO of our Japanese company [YG Japan] who suggested a solo to me. “How about covering J-Pop songs?” That’s how my solo started.

On this day in music history: March 13, 1999 - “Believe” by Cher hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 4 weeks, also topping the Club Play chart for 4 weeks on December 12, 1998. Written by Brian Higgins, Stuart McLennen, Paul Barry, Steven Torch, Matthew Gray and Timothy Powell, it is the fourth solo chart topping single (fifth overall) for the pop music icon and Academy Award winning actress. After focusing on her film career for much of the 90’s, Cher turns her attention back music when she signs to the UK division of Warner Bros Records in 1998. Working with dance music producers including Junior Vasquez, Todd Terry, Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling, it will be the singer’s first dance oriented album in nearly twenty years since the release of her Casablanca albums “Take Me Home” and “Prisoner”. Rather than going for the retro-disco sounds of those works, the new material is cutting edge and in step with the current techno dance phenomenon dominating the club music scene. British songwriter and producers Taylor and Rawling (Gina G, Danni Minogue), presents Cher with the song “Believe”. She asks them to re-write the lyrics a number of times before agreeing to record the song. After recording Cher’s vocals, the producers hit upon the idea of processing some of the vocals with a Digitech Talker (aka “Autotune” processor). At first, they are nervous to play the track with the altered vocals, but once Cher hears what they’ve done, she immediately loves it. Warner Bros initially does not like the autotuned vocals and wants the effect removed, but the singer insists they remain as they are. “Believe” is an immediate smash in the UK, spending seven weeks at number one. Warner Bros in the US picks up the record for release on the back of its UK chart success. Entering the Hot 100 at #99 on December 20, 1998, it climbs to the top of the chart twelve weeks later. Cher makes history by having the longest time span between her first number one single (“I Got You Babe”) and “Believe”, which is thirty three years, seven months and three weeks. She also becomes the second oldest artist in Billboard chart history to top the Hot 100 (Louis Armstrong is the record holder at sixty two years, ten months and one week old at the time “Hello Dolly” is at number one), as she is fifty three years, nine months and three weeks old at the time “Believe” tops the chart. The single is also a massive worldwide hit, topping the charts in twenty three countries. “Believe”  wins Cher her first Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2000, also receiving a nomination for Record Of The Year. “Believe” is certified Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
