too lazy to add anything else

cosmofex  asked:

There's something i've been curious about: How do you come up with the magic-scientific terminology? Because I have previously looked up "claudication" and it turns out it's a medical term for leg cramps which, unless i'm missing steps in the logic chain, doesn't lead to "worldgate" easily. Is it just what sounds nice and sciency or is it based on actual terminology? (also confusing is online dictionaries "use in a sentence" using YW quotes, which don't match meanings, so it's not super helpful)

I really have to find a little time in the next little while to get the new installation of the Errantry Concordance kickstarted. (The old one had to be removed because it was constantly under attack by hackbots of various kinds trying to use it to house links to counterfeit Viagra.) (sigh)

Anyway: Most wizardly terminology in the YW universe is derived either from (broadly) scientific terminology or (more narrowly) medical terminology twisted slightly out of shape and/or subverted to my own purposes. Almost all terms are derived from Latin or Greek roots and assembled in ways consistent with the ways in which scientific terms are formed. (I took Latin in high school because I knew it to be a primary language of science and felt sure I’d be wanting it in college. The Greek came along with that more as a gateway into the ancient classics than anything else, but it too gets used routinely in scientific terminology.) I prefer to use genuine scientific concepts and terms to generate wizardly ones, because (a) I enjoy it and (b) I am lazy. Why waste time and energy making terms up when so many real ones are  lying around just waiting to be used? …But also: wizardly terms constructed using valid scientific usage sound more real. And the more truth you add to a lie, the stronger it gets. :)

Re claudication: The word goes back, originally, to the Latin claudo- root that means to shut or block something up. It also later came to mean a limp or lameness secondary to what was seen in ancient times as a blockage of local blood supply. This is also where the Emperor Claudius got his common appellation, by the way: Claudius is a second name, almost more a nickname than anything else – and too easily translatable as “Gimpy”. He limped from childhood, secondary to a dystonic / movement disorder from which he suffered his whole life and which caused some members of his family (and the public in general) to think of him, and treat him, as if he was mentally deficient – which he definitely was not. (The forensic medical people are still arguing over what was responsible for this disorder: possibly cerebral palsy or a childhood neurological insult via something like infectious encephalitis. See this article for what look like the best conjectures so far.)

…Whatever: where were we? When I was studying nursing, the term claudication was in general use to describe a narrowing or constriction of blood vessels (up to the point of obstruction, anyway, at which point other terminology cuts in). So when I started thinking about the concept of giving wizards a little portable pocket in spacetime, the word “claudication” naturally suggested itself, and “temporospatial” seemed an unavoidable add-on.

Therefore the entry in the Concordance defines claudication as:

A pinching or obstruction in some structure or medium through which another medium is normally meant to pass or flow freely. In wizardly usage, a constriction – normally artificial, but occasionally natural – in the structure of space, or (in the case of temporospatial claudications) of spacetime.

The most frequent casual usage for the term describes a small, “pinched-off” volume of space. Since space is already amenable to this kind of pinching (a much gentler version of which manifests itself as gravity), many wizards use one of these to keep personal belongings in. A claudication can be “hooked to” or associated with a specific mass – usually the wizard’s own body – so that it permanently follows the wizard around and is always within reach.

The definition for temporospatial claudication is a bit more specific:

Any pinching or constriction that affects both a volume of space and a segment of time or timeflow. Usually a temporospatial claudication is artificially induced, but there are occasional incidences of the effect in nature. (Black holes, for example, can sometimes have temporospatial claudications associated with them.)

The term is also used to describe a small pinched-off volume of spacetime kept for wizardly purposes. (SYWTBAW, et al)

So there you have it. Thanks for asking!

How to colorize photos

Okay so here’s a bad attempt at a colorizing tutorial.. i use ipiccy.com for this because i want you guys to be able edit as well without paying for the newest, best photoshop. ps. ipiccy is free so yeah good shit right there

okay step 1: you’re going to go into the “professional touch ups” area, the icon should be a face. you’re going to want to choose the “sunny tan” (lol that name tho) and choose the center color because it is both red and yellow toned. and fill in her face and neck and whatever

you’ll see that the color is too harsh against the hair so we’re going to take the erase tool which i have clicked on in the screen shot

and you’re going to make your tool really big so that you can do a sort of “blending” effect into the rest of the hair, cuz we gonna do the hair laterr

step two: go to the little icon that looks like a dslr camera and find the curves tool we’re going to be using this for basically everything else

we’re going to be adding natural tones into the skin so i started with the “green channel” and “red channel” and you’re going to add this to the high points on the face (kind of like highlighting)

and make sure you blend this out as well you don’t want her looking crazy af

do the same with the blush

should look a little something like this.

step three: lips. ooh lalalalalalalal look at them lips okay anyway. yeah you can go crazy and do whatever the fuck you want. like whatever color you want.

step four: eye shadow time. ariana likes her warm, red, pink eyeshadow. so thats what i usually try to create. and you can add some other colors in her crease as well (this is actually a makeup tutorial y’all). do whatever the fuck you want lol such good tutorial but you can use the curves tool for this as well

step five: fix them brows. they too crazy. tone them down with a little black and white filter.

step six: time to do that hair. go back to the face icon on the top and find the “hair color” i usually go for a brunette type deal so yeah you can use the curves tool for this if you wanna do something else idk

then i just went in and added highlights and low lights, but i didnt catch that on screenshot so yeah fail.com

step seven: you want to find small details that need to be colored in like the glasses on her shirt. you can keep them silver or gold…i went for like a rose gold thing so yeah

ok we almost done but step 8: fix that damn skin tone. she look dead af. go back to the dslr looking icon and find the color balance. make it a little red and a little yellow. make sure you fade this out or else she gonna be looking like donald trump with too many spray tans and no one wants that. no one.

yep yep

before adding the color

after

okay step nine: color in her eyes. my lazy ass uses the hair color tool again although you can use anything you want. just make those eyes brown

almost done……..

last step is pretty chill just go back to the curves tool and change the tones to blend everything together. like add more contrast to the overall image or add a filter over it idc. be creative

i’ll post the final image after i post this “tutorial”

Let's talk about headcanons about Food

Now, Mod Sync here is a decent enough cook. Put a recipe in front of me and I’ll be able to cook almost anything, and I can cook some things from just memory. I was making omelettes and looking up recipes and I wondered “What about the Undertale cast? What do they eat outside the game?” So, here are some things I’ve thought up about the main four!

If anyone remembers the Anniversary Q&A that happened (oh, who am I kidding, of course you guys do), then we know some things about that already. HOWEVER, I’m only going to partially use this info here. These are headcanons after all, so I don’t have to quite follow canon.

Now, if you wish to continue, I shall leave these under a Read more, because this is gonna get wordy and also for you guys who are avoiding food for whatever reason. Also will include some other AUs.

((I drew something in response to this post I received yesterday that seemingly went largely unnoticed as a result of those ask memes I received in my inbox last night.

Voila! Fluff is temporarily a cat with soft, fluffy ears to boot (I was too lazy to add anything else). Feel free to send in asks pertaining to this M!A, if you so wish.))

Curtains Closed | Chapter 1

Art student looking for a flat mate.
I live in a two-bedroom apartment in the centre, near the University and I am desperate for someone to share it with, as the rent is too bloody expensive. I am up until three o’clock almost every night listening to records, smoking, and drinking. If that doesn’t repulse you and you’re willing to pay £100 a month then ring this number:
                                                  07795622515.

“Thank you,” Alex smiled at the waitress who had brought him coffee. He was sitting on a stool by the window in a small, homey café. Alex took the coffee mug into both of his hands and gazed out of the window, whose bottom half was foggy because of the temperature difference between the harsh Manchester weather and the cosy, warm coffee shop. He had always enjoyed people watching and was glad to find a place that enabled him to do exactly that.

Putting down the mug after he’d stupidly taken a sip of the beverage too early for it to not burn his lip, he looked at the stained piece of paper beside him again. He’d noticed it immediately after he had sat down at the table on a pile of newspaper and design magazines left there for the customers. The roughly scribbled-on paper was already decorated with stains in the shape of teacups, indicating that no one had paid any extra attention to it. He took it into his hands and examined it up close. It looked like it had been ripped out of a sketchbook- of course, an art student.

Alex had just moved to Manchester from Sheffield. He was starting his first year at university and also his first year living on his own, which proved to be much harder than he’d initially imagined. He had always lived in a world, which he had imagined in his head and in that perfect world he got to Manchester and was instantly greeted with a flat, a job, and a group of friends. The harsh reality of the city slapped him across the face the first day upon moving, when he realised that he had to physically go apartment hunting and that his parents were no longer there to help him with any of it. Now it had been a week since he’d stepped out of the train and he was getting more desperate by the minute. He checked different websites and newspaper adds every morning in the hopes of finding a small, rather cheap flat in the city, leaving the option to live in a dorm to be his last.

He squinted his eyes at the paper in his hands and shrugged his shoulders. What did he have to lose? He had the money, at least for now, and he was strangely drawn to the note. Was it the nice handwriting or the mystery person it belonged to he found intriguing? Without thinking about the dangers of calling a complete stranger with the intention of living with them Alex typed the number into his phone.

“’ello?” a man, or rather a young adult, answered. It occurred to Alex that he hadn’t thought about it being a woman for even a second.

“Err, hi. I’m callin’ about the note you left in the café at Oxford Road. Are-are you still lookin’ for a flat mate?”

“Wow, I didn’t imagine someone actually callin’ back on the offer,” the voice on the other side laughed rather cynically, “sure I am, are ya interested?” Alex noted by the accent the person wasn’t from Manchester.

“Yes, yes I am. I’ve been lookin’ for a place to live in the city, I just moved ‘ere from Sheffield.”

“I could tell from the accent, la. You probably want to see the place first, right? Come by at any time today, I’ll just get more pissed as the evening progresses, so I suggest you stop by before eight. Get a pen, I’ll tell you the address.”

“Oh, yes,” Alex looked around frantically before he spotted a pencil on the other end of the table, “okay, go on.”

“Corner of Princess and Bloom Street, the building’s not numbered, but it’s the first one on the right if you’re coming from Princess Street.”

“Thanks,” Alex said as he scribbled down the names of the streets, which he would have to look up later as navigating through the city was still an almost impossible task for him.

“If there’s a problem or sumthin’, you now have me number,” the boy said before hanging up.

He didn’t seem like a complete psychopath, Alex thought, although he didn’t even tell him his name.

He put down his phone next to the now almost cold coffee and pondered the outcome of this situation. The boy could be overly messy, or loud, or a complete dickhead for that matter. Or he could be entirely oblivious towards Alex, which he hadn’t decided whether it would be a good thing or not. Maybe he is a neat freak and Alex won’t be able to sit down on the sofa to eat his dinner without getting shouted at.

Hoping to at least get a good story out of it he downed his coffee and grabbed his wallet and phone before stepping out onto the busy street. He pressed his woolen coat closer to his body as he started walking towards a city map by a bus stop. He traced the coloured lines resembling the streets with his index finger until it stopped on Princess Street. Fortunately, it wasn’t far from where he was.

After a few minutes of walking he was standing in front of a post, which displayed the street sign of where the person from the phone call was supposed to live. Alex walked over to the first building on the right as he was told and looked at the list of residents. The building was a typical brick house with four stories and big, iron-framed windows, which were quite useless at retaining any heat during winter. Light in the flat over warmth, Alex thought. He searched for the boy’s name on the list, but had to mentally hit himself over the head when he realised that he in fact didn’t know his name. Alex pulled his mobile phone out from his pocket and rang the last number in his call history.

“You’re rather early, aren’t you?” the same voice from before answered.

“Sorry, didn’t have anywhere else to go,” Alex admitted shamefully.

“S’alright, you’ve caught me on me first bottle of the evenin’, so I’m still able to hold a conversation, I’ll be down there in a second.” With that the still mysterious boy hung up.

Alex’s nerves were getting to him as the meeting with the possible serial killer neared and he found himself repeating please, be normal, please, be normal in his head until he saw a pair of skinny legs running down the stairs to open the entrance door.

He was more than surprised to find a boy, a very attractive boy, probably the same age and just a tad bit taller than him standing in the doorway. He had brown hair that covered his forehead but stopped just conveniently to let his big eyes peak through the fringe and then it continued to curl at the level of his ears. The boy was wearing a navy blue sweatshirt that, to an extent, hid the fact that he was beyond skinny and a pair of tight jeans that proved his observation even further.

Alex only realised he had been staring for too long when the boy smiled, showing his slightly crooked teeth and full cheeks, and asked if he was alright. When Alex nodded, the boy gestured for him to follow.

“I’m Miles by the way,” he turned around on the stairs and smiled at him again. For some reason Alex knew he was only smiling so much because he had apparently drank too much already, but he still found it quite endearing.

“I’m Alex,” he snapped out of his thoughts again, “where are ya from? You don’t sound like you’re from ‘round here.” he inquired.

“Me family’s from Meols…that’s near Liverpool,” he added as Alex made a face signaling complete confusion, “I moved to Manchester last year for school.”

Miles stopped in front of the door with the number 4A; they were on the top floor. He opened it and moved to the side to let Alex walk in first.

Alex found himself standing in a large, spacious sitting room. Spacious mostly because of the lack of furniture; the only being a red sofa in the middle and a floral-patterned armchair opposite to it. A pile of neatly stacked books was used as a coffee table and apart from that, only a turntable and dozens of scattered records filled the room. A few unframed sketches and photos decorated the otherwise white walls. Alex walked over to the big windows he had noticed from downstairs and looked out of them onto the street below him.

“S’nice view, innit?” Miles observed Alex, secretly hoping he would agree to move in right away.

“Yeh-yes, it’s amazin’, must be even better at night,” he leaned onto the glass with his hand.

“Come on, I’ll show you the bedroom,” Miles pointed towards the two closed doors on his left. Alex followed him towards the one closer to the windows. The room was exactly the right size for Alex; he never enjoyed big bedrooms as they lacked the needed coziness. It had the same window as the ones in the living room and walls exactly the same colour. Luckily, there was a double bed in the opposite corner, so he was speared of a visit to Ikea.

“So?” Miles followed Alex’s face in case he was to miss an unpleasant expression, “what do you think?”

“It’s not much,” Alex stated, but seeing the boy’s face sink he added, “but it’s exactly what I was lookin’ for.” Although he knew nothing about this boy except the fact that he wasn’t really a fan of furniture, but compensated it with hundreds of records and cheap wine by the smell of things, he had a strange feeling they would get along well. Even if they would not, he could probably stomach a few months with him and hopefully find a better place once he got to know the city a bit better.

Miles showed him through the rest of the flat; the small black and white tiled kitchen that smelled of burnt toast and the similar looking bathroom with a rustic bathtub with golden taps. Though it was all quite unnecessary because Alex had long ago decided he would take on the offer, partly because he was too lazy to look for anything else and partly because of the skinny boy that he was to share it with.

“So?” Miles asked again.

“I’d be happy to move in,” Alex answered after giving the apartment one final look.

“Great!” Miles exclaimed, his face beaming.

“When can I move in?”

“Anytime, really.”

“A’right, I just ‘ave to get me things from the hostel I’m stayin’ at, so I’ll be here in an hour or so and pay you right away!” Alex said nervously as it was all moving too fast, he imagined it would be a much more complicated process and take a lot longer. He dismissed Miles’ offer of helping him get his stuff and he promptly left the building, eager to be back there as soon as possible, getting to know his new flat mate.

Hey! So as you can see, I started a new fic, giving myself a bit of a break from ‘Band Shirts Add a Certain Romance’, although I’m going to finish it eventually, don’t worry! I decided to stop it at a convenient point with no cliffhangers and now I’m planning on finishing it with a long chapter that I want to to be extra good, so please be patient! :) I hope you like this one, though x

(Next chapter coming soon!)

Caffeinated Adds

aka. How the Adds drink their coffee and how they react to it.

Mastermind likes his coffee with very little sugar, making his drinks hold a sharp bitter taste that almost no one else can drink.  He doesn’t add sugar, milk, or anything else because he’s too lazy to bother.  He likes his coffee very bitter because it jump starts his system and keeps his mind focused.  Thanks to his lousy habit of falling sleep in late hours after working nonstop, MM is codependent on coffee.  Without coffee, he is very irritable and will snap at everything.  It is best not to disturb MM early in the morning until he gets his ritual coffee.  Once he drinks his coffee, he’s more civil and is very focused.

Lunatic Psyker likes to try out different types of coffee every day, so the taste of them vary.  One day he may try adding condensed milk, another day he’ll be drinking his coffee as bitter as MM’s.  His coffee doesn’t always come out right, so he has weird results of experiments that include adding lots of nutmeg, cinnamon, and chili pepper LPpls.  LP actually gets some sleep, so he is not as dependent on coffee as his other counterparts.  He drinks them when he needs an energy boost and is working on difficult research or wants a shortcut breakfast.  Once LP drinks coffee, he gets happier and more energetic, more often annoying MM and DE than doing much damage.

Diabolic Esper with coffee is like letting a child take control over a coffee machine.  He loves to add lots of sugar cubes to his coffee because it gives him an hour of energy spikes, but regrets it later when he crashes.  MM and LP love to pick on him for drinking coffee like a child because of this.  It is common for him to try to make a cappuccino with layers of caramel and other sugary hells that would make MM cringe thinking about it.  DE’s sleeping habit is even worse than MM’s, so his dependence on coffee is just as bad.  Without coffee, his mood is unpredictable and he giggles a lot, making lots of dumb comments/jokes.  Once he has his coffee, he calms down a great deal and is able to concentrate on what matters to him.

my new name for those icee slush pouches you buy from the market is “devil juice” cause when you drink it it kills a little of your insides with every sip and burns your throat like yr snorting straight lava i swear to jesus god christ whatever whoever made this was too lazy to add anything else or a souless demon who just thought “i’m going to just put the syrup straight up in this shit for the lols” because by god if this isn’t just straight from the pits of hell then i don’t know what’s real or what isn’t anymore

Um, what’s happening, gang?

So I don’t know how many folks saw @aldersontrash‘s post regarding Rami’s response to Christian’s reference at PaleyFest to Martin’s statement at NYCC (wow that’s a mouthful), but I was about to add what I’m putting below when it wouldn’t let me reblog because the post had been deleted.

I’m not sure what happened to cause the deletion of the post, but I have a sinking feeling that whatever it was wasn’t positive or good, and I just really want people to be able to express their ideas and opinions without fear of bullying or hate. From what I can tell of the fandom thus far, we’re a smart, kind, conscientious bunch that should be able to have open discourse, even when we don’t agree.

Anyway, I wrote the following:

I was at this panel too, and I also noticed that Rami seemed uncomfortable with Christian’s reference to Martin’s statement at NYCC. Rami kind of pulled his face a bit and said something disapproving, but I don’t remember his exact words and I’m too lazy to go look at the panel video right now (I haven’t actually watched the panel video so I’m not sure how audible Rami’s verbal response is?).I only wanted to add, for whatever it’s worth, that my reading of Rami’s issue with this is more from a character standpoint than anything else. Like, I don’t think he sees it for Elliot, and I think the same is true for Martin regarding his reading of Tyrell.

I can absolutely see Tyrell having more going on for Elliot than just fsociety, but it’s something I don’t see Elliot reciprocating. That’s just how I read the characters.  I get the sense that both Martin and Rami are consummate professionals who take their craft and characters seriously, and that whatever Rami’s issue is, it’s not personal.

There are other fandoms [*cough* spn *cough*] where ships in general and bringing those issues up to the actors have become so toxic and controversial that there have been real-world consequences for fans. My hope for this fandom as it grows and matures is that we all respect one another, the actors, and the production team, while also cultivating an environment in which open discourse thrives and in which everyone feels safe and accepted, whatever their interpretation of the source material. Our fandom is still so young and relatively small that we can steer this ship (pun not intended) wherever we want.

Study tips part 1

Ok so I have gotten so many asks wanting study tips so I have come up with the best list I could think of. This is a fun list and I will include what I recommend you do and then what I actually do… I’m not the best person to take my own advice!

These tips aren’t gospel and they are just what works for me.

1. Find a nice quite space to study

Find what’s best for you, do you like studying with a group? Do you like a nice quite library or do you prefer to study alone at your house?

The library is great, it has internet, support, heat and so many sources available to you.  So many of my friends take advantage of the heating in the library, paying for heating as a student isn’t always something we can do so go where you can get warm and comfortable.

A study station with a group of people is my personal favourite. I like having a familiar place that I can return to everyday and is out of the house. This year 8 of us worked as a group asking each other questions or studying quietly, it’s nice to have the support there and it’s good to get out of the house.

Studying at my desk at home is the option I used to prefer. I liked being comfy at home in my pajamas eating loads of food and generally being a slob. I found that this eventually affected my mental health and made me feel horrible. I loved being able to be a slob but it wasn’t for me.

2. Eat!!

Eating is so important and it is often forgotten, it is vital to nourish yourself. You need to eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is really important, remember you are wanting to nourish yourself but if you are running out of food or if you are feeling lazy and feeling that making breakfast seems like too much of an effort then just eat something, don’t go without food!!

3. Hydrate

You need water! You need so so much water, you probably think you are drinking enough but you aren’t, drink more!!! If you don’t like drinking water for some crazy reason then add some squash to water or try infusing your water with fruit to make it more appealing and tasty. Don’t replace water with juice, coffee, energy drinks or anything else, you need water!!!

4. Take notes

Make notes whatever way suits you, posters, cheat sheets, flash cards, using a dictaphone, drawing pictures, spider diagrams… there are so many options! I will make another post at some point about all the different types of notes I use. As the exam date draws closer my favourite option is posters. I use loads of different colours and A3 paper.Get yourself some nice stationary and paper and you will be more motivated to get work done

5. Take breaks

Don’t sit for hours at your desk, take some time to stretch your legs, move around, get fresh air and have a cup of tea or coffee!

6. Exercise

Do some exercise, no matter how small it is really helpful. Exercise is important to use up the physical energy you usually use up moving around doing every day things. Sitting at a desk studying is exhausting mentally but not physically. It can be hard to sleep if you keep sitting still all day. Go to the gym, do some yoga, pilates, run, boxing, walking… do what you enjoy!

7. Sleep

You need sleep to remember things, no matter how tempting it is to stay up a few extra hours and try get some more content covered. You need sleep to process the information you read and learned that day. Sleep is important!!

“AU where the Purple Guy is a dirty cop involved with the mafia, and he basically fucks up and disrespects the mob leader. The leader kills P.G’S family.
Not long after, the leader holds a birthday party for his kid at Fazbears, and P.G takes revenge by slaughtering his kids, and some of his kids friends.”

I’m gonna do something with this I swear
I cba adding anything so as far as I’m concerned this is done because I’m too lazy to add anything else
