I got a bit distracted here when I started thinking about Mokona and how she’s not even here and yet they’re talking anyway. I can only guess that Mokona’s translations have been becoming more and more long range. In Hanshin they couldn’t understand each other until they were at least within eyesight of Mokona, but both in Koryo and here the family has split up and had no trouble with communication. And come to think of it Sakura had no trouble at all speaking with Emeraude despite the fact that she was all alone with her in that castle, it must work over a much larger radius than I was first aware of. I can only guess that Hanshin was actually a huge metropolis and Mokona was taken all the way over to the far side of it to have her powers stop working entirely, but then again magic, so maybe I’m not supposed to think about it too much.
Either way, I always like when Clamp pulls these motivational speeches to show that everyone has worth and can help in some way, and it will always mean more than you think it will. It’s an excellent message to give to anyone, and especially interesting to hear it coming from Fai (though mostly because I still have no idea WHAT HE DID). On the other hand, I will always like this message more when it’s not advice given to the only girl in a group self-sufficient men - but I’m holding out for Sakura improving later on, because I need it. There haven’t been any women fighting ‘on screen’ yet, even from our veteran Clamp warriors (Arashi just stayed at home, Chu-nyan was de-aged, and though Yuzuriha fights we haven’t seen it), but soon? Hopefully? This is important for me. BUT STILL. NICE REASSURING MESSAGE AND STUFF. YES GOOD.
I will never get over Sakura being so genuinely impressed with everyone she meets. She’s known Fai for a while now but even so she’s so INCREDIBLY happy just to learn about how skilled he is. SAKURA IS THE BEST OKAY. HOW RARE OF ME TO SAY THIS.
But I also have no idea what Fai is doing by attributing all his skills to his magic. Like, yes, these are all transferable qualities, but Fai has been pretty firmly on the “What? Magic? Who even… what are you… I have no idea what you’re even implying how dare you”. I mean, I’m exaggerating, but it’s always a firm “no” whenever Kurogane brings it up, so I’m not sure why he would bring it up voluntarily here. I get the feeling he’s probably just being playfully modest, but still, I can never be sure with Fai. Maybe he feels a bit more kinship with Sakura on this topic, since she’s kind of the closest thing they have to another spellcaster in the family. CCS!Sakura definitely was, after all, and this Sakura can see ghosts, so fingers crossed for her developing something else as well.
…but still, “the drawings were a part of my magic”. I originally read that as “the cat drawing itself was made via magic” but that can’t possibly be right. Does he mean his form of magic requires him to draw things? Which is how he can draw cats? Is that what he’s meant to be saying? English why must you be so vague.
But all that aside, please enjoy the fact that when given praise Fai’s response is to cup his face in his hands, pull a cute face, kick one leg up behind him, and speak with an musical note.
Okay, I wanted to wait at least till the end of the Piffle arc, but who am I kidding, I am not a patient person. Soooo Nick, you are incredibly nice and intelligent and fun person. Thank you for weekly supply of painfully beautiful CLAMP experience! I just wanted to give you something nice in return and this strange picture was born. Fai and Kurogane are being Fai and Kurogane here, Sakura is slightly confused by your avatar picture, Syaoran is full of his own brand of fiery determination. And Mokona is just full of loooove for everything! Anyway, thanks for inspiration to draw first TRC pic in last four or five years. And since winter is coming it’s CLAMP, I wanted to give you this innocent and silly stuff when it still matches the mood. Oh, and please ignore messy text and awkward attempts to hide mistakes! here I’m saying something lame about English not being my native language
Have fun with future chapters!
THIS IS INCREDIBLE
I AM SO TOUCHED.
I’m actually beyond words, I’m so blown away. I’m going to treasure this.
