*All principals, except Sarah-Jane Rennie as Carlotta instead of Andrea Creighton. Which is kinda unique, cause I tend to be a major understudy/alternate magnet.
*Zorlu is an amazing venue.
*Istanbul audience is (based on one performance, mind you) quite horrible. Little or no response throughout, they don’t give the cast anything to work with. And jeeeez the excessive use of mobiles IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOW. Grumble. Yeah, I did tell the lady + daughters in front of me to shut it the fuck off. So much glowing screen in my face for the First Lair, totally unacceptable. Nice standing ovation after the show, however.
*Shaaaaarp visuals. The stage looks so rich, with lovely lighting and fresh looking drapes, and the costumes truly comes to life.
*Brad Little’s hands tho’…!!!!!!!!!
*Whoever they got on 1st violin worked wonders. The WYWSHA violin solo was outstanding, but good shit in general.
*Effective amplifying, especially the “pulse” and organ sounds, and also fab surround sound for the Phantom’s voice.
*They had pumped up the resonanse and/or echo on Brad Little’s voice. A lot. Which everyone should be happy about…
*That is not to say he didn’t blow me away. Cause he did. He’s dug down to the core of the role, and adds so many layers. Audios can never to him justice, cause his Phantom is so physical.
*No-one tell ALW that Brad Little adds a different melody ending to the “hide your face so the world will never find you”, going up instead of down. ’t was cool
*Emilie Lynn is a mighty positive surprise. Sweet, clear voice with nuances, experimental in acting.
*No-one told me Emilie Lynn is tall!!!
*That’s the best PONR and Final Lair I’ve seen in ages. No, seriously.
*Glowing eyes and mouth on the Golden Angel statue. Important.
*Copenhagen ballet reunion!!! Both Rachel Horn, Beth Peach and Catherine Leppingwell in the corps de ballet.
*When I thought the Broadway chandelier was the slowest one out there…
*Jason Ralph has a remarkably dark voice for André.
*This is MANY different English accents on one stage.
*Tina Walsh nailed it again.
*Ian Jon Bourg as Lefevre/flunky is a waste of talent, TBH.
*No trap door for title song doubles and rooftop scene. Booh. But Raoul’s “lake” junp seemed taller than usual? Or maybe the travelator/bridge was just more angled than usual.
*Brad Little leaning forward and perfectly echoing Golden Angel’s pose, with lifted arms, when it went back up was pretty epic.
*Give me all the costumes…!!
*Daaayyym, this was good. Not perfect, by any means. But so many strong elements. So good visuals. And a really, REALLY good cast. Fuck yeah, POTO World Tour!!!
