tmnt characters

one of the best parts of today’s episode, and possibly the best highlight over all?

Casey Jones straight up murdering a man, and saying “Whoops.”

his whole expression, his tone of voice, my god.

I don’t know who animates for him specifically, but let’s give them a slow clap everyone. because this part right here, this split second scene? it gave me more emotional impact than any other portion of the episode, and actual chills down my spine.

Casey Jones attempted to kill a man, and probably didn’t feel anything but pure hate for him. god damn.

Musing about being a POC and queer individual in the TMNT fandom:

I think the hardest part of being in the TMNT fandom for me is the fact that I am not white, am not straight, am not cis, or even neurotypical, and… I identify fairly hard with the turtles because of those things.

But then… they’re drawn or written as all of those things probably 90% of the time when people are humanizing them, and its just. so hard. to let that go, even though those people have no idea they’re affecting some random person across the internet. Compared to the hundreds of others who don’t feel this way, my personal opinion doesn’t really matter.

I don’t hold it against anyone for their headcanons, and I have never a day in my life sent hate to a person for having those headcanons, since I know those depend almost entirely on the personal life and experiences of those individuals.

They still bother me though, since I feel like it erases a large part of what the turtles’ identities are, which is being a minority among minorities.

They’re the only four of their kind, and pretty much utterly isolated from the rest of the world. They’ve never fit in, and never will, because they are inherently different from the rest of society. They are, in a phrase, freaks of nature.

My circumstances aren’t as extreme, not even close, but I know that feeling on a personal level regardless. Having them portrayed as the socially acceptable norm, it erases a large part of what makes them so interesting; which would be their sheer alien-ness from the rest of us. By making them ordinary cis white straight etc etc in humanized headcanons, I feel it takes away from their original characterization as a minority.

And it just really bothers me, as a single individual in the fandom, to have characters I identify with so strongly become pretty much the complete opposite of who and what I am, and thusly become no longer relatable. It’s just a difficult thing to deal with sometimes, especially since I have no power to change it other than ignoring the content I don’t like.

I hope no one takes this as an insult to their personal headcanons about the series; its just the words from someone who’s never fit correctly to any box, and found a strong connection to four characters who I felt were similar to me in that sense.

Can we talk about Mikey’s skills for a moment?

He was able to sneak up behind Leo, wrap his arms around him and cover his mouth to silence him. WITHOUT MAKING A SOUND.

Leo had no idea that he was following him, he had no idea of Mikey’s presence on the rooftop. And he wasn’t aware that his little brother was right behind him at all the entire time.

That takes skill to catch LEO of all people off guard when he’s in full on mystic mode.

If Leo was an enemy and Mikey was trained to kill his targets: Leo would be dead.

Splinter has said that Mikey possessed the most raw talent of his brothers combined. Meaning he has the most potential to go above and beyond if he only focused and polished his abilities as a Ninja as much as his other hobbies.

The purest cinnamon roll of the group, the one who brings sunshine when his family is surrounded in shadows: has the most potential to become a assassin level ninja if he focused his time and energy on his training.

Really think about that.

Should I feel bad about thinking that the show kinda stripped April of her purpose and just covered it up with mental powers? I mean good for her for having powers but since they really didn't do anything backstory wise , it seems like a wasted opportunity for another female character. Also since it seems like they don't want explore her or Casey's day to day life , I feel like i can't really relate or attach myself to April and Casey as characters.

I actually dont relate to that, but i do hear what your saying.

For me, April having mental powers, didnt strip anything away, but really molded her into a heroic icon….I say shes better then the 80s April or the 2003 one. Those two, annoyed me to no end. Anyways, we do know a lot about April then Casey though.

  • She lived on the farmhouse till six years old ((or when her mom got nabbed, im assuming that))
  • She and her mother were experimented on.
  • When the show began, it seemed she has contacts and braces off, but in a picture ID we found out what April looked like in grade nine, shes 16 in the beginning so Ill assume shes probably nearing freshman year or, shes just starting her sophomore year
  • She was friends with Irma for a whole year, so she met Irma before the show, maybe.
  • She was a cute baby <3
  • She like skulls > recalling her bed comforter<
  • She loves the colors yellow and black
  • Her hair is adorable when its down, I assume she keeps it up ALOT since she has that kinda hair bump you get when you keep your hair up so much

If im missing anything else please feel free to add on!

  • He has a father, and a little sister
  • Either he lost his mother to death, she went missing like April’s mom, or his father and mother divorced
  • He had a friend since the 2nd grade that he had lost due to a hockey accident
  • He went to Cooney Island as a kid
  • Hates dubbed anime
  • He’s 18
  • Im betting he’s a probably a Junior or Senior.
  • We also learned in season 2, noone wanted to tutor him. So he sucks at school
  • He also wants to become a bounty hunter.

Thats all i can really think of for him, if theres more feel free to add on!

Hopefully we will get more from these two in season 5, HOPEFULLY!

Really if Ciro actually did a season six of this show, that season could give us more backgrounds on at least Casey, cause he is the most non developed, we know nothing about his family. Id love to have something like that at least. Or give us a special about Casey. Or something.

Just a thought really.
