(Photo off of Google)Altar ToolsIn the previous post by Earthseer he talked about Altar set up and named to tools. So here I am to go in depth about the tools!
The Athame is by far my favorite tool. Not everyone uses an Athame and some prefer a wand over an Athame, but there are some benefits of using one! Athames are daggers for ritual, there is an old saying that if you hurt someone/something with your Athame you will be cursed. (If thats real or not who knows? Still don’t go around stabbing people it is illegal like… Everywhere.) Athames are great especially if your doing rituals outdoors, it makes drawing out a circle much easier in that tough dirt. When choosing an Athame ask yourself what you will use it for, if it suits you, and most of all if it feels right. If your drawn to it that is perfect!
Oh- a side note- do not believe the whole “black handle” thing. Athames do not have to have a black handle that is a myth you do not have to have a black handled athame to go with your altar.
Wands are beautiful, and hey they make you feel like a badass too! Wands come in all different shapes and sizes and types, just like Athames. I personally do not know too much about wands, I have yet to find the time to get one sadly, but here is a bit about them that is really helpful-
“A wand is used to concentrate, focus and direct energy. This energy can be drawn up the wand and directed out, or drawn into the top of the wand and directed down. You will direct the energy out when you are working to effect the world around you sending the power of your will forth. The energy will be drawn into the wand and directed down when you are working to bring a particular energy or effect to yourself to ground and bind it. The Wand is particularly useful in healings. You can draw the negative energy of the sickness into the bottom of the wand by placing it directly over the effected part of the body and concentrating on drawing up the unbalanced energy into the wand (think of a drinking straw), then releasing the illness into a bowl of salt or water through the top of your wand to be disposed of later. You can then draw energy down into the top of the wand from the healing power of the Sun, and, placing the top of the wand over the effected body part, directing and releasing this healing energy into the aura of your patient.” -Isis Books and Gifts
Candles, candles, candles. I just made Earthseer a bunch actually! Candles are amazing and always useful for an altar. What kind though? Want a money spell? A romantic spell? There’s a candle for that! But the basics are Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple and Green candles that symbolize the points of the pentacle- fire, water, air, spirit, and earth. These candles are often used for casting circles, working with deities, doing certain kinds of magick, rituals, spells, ect. If you do not have a particular deity you follow I would recommend these but your will is your own!
There are also God and Goddess candles- that represent the deity of your choice. Have a deity you follow? There’s a candle for that, too! Just look on Etsy or Ebay! These are particularly good if you are trying to get in contact with a deity of your choosing.
The Chalice (or otherwise known as the fancy wine-glass)
Yes, my girlfriend has this running joke calling it the “fancy wine glass”, which I guess it is true! She would call to me from the other room- “hey!! Get me the fancy wine glass!” and I can’t help but giggle. Anyways. As you may or may not know drinking wine is tradition in the holidays and during intricate rituals and leaving offerings to the Gods. Now, now don’t get excited, if your under 21, no matter what your doing, don’t get caught getting tipsy off wine, it’s illegal in the USA! Anyways, the chalice is very good for offerings to your favorite Gods and Goddesses, and I’m sure they appreciate it too.
No, not the ones that the creepy old witches on Supernatural stir and grin about saying they’re going to cook little children. (About a Boy?) Anyways, cauldrons are not always what they are displayed as on the television.
“In modern Wicca, however, the cauldron is still regularly used. It can be placed in a sacred or ritual circle and used to burn items during a ritual, to hold the ingredients necessary for a spell or incantation, for scrying in water, as a container for making brews and potions, or to provide a vessel in which transmutation, germination and transformations may occur.” -Witchcraft and Witches
The Pentacle… the symbol of Paganism, Wicca and all those involved as well. The pentacle is a symbol of the five elements- earth, fire, air, water, and spirit. This is a symbol of protection and what ever is inside it is protected, which is why when we cast spells we draw out a circle!
Incense- (another favorite!) sticks that are burned and used for various rituals and spells. Also used in air spells!
Crystals- are used for various practices and intentions depending on the stone. Example: amethyst is used mainly for healing!
Mortar and Pestle- For grinding up herbs or mixing.
Statues- Always look lovely on an altar! Raise the spirits and depending on what it is you can use it to honor what ever it may be.
Sage- Perfect for cleansing and smudging. Usually used with a shell called Abalone.
Now as mentioned in the previous post you do not need all of these! And your altar doesn’t have to look exactly like ones you see on the internet. Your craft is your own, I can’t stress that enough. So you don’t have to have a fancy wine glass or an athame. You can have what ever you want and more!
Favorite music artist: Do I have one? IDK, I have many
Song stuck in my head: Pocahontas: Just around the river bend
Last movie you watched: Tangled with a friend
What are you wearing right now: um, a turquoise pajama with clouds and stars
What do you post: My art, people’s art, and shitposts
Why did you choose your URL: Well, it was mostly because like I love my name; “Anette” which means graceful woman and “loli” for the anime girls…. CRAP, OK, I WAS A WEEB BEFORE!! WHEN I WAS WAY YOUNGER!!
What Did Your Past Relationship Teach You: Well, I’ve learned a lot from my past two relationships. In my first one, I learned that if you don’t actually feel something for the person don’t hook up with them. Since I was very, very shaken you could say, I didn't know what to do so I accepted a relationship where since the beginning it wouldn’t work and the girl was a fake bitch. In my second one, I learned that I need to have a strong connection with the partner and me searching for her all the time wouldn’t work at all. So in short if the relationship is a 50/50, then we’ll be okay. But in the first one, it was a 0/50 and the second one was a 30/10 if you get my point.

Researchers at the University of Washington say they’ve gotten computers to make robust 3-D models of celebrities’ faces from only online images. Once built, single images or video can control the model, making the simulated celebrity speak. The model can even be controlled by videos of other people, making a representation of someone like Tom Hanks or Barack Obama say things they have never uttered.
The team led by computer science and engineering professor Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman have advanced their machine learning algorithms, which track and reconstruct faces, to the extent that they can now map one person’s mannerisms and facial expressions onto another.
The work’s goal is to develop virtual three-dimensional models of people to reconstruct interactive historical figures and to give a new dimension to visual communications tools like Skype, Google Talk or FaceTime.
“You might one day be able to put on a pair of augmented reality glasses and there is a 3-D model of your mother on the couch,” said Kemelmacher-Shlizerman. “Such technology doesn’t exist yet — the display technology is moving forward really fast — but how do you actually re-create your mother in three dimensions?”
