to a rainbow oblivion

Oblivion

Song fic based on the song ‘Oblivion’ by Bastille

When you fall asleep with your head upon my shoulder.
When you’re in my arms but you’ve gone somewhere deeper.

It’s raining. A steady pitter against the window pane. The world is grey.

But he’s alive.

The rhythmic beat of rain is sporadic compared to the even rise and fall of his chest as he sleeps.

Our time is dwindling, but I can’t help but selfishly wish it was a hurricane instead of a gentle breeze blowing him away from me.

A slow goodbye is more painful.

When oblivion is calling out your name

I let my hands run over his shoulders, down his arms, before bringing them to the sides of his face. Then our lips are brushing, and neither of us pull away because there’s always the thought in the back of our minds.

What if this is our last?

His breath is on my lips and his eyes, brilliantly blue, are fixed on mine. My heart flutters.

I’m in love with him.

When you play it hard, and I try to follow you there.
It’s not about control but I turn back when I see where you go.

Rain still falls. The heavens are weeping for lost things, for what I’m losing, for what Simon’s losing.

Everything.

But oblivion is calling out your name,
You always take it further than I ever can.

The dawn rolls in, silent and golden. It’s the first time the clouds have parted in days. His heart beats against mine as we lay tangled together, and I know that if this is all we have, all I have, then I can’t let it slip into oblivion.

I can’t let him go.

But oblivion is calling out your name,
You always take it further than I ever can.
