“What do you want to be when you grow up?” you asked, your voice carrying in the sweet summer breeze.
Tom looked up from the flower crown he was weaving together, his brow furrowing in thought. “I don’t know….maybe an actor.”
“An actor?” you smiled, plucking a daisy from the grassy field. “Why?”
“I want to make people smile and make people laugh,” he replied, his hands stilling in his lap. “I want to make people feel things, you know?”
I was reading an interesting article today about relatives of famous people- or relatively famous- and it was talking about Dr. Charles Pepper, who the soda is named after. He was the oldest son, but he had a much younger brother, James Pepper. Their parents died when Charles was finishing his degree, so while the older brother got to go to college, James couldn’t afford to. This was just at the beginning of the Civil War, so James ended up volunteering to fight for the Union. As his brother was a surgeon for the Confederacy, this led to some tension in the family.
James was a fairly successful (and lucky) soldier. He joined up with the Army of Northeastern Virginia, which became the Army of the Potomac, and lasted longer than basically any general who led it. He fought at both Battles of Bull Run, Antietam, and was even present at Appomattox when Lee surrendered to Grant. He was injured during the war a few times, but never suffered any serious wounds. James worked his way up to an NCO position, and a lot of his soldiers looked at him as a good luck charm as they went into battle. He had some remarkable numbers when it came to keeping his men safe.
After the war ended, James stayed with the Army, even though he was advised that he wouldn’t likely ever advance into the ranks of full officer. It had effectively become his home by that point. Though he did struggle a little in the post-war military. Where his service and success was enough to keep him in his command’s good graces, the post-war military required more social maneuvering and politics. He had problems with this at first. A lot of it all took place in social clubs over card games, and during the summer of 1865, he was reprimanded and nearly cashed out of the Army over a fight he got into one evening with an officer. In the end, he apologized, he was told not to return, and that was it to settle the issue. He learned from it, and became much more mannerly and well-behaved in the circumstances.
So, all in all, that was Sergeant Pepper’s only Hearts Club ban.
Hey all, I just took the SAT chem subject test for the second time today and I feel good about this one. Well, I still was short on time but I still felt like this attempt was better than my previous one in May because I feel like I practiced more and I was more prepared. So I decided to share my tips on how to prepare for the SAT chem subject test.
I once answered an anon’s ask about how I was preparing for the SAT chem test, so I guess this is an extension to my previous answer lol.
(Most of these tips can probably be used to prepare for any SAT subject test, just replace “chem” with the subject you’re taking. But don’t take my word for it; every subject test is slightly different in how you should prepare. I’ll probably make one specifically about preparing for math ½ since I also took the SAT math 2 test a year ago.)
1. Taking AP chem will make you more prepared than taking a introductory class.
I don’t know how it works in all other schools, but my school offered an introductory, “first-year” chemistry class that most people take during their underclassmen years. I took it during the summer, so you can imagine that if the class was only “introductory” and really fast-paced, I wouldn’t have been prepared much for the SAT chem test. An introductory class only goes surface-level and doesn’t really go deep into the concepts that you need to know for AP chem.
AP chem, on the other hand, does go really in-depth with all its subjects and will make you more than prepared for the SAT chem. If you do well in AP chem (B or higher), then you’ll do minimal reviewing of concepts for the SAT and be more focused on getting used to the format and timing of the test.
Of course, there are still some things that the SAT chem test covers that isn’t covered by the AP, including basic organic chemistry and environmental chemistry. There’s also stuff that’s on the AP that isn’t on the SAT. How do you know which topics to study? That brings me to my next tip…
2a. Use at least one prep book.
Use a prep book that’s from a company with excellent reputation for being the most ACCURATE. A more accurate prep book can tell you exactly what concepts you need to know and what you don’t need to know, which is especially helpful if you took AP chem so you don’t overstudy and don’t miss out on the concepts that weren’t covered by the AP chem curriculum.
The prep books I used to prepare were “Cracking the SAT Chemistry Subject Test (15th Edition)” by The Princeton Review, “SAT Subject Test: Chemistry (13th Edition)” by Barron’s, and “The Official SAT Subject Test in Chemistry Study Guide” by College Board. I used Barron’s and College Board’s books mostly to take practice tests, and The Princeton Review to review the concepts that were going to be on the test. If anyone wants more information or more of my opinions on these three books, send me a message!
2b. Don’t buy prep books.
Let’s face it, the SAT chem test is involved in only a fraction of your life and you don’t need to spend $50 on prep books. Save money. Borrow a prep book from the library if your library offers them. Go to the bookstore, get the prep books, and sit down somewhere and just get to work. I went to a in-store cafe in my bookstore, bought a drink, and worked with a prep book. Totally fine. Just be careful to not deteriorate the condition of the book too much.
I guess you could try to find illegal copies of it online, but try getting the book legally first lol. And beware of the websites you’re visiting.
You can still buy prep books if you want, but this piece of advice is for the students whose family doesn’t have much money. I’m with you.
3. Practice as much as possible.
Practice not only for the content (you should know your stuff before practicing), but more for the format and timing of the test. Also, don’t just take a test, figure out your score, and move on. Actually take the time to go over the questions you got incorrect, omitted, and got correct but you just guessed. There were many times when I was getting certain types of questions incorrect multiple times for the same reason, and I’m glad I went over my mistakes because the exact type of question showed up on the actual SAT chem test.
Also this should be obvious but take a practice test in a setting as accurate to the real setting as possible. Alone, quiet, with an alarm set to one hour. The more accurate your practice environment, the more comfortable you’ll be when you’re taking the actual test.
4. Most of the time it’s better to skip it than to guess.
We all hate the guessing penalty that’s still placed on SAT subject tests. But you still need to know when to guess and when to not, and this decision-making part can be stressful and take up a chunk of your precious time on the test, so it’s best to practice making this decision when practicing.
My general rule is that if you can eliminate down to two choices, then you can guess. If you can only eliminate down to three choices or more, then don’t guess. Statistically speaking, majority is best, and since 50% is better and closest to majority than 33% or lower, you should only guess when you got a 50/50 shot. It’s better to be safe and earn and lose no points than to end up earning no points but losing a quarter of a point. And trust me, those quarter-point penalties add up to a lot.
5. Sleep. In the morning, follow your usual routine.
It’s important to sleep instead of staying up all night. But it’s still important to stick to your normal routine so your body isn’t suddenly thrown off its normal schedule that it’s used to. Sleep the amount of hours you usually get on average, but still aim for more than 6. In the morning, eat breakfast, but don’t eat a huge breakfast if you’re not used to it. If you always eat cereal, then just eat cereal, but add something small like a bowl of fruit. If you don’t eat breakfast, definitely just grab a granola bar before heading out.
Also, coffee. If you always drink coffee in the morning, then drink your normal cup of coffee. But don’t suddenly decide to drink stronger coffee or drink if you usually don’t because, like I said, you don’t want to throw your body off, and abnormal amounts of caffeine will definitely do that.
I tried to give as much advice as possible, but if anyone has any questions or concerns then feel free to send an ask or a message!
After your return, you made sure you and
Peter were on the same page. It was a long talk, it took maybe two hours, but
you both let everything out. Now, you felt everything was okay.
Later that week, Peter discovered that
some guys were selling weapons with alien technology. He called Tony and Happy
almost every day, but he never got answers. Peter went with the decathlon team
to Washington D.C. for their tournament. But you knew he went there to track
the bad guys.
As you sat in your room, you got tons of
messages from Peter. The power core from the weapon was basically a grenade and
it went off when Ned and the others were in an elevator in the Washington
Monument. Thankfully, Spider-Man made it just in time and saved them all. Then,
Peter went to the Staten Island Ferry and confronted all of them. While trying
to capture the guy with the wings, a weapon malfunctioned and the ferry teared
Before anything worse could happen, Iron
Man arrived and saved everyone. But then, he took Peter’s suit away because of
how reckless he was. When you opened the front door of your house, Peter was
wearing an oversized t-shirt and some pajama pants. But that wasn’t important,
what really mattered was that he was about crying.
‘’Pete, what happened?’’ you asked
softly, pulling him inside. He pressed his back against the closed door and
slid down. ‘’Please tell me.’’
‘’He… he took it’’ he told you before he
started sobbing. You need in front of him and hugged him. Peter hid his face in
the crook of your neck and just cried for what seemed like hours. ‘’Mr. Stark

before him. Your heart convinced you that the reason was to watch the
burning, yellow sunrise. However, your mind knew that it was to drown in
the self-doubt that lay at the pit of your stomach.
This little cycle of repetition started in the middle of summer break.
first few weeks of summer were spent drowning in tears and buckets of
ice cream to deal with Reggie, your first ever boyfriend, breaking your
heart. Then after the wallowing phase, Betty delivered the “you’re
strong enough to get over this break up” speech. It worked, perhaps it
worked a little too well.
Archie Andrews was someone you
never looked twice at, just the nice guy on the block that never crossed
your mind. But one blistering summer’s day, he was making his way home
after leading a hand at his dad’s construction site. White tank top
covered in sweat and dirt partnered with blue jeans, safe to say your
attention shifted in his direction. Every day after, you too walked the
same way, and one afternoon both of you collided with one another.
“Oh, I’m sorry”. Archie held you by the waist to prevent a fall.
Smiling sheepishly, “It was my fault. This hot weather seems to be taking a toll”. Adding a faint chuckle.
followed with one of his own, lifting his shirt to wipe the sweat that
rolled down his forehead, a flash of his lower stomach catching your eye. “Your Y/N, Reggie’s girlfriend?”.
The wound was still fresh, but you masked the painful reminder of the 2 weeks you spent sobbing and gave Archie another smile. “Ex-girlfriend, actually”.
His face dropped, unapologetic, just like everyone else that had heard the news.
“Anyway, I’m sorry for running into you. But I should really be going”. Waving
goodbye to Archie, that was the first real conversation you’d ever had
with him. And by the fate of the gods it wasn’t the last.

Archie pressed a kiss on the side of your neck, lingering as he did so. “The
way I see it, is we developed a connection over the summer. A physical
one clearly evident, and I won’t say no if there is something more here.
And if I get to stick it to Reggie as well, then that’s just a bonus”.
“Be careful what you wish for, Archie Andrews”. Tightening the bed sheets around you.
His hand massaged your shoulders, then slid down your arms. “I wished for an eventful summer and that came true, in more ways than one”.
Finding a loose opening in between the sheets, Archie’s hand
disappeared underneath, two fingers vigorously pumping simultaneously.

“Hey, Andrews! Heard you’ve been screwing my girlfriend”.
Archie was engaging in a conversation with Jughead by the vending machine, when
Reggie barged in with two of his football buddies behind him into the break room, heads snapped in his direction.
If scared was an emotion that Archie was feeling, he didn’t show any signs of it. “Don’t you mean ex-girlfriend?”.
“You son of a bitch”. Reggie lunged, but Jughead’s and Kevin’s fast reflexes blocked such an attempt.
Jughead shoved Reggie a few steps back, which did nothing but fuel Reggie’s anger. “Bad move, Jones. This doesn’t concern you”.
“Archie’s my friend, so yeah, it concerns me”. Jughead retorted back.

Reggie slammed the last nail in the coffin with his remark, cutting

After the nightmare of events, you
ditched the last two periods of school. There was no way that you could
stand and fake cheer at practice for Cheryl’s cheer leading squad, not
when your mind was preoccupied.
Your parents weren’t home,
away on business. And a small part of you jumped with relief that
questions weren’t going to be fired at you for coming home earlier than

unanswered on your phone. And their were going to stay that way until
the next day.
The doorbell rang, once, twice, and then Archie
announced that it was him. You let him inside and led him to your room.

Reggie’s fist had done. Touching his face, the side of his jaw had some
light bruising. Pair that with his busted lip and a tidal wave of guilt
came soaring over.
“I’m so sorry”.
Archie didn’t want to hear any of it. He gave you a hug, his chin resting on top of your head.
“I’m not going to have you blaming yourself, besides I’d like to think I
got in a few good digs at Reggie before he clocked me in the jaw”.
“Oh yeah, like what?”.
Pulling out of the embrace, he made himself comfortable on the foot of your bed. “Come on, please tell me?”. Pouting, not liking the idea of being left out in the dark.
Despite half his face being sore, he still managed to flash a tiny smile.

It was a small thing, those words. My girl. They sounded natural, as if

One of the perks of being friends with Rey was that her family owned a lake house, which she took you with her to visit during the summer. Of course, it wasn’t almost too perfect, and the cost was possible encounters with her horrible cousin Kylo.
“Oh come on Y/N, he’s not that bad,” Rey defends.
“Rey! He literally poured his milkshake all over me because I teased him about his motorcycle, he can’t take a joke. He always wants to get in a fight with me and-ugh I’m getting angry just thinking about him.”
You remember something else, “Oh and he’s also a complete perv, confirmed. Remember how he wouldn’t stop staring at me when we where getting ready to go out one evening, he’s an ass!” You add. “God I hate Ren,” You mumbled under your breath. He annoyed you to know end, if asked if you had any enemies you would probably say him.
“Yeah that was bad, but Y/N, that was a few years ago. He was still going crazy with all of those ‘boy’ hormones, he’s calmed down a lot.”
This is a poem about a walk I took during the worst summer of my life from my shitty apartment in Downtown Denver to a King Soopers grocery store. I wasn’t exactly sober and I really, really needed a Hershey’s cookies and cream bar, king size. This poem is not endorsed by Hersheys. Or King Soopers.

In the gameplay in Hotland, there is this purple monster teen with a red cap saying that all young monsters, who attended school, are in summer vacation at the moment. Does this mean the UnderTale event that took for one day is during the summer?
Skateboard Girl, as her sprite is called, does comically exclaim that it’s summer vacation. However, this contradicts the MTT News ticker seen during the bomb news segment.
Undyne also acknowledges that the two students are skipping.
UNDYNE: Huh? Those kids are skipping school? …well, I can’t blame them, school sucks!
It could be a case where Skateboard Girl is simply trying another excuse to skip classes. Her exclamation is the only mention of summer in the whole game, so it’s hard to use it as evidence when others imply that school is in session.
how did you and your sister get into photography? i wanna get into it and eventually freelance in my spare time when i get enough experience but don't how to begin and 2) have you both done wedding photography and if not is that something you'd be interested in doing? also do you think it's better to be self taught or is it okay to take a photography class at my local community college? like i feel like almost everyone is self taught and idk if taking a class is a waste
We have always been into anything art related. Our parents bought us small digital cameras for our birthday when we were in 5th or 6th grade I believe. We were always taking photos of nature, vacations, and various events. When we got to high school (right around the time dslr cameras were becoming available to everyday consumers not just professionals) my dad bought one for himself. At first our dad wouldn’t let us use it without him there but eventually when we got the hang of using it and he let us take it places without him there. Natasha started taking photos of school events and posting them on Facebook. I started doing the same but a little bit after her. Eventually she bought her own entry level dslr and I bought my dads old dslr when he upgraded his. By sophomore year we were both posting lots of photos on Facebook. We also started asking our friends if we could photograph them. We would style our friends and have mini photoshoots. This was all just for fun for us. We have always been into editorial makeup/photography and styling our own shoots was our way of getting into that. Then during the summer after sophomore year a student asked Natasha to take his senior pictures which she ended up doing did. And later more and more people asked both of us to take their senior pictures. We had no idea how to price anything or what to include in packages initially. After 2-3 years we both were honing in our photography style and were getting better at pricing and guaranteeing a certain level of quality to our clients. When we got to college we would go home and take senior pictures during the summers. In college we took peoples headshots. So it was overtime that we started our photography businesses. We didn’t start photography with the intention of making a business out of it/going into it professionally. We still ask our friends to photograph them and have mini photo shoots that we style. Its important to us to constantly create personal work as well as client work. During all of this we both tried our hand at surreal/photo manipulation photography but it wasn’t for us. By the end of high school and throughout college we also shot a few wedding but both didn’t like photographing weddings. By the time we finished college both of us realized that our favorite genre of photography is portraits. So now we mainly shoot headshots, portraits, and senior pictures professionally and create editorial shoots for our personal work.
Even though we both went to art school neither of us has taken a photography class. The photo department at U of M mainly focused on documentary photography which we were not interested in. Plus the photo professors were known to be sexist and/or racist. We are about 95% percent self taught. One of our digital media professors did help us learn some stuff in photoshop but that’s about it. When either Natasha or I start a hobby we go into it full force lol. So right when we got into photography we followed a TON of photographers online and were constantly trying to figure out how they edited there photos so we could improve our editing. Over the course of 8 years we have really developed our photography styles and editing skills. Early on we would sometimes try and copy other photographers which helped us figure out what we liked and disliked for our own photography. I don’t encourage people to copy other artists especially if they are going to sell their work. But it can be helpful when figuring out your own style but it’s important to make sure you are not ripping someone off and give credit where credit is due. When I would use another artists idea I always explained in the description who the artist was and linked to their work. A photographer I know was notorious for copying another well known photographer but her audience thought she was super original because they didn’t know about the well known photographer. Plus you will never be as good as the original photographer/artist and will end up constantly comparing yourself which is no fun lol.
Even though both of us are self taught I don’t think taking photography classes is a bad idea if you think it will help you learn. One of my favorite illustrators, Sam Spratt, took many illustration classes when he was at SCAD but that doesn’t mean he is any better or worse than other illustrators that are completely self-taught. I always wanted to take commercial/fashion lighting classes but they were never offered at my university. I also would love to take some photography workshops but they the ones I want to take (Lara Jade’s in particular) are too expensive for me. Also as an artist I’ve generally been self-taught. I had a few great drawing teachers and professors in high school (I took a college drawing class in high school) who helped me a lot. But when it comes down to being an artist you really have to push yourself to make stuff outside of class. This was a challenge for a lot of my classmates once we graduated. A lot of them didn’t know how to create work outside of class. (I’m simplifying a lot here bc i could go on and on about how much i disliked or liked u of m’s art school lol) My whole life I’ve been making stuff outside of class so creating a photography business wasn’t super difficult for me.
This brings me to the business/freelance part. Turning something you are passionate about into a business can be great and horrible. A lot of my friends don’t freelance because the business side of it destroys their interest in the art. Some of my clients are very particular and they don’t always like the photos I take. But this is something I have to get past. Also over time you start to get better clients because they come to you knowing what they will get. Early on people would hire me because they knew I took photos not because they liked my style of photography (I hope that makes sense). Now people know what they are getting and it’s less likely that a client will be unsatisfied with their photos. As a freelancer keep in mind that it’s a lot of emails and advertising yourself. Yes it’s great that I can make money off of something I love doing but I have to keep in mind that it’s still a business. When I first started out clients would ask for lower prices and I would lower them because I didn’t want to lose a client and I didn’t know if I was too expensive or not. This was fine at first but now I don’t budge on my prices because now I know my worth and it’s not fair to my other clients to change prices. Also photography gear can get expensive and when you freelance/do photography professionally there is a point when you’ll probably to invest in professional gear. Part of this is to put you among other photographers in the industry but the physical quality of your photos will also improve. This way you can better guarantee what a client will get. Ex. my dad’s old dslr that I used had a cropped sensor so if the lighting wasn’t the best i couldn’t edit the photos as much in photoshop as I can with a full frame camera. Basically I just want to make it clear that once you start freelancing it’s a business so just like other business you have to know when and where to invest and how much.
I’m sure you were not expecting this long of answer but I hope it helped!
I present to you, The Parent Trap AU (cause I watched the movie for the first time while brainstorming over the prompt)
In this AU, like the movie, Mai and Zuko have 2 children, twins, Izumi and Honora. When they’ve got separated, Mai took Izumi and stay in Fire Nation, Zuko took Honora and stay in Republic City.
Izumi and Honora met during a summer camp near the Earth Kingdom. Then they decided to bring their parents back together by switching places. Not going to say more stuff cause I don’t want to spoil the movie. And I guess Meredith is some random golddigging woman.
