This was perhaps the greatest assembly of wrestlers that TNA ever held. TNA World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle set up matches for his stable mates at Victory Road, including Kevin Nash defeating AJ Styles for the TNA Legends Championship, Booker T and Scott Steiner defeating Beer Money for the TNA World Tag Team Championships, and Angle himself successfully defending the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Mick Foley.
When I first saw Jake, I was amazed at how tall he was. We shook hands, I greeted him, he smiled, and throughout the remainder of the night, I honestly didn’t see him when he wasn’t smiling very many times. He had a side room set up for him by the promoter, but he left that room to come out and chill with the rest of the boys. One of the things he did was compliment my skill on the mic, even though the entire dialogue was targeted directly at him. When I asked for this picture, he was happy to do so and said “Of course, brother.”
Right before we took it, the photographer said “Alright, act like you like each other.” Jake held up the middle finger and quickly put it down right before the flash went off, which is why we were both laughing. Pardon my matted-down hair (the venue was hot as fuck), but the smile is completely genuine. It was one of the proudest days of my life, and Jake was more than happy to make it as such.
