tips on studying? im going to be a junior this year and it's going to suck :c
eeeeeeeeekkk super late reply anon im so sorry. but coming to me for study tips is actually not the best idea haha. i tend to leave everything to the last minute, not sleep much and be a big ol’ ball full of stress. but here it goes ^^ (ill probs add a read more to this)
11 STUDYING TIPS FROM SOMEONE WHO NEEDS TO STUDY MORE
Tip 1. Have a Quiet, Calm Place to Study
I’m sure most people have something like this anyway but (for me at least) having somewhere where no one can distract you and you can just engulf yourself into your work is great ! You can think more clearly and not be tempted to do something else as no one else is around you.
Tip 2. THROW AWAY YO TEC.
If you’re doing math equations or doing study that does not revolve around a device, put the device away. Turn it off. Put it in another room. Let it go flat. Don’t let yourself be distracted by it. For me, I tend to go on my computer/phone when studying to send someone a message or respond to a message and next thing I know, it’s 2 hours later and I’m watching hair and makeup tutorials on youtube.
Tip 3. BLOCK WEBSITES
So what happens if your writing essays or doing research tasks and you NEED your computer? BLOCK SOCIAL NETWORKING WEBSITES. JUST BLOCK THEM. Web browsers have an option where you can set restrictions in regards to what websites you can go on. Block ANYTHING that you use to procrastinate: tumblr, facebook, twitter, gaming sites, youtube etc. This way you cant actually go onto the website without going through the unblocking process and lets be honest, who can be bothered to do that?
Tip 4. STUDY TIMETABLE.
They sound nerdy af but they help heaps (if you follow them). I have one of these but I more so follow it a few days before the exam/due date (WHICH IS A BIG NO NO). For example, on one day I may get home from school at 4pm and eat and relax until 4:30. I then tell my self that at 4:30 I will do maths until 5:30 (I generally start at 5ish because I cant be bothered ha). After I am finished with maths I may work on an assignment until 6:30. From 6:30-7:30 I eat dinner/shower/relax that fun stuff and then afterwards I may do another subject until 8:30 and then another until 9:30 and go to sleep (I get tired way too easy ha). Because I wake up at 5am every morning (stupid body clock not letting me sleep in ever) I tend to do all the fun stuff like watching tv/cosmaking/computer until I have to go to school. – THIS IS GENERALLY FOR THE SECOND WEEK BEFORE EXAMS. THE WEEK BEFORE I SCHEDULE NO FREE TIME WHAT SO EVER ;;;;;(
Tip 5. DONT LEAVE THINGS TO THE LAST MINUTE
Dear god don’t do this. Just, just don’t. We’ve all heard it before but we really need to. Just don’t. Do a little but of study every night. Even if it is just for 5-10 minutes read over your notebook, go over things you learned in class. Do a few math equations to help it settle in your brain. If you have an assignment due in 3 weeks try and write 100 or so words on it every couple of nights. You’ll thank yourself dearly for it.
Tip 6. TAKE DOWN AND HAVE PRETTY NOTES
If you look in one of my notebooks its like a colour EXPPPLLOOSSSSIIIOOOOONN~ ok not really. But make use of colours ! write bits of key information in another colour. If a teacher says something that sounds important right it in a pink pen. That way it stands out against the blue. Also make sure your taking down things as notes and not full sentences. It’s soooo much easier to study that way so your not searching through all the info
Tip 7. USE YOUR TEACHERS
TEACHERS ARE TEACHERS FOR A REASON. ASK TO SEE THEM AT A LUNCH TIME / BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL TO GO THROUGH SOMETHING. ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS. BE AN ACTIVE LEARNER.
Tip 8. ASK FOR TERM OVERVIEWS
Ask your teachers for a term planer or for an overview of everything you’ll do that term. That way you can do some prior reading before they teach it to you OR if you miss a lesson you can easily see what you missed out on so you can catch up ^^
Tip 9. TAKE BREAKS and PREPARE YOUR MEALS PRIOR WHEN YOU HAVE EXAMS COMING UP
Don’t study from 5am-1am with no breaks. It will drive you insane. But be cautious with breaks. Make sure your 10 min break doesn’t turn into a 10 hour break.
- to get around this have everything you need nearby. try and prepare meals in advance so you don’t spend 30 minutes making a sandwich and cleaning up all the mess
Tip 10. CLARIFY YOUR RESULTS
Too many times has a teacher marked something thats right as wrong. Go through your exams, cross check them with friends. Ask your teacher to have another look through it (particularly in maths. do this in maths. )
TIP 11. DONT STRESS.
This is very hypocritical of me to say this but take a breather. Don’t stress. Junior year is a lot of work I’m not going to lie. But try and enjoy it too ! It’s ok if you don’t get an A on that assignment. Junior year (y11) is a practice run for Senior year (yr12). It does take some adjusting to but once you understand the amount of work you have to do, it is easy peasy ! ^^
Good luck with your studying <3
