Another alternate design for Jurassic Park’s visitor center rotunda, this one by concept artist Tom Cranham. Here, the art team is beginning to narrow in on elements that closely resemble those used in the final design for the film.
Dinosaur cartoons by Jurassic Park art department. Some of these even made it into the movie as props, noticeably “Nervous Rex” (by Tom Cranham) and “Will Hunt for Food” (by David Lowery), which can be seen among newspaper clippings on the wall in Grant’s digsite trailer.
One of the notable omissions from the Jurassic Park story when adapting it from the book to the big screen, is a sequence in which Grant and the kids make use of the island’s river system to reach the visitor center. The river ride takes them past dilophosaurs, through the pterosaur aviary, and culminates in a thrilling encounter with a swimming tyrannosaur. Dropped from the screenplay early on due to budget and story pacing, the encounter is depicted in this Tom Cranham conceptual painting.
