to busy for food

San Myshuno, November 2016

It’s early morning in San Myshuno. Lala Reyes wakes up before the rest of the house, and walks down to the spotless penthouse kitchen to prepare a big breakfast for Remy. She knew it was old-fashioned, and Remy never demanded it of her, but she enjoyed cooking and cleaning for him. Lala was good in the kitchen, and she found it particularly enjoyable to cook in a modern kitchen with pricey appliances. She is so busy setting the table with the food she’d prepared for Remy she doesn’t notice Nico Holmes behind her.

Nico: That smells good.

Lala turns around, startled. She clasps her hands nervously in front of her.

Lala stutters: Hello, Mr. Holmes. I’m Lala Reyes. We met yesterday? I’m Remy’s girlfriend.

Nico gives her a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes.

Nico: Call me Nico.

Day Without Immigrants protest inspires restaurants across the country to halt service Thursday

  • As more restaurateurs and chefs speak out against the Trump White House, the culture and privilege of dining out has become inseparable with issues regarding immigration reform.
  • Following suit, a planned Thursday protest, entitled A Day Without Immigrants, will leave plenty of food service establishments and hospitality businesses unstaffed by the immigrants who help these institutions run on a day-to-day basis.
  • Many D.C. restaurants are planning to close or curtail service. Read more (2/15/17 7:13 PM)
